Who Won The Debate — Your Call

It’s over.  Round 2 done.  The issues and jabs were flying.  McCain took on Washington’s waseful appetite for pork, spoke of his military experience…Obama said health care was every American’s right and he spoke of the impacts of the misguided invasion of Iraq.  Conventional wisdom held that John McCain needed a break out night.  Who won?

I think the abc news commentators were blatantly biased against John McCain. John McCain did an outstanding job, answered questions directly and clearly while Obama clearly stumbled and fumbled. This is a clear example of media spin – shame on you!

Posted by: John Wallace | October 7, 2008, 10:53 pm 10:53 pm

Barack Obama looked more Presidental, he also looked calm and factual. John McCain looked angry and looked and sounded like he had contempt for Barack Obama. Obama clearly stood out and one by taking a higher more mature road.

Obama won on substance. Also, I didn’t like McCain’s snide “that one” comment refering to Obama. It struck me as revealing a certain nastiness under the surface on McCain’s part.

Posted by: Dan Kuhn | October 7, 2008, 10:55 pm 10:55 pm

Obama won hands down because he answered the questions in depth and articulated his plans for getting our country back on track with clarity, insight and in a believable manner.

Posted by: Kathleen Epstein | October 7, 2008, 10:55 pm 10:55 pm

Obama wins more or less based on style points. But even if it was a tie, which it could have been, McCain needed a gamechanger and didn’t get it. Overall, this night benefited Obama and hurt McCain.

Posted by: Zach | October 7, 2008, 10:55 pm 10:55 pm

McCain. McCain did answer the Israel question and Obama did not.

Posted by: Christie | October 7, 2008, 10:55 pm 10:55 pm

Obama looked more presidential and answered the questions. McCain seemed angry and his answers had a lot of holes in them.

Posted by: Peter Hayes | October 7, 2008, 10:55 pm 10:55 pm

McCain was obviously the winner tonight. You had a real man with experience and then you had an infant who told the moderator, ” you go ahead Tom”. Nice of the ego to give Brokaw permission.
Barack has a nice smile but he cannot answer any question without arrogance. McCain makes me feel confident that we will be safe and that we will not drift into Socialism – I don’t get that feeling with Obama.

Posted by: Mark | October 7, 2008, 10:55 pm 10:55 pm

Posted by: Shawna | October 7, 2008, 10:55 pm 10:55 pm

OBAMA! Clearly landed a gentleman’s knockout! He explained exactly what and how he plans to do to help Americans live a prosperous life and bring and end to the invasion of Iraq and refocus the war on terror to the terrorists who attacked us. Peace vs war, defense is always mandatory and AMERICANS are first not McCain’s rich buddies!

Posted by: Jane | October 7, 2008, 10:55 pm 10:55 pm

Here is the thing. The both did good on style as McCain did poorly on style last time. So it can be agreed they both did great on style.
The issue McCain has is Falsehoods. He says these things and then the viewers go and look it up and see that it is not true and that will ultimately cost McCain.
Based on more truths i give it to Obama08

Obama was so right on with his responses. He was very composed and showed how he might handle any situation we may face.

Posted by: dianna | October 7, 2008, 10:58 pm 10:58 pm

Can no one on this blog; Democrat or Republican, admit that, yet again, the debate was a draw. Barack’s answers were more studied, but he came across as his “distant” self again. McCain connected more with the people in the crowd on a one-on-one level [esp. the last man who initiated the handshake with McCain]. However, his answers seemed more disjointed. A DRAW. I plan to vote for McCain [and I am a lifelong Democrat], but I am honest and man enough to admit that BOTH Barack and John did perfectly fine. Again.

Obama speaks well, however, if you actually delve into what he says, it makes no logical sense. Overall, he has no substance.
John McCain not only won the debate, he proved tonight why he is the only man for the job. HE is the only one with a plan for the economy to get it up and started again.
New slogan “Vote John McCain because B.O. stinks!”

McCain won again, but these debates don’t really matter. Like watching the dancers after the Titanic started sinking, the economy is going to sink so low it will create its own tax cuts.

Sen. Obama answered the questions with insight, grace, and intelligence. He fared better by a large margin. No contest!

Posted by: Paul D | October 7, 2008, 10:59 pm 10:59 pm

That’s crazy! You look at media websites and you see more people saying Obama won. But if you look at None media websites that have polls set up, McCain won.

Posted by: cindy | October 7, 2008, 10:59 pm 10:59 pm

Obama won.
McCain’s idea of buying up mortgages and renegotiating the principle and terms was essentially what the Democrats wanted in the Rescue Bill (it would have been a Rescue Bill if that were the case, but instead it is a BAILOUT) but the Republicans and McCain were adamantly opposed to helping those who need it most.

Obama, hands down!

Posted by: Bella | October 7, 2008, 10:59 pm 10:59 pm

Obama’s plais seemed more balanced. His approach seemed thoughtful. I think he will make a better President.

Posted by: Monica | October 7, 2008, 10:59 pm 10:59 pm

Obama won the debate hands down! McCain was erratic in his statements and his movements around the stage and looked at his many notes.

Obama! No question about it.

Posted by: Sher | October 7, 2008, 10:59 pm 10:59 pm

McCain won. He has genuine substance. Obama is mechanical and smug. McCain has depth and compassion. Obama doesn’t have the experience to lead our nation — 2 years as a junior senator — scarey!!

Obama faced the issues and answered the questions. McCain worked off Palin’s debate book – ramble on and avoid the question. Big win for Obama.

OBAMA. I thought it was going to be a better match-up, given that McCain claims this is his forum. My friends, he bit the dust. Guess ‘That One’ will be the One That Got Away.

Posted by: Wow | October 7, 2008, 10:59 pm 10:59 pm

Obama won this debate. McCain wishes to continue the past policies of Bush. A freeze on spending is the worst thing to do in an economic recession. McCain’s health plan was denounced by the U.S. Chamber of Business as bad for business and consumers.

McCain definitely won! Sorry, George – you missed this call. If you really listen to Obama, you realize that it is just spin. At the end of the day, it was McCain that left me in tears that he gets what it means to be an American – to get tough when you need it, to survive, to fight and win! When the going gets tough, you need people who know how to survive and that you can count on.

Posted by: Marcia Cole-Yocom | October 7, 2008, 11:02 pm 11:02 pm

OBAMA won by a landslide! He offers solutions to the very difficult problems we face today. McCain is full of empty rhetoric. Obama is calm and confident and presidential. I trust that he will look out for the Middle Class and help us get back on our feet again. McCain is just going to give handouts to the super rich, just like they have been the last 8 years.

McCain consistently answered the questions posed, while Obama continued with rhetoric. Has anyone given any thought to why the markets are still in a downturn even though Congress has passed and the President has signed a $700 billion bailout/rescue plan? How about the fact that there are a lot of Americans running scared that an inexperienced Obama is leading in the Presidential polls and they are getting what money they have in the market out in case he becomes President and takes it all to fund his entitlement programs?

I sense obvious partisanship from both Republicans and Democrats: Anyone claiming McCain or Obama won hands down wasn’t listening well enough and lacks any sense of impartial judgment.

Obama lost on dishonesty and illogistics. He said that he will use a scalpel instead of a hatchet to solve America’s problem. But you can’t use a small precision scalpel on hundreds of millions of subprime morgages, major financial institutions in ruins, America’s homeland security issues, high rate of employment. It’s using the scalpel to cut his way into the forest with thick groves, bushes, snakes and tigers.

Obama no doubt. McCain comes across as condescending (my friends…), terse, and combative – cranky old man syndrome. Barack seems comfortable, likeable, more in touch with the room.

