Todd Palin Pushed Firing for Years, Probe Told

Todd Palin campaigned for years to get state trooper Mike Wooten fired, he told the Alaska Legislature’s "Troopergate" investigator, in a 25-page response to a list of questions.

Palin provided his answers to special counsel Stephen Branchflower yesterday, according to news accounts and sources familiar with the probe.  Palin’s lawyer and the McCain-Palin campaign made the document available to reporters that evening, a move condemned by State Senate officials.

"The McCain campaign should not be releasing these documents to you," said Alaska Senate President Lyda Green, R-Wasilla, after learning the camp had offered the document to a reporter, under condition of anonymity. "This is a confidential report," she said. "The campaign should have nothing to do with this."

Alaska State Sen. Hollis French, who is managing the investigation, confirmed that the document was not to be made public, and is not being distributed by the investigation.

The campaign’s release of Todd Palin’s answers make the document the only piece of investigative material from Branchflower’s probe to become public prior to the expected release of Branchflower’s report. That raised eyebrows among some Alaska officials and political observers, who noted how sharply Palin and the campaign have criticized the legislature’s probe as political.

One McCain-Palin campaign ad called the bipartisan-backed probe "nothing more than a three-ring circus emceed by Obama partisans."  Palin, the campaign and her allies have criticized State Sen. French, the probe’s manager, for suggesting Branchflower’s findings could be an "October surprise" for the campaign, asserted Branchflower lacked impartiality, and pointed out that some Democratic legislators who supported the probe also support Sen. Barack Obama’s White House bid.

"They’re the ones making it political," said Senate President Green, a Republican from Palin’s hometown who has nevertheless been a public critic of Palin’s.  "Alaskans are perfectly capable of asking questions, getting answers and writing a report."

Green said she was shocked at how McCain-Palin campaign aides had acted since arriving in the state in early September. "I can’t believe that the campaign would condone this behavior if they truly knew," she said. "I’ve never seen anything like it."

The only way Palin is getting in to the Oval Office is with a tour pass. Keep your head in the sand, when you come up for air take a look at the electoral map. You are about to see the biggest Democratic landslide since 1964.
Republicans got their wish in 2004 and re-elected Bush who has trashed this country in 8 years. As President Obama said “Bush dug us a hole & McCain carried the shovel”.
Thanks again for the Palin pick, it’s the gift that keeps on giving to the Democrats.

It’s funny how McCain’s people never mention the make-up of the committee supposedly controlled by Obama. It’s eight republicans and only four democrats. Palin prefers the panel she picked because she appointed all three members.

The McCain campaign is exhibiting a type of behavior known to psychologists as “projecting”. They accuse the other side of everything THEY are guilty of themselves. It’s not only stupid, it’s immature and is going to backfire on them in a big way.
McCain keeps hurling smears at Obama, questioning his judgment…. when he can’t even be honest about his OWN poor judgment in picking a running mate who is embroiled in a CURRENT bi-partisan ethics investigation.
The key word here is ETHICS, and the lack thereof.
Sarah and Todd Palin are vindictive small-town liars.

It’s funny. The probe began BEFORE Palin was selected by McCain. How is the investigation a political ploy by the Democrats?

Posted by: Amy | October 9, 2008, 10:47 am 10:47 am

Amazing… Palin even manages to try to blame this probe on Obama. A probe that was launched by a Republican majority LONG before Palin was even on the McCain ticket!
If Senator Obama has that kind of fortune telling ability to know she would have been picked by McCain along with the political ability to persuade the Republicans to start the probe then I definitely want to see him President. Imagine what he could do with our foreign relations!

Palin fought corruption in alaska that is why there is a bipartisan effort to get her down.

It’s interesting that neither the article nor any of the comments mentioned the fact that the Trooper at the heart of this investigation was habitually abusive, both physically and emotionally. He clearly behaved in ways counter to what a Police Officer should be. Has no one stopped to consider that the attempts to have him fired might have been legitimate, and were carried out in the light of day?
If a cop were abusing my sister, I’d do everything I could to get him fired and prosecuted. Palin may be inexperienced, and she may not be up to the job–no one knows until it happens. But Troopergate has nothing to do with any of those things.

McCain = Bush? The attack ads by McPain & PA In(sic) smell suggestively like the modus operandi of the infamous Karl Rove who successfully smeared everyone in his and W’s way to glory and richess.
Can anyone verify whether Karl ‘Iago’ Rove sat in on the GOP campaign strategies? Or not?

In conjunction with this probe, I watched the video that Sarah Palin made for the Alaskan Independence Party convention. There were no folksy sayings or perky winks. she looked and sounded like a governor. My questio is, did she make videos for the Democratic or Republican conventions? I couldn’t find them.
She was very happy to be making a welcoming video for them and seems to have been condoning their view of the world. I find her words very chilling and disturbing that she condones a group that wants to break up our country, i.e. secede from the United States.

