John McCain just announced he wants the capital gains tax to be reduced to 7%.
What John knows, and you need to know, is that rich people don’t get their income from a salary like you or me.
Instead, they structure their contracts to receive their pay in the form of capital gains.
For example, a CEO might receive a salary of $125,000. But this same CEO will receive 10,000 “stock options”.
What is a stock option? Well suppose that Apple’s stock is at $125/share. Apple’s board of directors (and I’m not picking on Apple, one of our great companies) will give Steve Jobs 10,000 stock options that entitle Mr. Jobs to buy stock at $10/share.
So Steve buys 10,000 shares of Apple stock at $10 and sells it for $125. That’s $1,400,000 in profit.
I bet you wish you could by Apple stock as a discount like that.
But really, Apple is not selling stock to their CEO. They are making a cash transfer to him, as pay for his services.
But to the IRS man, this is CAPITAL GAINS.
So our CEO (really, I’m not picking on Steve Jobs either) is going to pay the highest income tax rate on his “salary” of $125,000.
But his main compensation, $1,400,000 is taxed as capital gains at a reduced rate.
If John McCain becomes president, the wealthiest Americans will pay 1/4 the tax rate as a hard working waitress making $50,000 a year!

Personally I can’t stand Palin but I don’t understand why any of them should have to release their medical records. Seems like a huge violation of their privacy.
Couldn’t we have a nonpartisan board of physicians who would review each candidate’s records, give them a physical, and give them the thumbs up or down? Or possibly some kind of summary/rating of their health?

McCain is not going to end Social Security. I don’t know anyone who would be for it. Those who are promised benefits must receive them as promised. However, I would personally like to see “choice”. I would like to see a statement of all contributions in my name and I want a statement of them. Then I would like an opportunity to “opt out” and use my funds differently.
13% of my income for life should pay for a very nice retirement for me. I’d like to see change as someone who is not near retirement age… but I would not want Social Security benefits taken away from older Americans.
Do you really need to make such statements to support your socialist candidate because Marxist socialism is the “change” he’s planning to phase in to America??
He even said recently that anyone who things that socialism is bad they’re just “selfish”. Anyone who is near retirement in the stock market is advised to pull back into conservative funds as they approach retirement.
The stock market over any 10 year period has produced an 11-13% average annual return.
There are times when the market plunged 20-40%. AS people just chill out and hold the fort… they wait for the market to bounce back.
If that is interrupted by knee jerk reactions to short-term losses and market adjustments… that’s not how to invest longterm in the stock market.
People who are not int he stock market for the longterm should not be in the market.

I’m glad that Obama at least offers an alternative, McCain wants the Same, that’s right John follow Bush all of the way. The only thing I know about John McCain and Sarah Palin is that they offer nothing but dirty nasty politics. We are tired of hearing all of their junk. We all remember how unraveled and erratic that John McCain became during the financial crisis. He suspended his go-nowhere campaign to go to Washington and do nothing. He just appeared to be in a daze.
I was a Hillary supporter and wasn’t quiet sure who I would vote for in the general election but when I look at the organization that Barack Obama was able to put together and the success that he had raising funds for his campaign and remained a gentleman during throughout his campaign against McCain and Palin, then it has to be a no brainer who the better choice would be to run the country anyway. John McCain’s campaign on the other hand has been one mistake after another, I just don’t think that we would be able to trust his judgement in a crisis, especially considering his response to the recent financial crisis.
I also think that Obama’s tax plan will help get this country back on the right track. It’s unfortunate for all of us that the Bush/Cheney and 6 years of a Republican Congress’s policies have put the country in such a bad way.

I used to support Sen. Obama, but why do people think Sen. Obama is a unifier? Because he says he is? why do people think he listens to the other side? Because he says he does? He said small-town Pennsylvanians are “bitter” that’s why they “cling to their guns and religion,” and he says their bigotted. nevermind you don’t have to be bitter to value your right to bear arms enshrined in the United States Constitution, and faith! Next year I will pay $20,500.00. Now, will that $5000.00 be worth taking from my parents and grandparents Medicare and all of our social security benefits, leaving them less, and we have to pay more.

During the segment, McCain said he was “proud” of Liddy, and praised Liddy’s “adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.” From the program:

