Want Some Government Money? Apply Now!

This morning Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson addressed a skeptical press about the latest plans for those 700 billion dollars that were appropriated for the "TARP" — or Troubled Asset Recovery Program. Now Paulson says Treasury won’t buy those "Trouble Assets" — one of the many metamorphoses this program has had in its young life. In the meantime, care to apply for some TARP money? Turns out there’s a five-page, downloadable document to fill in — if you’re interested…here’s the link. And here’s ABC’s Dan Arnall on whether there has been, as he puts it, a "Great TARP Bait & Switch". No Troubled Asset Purchases? Then what are they doing with that $700 billion blank check? They are buying bank stock, not troubled assets. We probably shouldn’t call it the TARP anymore. Instead, they are focused on a capital purchase plan (CPP) which is the widely reported $250 billion plan to use taxpayer money to purchase a stake in banks. "By October 26th we had $115 billion out the door to eight large institutions," said Paulson. "In Washington that is a land-speed record from announcing a program to getting funds out the door. We now have approved dozens of additional applications, and investments are being made in approved institutions." When we’ll get a list of those dozens of additional applicants which will be getting a piece of the $125 billion in remaining taxpayer case remains to be seen. The original CPP participants were told about the program at a closed-door meeting at Treasury and no minutes have been released on what was said during the meeting. So, is this the biggest bait and switch in American history? There will certainly be critics who say that Paulson and the Bush Administration were disingenuous when they were selling Congress and the American public on the program back in September. And they’d probably be right. Paulson said today, he knew when the bill was signed the purchase of trouble assets wasn’t the right solution to the problem. But history will judge Hank & Co. on the effectiveness of their response. If the risks to the financial system remain low, the future doesn’t bring bigger bank and financial institution failures, and the recession doesn’t get too deep or last too long, then the quick pivot on this plan will probably go unnoticed.

Bush in September: It’s a crisis! Urgent! Urgent! I need $700 billion immediately or the economy will collapse tomorrow.
Bush now: Thanks for the cash. Hmmm. Hey Vice (Cheney), what should we do with it?

@hopesprings52,
It is so funny how dumb Bush/Cheney is, but YET, the Democrats jumped right on the bandwagon and road along!
For people to talk about Bush and his Policies, the Democrats HELPED to pass them! :)
Now, who is the most stupid? The ones leading or the ones following?

Basically, if anyone had of read the BAIL-OUT plan that the Senate passed and the House passed after them, you would have seen(if you could read over all the PORK), that they basically could change plans and DO WHATEVER they wanted with the MONEY. And YES, these plans were PLANs led by THE DEMOCRATIC LeaderShip!
Can you all spell S. C. R. E. W. E. D. ?

Both parties are stealing money from your family to pay their corporate cronies. If your are so partisan you can’t see this, then YOU deserve to get took. Barney Frank imploded Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, last I checked he was a Democrat! BOTH parties are ROBBING you BLIND! And yet you continue to reelect them… Frightening! Truly frightening! What the HELL do you expect when you hire a wolf to guard the henhouse? WHAT? Tell me… No wait, tell your kids who wil be paying for it after your dead!

Maybe Congressman William Jefferson of the Homeland Security will apply for $90,000.00 in unmarked bills for his freezer. Actually Chris Dodd could probably get a VIP loan as well.

@jhw539,
I HAVE NO problem with the TRUTH! Republicans and Democrats alike are responsible for this Crap. My comment was to the one of the finger pointing at the Republicans, when the Democrats had well enough in the last 8 years to FILIBUSTER anything the President or the Republicans tryed to pass. DID they stop them? No, they climbed on board.

Richard Fuld and croanies should be in jail. The banks made loans to people who did not qualify. There were plenty of criminal activities such as forging signatures, document fabrications, etc. A landscaper buys a $500k house and months later it’s foreclosed. When we make bad decisions, we have to deal with the consequence. The banks did criminal things and we have to bail them out? WTH?

Posted by: mark | November 12, 2008, 2:26 pm 2:26 pm

@mark,
You are correct.. there were a lot of Criminal Activities, but Ultimately the “landscaper” KNEW damned well he could not afford a house like that.
There were also a lot of loans handed out to Families under the “everyone should own a home plan” that we knew damned well could not paid back.