I have to be honest. McCain really does look unsure, unsteady, and erratic. I think he’s 100% negative and extremely dangerous. Clearly, many Americans agree with me.
Obama, on the other hand, seems to have real ideas, conducts himself well, and looks and sounds very presidential. He’s run an excellent campaign and proven himself in 2 debates now. I think this race is over.

OBAMA

Posted by: SANDY | October 7, 2008, 11:06 pm 11:06 pm

Over all Obama won the debate. McCain had a chance to impose himself when he was talking about the KGB and Easter Europe but instead of keeping the conversation with the voters he decided to use his time to insult Barack, and I think people are really gettin tired of negative attacks this time around. McCain had a few chances but he blew it. GOPers will say he won, but Independents and Democrats will give it to Obama. He was clear, and kept the focus on the issues.

Posted by: jack bender | October 7, 2008, 11:06 pm 11:06 pm

Obama won. He gave eloquent, clear, confident answers. McCain looked like a bumbling, confused old man at times. It was kind of sad watching him because he was a decent candidate 8 years ago, but his age has caught up with him. The last thing we can afford in times of economic and international crisis is a president who is losing his mental faculties.

Barack Obama won hands down Mccain was full of himself and made jokes that were not only inappropriate ( to tom ) but made him look self centered and desperate. The last Debate was a draw this one proved that Mccain has lost his footing

Posted by: Nicole | October 7, 2008, 11:06 pm 11:06 pm

It wasn’t even close. Obama won this debate handily. He inspires confidence in me; he clearly inspired the same confidence in those who were in the studio with him. There were many nods and smiles when he spoke. I also love Obama’s body language–that of a man completely comfortable in his own skin, utterly un-self-conscious and outwardly oriented.

My respect for McCain has fallen considerably – I’m not sure if its old age or desperation because of the latest polls. Obama is clearly more thoughtful, articulate, has a global perspective, and will be a great president.

Posted by: Decided | October 7, 2008, 11:07 pm 11:07 pm

McCain did. The key emphasis that McCain got in tonight include the fact that Obama took credit for things he didn’t do, Obama is for big government and distrust of the people, and Obama’s lack of experience. But in other ways, McCain under-emphasized things. He didn’t mention that Obama’s advisors included the two leaders of Freddie and Fannie. He didn’t emphasize that we are who we associate. There’s more to come once Corsi gets back to this country. That will be big news!

Posted by: Gina | October 7, 2008, 11:07 pm 11:07 pm

Obama won.
McCain got off-topic too often and seemed to be voicing fragmented thoughts.
Obama stayed on topic and spoke from the heart but with clear logic on solutions to the crisis we are in.

OBAMA WON!!!
He was clear, Presidential, and McCain was simply no match (muddled answers with and the “my friends” thing is grating, and feels hypocritical). The contrast between the future and past was clear tonight – Barack once again has shown that he is a 21st century leader who can elevate the discourse and put us back on the right track.

Posted by: Linda Porter | October 7, 2008, 11:07 pm 11:07 pm

I am very frustrated about our economy because no one ever asks either candidate what they will do about all the jobs going to other countries, leaving the American people with no means of fending for themselves. Is this just our problem or does either candidate recognize the problem and has a way of fixing it? If our jobs go across the seas or across borders ,we can not keep our homes or buy necessities like aotomobiles and gasoline.

Posted by: Clarence | October 7, 2008, 11:08 pm 11:08 pm

McCain won this one. It was clear–especially toward the end–that he was the one with more experience and knew what he was talking about because he actually answered the questions given by the audience. Obama dodged many of the questions (i.e. when asked what to do about Israel or any foreign policy) by getting off topic and talking about something else.

Obama is a class act, and has the substance behind him to lead this country in the future. McCain (Smirky McSmirk) is so out of touch – he didn’t even stay in the room to talk to the people. He’s too good for that!

Posted by: Bonnie | October 7, 2008, 11:08 pm 11:08 pm

Obama won…..McCain did ok, but was trying to make Obama look inferior with his smirky comments and the “that one” remark! Very poor for a Presidential never gonna be!

Posted by: RinFL | October 7, 2008, 11:08 pm 11:08 pm

Obama, no question, not only policy-wise, but also presentation-wise. McCain came across as both arrogant and desperate, oddly enough. And if only I got a dime for every time he muttered, “My friends…” Good lord.

Posted by: Emma | October 7, 2008, 11:08 pm 11:08 pm

I am really bothered by McCain’s disdain for and outright animosity toward Obama. If this is how he treats a political adversary, how will he interact with our country’s (too many) adversaries? By turning his back on them? Refusing to shake their hands? Not looking at them? Yeah, THAT would be effective.

Obama won again. He showed that he can stand toe to toe with McCain and demostrate that he will make a great leader.

Posted by: Denise Oliver | October 7, 2008, 11:09 pm 11:09 pm

Obama won. I was undecided but made up my mind after seeing how McCain doesn’t even understand the basic concept of prioritization when asked to prioritize initiatives. McCain seems to think that we can do everything with the same priority, we can cut taxes for everyone and keep wasting money in Iraq and with all of that he thinks the economy will be stronger. He is clearly not prepared.

Posted by: RealConservative | October 7, 2008, 11:09 pm 11:09 pm

I supported Obama…until tonight. Things are too desperate to let a kid in the White House. I’m a registered Democrat, but I’m an American first. And as a proud American, I will vote for John McCain. That will be the best choice for our nation.

I think McCain started well, showing clearly that he felt comfortable with the town-hall setting. However, Obama caught up fast and actually ended up having more shining moments — health care in particular, but also even in areas usually viewed as McCain’s turf like Iraq, Iran and Pakistan. His closing statements were great. Overall, I think Obama won.

I am appalled by the tactics of the McPain team. I hope Americans will really see them as they are. They couldn’t tell the truth if their lives depended on it! They should be ashamed of themselves. Wink, wink!

Obama presented thoughtful, intelligent answers yet still had the force to counter McCain’s attacks. His answers, though lengthy, required intent and clarity. He’s very eloquent and stately.
McCain tripped over his words repeatedly, looked angry, came across–more than a few times–as condescending, and rudely referred to Obama as “That One.”
I doubt this is the tide turner McCain was hoping for.

McCain won tonight, Palin won last week, and McCain the week before that. I am glad that he won and hope that others are drawn to vote for him. His economic plan is good and would help everyone. His plan is to lower taxes on all businesses, not just the large corporations like his opponent talks about. This would help to keep jobs here, instead of them being shopped out to India and other countries. I am also concerned about the negative news stories I have heard about Obama this past week with his various relationships with people whose actions–not just views–are Anti-American and meet the definition of a terrorist.

This was, I think, a mauling: a devastating and possibly electorally fatal debate for McCain. Even on Russia, he sounded a little out of it. I’ve watched a lot of debates and participated in many. I love debate and was trained as a boy in the British system to be a debater. I debated dozens of times at Oxofrd. All I can say is that, simply on terms of substance, clarity, empathy, style and authority, this has not just been an Obama victory. It has been a wipe-out.It has been about as big a wipe-out as I can remember in a presidential debate. It reminds me of the 1992 Clinton-Perot-Bush debate. I don’t really see how the McCain campaign survives this.

Obama was clear and had plans and outline for America’s future. McCain was more interested in attacking Obama. It didn’t work. Obama won.

I try not to make decisions based upon party lines. My blood does not run red or blue…more purple : ) Everyone has something to offer and it is important to hear all sides of an argument. I wish our politicans could work together to solve our country’s problems instead of fighting like school-yard chaps. Both candidates had strong points and valid arguments. However I must admit tht I think OBAMA did a better job in this particualar debate.