Incredible the hypocrisy the McCain-Palin campaign. McCain’s new plan for the crisis is going to benefits the banks its “loaded with goodies” for them at the expense of the taxpayers. Alaska is the state that gets the most federal handouts so that Palin can give money to Alaskans as rebate checks. Palin hired her high school friends with zero experience to top paying govt. jobs. She claimed $40000 per family member as travel expenses, why the heck is family traveling so much, I can barely afford a vacation in one year if at all.

If McCain wins McDonalds is set to launch a new sandwich called the “McSame”. It will be offered for the next 4 years and will look & taste exactly like the current Filet’O Fish sandwich which has been showing a steady lag in sales over the last 8 years.
A kids meal will also be offered that will have an action figure, Barbie-like “Palin” doll which winks when pushed. Choice of matching gun or bow will be available.

then
McCain is “palling around with KKK members” (Byrd)
and
McCain is ”palling around with felons who commit fraud that cheat Americans out of billions $ in retirement savings” (Keating)
and Palin is “palling around with America-hating secessionists” (AIP)
Hey McCain, your lame desperate attack tactics work both ways. If Obama is a terrorist, then you and Palin are KKK members, felons who cheat Americans out of their retirement savings, and America-hating secessionists.

I agree with Mr Tate, Sarah and Todd Palin are vindictive small town liars, now caught in their own web.
I came from a small town, I don’t disparage that. But the world is a highly complex and combustible place, we need the best and the brightest at our helm, with the best and the brightest as backups.
I feel a bit sorry for McCain, he could have been President but the Evangelicals shoved Bush in his place. Now, McCains time is past as his style of leadership just won’t cut it in now.
…especially with Ms Palin and her snowmobile champ, never-even-went-to-college husband/Shadow Vice President.
Yowsa. He was involved at the Alaskan Executive level, with more than just this stupid troopergate thing. Would he do the same in Washington? Presumably so.
Positively frightening.

A good way to protect the guilty is to have a fall-guy. Sounds to me like Toddy-boy is falling on his sword to protect the misses. He’s willing to take the heat for this fiasco so Sara gets away scott-free. I suspect she’s guilty as hell and into it up to her neck, but Toddy-boy is willing to take the hit cause he’s not the governor nor the VP nominee and nothing can be done to him – he’s just a civilian. I wonder if Alaskans are as stupid as Toddy-boy is making them look to be?

Some five million fraudulent home mortgages are in the hands of illegal aliens, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
In America an illegal alien was arrested this year in Tucson, Arizona after allegedly using a stolen social security number to buy two homes and rack up over $780,000 in bad debt.
It’s not known how many of those have contributed to the subprime housing mortgage meltdown, but it has affected every state.
The problem began years ago when banks were forced to give mortgages without confirming social security numbers or borrower identification. As a result, illegal immigrants were able to obtain home mortgages which they could not afford and then walked away from.
This is no longer isolated communities whose corrupt Politicians, Governors, Mayors and elected officials, who haven’t sold America to the open-border Special interest lobby for campaign contributions.

Why is this video not being shown and circulated in the media? I have never seen it, and would be very interested in listening to Sarah Palin “unguarded” — that is, what she recently said in public and on the record, and how she recently thought, before she became the VP nominee. Since the McCain/Palin camp is so liberally spreading rumors about Obama’s “poor judgment,” I am surprised that no media organizations are probing Palin’s past history, at least for the sake of balance. If Sarah Palin actually spoke “welcomingly” to a group promoting seceding from the union, this is a far more dangerous character and trust and treason issue than Obama participating in a commission on education reform with Ayers, who is now a respected professor of education. Ayers’ acts as a student protester were decades ago, when Obama was 8 years old! The Alaska secessionist/independence organization is alive and well right now, and Palin’s husband was a member until she became governor. I sure would like to see the video of Palin speaking to this group.

Who is politicizing the Troopergate inquiry?

Posted by: GOP | October 9, 2008, 1:14 pm 1:14 pm

This troopergate investigation was scheduled to be reviewed in court before McCain tapped Palin and being he didn’t even know her or vet her this is his own questionable judgment.
The people of Alaska deserve to have this investigation continue w/o the McCain camp interfering in their state business. Palin’s brother in law is no angel, but Sarah’s questionable judgment in using her position to fulfill a personal conflict were an obvious abuse of power & position on the tax payers record, time, and money.

I agree that there is NO WAY Todd Palin “kept this from his wife” as they seem to be claiming. It’s clear these two share everything, and they’ve said so themselves. Great for a marriage but not neccessarily so for the Alaska government.