Let’s not forget Reid & Pelosi telling everyone they wrote the bill and Republicans have to vote “yes” too. The sky is falling. If Republicans didn’t vote “yes” it would be their fault if the sky fell.
What a joke all these leaders are. We have all been scammed by these people to bailout their friends.

With each passing day this is getting uglier and uglier. They don’t want us to know which banks are getting the money and the stock market isn’t fooled and keeps tumbling.
Now Pelosi & Reid want to bail out the aauto industry. Where does it end?
Can we trust any of our leaders?

If they felt they needed to say and do something quick, before any intelligent assessment could be made, then, well, they did. But how stupid could anyone be to suggest that they have to spend 700 BILLION dollars in a senseless way just because they didn’t think of the good way until later?

How many of the clowns in Congress and Senate were RE-ELECTED last week?? Shame on all of us. We had the chance to vote out all imcumbents who are part of the Congress/Senate that has an approval rating of 11%. Not only did we reelect most of them, but we elected two of them as President and Vice-President.
Get involved. Contact your lawmakers and give them a piece of your mind. Remember…we lend them OUR power and voice. Let’s be sure to remind them.

Watched a segment on one of the news stations in which the Mayor of Philidelphia wants some this bailout money for his city. Because he claims if the Gov’t will bailout the insurance, financial anda uto industries that they should bail him out.
So now the mess begins everybody wants a piece of the pie (tax payers earnings), why doesn’t the media investigate the real causes of this Crisis? Oh maybe because it points back to Frank, Dodd and even Obama.

Posted by: Tobias2012 | November 12, 2008, 6:07 pm 6:07 pm

How much is enough? And I want to know WHY Obama is doing something? I know, I know, he is not president until January 21, 2009, but he has GOT to get in there.
He will INHERIT this big ol’ bowl of crap. Right now, in the press conferences, he seems to be out of his league without a teleprompter.
Heck, last friday, all he could do was make some assine comments regarding Nancy Reagan.
Hey Obama! Get out of campaign mode! You may not be president yet, but you still are the darlings of the MSM! Make your comments known!

No way!!!
Why should the tax payers bailed out the weak businesses. If the Big 3 Autos fail, consumers will buy from Toyota, Honda and Nissan …. who also manufacture cars in the US with American workers (just not around labor union dominated Detroit).
Where do we stop? Do we bailed out Sharper Image? Mervin’s? Linen n’ Things? Possibly subsidize slower sales at Starbucks and Sears?
I paid 20% down for my house and secured fixed 30 year interest payments. Why should I help bailed out those who paid next to zero down, low initial interest rates with ramp ups after five year, took out and spent their second mortgages when home prices increased? Did they share their wind-fall profit with me?

Credit Default Swap Scam 101.
Players: Insurance Company, Buyers of insurance, Some Event, Taxpayers
Buyers pay $10 billion and gets $100 billion from Insurance Company if Some Event Happens. Event happens. Insurance Company goes bust. Buyer of lucrative insurance contract wants to get paid. Cries to DC. DC buys these contracts. THERE IS NO ASSET. THERE IS ONLY PAYING THE INSURANCE CONTRACT. The taxpayer gets NOTHING and pays to rich Insurance holder. The original $10 billion premium already paid the insurance companies CEO salary and lavish lifestyle.
That is the SCAM.
Same as betting in Vegas. Pay $25. In case something happens you either get nothing or get say $100. This “contract” is otherwise known as a “bet.”

Pelosi & Reid were the ones trying to bully everyone into signing this stupid bill in the first place. Sure Bush went on TV talking crisis but he didn’t write the bill, hell all he did was do exactly what he was told to do. Just like he’s done from the first day he was elected. I’m sure everyone will want to blame this on Bush but anyone in their right mind knows this is Pelosi, Reid, and Paulson’s baby not Bush’s. I doubt Bush can write a personal check much less a complicated economic Bill. Give me a break, start placing blame where it should be not on the easiest target. Thats what got us in this mess to begin with. Blame the people who deserve it and get them out of office as quickly as possible. Bush is gone, now its Pelosi and Reid’s turn to be shown the door.