Posted by: Dempublican | October 7, 2008, 11:13 pm 11:13 pm

Obama definately won. He’s terrific – so calm, articulate, intelligent, gifted. McCain is bitter and angry and so outrageous in his attack ads filled with lies. The worst part of the debate was when McCain referred to Obama as “that one.”
Why do you think McCain left the debate hall right away? Because he knew he lost and he was mad.

Posted by: Valerie | October 7, 2008, 11:13 pm 11:13 pm

John McCain clearly lost on every count. He seemed destitute and showed his age. Barack Obama was cool and collected, but engaging, this time sounded smart and very presidential! Clearly, Obama was the hands down winner!

Why did McCain refuse to shake Obama’s hand if he is so bipartisan?

Obama really showed his inexperience tonight.

Posted by: bassmn2008 | October 7, 2008, 11:14 pm 11:14 pm

After this debate I have even more confidence that Obama will be able to lead the country and has what it takes to bring the country together. McCain seems more and more out of touch and seemed very arrogant and disdainful to Obama. That kind of attitude makes me think he would divide this country even more–we don’t need that.

Posted by: Molly | October 7, 2008, 11:14 pm 11:14 pm

If you watched the debate, then there’s little doubt that McCain won. He showed a steady command tonight. Obama stumbled across his points, at times leaving more confusion than answers. I felt that this debate drove me more towards trusting McCain and more nervous about the prospect of an Obama presidency.

Posted by: Tim | October 7, 2008, 11:14 pm 11:14 pm

Obama came out on top tonight. McCain seemed more like he was addressing a 4th of July party than presenting ideas about how to fix the mess we’re in. And WHAT was that crazy idea of his about the taxpayers paying off the bad debts of people who borrowed too much to buy their house? If the government’s going to start paying off private debts, it can throw mine in too!

Posted by: Michael | October 7, 2008, 11:14 pm 11:14 pm

Senator Obama won the debate. His economic plan is what we need to help our nation out of its economic crisis. Obama is a gentleman that has integrity. He is more empathetic to the plight of the middle-class.

Posted by: Victoria | October 7, 2008, 11:14 pm 11:14 pm

McCain has a better grasp on reality than Mr. Obama.
Obama’s involvement in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should give all of us a heads-up as to how he will really handle the economy. Why is Franklin Raines, one of the ones who mismanaged Fannie Mae one of Obama’s economic advisors? If Raines advises Obama as he ran Fannie Mae, we’re in deep kimche.
By the way, why do three of Obama’s Kenyan relatives keep saying he was born in Kenya?

I was frustrated that on many questions, neither of them gave a real answer, they used the time to make points they’ve both made before. I get really tired of McCain saying, “I know how to do that.” and then not saying anything specific about how. He does that a lot. I also get tired of him misrepresenting both his own and Obama’s records. He does that constantly. He ought to look at the polls. It ain’t working.
I thought Obama was more specific, more to the point on most questions, and he’s just generally a lot more imaginative about how to approach problems.
I give him an A-. McCain a B- to C.

One of the best debates of our time.
This will go down in history.
I’ve seen many debates, and have yet to see someone come out on top the way Barack Obama did tonight.
He is truly remarkable and CLEARLY destroyed Mccain in this debate.
Mccain’s FORCED WHISPERING doesn’t work. I feel he’s lying and talking down to people and he constantly does it. Like he’s pleading and begging you to believe him when you know it’s BS.
We’ve seen this before and I don’t think we’ll fall for it again.
Not only was there no surprise from Mccain, but there was nothing of value either. Your constant babbling of OLD talking points is ridiculous.

McCain without question! Obama didn’t keep his cool, didn’t stick to the rules, didn’t answer the questions – he is a joke. He acted like a child with his responses. What a joke. What’s wrong with being old? I’m young (and highly educated – thank you many student loans and a lot of hard work) and believe in people with experience, and by the way, McCain is right with his Simple Economics. Obama has no leadership abilities. In the first 15 minutes, he flip-flopped on issues that he was strong on before being a candidate, he also flat out lied and didn’t answer his questions. Obviously those who believe Obama won didn’t pay attention, don’t truly understand the problems with the economy and are voting for him for the wrong reasons. God Bless America – only here are the ignorant, misguided, and uneducated are allowed to vote and voice their ridiculous opinions.

McCain is my Senator, and if his time as Senator is any indication of how he will be as president, don’t expect him to show up for work, or work for Americans. CBS News and Knowledge Networks have, once again, conducted a nationally representative poll of uncommitted voters to get their immediate reaction to tonight’s presidential debate.
And this new poll has good news for the Democratic ticket: Just as in the first presidential debate and the vice presidential face off, more uncommitted voters say the Democratic candidate won the debate. (The exact numbers may change as more respondents complete the survey.)
Thirty-nine percent of the 400 uncommitted voters surveyed identified Barack Obama as tonight’s winner; 27 percent said John McCain won, while 35 percent saw the debate as a draw.
After the debate, 68 percent of uncommitted voters said that they think Obama will make the right decisions on the economy, compared to 54 percent who said that before the debate. Fewer thought McCain would do so – 49 percent after the debate, and 41 percent before.
Before the debate, 60 percent thought Obama understands voters’ needs and problems; that rose to 80 percent after the debate. For McCain, 35 percent felt he understands voters’ needs before the debate, and 46 percent thought so afterwards.
Barack Obama also did better than McCan among working class.

McCain won! Obama couldn’t even answer a question without a long pause and a resounding uhhhhhhhhh. If you think that makes Obama the winner you must be drinking the kool-aid.

Obama won tonight. What was up with McCain’s “that one” comment? With the Hoover/Tip O’Neil comments and bad jokes, he came off like yesterday’s pizza, old and cheesy.

Posted by: Wanda | October 7, 2008, 11:22 pm 11:22 pm

All of you who said Obama must have not been watching the same debate. Any objective observer would have to say that McCain was more confident, direct, and composed than Obama who seemed to fill most of his time by stuttering.

McCain clearly has knowledge of issues and years of experience where Obama has promises. Yes, Obama talks a great game, but I don’t see how our country can elect a president based on just “words”….promises. Go borrow money at your local bank and they won’t accept just a PROMISE …. they want collateral. John McCain has collateral.

Posted by: Susan T | October 7, 2008, 11:22 pm 11:22 pm

Obama has brains to run this country.
McCain can keep his military experince, this is a new game .Bush sent your families to die and Mcain wants to continue, does he know how much a gallon of milk cost?

Posted by: vanessa | October 7, 2008, 11:22 pm 11:22 pm

Obama won due to his overall intelligence as well as his knowledge about the issues. This was obvious regardless of your party affiliation.

I generally have pretty measured opinions about politicians. But I think, in this one, McCain came out looking like the innocuous nerd in a horror movie who’s discovered at the end to be the grandaddy of all the vampires, and who finally goes down with lots of sputtering threats and tyrannical outbursts. Obama won no question, as all the sources apparently agree.

Posted by: joshua | October 7, 2008, 11:23 pm 11:23 pm

McCain…it’s the same as Bush. Big business can take care of everybody. When will “Joe-Six Pack” wake up. You are getting throw to the wolves…can’t you see??? Know you can’t…you don’t have time to think on the way to the unemployed office.