Which of Liddy’s “principles and philosophies” was McCain referring to? Liddy’s advocacy of break-ins? Firebombings? Assassinations? Kidnappings? Taking target practice with figures nicknamed Bill and Hillary?
During the same period that Bill Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground, Gordon Liddy was making plans to firebomb a Washington think tank, assassinate a prominent journalist, undertake the Watergate burglary, break into the office of Daniel Ellsberg’s psychiatrist, and kidnap anti-war protesters at the 1972 Republican convention.
Re: Liddy’s “continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great:” Did McCain mean to include Liddy’s instructions to listeners of his radio show in 1994 (around the time Ayres and Obama were on a board together discussing education programs and other plots) on how to shoot Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents (aim for the head)?
If ATF agents attempt to curtail a citizen’s gun ownership, Liddy counseled, “Well, if the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they’re going to be wearing bulletproof vests.”
More recently, Liddy explained making the Clintons objects of shooting practice: “I did relate that on the 4th of July of last year, when I and my family and some friends were out firing away at a properly-constructed rifle range and we ran out of targets, and so we – I drew some stick figure targets and I thought we ought to give them names. So I named them Bill and Hillary, thought it might improve my aim. It didn’t. My aim is good anyway. Now, having said that, I accept no responsibility for somebody shooting up the White House.”
The Liddy-McCain symbiosis has been mentioned in a number of posts on the Internet – mostly by bloggers and sites identified with The Left. But the documentation of their interaction (Liddy has also contributed financially to McCain’s presidential campaign) is not a matter of Left or Right: It is astonishing that, given the prominence of the Ayers matter accorded by virtually every “mainstream” news outlet in America, there has been virtually nothing on the subject in the major newspapers and broadcast networks. This is a real journalistic failure and abrogation of responsibility.
Is Liddy any less a domestic terrorist than Bill Ayers? It is a zero-sum argument, for sure. I do not believe, incidentally, that John McCain shares the most abhorrent of Liddy’s values, as expressed in Liddy’s actions during the same period that Ayers was a Weatherman – and which Liddy continues to express, unapologetically, to this day.
But McCain has now become so unmoored from the principles he once espoused, so shameless in his courtship not only of the Republican “base” but in his eagerness to unleash a poisonous arsenal of character assassination and guilt-by-association – and plain-and-simple incitement of people’s fears and prejudices – that, now, inevitably his and Sara Palin’s rallies and campaign events have taken on the aura of mobs at times.
“Kill him,” a man in the crowd responded last week, when Palin declared -yet again – “He’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.” In Virginia, the State Republican chairman announced a set of talking points to campaign volunteers – stressing the incendiary connection, reported Time magazine, between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden: “Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon. That is scary,” the Republican chairman said.
The most recent McCain ad on the subject shouts, “Obama worked with terrorist William Ayers when it was convenient” – perhaps suggesting, indeed, even that the candidate was there planting bombs.
The intended message of the McCain campaign is, of course, that Obama is less than patriotic – enunciated even by the candidate’s wife, Cindy: “The day that Senator Obama decided to cast a vote to not fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body,” she recently told a crowd of several thousand, which also heard her husband and Palin sound similar notes. (The chairman of the Lehigh, Pa., County Republican Party, William Platt, “implored the crowd to work hard to elect McCain or wake up November 5 to see ‘Barack Obama, Barack Hussein Obama,’ as the president,” reported The Washington Post.)
Like Cindy McCain, the campaign’s “Ad Facts” also trumpet – misleadingly – the only troop-funding bill that Obama voted against, in 2007 – without noting that Obama first voted for the bill, in a version that included a timetable for withdrawal. Nor did Cindy McCain mention that her husband, too, voted against the troop-funding bill – in the version that contained withdrawal language.
Thus has John McCain embarked on a scorched-earth death struggle for the presidency – cultural warfare that knows no bounds, exceeding perhaps even the mendacity and ferocity of the campaign waged against him by George Bush in 2000, and of which McCain once said there was “a special place in hell” for the Bush operatives who smeared him. (McCain also said of the Swift-boat attacks against John Kerry by Republicans in 2004: “I deplore this kind of politics. I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable.”)
The lethal weapon of the McCain campaign’s dreams is the explosive allegation that, in Palin’s words – Obama “pals around with terrorists.” McCain, wisely, did not raise the matter himself in the last presidential debate. Why?
At the time, much of the commentariat attributed the omission to McCain’s purported concerns that Obama would respond by reciting the history of McCain’s “association” with the S&L swindler Charles Keating, for which McCain was cited by the Senate Ethics Committee early in his career, for exercising “poor judgment” for intervening improperly with federal regulators on behalf of Keating, as part of the infamous Keating Five scandal.
But the more likely explanation of why McCain avoided a debate confrontation about “palling around with terrorists” is McCain’s very real – and recent – symbiotic association and praise for another (not Ayers) domestic terrorist emblematic of the Vietnam era: G. Gordon Liddy.

As for this so-called income tax break for 95% of taxpayers (40% of whom aren’t paying taxes anyway but will get checks from the rest of us under Obama), what about the increased social security taxes, estate taxes, and on and on that Obama is proposing? Now he is saying it is “selfish” to want to keep your hard-earned money rather than paying it over to him so he can write checks to folks who don’t even pay taxes!

Well, Nick, The Financial Times just endorsed Obama the other day. (That’s an established and authoritative international financial newspaper, for anyone who doesn’t follow this stuff.) They aren’t in favor of ALL of his policies, but all told, they believe he will do the best job on our economy.

