Obama’s Choice for AG? Eric Holder?
It looks likely that Eric Holder will be Barack Obama’s choice for Attorney General. ABC’s Jake Tapper, Pierre Thomas and Jason Ryan are reporting that Holder is the top contender for the job. Holder was the number 2 in the Justice Department during the Clinton administration. He would be the first Black American to hold the top justice spot. But a Holder nomination will bring up some controversy. Remember Mark Rich? That’s the super wealthy businessman that President Clinton pardoned in the final hours of his presidential term. Holder was asked by Clinton whether Rich should be pardoned — Rich was charged with tax evasion. Here’s how the AP reports it: "Holder said he was "neutral, leaning towards favorable" on the pardon. Clinton later cited that as among the factors that persuaded him to issue the pardon. Holder has publicly apologized for what he said was a snap decision that he should have paid more attention to. Had he taken more time to review the case, he would have advised against a pardon, he said."

Certainly a story worth reporting, but I still find it somewhat disappointing that the first point of the story is the man’s race. Apparently, even in the year that the first African-American is elected president, we still haven’t gotten to the point where people are “not judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
At some point, perhaps even in my lifetime, a black or Hispanic man or woman will be elected, appointed, or hired, and the ethnicity will not be mentioned. Perhaps in my children’s lifetime, Black History Month will be a thing of the past, and the contributions of all important Americans to our nation’s history will be taught throughout the year. Well, allow me to dream, anyway!

It’s noteworthy and historic because Eric Holder would be the first of his race to become the U.S. AG.

New people and faces doesn’t automatically equate to change. The change starts at the top with Obama’s way of managing and governing the country and it’s resources. Which includes personnel under him.