For those of you that are “concerned” about the “negative” stories about Obama’s “relationship” with “anti-Americans”, are you that moronic to buy into that line?
McCain is desperate. McCain was shaky tonight. McCain was an angry old man that referred to his opponent not as an honorable senator, but “THAT ONE!!” McCain insulted a young man who asked a question about the economy by saying that he might not know what Fannie Mae was before the economic crisis.
Obama was calm, collected, and PRESIDENTIAL. He was the clear winner. To think that McCain won, c’mon!

McCain looked old. He walked haltingly, seemed to almost shuffle across the floor, looked like he was leaning on stand for support sometimes. Obama was the alpha male, physically. On talking points it looked pretty even. Big plus for McCain that someone finally suggested we guarantee/buy up failing mortgages. My opinion – if we are going to bail out foolish people anyway to save the economy, let’s buy out foolish homebuyers and solve the underlying problem, not foolish bankers and investment firms.
McCain needed to turn things around. He did not. So he lost.

Posted by: Janine | October 7, 2008, 11:24 pm 11:24 pm

Obama “won” the debate, but what exactly did he win? The most boring debate so far, with absolutely nothing new from either candidate. They are both more concerned with the past than the future, and BOTH danced around the questions, quickly reverting to their regular campaign rhetoric.
If we were to “score” the debate on actual substance, it would be a tie: 0 to 0.

Wouldn McBush not act and let him ole Bin get away? Obama never said once he would attack pakistan, he said he would do what it takes to kill the real reason 9/11 happened.
Less of the same (Mc Bush) and more of the change. Obama/Biden in 08

MCCAIN WON! McCain was to the point and answered each question appropriately, with heart and love of his country. McCain also has a PLAN for our country. On the contrary Obama didn’t. He just danced around the questions and Bush Bashed with no direct answers to anything, or his plan. He also went overtime for answers and constantly had to give the last word after McCain’s, how immature. Obama has no substance. MCain most certainly DOES!

McCain showed no real plan for the economy except more of the same, we can not afford this anymore.
If you can Trust Wall Street then I guess you can trust McCain, I for one do Not.
McCain also showed how much of an angry hot head is really is, not someone you want to trust with his finger on the button of our nuclear arsenal.

Posted by: Jim | October 7, 2008, 11:25 pm 11:25 pm

Obama won the debate totally. He is simply the wiser man. McCain was connected to the Savings & Loan Crisis in the 80′s and continues to fight for the government deregulation that has led us all to the $700+ billion dollar bailout we face today. People who continue to support McCain after knowing his record must admit they have a bias against Obama that prevents them from supporting the absolute best candidate for president.

You’ll find as it was seen this week the Obama gang caught in early voting fraud in multi states is doing the same thing here as one person pretending to be 100 in their responses here but if we really want to save our country your not going to vote for a racist who may have even sold drugs to your kids, who is a outright liar and will be the one to force this country into a civil war that will end this country and lives of many who drank his cool-aid.

Posted by: 99vette | October 7, 2008, 11:25 pm 11:25 pm

Obama won.
Mr. McCain referred to Obama as “that one” and doesn’t know how to prioritize. He looks desperate, and assumes that someone asking an economy question would not know what Freddy Mac or Fannie Mae is. He seems to get worse the closer we get to November 4th.

Posted by: Joe | October 7, 2008, 11:25 pm 11:25 pm

Obama did well. He was not DISRESPECTFUL as was McCain. Obama gave more specifics about what to do for all of America not just about the economy and the war.

Obama is obviously the smarter, cooler, calmer and more collected man. He gives details and rational plans for what he would do, and is not phased by McCain’s pitiful attempts to ruffle his feathers.
I think it’s obvious who graduated near last in their class and who graduated near the top. I’m for a smarter president this time around! There’s too much at stake!

Obama definitely won. He clearly has ALL of the American people’s well-being in mind in his plans, and can add. McCain continues to lie and muddy the waters trying to muddy the waters with inaccurate accusations of spend and tax. It’s easy to make a plan to spend say $1M on head start if you save $300M in tax cuts from Fortune 500 company CEO tax cuts, and then increase those (corrupt, greedy publicly traded/ wall street business’s and people’s taxes a little more (for once).

Please don’t ever claim to be a supporter of women’s rights as long as you support Palin, either. Palin is so anti-woman, it’s digusting.

I’d definitely say Obama. It’s just so disappointing to see John McCain just flailing around like that stringing together phrases. Sure Obama didn’t answer all the questions (especially that first one – the guy wanted his retirement funds bailed out, not what the future of America would be), but McCain went after obama for saying “you’d attack pakistan”, when that’s not what he said. Bush sends in drones to attack on Pakistani territory – that’s obviously what Obama plans to do to. Not invade. I mean, McCain sounded like he caught Palinitis.
I will say the best moment of the debate (online) was after it was over, and someone didn’t turn Brokaw’s mic off, and he said he wished he had a trap door set up, amongst other sarcastic comments. I wish you had one too.

I’m putting a great bottle of sparkling wine in the fridge. Obama sealed the deal tonight with the citizens of America. I only wish we could vote tomorrow and start cleaning house. The stuff lurking in this FORMER BUSH Administration, especially in the Cheney offices will make Halloween look like Easter. It’s time for that ol’ reptile to leave the country and take all his PNAC freak buddies with him.
YAY OBAMA!!! TIME FOR A CHANGE!!!!

McCain, on the other hand, only showed himself to be unhinged and out of touch. I am ready to salute President Obama! With pride.

McCain looked really creepy

Posted by: DenverVoter | October 7, 2008, 11:32 pm 11:32 pm

McCain creamed Obama on foreign affairs and did well on the economy. Liberals are so blinded and love their guy no matter what. Obama was not that good and many times he would not answer the questions. He did not answer the lady’s question from Illinois(the on line question for one). Obama did not answer the question about Israel either.

Posted by: mike | October 7, 2008, 11:32 pm 11:32 pm

Anyone who thinks Obama won is wrong. Although he failed to answer several questons and was rude in trying to take more time than the agreed upon amount, there was one question he could not possibly answer or explain. His biggest failure was to explain why someone who was the largest or second largest recipient of Freddy Mac and Fannie May was acting in the people’s interest. He blames Bush for everything and ignores what Barney Frank and Chris Dodd did. He also fails to explain why someone who can’t afford to buy a house was allowed to do so in the first place. This politically correct policy from Bill Clinton, the democrats, the Congressional Black Caucus and Acorn are the root of the mortgage crisis. Only a fool would believe Obama. He is the poster child for politics as usual.

Obama Won. It was sad to see McCain flailing around like an old desperate man after his service to our country. I think he clings to that too much though. I was in the military as well but that hardly qualifies me to be president. I also don’t like how McCain tended to ignore the African American people in the audience when they asked questions but would walk (uncomfortably) close to the anglo members of the audience. I am glad to see that Obama will take this country in a new direction instead of horrible path that DUBYA has left us on.

Listen folks, neither won, they both dodged the question that matter most-The Economy- both stumbled throughout, and John McCain called Obama- “THAT ONE!”-
Mccain attempted to appease to the people but rally came across as annoying.
Obama needs to work on speaking without a teleprompter and become more personable.
Obama will win the election- If you did not notice- more people in the audience were requesting pictures with Obama than McCain. Hmm!

Why would anyone vote for a person because of his age, appearence, ability to make speeches, debate, etc.
Anyone who has good judgement would look at what a person stands for, his voting record, his friends, the people he associates with. Words of wisdom from my mother, “birds of a feather flock together”.
In this case McCain is a winner. He
has a love for this country that makes him a winner in every way!

I was looking for something more from Sen. McCain besides mud-slinging. He’s very good in town hall style meetings and I thought he would dominate. Unfortunately, all I saw was the same talking points from the last debate – nothing new that would make me say “that’s my guy”. I have to concede this one to Sen. Obama.