Jukebox John keeps changing his tune
It’s obvious that the McCain campaign and the RNC have decided to go after Barack Obama as a flip-flopper. What’s equally obvious, though, that Republicans couldn’t have chosen a worse narrative.
McCain & Co. seemed to stumble on this line of attack almost by accident. They’d experimented with a variety of memes in recent months, none of which had any real salience. The right settled on “flip-flopper,” in large part because it’s the closest available, already-written Republican narrative, and in part because McCain staffers haven’t been able to think of anything else.
The irony, of course, is that the McCain campaign couldn’t have picked a more hypocritical line of attack. Below you’ll find a comprehensive list of reversals from the Republican nominee, numbered and organized by category for easier reference.
Remember, McCain recently said, “This election is about trust and trusting people’s word.” Just a few days prior, the McCain campaign admonished Obama for trying to “have it both ways” on issues.
I should note that there’s nothing offensive about a political figure changing his or her mind once in a while. Policy makers come to one conclusion, they gain more information, and then they reach a different conclusion. That is, to be sure, a good thing — it reflects a politician with an open mind and a healthy intellectual curiosity. Better to have a leader who changes his or her mind based on new information than one who stubbornly sticks to outmoded policy positions, regardless of facts or circumstances.
So why do McCain’s flip-flops matter? Because all available evidence suggests his reversals aren’t sincere, they’re cynically calculated for political gain. This isn’t indicative of an open mind; it’s actually indicative of a character flaw. And given the premise of McCain’s presidential campaign, it’s an area in desperate need of scrutiny.
The perception people have of McCain is outdated, reflective of a man who no longer has any use for his previous persona. What’s wrong with a politician who changes his or her views? Nothing in particular, but when a politician changes his views so much that he has an entirely different worldview, is it unreasonable to wonder whether it’s entirely sincere? Especially when there’s no other apparent explanation for six dozen significant reversals?
McCain has been in Congress for more than a quarter-century; he’s bound to shift now and then on various controversies. But therein lies the point — McCain was consistent on most of these issues, right up until he started running for president, at which point he conveniently abandoned literally dozens of positions he used to hold. The problem isn’t just the incessant flip-flops — though that’s part of it — it’s more about the shameless pandering and hollow convictions behind the incessant flip-flops. That the media still perceives McCain as some kind of “straight talker” who refuses to sway with the political winds makes this all the more glaring.
Here’s the list.
National Security Policy
1. McCain thought Bush’s warrantless-wiretap program circumvented the law; now he believes the opposite.
2. McCain insisted that everyone, even “terrible killers,” “the worst kind of scum of humanity,” and detainees at Guantanamo Bay, “deserve to have some adjudication of their cases,” even if that means “releasing some of them.” McCain now believes the opposite.
3. He opposed indefinite detention of terrorist suspects. When the Supreme Court reached the same conclusion, he called it “one of the worst decisions in the history of this country.”
4. In February 2008, McCain reversed course on prohibiting waterboarding.
5. McCain was for closing the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay before he was against it.
6. When Barack Obama talked about going after terrorists in Pakistani mountains with predators, McCain criticized him for it. He’s since come to the opposite conclusion.
Foreign Policy
7. McCain was for kicking Russia out of the G8 before he was against it. Now, he’s for it again.
8. McCain supported moving “towards normalization of relations” with Cuba. Now he believes the opposite.
9. McCain believed the U.S. should engage in diplomacy with Hamas. Now he believes the opposite.
10. McCain believed the U.S. should engage in diplomacy with Syria. Now he believes the opposite.
11. McCain is both for and against a “rogue state rollback” as a focus of his foreign policy vision.

Military Policy
14. McCain recently claimed that he was the “greatest critic” of Rumsfeld’s failed Iraq policy. In December 2003, McCain praised the same strategy as “a mission accomplished.” In March 2004, he said, “I’m confident we’re on the right course.” In December 2005, he said, “Overall, I think a year from now, we will have made a fair amount of progress if we stay the course.”
15. McCain has changed his mind about a long-term U.S. military presence in Iraq on multiple occasions, concluding, on multiple occasions, that a Korea-like presence is both a good and a bad idea.
16. McCain was against additional U.S. forces in Afghanistan before he was for it.
17. McCain said before the war in Iraq, “We will win this conflict. We will win it easily.” Four years later, McCain said he knew all along that the war in Iraq war was “probably going to be long and hard and tough.”
18. McCain has repeatedly said it’s a dangerous mistake to tell the “enemy” when U.S. troops would be out of Iraq. In May, McCain announced that most American troops would be home from Iraq by 2013.
19. McCain was against expanding the GI Bill before he was for it.
20. McCain staunchly opposed Obama’s Iraq withdrawal timetable, and even blasted Mitt Romney for having referenced the word during the GOP primaries. In July, after Iraqi officials endorsed Obama’s policy, McCain said a 16-month calendar sounds like “a pretty good timetable.”
Domestic Policy
21. McCain defended “privatizing” Social Security. Now he says he’s against privatization (though he actually still supports it.)
22. On Social Security, McCain said he would not, under any circumstances, raise taxes. Soon after, asked about a possible increase in the payroll tax, McCain said there’s “nothing that’s off the table.”
23. McCain wanted to change the Republican Party platform to protect abortion rights in cases of rape and incest. Now he doesn’t.
24. McCain supported storing spent nuclear fuel at Yucca Mountain in Nevada. Now he believes the opposite.
25. He argued the NRA should not have a role in the Republican Party’s policy making. Now he believes the opposite.
26. In 1998, he championed raising cigarette taxes to fund programs to cut underage smoking, insisting that it would prevent illnesses and provide resources for public health programs. Now, McCain opposes a $0.61-per-pack tax increase, won’t commit to supporting a regulation bill he’s co-sponsoring, and has hired Philip Morris’ former lobbyist as his senior campaign adviser.
27. McCain is both for and against earmarks for Arizona.
28. McCain’s first mortgage plan was premised on the notion that homeowners facing foreclosure shouldn’t be “rewarded” for acting “irresponsibly.” His second mortgage plan took largely the opposite position.
29. McCain went from saying gay marriage should be allowed, to saying gay marriage shouldn’t be allowed.
30. McCain opposed a holiday to honor Martin Luther King, Jr., before he supported it.