The single most powerful downdraft in stocks in our lifetime…yes, and this announcement from Mr. Paulson may be the signal that we are finally near a bottom to this fast dive! Treasury Sec. H. Paulson should be given the benefit of the doubt, at this particular time, with respect to the plans for those 700 billion dollars that were appropriated for the Troubled Asset Recovery Program.
DOOM and GLOOM are front page —everywhere!
When Pres. Roosevelt had his heart attack in the Whitehouse it precipitated DOOM and GLOOM headlines, the assassination of JFK, ditto, and the attacks upon the WTC all brought DOOM and GLOOM to the mastheads of papers worldwide and all share one thing in common— a bottom to the stock markets plunge wa sjust arround the corner from these catastrophic events. So, let’s hope and and yes, let’s all pray that this is the darkness before the sun rise!

It now adds up to about $5 Trillion in obligations for Uncle Sam. There is going to be only one way out of this for the government. PRINT MONEY.
The government can retire or service debt in two ways. Borrow by selling bonds and notes or print money.
The downside of printing large amounts of currency is hyper-inflation. Since printing money will be the only way out of this and the additonal spending Obama and the Democratic Congress will do. We should be seeing hyper-inflation kick in in about 2 to 3 years along with interest rates going through the roof.

Maxine Waters was very clear that she wanted to “nationalize” the oil industry. Guess the Democrats who wrote the bail out package, just decided to take over another industry (the banking industry) first.
And for all you dimwits who want to blame Bush for the mortgage industry, here is a tip; go to your bank and have them explain Community Reinvestment Act regulations to you and when they had to start adhering to them.

Raise your hand if you’re really surprised by this. If you raise your hand I really have to wonder about you. One thing that must be pointed out is that, for the most part, there are no real differences between the parties. Their job is to promote themselves and establish a ruling political class. Their only goal is to get re-elected and to Hell with the electorate.
People, your country is being stolen from you right under your noses and you’re following right along. It’s not about ideology at all, it’s about MONEY!!!!! Folks, it is simple. DC is going to continue to get drunk with money because of the red regime IRS. But, it is a simple solution: Do not pay your federal taxes. Maybe if enough of us did that (oh, let’s see, a couple of million of us should do it), take 20 million taxpayers, rought about $5,000 each, and that would take away about what, 100 billion dollars away from the DC crooks. If we keep it up, and then protest by just stopping 3 million cars in the Beltway area and have a huge block party, MAYBE then the DC idiots will get a clue. Sound like a pipe dream? The beginning of the financial crisis was caused by Senator Chris Dodd, and Congressman Barney Frank of Massachusetts 4th district, who are both Democrats. They both pushed for more minority and low income housing loans, even though they new that the borrowers could not repay the loans. Now both parties are given our money to greedy companies who bought these risky loans, knowing that the loans were unsafe. Both parties are at vault. Americans don’t have the ####s to stand-up to any politician Dem or Rep and say enough is enough and we’re not paying for the CEOs to continue to have their fortunes while we pay for it. That is what makes this country SICK, TWISTED & EVIL. Stop the finger pointing and name calling and face it…we the citizens are SUCKERS.

Will you just STOP!!! Bickering and witch-hunting to assign blame to one party or the other won’t solve ANYTHING! The point is: Are we capitalists or are we socialists? Now we ALL have proof of the slippery slope that is created by the government buying into pieces of the private sector…who’s gonna say when there are too many pigs at the trough? If we don’t have the ####s to stand up and say NOOOOOO! We deserve the consequences of being sheep.

Off topic, but important: I’m just glad none of the bailout funding is tied to people’s ability to use proper grammar and spell correctly! The way people write today is unbelievable! Years ago I commited larceny. I was convicted and was fined and jailed for it. I paid back what I took. So let me ask this simple question: Why aren’t these crooks being fast tracked through court, fined, jailed, and having their mass amounts of cash and assets seized and given back to the people they took it from?
It’s common sense you don’t buy something with credit when you know you can;t pay for it later. I torch every credit card offer I get each weekend when I have a nice little bonfire. Steak tastes better when you have the flavor burned credit card offers coats it like BBQ sauce.
A final thought: Granted the demoRATS thought this terrible bail out plan up (and helped bring this mess upon us). And yes the republiclowns did vote for it. People need to use their heads. Common sense rules the day.