Substance? There was NO substance in tonight’s debate. Obama TALKS better, but neither candidate answered the questions.
Absolutely nothing new came out of this so-called debate; it was an hour and a half of the same campaign rhetoric we’ve been hearing for two months.
McCain acted tired of the whole thing and Obama acted bored.

Posted by: Pat | October 7, 2008, 11:35 pm 11:35 pm

I think Obama won the debate because he he was able to elucidate his plans on Economy, healthcare, and Education,of course, which I think is very important at this time.America faces a very tough challenge at this level.I think it’s time we started giving Education a big priority. If not, there is no way we can talk about competitiveness in this world. It’s time we started using our Citizens to do some knowledgeable jobs instead of investing so much money in foreigners to do the jobs that we can do.But without the necessary Education,we’ll always have to beg them to work for us.And on healthcare,I think Obama presented himself more responsible than a McCain that leaves us on a bridge to no where with a health plan that would jeopardize those that are more at stake in finding a good healthcare company because they have pre-existing conditions.Obama addressed his points more clearly than McCain and I congratulate him for showing so much wisdom in handling his opponent disrespectful remarks;that’s exactly what we need in a President.

Senator McCain is a fellow military brat. He has forgotten what it is like being the child our military personnel and he doesn’t give a damn whether their parent(s) live or die. This is probably why Marine Corps brats Ann and Nancy Wilson told the McCain/Palin campaign to stop using their song, “Barracuda,” because of their disgust with his foreign/national security policies.

Obama by far! Poor McCain shuffled around looking like Fred Sanford (Red Fox) from the 70′s show Sanford and Son. His idea to buy up mortgages was a last ditch effort to get desperate people to vote for him. I am almost (give me another month or two!) one of those people and it ain’t gonna happen, Buddy! Obama was presidential, articulate, respectful, compassionate, on-point, and detailed. He didn’t need to say “My Friends” every 6 seconds to convey compassion. Obama does that with ease and little effort.

If own a company and hiring a employee???
I do own a company and so does each and every one of us do its called the united states !!! This whole thing is about hiring a employee to run our company which is worth trillions to keep or lose its not about a show to me its hiring the best qualified !! Ive been on both sides of the fence ive been a manager at a car lot and now im out here looking for a job !!! Im 40 yrs old i dont have a collage degree or a formal education !! But what i do have is experience in life !!! I see things like this and so should alot of other people !! Look at the records and who has the experience not what i caan do its what they have done !!! Is that who you hire its who i hire !!!! Do i risk my company with a person who has 2 yrs experience or someone who has 40 yrs experience ?? This is a job let me remind you !!! Knowing that the question is this !! But first out here in the real world looking for a job I sell things so i wont apply to be a doctor or be a president !!! One of our choices is in sales and the other lives his career and has been living it !! Remember you are hiring a employee for your company !!! Its just that simple not a salesman or a actor you see the resumes and that should be a big factor !!! One choice was still a boy when the other was already on the job !!! The reality is this the 1 person could ask the other person a question about the job which have been there and which is going to ask how to solve a problem ??? which company would you invest in a 2 yrs old company that really doesnt have a resume and could be a gamble on a return or lose on investment ??? Or do you invest in a 40 yr company which has showed returns and must be stable because others have been investing for yrs !!! By which the company has grown which is shown arizona !!! If i recall they have a city there that was growning faster then any other in this country not to long ago !!!! People from up here in ohio where talking about moving there for yrs !!! So my question is this do you gamble or go with experience ??? Well i know in the real world the guy with the most experience gets the job !! Why is it such a tuff choice now i know why !! Take away the news and all the opinions and look at the resume then hire a employee !!!! Remember its your company and your money we are playing with !! Im not gambling when it comes to my money and i dont hire the person who knows what i want to hear i hire the guy who tells me where my company is wrong that why im talking to him in the first place he knows he has the experience !!!! I leave the gambling at the poker table i dont gamble with my money !!! So you decide your company is losing money say its a computer company would you talk to bill gates(mcain) or obama ???? Out here in the real world it would be bill gates for most only in tv land would obama get the job !!! I sold cars for 10 yrs and he sounds like many of managers i worked for !!! You know how most people feel about car salesman you are one of them !!! So go ahead and hire your employee on that note !!!!! Just something to think about !!!!
AL George !!!

Obama, but I thought both candidates did an exceptional job. McCain still held up his side of the bargain when it came to foriegn policy…he obviously knows what he’s talking about and I think he has an advantage because he has had more experience than Obama, but I don’t think its reasonable to say that we are going to get iranians and pakistanis to like us and that we were going to try to become their friends…it’s like trying to befriend terrorists. When it comes to economic policies…at this point, no matter which candidate wins they are going to struggle with it because its not going to get better anytime soon…just look at the markets…

If he did that it would show the people the true Obama and no one would vote for him.

Without a doubt– Barack Obama scored another homerun tonight. While I’d originally considered voting McCain, the performance of McCain and Palin has convinced me that it is Obama & Co. who truly have our nation’s interests most at heart, as evidenced by both debates, now.

Obama wins because he MUST. Please, all you “Joe Six Packs” who fall for Sarah Palin’s patronizing cliches – do us all a favor and treat yourself to a second six-pack the night before the election so you’ll be too hungover to vote. Let those of us who actually want someone smarter than we are to run the country, vote in the guys who actually are.

Obama clearly was the Professional looking and acting one. Very Presidential. McCain was very unprofessional, when Obama had the floor
McCain showed disrespect by also standing and roaming like he was upset and uncomfortable. McCains words of “that one” was very distubing. Obama was clearly tyhe winner once again.

McCAIN WON! After watching the debate, I was thinking that John McCain had won the debate. I was impressed with his passion to serve our country, his positive encouragement, his experience in Vietnam & Congress, his bipartisan efforts, and his knowledge and judgment regarding foreign policy. With the major financial crisis and the wars we have, we need someone with experience. So it was very frustrating for me to hear George Stephanopolus (sp?) announce, just a short moment after the debate was finished, that Obama had won the debate. No, I do not think he had won. To hear George say that right away could sway citizens’ opinions. I think it would be more wise for the media to not say anything until the morning after the debate. That would give us citizens time to think over the debate and make up our own minds.

Posted by: Susan | October 7, 2008, 11:43 pm 11:43 pm

McCain won. Obama, when he actually answered the question, either danced around the question, gave wordy rambled statements, or canned answers from the previous debate. Unlike the liberal news cheerleaders for Obama, I am not convinced that Obama has the judgement, character, or experience to lead. McCain is a true leader and is best suited for the job of President of the United States. Obama is just an empty suit.

I agree with dianna that this was pretty much a draw. He says he’s a democrat planning to vote for McCain. I’m a republican-turned-independant that plans to vote for Obama. We agree this was a draw. No clear knockouts.

Obama won. Mccain needed a grand slam to just catch up to obama. he failed. Palin is hoping someone will assasinate obama. That’s desparate, unamerican, and, insomuch as she voiced her hopes for all to hear, an incitement to violence, which could (should?) have legal repercussions. The only chance left for the mcain palin ticket is for diebold to rig the election. (oh, wait, they’ve had experience at that)

Posted by: Miguel Goyco | October 7, 2008, 11:45 pm 11:45 pm

It’s a shame the media network is in bed with Obama and was the one picking the questions.
The whole debate was manipulated to ensure Obama would have a question that doesn’t line up with one of his talking points.
How can anyone look at Obama and not remember the numbers of years that he attended a congregation where the minister preached anti-American sentiments and G.D. America comments?
How can we support someone whose wife publicly stated that this is the first time in her life that she has ever felt like an American?