34. And on gay adoption, McCain initially said he’d rather let orphans go without families, then his campaign reversed course, and soon after, McCain reversed back.
35. In the Senate, McCain opposed a variety of measures on equal pay for women, and endorsed the Supreme Court’s Ledbetter decision. In July, however, McCain said, “I’m committed to making sure that there’s equal pay for equal work. That … is my record and you can count on it.”
36. McCain was against fully funding the No Child Left Behind Act before he was for it.
37. McCain was for affirmative action before he was against it.
38. McCain said the Colorado River compact will “obviously” need to be “renegotiated.” Six days later, McCain said, “Let me be clear that I do not advocate renegotiation of the compact.”
Economic Policy
39. McCain was against Bush’s tax cuts for the very wealthy before he was for them.
40. John McCain initially argued that economics is not an area of expertise for him, saying, “I’m going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues; I still need to be educated,” and “The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should.” He now falsely denies ever having made these remarks and insists that he has a “very strong” understanding of economics.
41. McCain vowed, if elected, to balance the federal budget by the end of his first term. Soon after, he decided he would no longer even try to reach that goal. And soon after that, McCain abandoned his second position and went back to his first.
42. McCain said in 2005 that he opposed the tax cuts because they were “too tilted to the wealthy.” By 2007, he denied ever having said this, and falsely argued that he opposed the cuts because of increased government spending.

Judicial Policy and the Rule of Law
57. McCain said he would “not impose a litmus test on any nominee.” He used to promise the opposite.
58. McCain’s position was that the telecoms should be forced to explain their role in the administration’s warrantless surveillance program as a condition for retroactive immunity. He used to believe the opposite.
59. McCain went from saying he would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade to saying the exact opposite.

Palin Governor of Alaska Less than 2 years? Playing hooky pays off for Palin
Seems like she was home a lot more than she was in the office.
Despite all of the discussion of Sarah Palin’s performance as governor of Alaska, there has been little analysis of the simplest measure of performance: attendance. As Woody Allen said many years ago, “80 percent of success is just showing up.”
The Washington Post recently reported that, in her first 19 months as governor, Palin billed the state of Alaska per diem charges for 312 days she spent at her home in Wasilla. Palin’s staff has explained that it was appropriate to bill the state for expenses related to Palin staying in her own house because her “official duty station” was at the state capital of Juneau, where the governor’s official office and mansion are located. But that argument raises a different question: How much time did that leave for her to spend at her “official duty station”?
Nineteen months totals 578 days, but after subtracting weekends and holidays, it is only about 397 workdays. Assuming Palin did not routinely bill the state for staying in her own home on weekends and holidays, she would have spent no more than 85 workdays in the state capital over the course of her 19 months in office, even if she traveled nowhere else in Alaska or outside of the state. That compares with 168 days that the Alaska Legislature was in session during the same period.
One of the state’s leading papers, the Juneau Empire, described her attendance like this:
“Palin has spent little time in Juneau, rarely coming to the state capital except when the Legislature was in session, and sometimes not even then. During a recent special session called by Palin herself, she faced criticism from several legislators for not showing up personally to push for her agenda. Someone at the Capitol even printed up buttons asking, ‘Where’s Sarah?’”
Why does the governor of Alaska need to be in the state capital? There are two big reasons — and probably many smaller ones. The first big reason is that she appoints most of the people who manage the 15 departments of Alaska’s state government, containing more than 100 divisions and employing more than 50,000 people. Nearly all the department heads and division directors are headquartered in Juneau. E-mails and telephone calls alone are not effective for the governor to get advice, give directions and follow up to ensure that appropriate policy is being implemented. It is obvious that the ability to fully monitor the performance of the bureaucracies any governor has chosen to lead is greatly restricted if the governor does not spend significant time on the ground where the operations of government are housed.
But also of great importance is the governor’s ability to work with the legislature to update state policies and offer new programs for improving governance. Any effective governor must work on an ongoing basis with not only the leadership of both houses in the state legislature to build consensus and draft the governor’s proposals into language that both houses can accept, but also committee chairmen and recalcitrant members whose votes are needed to support key portions of the governor agenda.
It appears that in the upside-down situation that has occurred in Juneau over the past year and a half, almost all of the members of the Alaska Legislature were in the state capital far more often than the governor.
One member told the Juneau Empire, “At a time when [Palin’s] leadership was truly needed, we didn’t know where she was.”
One has to wonder whether the chef at the governor’s mansion that Palin takes credit for firing may not have simply left the job out of sheer boredom.
When I was first out of college, I worked for a period as a bill drafter for the Missouri Legislature. At that time, it was the practice for the governor to apportion thousands of state patronage jobs to members of the Legislature to pass on to their political supporters. Although some of these jobs paid little more than minimum wage, they were very much in demand because they were so-called no-show jobs: You could collect your paycheck without regularly reporting for work. Some individuals were able to obtain two or three such jobs and still work outside of state government as a real estate broker, bank employee or in some other private sector job.
Hopefully, Missouri’s and all state governments have fully abandoned such corrupt and wasteful practices. But every governor faces an ongoing challenge to ensure that each employee provides a full day of work for a full day of pay. That challenge is certainly greater if the governor is found infrequently at the “official duty station.” It is still greater if state employees realize the governor is being rewarded with state revenue for staying at home.