It is nice to hear that chivalry is not dead, the proof being that the “first dude” is apparently willing to fall on his sword for his lady. It would have been a lot nicer if it didn’t feel like just another dishonest, manipulative strategy decided upon by the McCain/Palin campaign in an attempt to dodge responsibility for bad behavior. What it feels like may or may not be accurate, but based on the performances from the McCain/Palin camp, for this registered NC voter, that’s how it looks and feels.
Oh, and let me make one thing perfectly clear. No pundit, no member of the Obama camp, no elitist, no latte-sipping lefty, and certainly, none of those dastardly evil-doers in the liberal media have formed my now very strong opinions in this election. The words of each of the candidates themselves have served to form my opinions and decisions.
Where honesty and integrity are concerned, I initially held such high hopes for this presidential election. Senators Obama and Biden have not yet let me down – Senator McCain and Governor Palin have dropped me off a cliff.

The McCain camp is just repeating false claims in the hopes that enough voters are foolish enough to a) mistake the spear for political discourse, and b)decline to do any fact-checking and jump of the cliff like good little lemmings.
I get the sense that things might be a bit different in this election. People have access to all the information they need to make smart choices. We are searching news archives, congressional records and putting more faith in factcheck.org than partisan media hacks. But the McCains are playing the game as the republicans have done for years…just keep smearing it on and eventually something will stick.

The problem with Palin’s action isn’t so much that she was trying to get her abusive brother in law fired, it is about her firing Wooten for not firing who she wanted fired. Added to the investigation should be whether she was using her side e-mail’s to conduct state business, a violation of law.

Concerned,
I am an American citizen. It is my obligation to make my decisions about our leadership in the most informed manner possible. Isn’t that true of ALL American citizens??? I just presumed it was.
I fact-check a great deal and question everything. If anything, I’m actually harder on the candidate who’s got my better attention than the one who does not. It’s kind of like what I would say to my kids….”I don’t care if little Johnny is allowed to (ok, I’ll use it) jump off a cliff…YOU’RE NOT!” One of my big problems this time around is the abject arrogance of a campaign that tells me, “We’re only gonna let you hear us say what we want to say – we’re not taking any unapproved questions.” I’m not sure I’ll ever be willing to cast my vote based on choreography and scripting only.
This election is pretty much a done-deal for me. One guy has consistently conducted himself with integrity and stayed on point. One guy has not. Burt Reynolds had a line in “The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas” that went something like “I know when somebody’s peeing on my boots and telling me it’s a thunderstorm.” I won’t be breaking out the umbrella any time soon for the McCain/Palin Ayers “thunderstorm.”
Oh, and if you don’t mind, I do need to say one more thing. Those lemmings? They are American citizens (presumably), too, and, as passionately as I disagree with many of them, I would defend their right to disagree with me. I just hope I live to see that day that the favor would be returned.
Thoughtfully, Curiously, Sincerely & Respectfully

I disagree with the statement that “Sarah appointed the guy and had the right to unappoint him — for any reason whatsoever. ”
A good comparative example is the President appointing a supreme court justice. He does not have the authority to unappoint them for any reason whatsoever.
Also the comment about the Palin/Biden debate and referring to the constitutional authority of the VP, Biden was correct when stating what the VP’s role should be while Palin sounded ignorant.
Both of these arguments are a breakdown in the separation of powers in our govt. This is a problem the Bush admin had problems with.

The world is facing an economic meltdown.. There are over 400 trillion dollars in derivatives on the market that were building financial leverage up to this day.. Out of all the Investment Banks in the US, only two independents are left, the others were looted by private equity firms from overseas who orchestrated the largest sell off of American businesses the world has ever seen, and then quietly took their profits, equity ownerships, and money and went home. We are left to try to fix the mess…and still, people argue about which of the politicos is the better candidate. Either our system works, and both candidates are good presidential candidates fairly representative of Americans as a whole, or our system is broken and fully half the country can’t trust the other half. Partisan politics doesn’t work because you only have two sides of the same coin. If he says go left, the other says go right.. All of you are arguing over going left or right.. Keep it up, forget that we are all Americans and in this together, and guess what..nothing gets solved, nothing gets addressed because you keep arguing and no one is watching where the country and its policies are going in terms of world opinion.. Why do you think the overseas private equity firms bought us out lock stock and barrel …it wasn’t just that they are as greedy as us, it was that they understand that the only way to get America out of other peoples countries and business, is to destabilize us at home. Guess what, they won, its done and over with, the American dollar is worthless, the stock market and US businesses are a wreck, and gee..our politicians are arguing over going left or right. Prejudice and greed are blinding in their ability to blind people to the obvious, and while no one was looking at the real issues, we lost.
Same thing we’ve done to countless other countries over the years…now someone did it to us.. The real question is, was it a consortium of foreign private equity firms, or were those controlled by actual countries, like our global enemies? We’ll never know, because none of you are looking or reading the financials and following the trails to get and demand real answers.. Yes, we were greedy, but who was supplying the capital behind it all and to what aim? Now those are interesting questions…Politicans, in a two party controlled system are all the same..