Posted by: Mike | October 7, 2008, 11:45 pm 11:45 pm

Obama´s speech sounds like a fairy tale: ´Once upon a time there was a community organizer … ´
Sorry, guys, I don´t want Cinderella man in the White House.
His speech is so ridiculous, naive, idealistic, out of touch that makes me get embarrassed.
He can promise paradise on earth to all americans, but real life is quite different.

McCain. You can’t tax people in a down economy. Both Kennedy and Reagan agreed of this and BOTH had the ecomony thrive when they cut taxes. If you tax businesses, they lay people off…also proven. and then you increase unemployment. If you lower taxes, you increase government revenue. Also proven. McCain!!!

Obama clearly won the debate. McCain is a spoiled, arrogant, child of privilege and it clearly showed during the debate. Does McCain still want to put Social Security in the hands of the Stock Market like Bush? McCain is pro-Big Business as are all of his policies. His choice of Palin as a running mate is a clear example of his poor judgement.

Posted by: Chris | October 7, 2008, 11:47 pm 11:47 pm

John McCain definitively waxed Obama in this debate. It wasn’t even close. McCain was on-point, direct, and exhibited his devotion to America. The comments posted here praising Baraq Obama are laughable. The guy has socialistic views, and I have not seen from him any love for our country. If he wins it will be because over half of the electorate shares his anti-American sentiment, and it will be a sad day for America.

McCain is obviously a cliche-driven, tired, deeply immoral old fool. I’m not a huge Obama fan – but McCain is simply a disaster. Tragic that out of 300+ million people, there’s never a candidate with a good quantitative education – just politicos, ex-military bums, and law-school grads. How about a candidate who could pass even a rudimentary undergrad science & math curriculum, and could therefore have a chance at understanding the complex issues this nation faces?

TIE: *SHOCK* did he just say that? Yes i did because both Mccain and Obama are playing it safe and not really trying. i remember debates where people in the audience cheer after a risky one-liner, did you hear any in the past 2 debates? Nope, actually there were members in the audience who fell asleep.
What Mccain needs to do: He needs to keep showing the connection between Obama and ACORN! Obama was a teacher for this organization, the same organization that forced banks to give out these loans to people who couldnt afford them which caused this mess!
What Obama needs to do: Explain his policies in deph, he doesnt have much of a record to go on so he needs to gain the trust of the people, Saying that he will not raise taxes on 95% of americans and very rarely called for tax cuts at all makes me nervous. Other than that keep showing the connections between McCain and bush and your golden.

Obama was much more concise than McCain, but neither candidate really hit home considering the state our country is in. The U.S. is bankrupt if one will really take a look. The past economics of grow the economy has finally caught up with us and is correcting itself. We as Americans are going to have to realize we cannot operate on credit in the Federal Government as well as in each persons home. We all are going to have to go back to the fact that one only finances an amount that does not exceed 25% of his or hers net worth and our government needs to follow the same thought.

Senator Obama clearly won the debate. He showed a good deal of poise and did answer the questions. McCain, on the other hand, continued his lack of respect for Senator Obama that he displayed in the first debate where he wouldn’t even look Senator Obama in the eye. Tonight, he didn’t even have the respect to call him Senator Obama; instead, he said, “That one.” I am a middle-aged Caucasian female who is deeply offended by John McCain’s arrogance and disrespect. Actually, I just think he’s plain rude. If you want to know if McCain is a real maverick, you might take the time to read the revealing article in Rollingstone on news stands on Oct. 16. Very, very interesting reading.
I do believe Senator Barack Obama will be our next president and I celebrate that fact. Congratulations, Senator Obama!

McCain actually had one good idea to refinance homes. Honestly I never expected a Republican to suggest something like that. That was brave to do considering conservative opposition to doing anything in this crisis.
But in every other aspect of the debate, including economy, health care, energy, and foreign policy, Senator Obama was precise, clear, and Presidential in every respect. John McCain just gave us anticipated lectures, sound bytes and banter, often rhetorically out of focus without providing real, precise answers to the questions asked.

McCAIN WON!
How come nobody asked Obama why he has had Franklin Raines, Tim Howard and Jim Johnson working on his campaign?
Oh, for those of you Obama fans who don’t know who they are–
Franklin Raines – former Chair and a CEO of Fannie Mae who was forced to retire in 2004 and left with $240 million package.
Tim Howard – a former CFO of Fannie Mae that was also forced to retire because of manipulations in 2004 and left with a $20 million “golden” parachute.
Jim Johnson- Former Exec with Lehman Brothers and Fannie Mae is being investigated for taking illegal loans from Countrywide and left with a $21 million package.
So if you’re an Obama fan and have lost your house–think again of the company he keeps and the company he will probably continue to have advise him…
I’m sure abc won’t print this since Charlie is such an Obama fan himself.

Barack Obama is very respectful and humble. He is winning the debates and poles show him ahead. After the last two elections we Americans put George Bush to run this great nation. We will get it wrong again on Nov. 4th sorry to say! Just like the bail out plan already they have started to enjoy themselves with lavish vacations and spar treatments.

I’m a registered independant, but was was in favor of Obama for some time- just full disclosure.
I prepared myself to watch the debtate with an open mind and to feel impressions each candidate left and hear both of their words without judgement based on bias.
Both candidates evaded questions. Both went for spin doctor tactics in attempts to illicit certain responses. Sadly, that is what politics, and so much else in life has become- morphing things that should matter into tiny digestible sound, video, or blog bytes…
Both men are more complex than we saw tonight. The art of polictis is more complex than we saw tonight, hell, life is more complex than a presidential cmapaign and several debates, but we’ve become a culture that eagerly or apathetically hands of our own perosnal reasoning skills to pundits, polls, and funny SNL skits. Our hearts, conditioned by being jaded, sorrounded by defensive walls.
Which candidate answered your own personal questions in such an uncertain time? Calmed your fears? Gave you hope? Made you proud to be American? Made you want to get off the couch and contribute to someone else, to your community, to your country?
In my opinion, those are the questions we should seriously ask ourselves, internally utilizing our own individual brains, before casting our votes, and not relying on others- be it the media, or our co-workers, or our neighbors to tell us what we should think!
For the record, after my diatribe, Obama answered FOR MY REASONING, for MY OWN HEART the questions best, calmed my fears, gave me hope for restoring our relationship in the world. Your answer may be different than mine and that’s ok as long as it comes from your own reason, and your own heart…

Obama’s responses were weak.
My big concern is why haven’t we dug in deeper about Obama’s past associations and radical affiliations months ago when we first heard about Ayres, Wright, ACORN, etc.? Obama sat on a board with a person who has bombed the Pentagon, and this is being passed off as nothing???
For 20 years he sat in the pews of Reverend Wright’s church and says he didn’t know that R. Wright had these ideals.
How convenient it is to blame the bringing up of this “subject” as “McCain’s last ditch effort to smear Obama” well, take a look at Obama’s acquaintenances–I smell a …
And how can the demcrats say that McCain is not focusing on the economy…when look who sat back and said “call me if you need me” and McCain went to Washington and was agreeing to put off the debate until a bailout plan could be worked out. McCain had asked Obama many times for some debate time and each time Obama declined. I hope we hear more in the news media about the support and affiliations that Obama had with these radicals, I have a feeling many eyes are going to be opening.