According to published reports the Director of Division of Elections in Alaska, Gail Fenumiai, has stated that Todd Palin registered in October 1995 to the Alaska Independence Party, a radical group that advocates for Alaskan secession from the United States. The founder of the Alaska Independence Party, Joe Vogler, once professed his “hatred for the American government” and cursed the American flag as a “damn flag.” Besides a short period of a few months in 2000 when he changed his registration to undeclared, Todd Palin remained a registered member of AIP until July 2002 when he registered again as an undeclared voter. What was special about 2002? That was when Sarah Palin entered state politics as a Republican. Todd Palin has already shown an extraordinary involvement in his wife’s career, even sitting in on meetings and reading emails that should have been private. If Michelle Obama had been part of this party the Republicans would be attacking her full force. Is it not relevant because Todd Palin is white, or perhaps because he’s just a good old country boy?

It seems that John McCain was a member and sat on the board of the US Council for World Freedom (”USCWF”), an organization noted for its extreme ideology, racism, and anti-semitism. This organization has been described as “largely a collection of Nazis, fascists, anti-Semites, sellers of forgeries, vicious racialists, and corrupt self seekers.” Why on earth would John McCain associate himself with such a group? Why would he take a leadership position with it?

All of these inane attacks against Palin are ridiculous. How about sticking to the real issues such as exactly what was her and her husband’s involvement with the AIP /and why, and if/why she feels that giving a dispersement to the people of Alaska from oil revenue is indeed spreading the wealth/socialism. If I remember correctly a former Alaska governor gave each Alaskan citizen a tax rebate of some sort…may have been from oil revenue, can’t remember, but that was many moons ago and there is that precedent-not Palin’s brainchild.
Many of us get tax refunds-is that socialism? Is taxing itself socialism? I think not. We pay into the government’s maintaining of infrastructure…supporting people on an ongoing basis is socialistic. I believe in a national sales tax, but as far as the income tax, everyone should pay their fair share, and I do think that the top tier should pay a lower percentage since they would still cover who knows how many non-paying citizens…a hybrid regressive tax system, that evens out towards the middle with a reasonable cut off.
Also, the former Alaska governor ran and won on the AIP ticket-he became Republican when he realized what loons the AIP top dogs were.

I was talking with my wife and was referring to an Obama interview today. Three times I said “President Obama” without even thinking about it. At this point it seems so natural it just comes out. You know what? It does have a nice ring to it.
In her 30 years of voting my Republican wife never voted for a Democratic presidential candidate before. She just smiled at me when I said “President Obama.” Well, the “way low place” probably isn’t really “frozen over” but she IS voting for Obama. Yep, “President Obama” has a nice ring to it.

By the way, McCain never came back in a national election. In the Republican primaries, before his so called comeback in New Hampshire, polls had him ahead in New Hampshire before the election. Unlike many others that lost their retirements in the stock market crash brought on partly by McCain’s deregulation binge, his support of the Bush tax cuts at a time of increased spending, and his support of a costly war in Iraq where we will spend nearly a trillion dollars with little to show for it here at home, McCain can afford to retire and spend his remaining days in luxury picking this mansion this week and that one the next. He looks like he needs the rest. My friends, let him retire; it’s best for all of us.