There are no winners, only the American people as losers. Obama will win and his rederick will in the end change nothing. Taxes will raise, government will become larger and the number of poor will increase and lawsuits will increase as more doctors leave the profession. Politicians are politicians. Everything is cyclical. With either candidate the dysfunction will continue and the economy eventually improve as people are forced to spend money. And the cycle will continue and in 4 years go through the same thing again.

McCaskill’s edge Politico
I mentioned a few days ago that Claire McCaskill’s mild affect masks a bit of a killer, and perhaps the Obama campaign’s deftest surrogate on the attack.
But I was still kind of amused by her brief interaction with Mitt Romney in the press file just now.
McCaskill was stepping out of her chair at the end of an MSNBC interview, and Romney was up next. She and a staffer unplugged her various wires, and she handed Romney the earpiece the guests use to hear the host.
“I spit on this before I put it in,” she said to Romney, with a sweet smile.
UPDATE: Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom emails: “You should have seen what she did to the chair.”

It is a logical fallacy.
It is like I screw up something that was ok, then fix it and, then says that I was right and you were wrong in saying that it was not the right decision to mess with it.
There is an old adage don’t fix it if it is working.
We attacked the wrong country and paid a huge price.

How true this is! Look it up–it wasn’t that long ago — interest rates were never lower…all markets were doing well…then the Democrats did take control of the House and they are blaming the Republican’s and Bush for the mess…again…how convenient!

Obama won. I got very tired of McCain and his “My friends”…..
Both did ok…. but nothing earth shattering! I thought Obama gave the better answers. I too felt that McCain showed no respect and I didn’t like the “that one” remarks either….very rude.
Obama won another round.

Without a doubt Obama won. McCain actually sounds a little unhinged. “That one” plus – Whatever did McCain mean by he would buy all the failed mortgages?

Posted by: Carl | October 8, 2008, 12:18 am 12:18 am

Obama didn’t win because many questions he did not answer but all of the left wing media will put that grand lie out for their guy to manufacture the results for this election. Same thing they did with Kerry.

Posted by: Christie | October 8, 2008, 12:19 am 12:19 am

McCain was more personable. Obama looked mad —and he should be because, he rarely answered the questions posed to him. Obama went on articulated points of his campaign. He did not answer the according to how the question was posed. McCain, did a better job of articulating his policy positions —the issues. Obama talked about generalities and generalities in my perspective do not get us to the bottom line.

Posted by: Sam | October 8, 2008, 12:20 am 12:20 am

Obama Lanslide??????? Who are you kidding! He answered few questions and the ones he did answer, showed his socialist tendencies. Apparently some people are so unversed that they really have no clue what they’re seeing.
McCain answered questions thoroughly and completly and certainly understood, based on experience, what they issues are/were.

LADIES AND GENTLMEN, I GIVE YOU…BARAK H. OBAMA – LISTEN TO THE ISSUES IF YOU HAVE EARS, THINK WHO’S SMARTER IF YOU HAVE BRAINS, FEEL THE RIGHT CHOICE IN YOUR CONSCIENCE IF YOU HAVE A HEART ….
WHAT MAKES A GREAT COUNTRY? – GOOD ECONOMY, WHEN PEOPLE ARE ABLE TO GET AHEAD, NOT BEHIND, HOW WE INTERACT WITH OTHER COUNTRIES, AND HOW WE DON’T WANT TO SEND OUR BRAVE TROOPS DIE IN A WAR THAT MAKES NO SENSE,JUST MORE OIL MONEY FOR THE RICHES – FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS WE WENT SO FAR BACK, AND MCCAIN WILL ONLY MAKE IT WORSE, EVER HEARD OF INVESTING INTO AN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY?, SO THAT OUR RICH OIL TYCOONS WON’T HAVE TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD’S NATURAL RESOURCES.
- OBAMA WON IF OUR NATION HAS ANY LOGIC AND INTELLECT LEFT. AND FOR THOSE PEA BRAINS WHO THINK OTHERWISE, LET ME SAY ONE MORE TIME, LOOK BEHIND THE AGE, RACE, BEHAVIOR OR ORIGIN, LOOK INTO THE MAN’S WAY OF THINKING, AND YOU’LL SEE WHY… ONLY OBAMA!
HERE’S HOPING FOR THE BEST CANDIDATE I’VE SEEN IN A LONG LONG TIME – OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA!

Posted by: Nora | October 8, 2008, 12:21 am 12:21 am

Obama clearly won this debate as he did the 1st debate. McCain is always in attack mode rather than telling us exactly what he would do if President. He’s condescending and rude and thinks it’s cool to sound like a bully. He’s not cool but only makes himself look like an idiot on national TV. When the moderator asks questions of McCain he talks in circles and changes the subject to the topic he’d rather talk about instead of answering the specific question. He reminds me very much of Palin in that respect, only her answers usually turn into gibberish so no one really knows what she is saying. Barack Obama and Joe Biden talk very intelligently and are clear and concise about what they will do to help middle class Americans. That’s why I’m voting for Barack Obama and Joe Biden as President and Vice President of the United States! God Bless America!!!

To answer your question Carl,
Whatever did McCain mean by he would buy all the failed mortgages?
Within the bailout plan that was just passed, there is a 7 billion dollars provision to do exactly this. I was wondering when this component was going to be shared…and it finally was tonight by Mitt Romney.

A vote for Hussein Obama is like a vote for Jimmy Carter.
At least McCain had the backbone not to vote along party lines every time.
Lastly, if you you think Hussein Obama believes in the Bill of Rights, I have some bank stock to sell you at a good price.

Posted by: ronski | October 8, 2008, 12:31 am 12:31 am

Deb, actually Jerry did not say America deserved 9/11.
I am not a Jerry fan but if you are going to quote anyone, your comrade Hussein, or Jerry, (or make a feeble, uneducated, whimsical, grasping, and desperate attempt) try to at least be directionally accurate.

I had a group of 18-year-olds who watched the debate with my husband and I. They were undecided going in, but all decided that MCCAIN easily won the debate. Then they listened to the commentaries that all said differently and were wondering how the NEWS EXPERTS could get it so wrong. My answer is…John McCain easily won the debate and he also won a group of undecided first-time voters!

Palin – 0

M. Olson, thank you for the post.
It gives me and many others a glimmer of hope that there is some intellect left in our future. That an 18 year can figure out less taxes and more spending hmmm how can that be good.
MAYBE Iraq was a bad idea, and what if we did not do what we did, we were attached AGAIN after 9/11, Hussein and his minions (I bet a dollar some do not know what this means) would be saying that Bush and the Republicans were asleep at the wheel.
It is easy to be a Monday morning quarterback; it is even easier if you are a quarterback in the Pee Wee football league.

Penny, if you are talking about the economic mess now, you can thank the democratic congress for this. Funny how this is being overlooked in the Media…but then again, it’s the Media…and of course you have people listening to and believing everything they hear from the Media. I can tell you, anyone the Media promotes is definitely not someone I would be so quick to endorse.

Posted by: Logan | October 8, 2008, 12:55 am 12:55 am

Obama definitely. McCain’s efforts to ingratiate himself with the audience struck me as patently insincere and his maudlin sentiment frankly makes me sick. Further, he attacked Obama using the same old tactics he used in the first debate and spent a lot of time doing so, rather than focusing on the issues and explaining his plans for dealing with them. He can certainly destroy, but can he build? I think not.

Additionally, I am very proud of my record on diversity, respect, and helping people achieve their personal and professional goals and dreams.
I am also very proud of being an American and wish this great country to continue to offer the benefits that it has to all religions, races, etc. If you are also concerned, as it sounds like, perhaps you spend some time and discover what your candidate stands for (an Econ course may also help :)

NORA,
You stated that we went so far back in the past 8 years?????? Where are you getting your information? The first 6 years of the BUSH term, the HOUSE was REPUBLICAN controlled CONGRESS.
A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO
1.) CONSUMER CONFIDENCE STOOD AT A 2 1/2 YEAR HIGH
2.) REGULAR GAS SOLD FOR $2.19 A GALLON
3.) THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE WAS 4.5%
4.) THE DOW HIT A RECORD HIGH 14,000
5.) AMERICAN’S WERE LIVING GOOD
SINCE THE DEMOCRATS TOOK CONTROL OF THE HOUSE
1). CONSUMER CONFIDENCE HAS PLUMMETED
2.) GAS IS AROUND $4 A GALLON
3.) UNEMPLOYMENT IS UP TO 5.5% (10% increase)
4.) 1% of AMERICAN HOMES ARE IN FORECLOSURE
5.) AMERICAN’S HAVE SEEN THEIR HOME EQUITY DROP BY $12 TRILLION AND STILL DROPPING
6.) THE DOW IS DOWN 5000
One thing to remember is the President has NO CONTROL over any of these issues………….
ONLY CONGRESS!N

Logan, great point, Hussein Obama is not in charge (and hopefully will not be). The Congress which has a lower approval rate than Bush is, wait let me check, oh yea, Democratic. Your candidate, is … wait let me check, oh yea, Democratic. So, if 91% of the country is dissatisfied how is adding another Democratic to Washington going to help?

Obama won.

Posted by: kg | October 8, 2008, 1:13 am 1:13 am

Obama won this debate, for the following reasons
-McCain came off as condescending and insincere, how many times did he say “My Friend”, and his demeanor after finshing a response was a like a child saying you are dumb or “Don’t understand” if you don’t agree. And off course his “That one” Comment, and the conotation that it was said needs no additional response.
-McCain suggesting a Spending Freeze on all spending except defense, is nieve and unrealistic, and will make our lives harder; think college is expensive now, think health care is expensive, imagine another natural disaster on our shores, we will be less ready to respond. He also won’t be able to accomplish that.
–McCain inclination that Social Security is simple and easy to fix, how again, with his notion I would assume that he implies the solution is simple, get rid of it, government shouldn’t control any aspect of our lives, well there are some things that should be the responsibility of the government, HealthCare is one of them.
–McCain doesn’t appear to be able to priortize and doesn’t understand that there are times that we will have to prioritize under “Constraints” which apparently he is out of touch with what financial constraints are.
–Obama on each of the issue spoke clearer I have a clearer picture of where he wants to take us, and understands that a president needs to prioritize when faced with external constraints.
–Obama showed understanding that a president’s job is to fundementally guide the countries direction, to strategically utilize diplomacy, also admits might not work, but we at least need to try it, gives us more credibility. We need to speak to enemies as well as allies. Which I do believe that us going to Iraq put Pakistan and Afgahnistan on guard with relations with us.
–But, I think the most significant thing for me is that I believe that if we have a government at all, then our health care is our RIGHT. One of our fellow citizens should not have to lose everything to save a loved one, anyone who think this is the way we should run our country is not a patriotic citizen, because you are so afraid of the Term socialism, Before this idea is written off, research the issue with an open mind and do a comparitive analysis of the effects on a country.
Neither canidate has a perfect history, each of them has had there mistakes, mistatments but the question to ask who is staying on the issues and who is questioning judgements, not questioning Character or morality. THEY ARE INTERVIEWING FOR THE JOB OF OUR PRESIDENT.

To help all out….
Socialism – a government in which the means of planning, producing, and distributing goods is controlled by a central government that theoretically seeks a more just and equitable distribution of property and labor; in actuality, most socialist governments have ended up being no more than dictatorships over workers by a ruling elite.
Communism – a system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single – often authoritarian – party holds power; state controls are imposed with the elimination of private ownership of property or capital while claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people (i.e., a classless society).
I will be voting against either or both of these options … GO McCAIN!!!!

Ronski,
FYI, I have MASTERS DEGREE in ECONOMICS and a PHD from George Mason University’s Institute of Conflict Analisys and Resolution. I don’t mean to boast about it, but you were asking for it.
I am simply trying to show you how shallow it is to use someone’s birth name and make fun of it – look further in your heart, and you will see how much prejudice and stupid that sounds.
Here’s an example, I turned your own poem against you. See how you like it.
Oh, and how Ronski felt hurt when I misspelled his name, poor baby…(doesn’t feel good, doesn’t it?)
Oh, and what does Ronski mean? It clearly has a russian sound to it!!!
Oh, but McCain hates Russia, and we hate Russian names, Ronski, so now we know who you REALLY are – that’s right, for all we know, you’re a spy! and you work for Russians!!! McCain said we need to fight the ronskis, ooops I mean rooskie’s… So really, who’s the comi, my friend!!!
Oops, did Ronski just reaffirm his support for someone who’s continuing to insist that we didn’t give enough lives of our brave troups, so that we can finish something that we started wrong, continued on for years for wrong reasons and gave our precious and young lives for what was it again?
Oh, wait did we ever find weapons of mass distraction?
or wait, were we looking for Osama Bin Laden?
Was there EVER a single proof of al-qaida ties in IRAQ?
Here’s a biblio on that from MSNBC.
NBC, MSNBC and news services
updated 8:11 p.m. ET, 2004
WASHINGTON – Secretary of State Colin Powell reversed a year of administration policy, acknowledging Thursday that he had seen no “smoking gun [or] concrete evidence” of ties between former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and al-Qaida.
HMMMMM…..

Obama, hands down! McCain seemed stiff, brittle and, as usual, condescending… and a bit irritable. Obama was presidential, in command of his information and forward-looking.

OBAMA won.. McCain looked angry, non-presidential, and Palin scares me to death to think she could be President if McCain were to kick the bucket.

Posted by: rjh | October 8, 2008, 7:12 am 7:12 am

Does Obama speak good? Yes. But what is he saying? He dances around the questions. makes you think he answered it and when you look back….there is nothing. Mr. McCain may be old but he does not bring hate among the people. “Tax the rich”. If you are poor don’t worry – I will tax the rich and give it to you. Bill Ayers said “Kill the rich”. What is this hate for the rich all about? It is nothing but trying to persuade neighbors to hate each other and try to take from one another.
Has anyone noticed Mr. Obama when he referred to his “FIRST TERM”. WOW! How many terms does he think he will win?
The polls, they do not reflect anything. A lot of people do not use texting on the cell phones. A lot of people don’t even get on the computer much. They work, they take care of family and they make their vote on Nov 4.

JOHN MCCAIN WON, clear to us whom have intelligence. Herein lies in the problem. Obama supporters (kids in college, young adults at work) who do not work, but sit on the computer all day and swamp the blogs. Unlike McCain supporters who think polls and computer interactive votes are ridiculous. Therefore, you will see that on the blogs.. there are more votes for Obama. When the time comes to vote, McCain supporters will come out IN PERSON..and do what is right for America, which is vote for the man who exudes confidence and experience in being the next commander in chief. Obama is a fad for the younger generation that will fade just like bell bottoms did.

Obama won the debate not just because he’s black. But because he explained every question with honesty and clarity.I think that if people look beyond skin color and look at who has the best plan, then your vote will be easy.Whenever Mcain speaks he only speaks about when he served. He states that he has experience,I would like for him to clarify for me what experience he has in making things better.Through all the debates him nor Sarah Palin has pointed out what they really did in the past to help the American people. Please explain to me Mcain & Palin without attacks.