All of this discussion on the capitol gains tax… correct me if I’m wrong, but I strongly support a heavy burden on them. If you are a middle class, working or retired person, the majority of your capitol gains would be in your IRA account and therefore would not be taxed till you withdrew them. On the other hand, the rich take huge capitol gains in lieu of large salaries so capping them as McTrainwreck has proposed would once again favor the wealthy alone. I think the 250 K threshold B.O. has given is a bit too high, but then if I’m middle class it would be in the bottom one percentile. My largest yearly wage was less than 42 thousand dollars. Now in retirement I am feeling the pain that many less fortunate have felt for years. Please vote for the man that has shown his opponent some respect, the one that was not a prisoner of war but has a admirable education, the one the one who due to his education would surround himself with people that could “protect us” better than Mr. 100 year war guy. Of his tax plan, he added later that it would help everyone in America have a better chance at success. “John McCain and Sarah Palin, they call this socialistic,” he said. “You know, I don’t know when, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness.”

THE FACTS: His plan does not lower premiums by $2,500, or any set amount. Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money. He uses an optimistic analysis to suggest cost reductions in national health care spending could amount to the equivalent of $2,500 for a family of four. Many economists are skeptical those savings can be achieved, but even if they are, it’s not a certainty that every dollar would be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums.

Experts: Sirhan Sirhan Did Not Kill RFK
MASHANTUCKET, Conn. — New forensics evidence presented Tuesday during a symposium at Foxwoods suggests Sirhan Sirhan did not fire the fatal shots that killed Sen. Robert Kennedy in 1968.
Experts from all over the world met Wednesday to discuss problems in crime solving during the annual symposium, hosted by the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science. This year’s event was about conspiracies and solving complex crimes.
Dr. Robert Joling, a forensics investigator who has studied the Robert Kennedy assassination for almost 40 years, determined that the fatal shots must have come from behind the senator.
Sirhan, however, was 4 to 6 feet in front of Kennedy and never got close enough to shoot Kennedy from behind, the investigator said.
The other evidence was the Pruszynski recording. This is the only audio recording of the assassination. Another scientist analyzed it and concluded that at least 13 shots were fired from two different guns.
Philip Van Praag, a forensic engineer, said he made three discoveries.
The first two demonstrate that there must be more than one shooter, he said. The third conclusion is that the shots fired by the second shooter matched the firearm a security guard behind Kennedy carried.
Joling and Van Praag presented their findings together, although the two investigated the Kennedy shooting independently. They had never met until last year. During a seminar, they realized their separate findings were perfectly wed.

However, these are from individuals who work for these companies, not the companies themselves (which would be illegal). Top spot is Sen. Chris Dodd with $165,400, with Obama being number two with $126,349. McCain has received $21,500.

Calvin Woodward reports that Obama misled viewers on at least five key points in his 30-minute final argument:

He plans to spend $50 billion over five years on modernization and chronic-disease prevention and presumes that this will lower costs in the future, but in the meantime it RAISES COSTS at least in the short run on everyone (the $50 billion doesn’t come out of thin air).
–The Pay-Go of his plans – NO, he hasn’t demonstrated that he’s found the revenue for his spending, despite his claims last night. Non-partisan analysts believe that his spending programs will ADD at least $428 billion to the DEFICIT in his first term, and that’s if you accept his non-specific pledge to cut spending in other areas.
–Tax cuts for working class families – Before the commercial aired, he had already begun BACKING AWAY from that idea because of the financial crisis, although Obama didn’t acknowledge it in the ad.
–The “right” to affordable health care – Obama DOES NOT guarantee coverage in any of his plans, at least not for adults.
–Getting out of Iraq – Obama noted that the US spends $10 billion a month in Iraq and talked again about “bringing that war to a close” — but he’s BACKED AWAY from his previous pledges to get out on a strict 16-month timetable, which is as fast as the remaining units can be properly withdrawn.
Break:
Obama adjusts the tax numbers repeatedly. Obama is not sure about the financial crisis because of his lack of executive knowledge. Obama is scrambling to win votes with empty words, promises and deceptions.

Problems with endorsing Obama

My, my. In their dumbfounding endorsement of Barack Obama, it seems to me that members of the Tribune’s editorial board must not have first read some pages in their own paper. Obama’s negatives have been cited ad nauseam, so I won’t repeat all of them. But there are some downsides in his candidacy that were not addressed in the unpersuasive endorsement statement, and they are a big deal to me. They include:
• The senator is a radical socialist with stated preferences for the Marxist notion of redistributing the wealth. Does the editorial board want the U.S. to morph into the socialist model of a dying Europe? Does it want our culture destroyed?
• With the likely veto-proof Democrat majority in Congress, a President Obama will have the opportunity to name justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. Is it the desire of the editorial board to have a leftist majority on that bench to creatively rewrite the Constitution and restructure society without regard to what citizens may think?
• Much closer to home, the editorial board has observed the wonderful things that happen in Illinois when one party controls Chicago, Cook County and the state. Does the editorial board want the entire nation governed as miserably as is Illinois with Democrats controlling the White House, Congress and the judiciary?
I don’t advocate any of these destructive directions for our country.

There are all kinds of taxes. Bush-Cheney, McCain-Gramm’s idea of making the rich super rich and the Middle Class jobless was a kind of reverse socialist tax. Look at the U.S. today. Millions are out of work and millions more on the edge. Retirees have lost over Two Trillion in retirement fund value. People have lost homes, pensions, health care, the ability to send their children to higher education. Meanwhile, the rich CEOs have gotten hundreds of millions for leading laying people off and leading their corporations into bankruptcy. McCain’s adviser Carly Fiorina got a 40 Million Dollar golden parachute at HP and mostly what she did was lay thousands off. McCain’s advisers are former lobbyists and CEOs who got rich working for the the corporations which stabbed the middle class in the back. There was a “make the rich richer and the Middle Class jobless” tax under Bush-Cheney, McCain-Gramm. And that will continue. McCain will keep the Bush tax cuts for the rich. He will give huge tax cuts to corporations including billions to companies like Exxon which has the largest profit in history last quarter. He will tax health care premiums and essentially do away with employer-matched health care plans. The whole Bush-Cheney, McCain-Gramm philosophy led us to where we are. We need someone with a different philosopy, a philosophy which puts the Middle Class first, and that someone is Barack Obama.

McCain cannot wait to bring that adulteress to the white house. They have been trying to keep everything hush hush to keep the press from getting hold of the news that Sarah Palin had an affair with her husband’s best friend and business partner. Who is the baby’s father. Is that how it’s going to be.

Obama’s assertion that “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond” the expense of his promises is accepted ONLY by his partisans. His vow to save money by “eliminating programs that don’t work” masks his FAILURE throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are – beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.”
Calvin Woodward reports that Obama misled viewers on at least five key points in his 30-minute final argument:
–Health care costs – Obama claimed his plan would lower costs by $2500 per year per family, but it DOES NOT. In fact, Obama can’t point to any particular cost reductions. He plans to spend $50 billion over five years on modernization and chronic-disease prevention and presumes that this will lower costs in the future, but in the meantime it RAISES COSTS at least in the short run on everyone (the $50 billion doesn’t come out of thin air).
–The Pay-Go of his plans – NO, he hasn’t demonstrated that he’s found the revenue for his spending, despite his claims last night. Non-partisan analysts believe that his spending programs will ADD at least $428 billion to the DEFICIT in his first term, and that’s if you accept his non-specific pledge to cut spending in other areas.
–Tax cuts for working class families – Before the commercial aired, he had already begun BACKING AWAY from that idea because of the financial crisis, although Obama didn’t acknowledge it in the ad.
–The “right” to affordable health care – Obama DOES NOT guarantee coverage in any of his plans, at least not for adults.
–Getting out of Iraq – Obama noted that the US spends $10 billion a month in Iraq and talked again about “bringing that war to a close” — but he’s BACKED AWAY from his previous pledges to get out on a strict 16-month timetable, which is as fast as the remaining units can be properly withdrawn.
Break:
Obama continues to deceive America voters. Obama supporters talk about Governor Sarah Palin, but Obama keeps lying to be the president. No one can believe a person that continues to lie about his program and continuously deceives the voting public. Obama supporters cannot substantiate their rhetoric.

Zeituni Onyango, 56, referred to as “Aunti Zeituni” in Obama’s memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango’s case.
Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcment official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release. Onyango’s refusal to leave the country would represent an administrative, non-criminal violation of U.S. immigration law, meaning such cases are handled outside the criminal court system. Estimates vary, but many experts believe there are more than 10 million such immigrants in the United States.
The AP could not reach Onyango immediately for comment. No one answered the telephone number listed in her name late Friday. It was unclear why her request for asylum was rejected in 2004.
Onyango is not a relative whom Obama has discussed in campaign appearances and, unlike Obama’s father and grandmother, is not someone who has been part of the public discussion about his personal life.
A spokeswoman for U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Kelly Nantel, said the government does not comment on an individual’s citizenship status or immigration case.

I’m voting for Obama, but Palin’s right that his tax plan is phony. What she doesn’t say is that so is McCain’s. Of course, we know that Obama does not like to associate himself with “right wing conservatives”…he prefers the company of “terrorrists/socialists/radicals/communists/marxists”!!
Obama declined Sarkozy’s invitation to the “Economic Crisis Summit”, which France’s President Sarkozy is organizing in Washington but Obama had no problem touring Europe and giving a speech in Berlin! His Audacity went to Berlin but did not even visit our wounded soldiers at the Ramstein airforce base.

‘OBAMA! Inshallah!” – Obama! Allah willing! That slogan, scribbled on walls in Gaza, indicates the hopes that Barack Obama has inspired among Arabs.
While Obama has tried to push his origins into the background, his “Islamic roots” have won him a place in many Arabs’ hearts.
One columnist, Mohamed Al-Menshawi, hails Obama as “the candidate with Muslim roots” and as the “harbinger of solidarity between Americans and the Muslim world.”
Another, Al-Jazeera’s Aala al-Bayoumi, notes: “Had it not been for Obama, Arabs would not even bother to follow the US presidential race.” What makes the difference is Obama’s “Islamic and African roots.”
Marwan Bishara hails Obama’s “radical politics”: “For the US to vote in an African-American progressive liberal would certainly mark a departure from the hyper and violent conservatism of the Bush-McCain camp,” he writes. An Obama presidency “would be better for both the US and the Arab world.”
Obama especially appeals to pan-Arab nationalists angry at the United States for having ousted Saddam Hussein. Obama’s promise to leave Iraq gives pan-Arabs their only chance (albeit slim) to destroy the new Iraqi democracy.
While radical Arabs, including the Hamas leadership, favor Obama, most Arab officials are wary of him. They fear his inexperience and leftist connections might destroy all that has been gained in Iraq, provoke a bigger mess in Afghanistan, trigger a war with Pakistan and open the way for Khomeinist hegemony in the region.
Note that Obama wouldn’t be the first politician with Muslim roots to lead a major non-Muslim country. Carlos Menem, a Muslim of Syrian descent, served as Argentina’s president from 1989 to 1999. But he dropped his Arab-Islamic first name and adopted his baptismal Christian name before entering politics.
Obama, by contrast, has retained his Arabic-Islamic names. (Barack means “blessed” and Hussein means “beautiful.”) His family name is Swahili, an East African lingua franca based on Arabic. Arab commentators note that his siblings also all have Arabic Muslim names. His sister is called Oumah, Arabic for “the community of the faithful his older daughter, Malia, bears the name of a daughter of the Caliph Othman, who commissioned the compilation of the first edition of the Koran. That Obama’s stepfather was also a Muslim (from Indonesia) strengthens the empathy that many Arabs feel for him.
The Syrian regime has also indicated its preference for Obama, not least because President Bush forced it to end its 29-year military occupation of Lebanon. Buthaina Shaaban, an adviser to President Bashar al-Assad, has welcomed Obama’s call for radical change in US policy. She writes, “The change suggested by Obama is essential not only for the US but for the entire human family.”
Also enthusiastic for Obama is the Lebanese Hezbollah. The party’s No. 2, Sheik Naim al-Kassim, went as far as inviting Americans to vote Obama as a step toward peace with Islam. (The party disowned his comments as “personal opinion.”) Pro- Hezbollah columnist Amal Saad-Ghorayeb has no doubt that Arabs should welcome an Obama presidency because “African-Americans are more sympathetic to Arabs because they, too, are oppressed.”
Hussein Shobokshi, a liberal Saudi commentator, predicts that “Obama’s ascent to power in America would mark an important moral transformation in the superpower and is a healthy indicator of the long-awaited improvement in the international arena.” He envisages a new system in America in which “nongovernmental institutions will participate in the political decision-making process in an effective manner,” while “capitalism will undergo fundamental adjustment.”
Another liberal writer, Diana Makkled, sees Obama’s success as a sign that America is still the place where dreams are realized. That a man with a Muslim-African background might become president “could only take place in the US, not in the banana republics we live in,” she writes.
Arabs welcomed and widely commented on Colin Powell’s assertion that, even if Obama were a Muslim, it should not be held against him.
Some columnists have also noted Obama’s close ties to a number of Palestinian radicals, including Rashid Khalidi and the late Edward Said, as signs that the senator would change US Middle East policy in the Arabs’ favor. Strengthening that impression was an interview the Rev. Jessie Jackson granted to several Arab media outlets, including Al-Jazeera and the popular Internet newspaper Elaph, in which he promised an end to the United States’ allegedly pro-Israel policy.
Not all Arab commentators are struck by Obamania, however. His flip-flops on issues – including the future of Jerusalem, withdrawal from Iraq and dealing with the Iranian nuclear threat – have prompted some to counsel caution.
Tareq Al-Houmayed, editor of the daily Asharq Alawsat, warns Arabs not to expect too much: “Every American president would be governed by American interests. Obama’s understanding of politics is not important here.”
Abdulrahman al-Rashed, a Saudi commentator, also notes that no president can radically alter US global policies. He advises Arabs to neither have exaggerated hopes nor be dispirited when Obama tells the Israelis “more than they hoped to hear” to win Jewish support.

The vile that is said. I tried to reade the comments. By far the most mean and disgusting comments are from the Obama supporters. Moderate comments are a bit long winded but by far the most pleasant to read. My comment about Obama is this. He said the other day Sharing is a good thing and if he wanted to share his Peanut Butter Sandwich with a friend at school it is a good thing.