Also, maybe it’s time to tell the BIG 3 and anyother dinasaur companies times are changing and you can’t compete with the foreign automakers. Either you adapt & overcome, or you fail. Too me, a family history of automakers…it’s dead in this country. India makes a care now that costs $2,500 and is affordable, even to the poverty stricken. 1 model, 3 or 4 colors, same price with AC…wow! Pretty said when a 3rd world country’s economy is BOOMING big time and we, the great USA are sinking fast. Never thought I’d see it in my day. Face it, we all got bamboozled. I don’t care who is in office. There’s no way in hell that the next 4, 8, 12 years are going to be happy, productive years for this country. I expect unemployment to hit 11%. Shy of the 1930-33 era. It is going to take something great to get this country’s economics reversed and back to booming. again. It sucks. Yeah, gas is cheap, but what good does it do for those with no job to drive to?

Look … the truth hurts …
The country was doing well until the celebrated takeover of Congress in 2006 by Pelosi, Reid, Barney Frank & Company. 4.4% unemployment and a steady economy until the pessimists took over. Period … those are the FACTS.
CONGRESS MAKES THE LAWS … NOT the president. Can you malcontents get that through your thick skulls and stop blaming Bush for everything? How come no one says, “Gee, isn’t it great how Bush brought gas prices down?” Why, cause so many of you revel in the muck and misery that is your life!
TRY THIS ON FOR SIZE IF YOU WANT TO SEE WHAT DEEP doo doo America is in now that you have Obama.
Russia’s Putin/Medvedev duo and Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez are getting too cozy. In the coming months, Cuba’s President Raul Castro is off to Moscow for ‘visits.’ Pres. Bush is adamant about placing a missile defense system in Poland.
NOW READ BETWEEN THE LINES: Can Obama’s ‘charm’ can get him off the hook when Russia decides to set up missile bases again in this hemisphere with help from our ‘neighbors to the south? Does America have a well-placed counter spy like Col. Oleg Vladimirovich Penkovsky (As in JFK’s time) in place to help us? Watch closely as this one unfolds.

With all the outrage on this thread, I have yet to see anyone actually critically examine this change in direction. Are we, the taxpayers, really worse off if we’re given a stake in these banks?
The original plan calls for us (the taxpayers) to buy up worthless financial products that will never pay us back. With a stake in these banks, we can recover some taxpayer money AND have some say in how these banks are run. The original plan hands over money with NO punishment to the people who made these decisions.
The truth is that the vast majority of economists, both liberal and conservative, support this NEW program because it a) is more fair to the American people b/c it allows us to recover some of this money; b) actually punishes those people who made these bad decisions by curtailing their control over these banks.
Do you really think we’d be better off simply handing $700 billion to the people who got us into this mess? Which is the better deal?

If all you leftist Democrat Obamaniacs would get honest with yourselves for one minute, You might admit that things began to get really crappy just after the Dems took over Congress in 2006. Of course, the real damage was started back in LBJ’s days ( Great Welfare Society). Then the passing of the CRA during Jimmy Carter’s administration and the non-legislative actions of intimidation of lenders during the Clinton administration certainly caused today’s financial meltdown. It has all been a massive vote buying scheme to create a large govt with lots of dependents who are obligated to vote for Democrats. When Republicans like McCain and President Bush tried to reign in Fannie and Freddie Dems (like purple Barney Knob Frank) cried out, “Nothing wrong here!”
Today the media still shill for Obama and Dems still try to socialize America. I can only “hope” and pray that there are enough honest Americans left to throw these Marxist bums out, one way or another.
God Bless America. She needs it now more than ever.

This is precisely what happens when the regulatory state goes out of control. The socialists in Congress required banks to accept “sub-prime” loans that everyone knew were worthless. This wouldn’t have happened without that political pressure.
And, when it hit the fan as everyone knew it would, the socialists in Congress, instead of accepting the blame, pointed fingers at the businessmen who followed their regulations cried “greed,” demanded even more regulation, and acceded to the idiotic and counterproductive bailout programs proposed by Paulson.
Now we are being swept into bailing out anyone who has any debt, at the expense of the next several generations of American wage-earners.
That’s socialism in action. It didn’t work in the USSR, and it won’t work here.

Frank, Dodd and the Democrats allowed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to hand out Affirmative Action Mortgages like candy on Halloween.
Dodd and Frank belong in jail along with Raines, Gorelick and Johnson. They apparently used Fannie and Freddie for their personal campaign cash and kickback machine risky scheme.
What did Obama’s new Chief of Staff abscond with from Fannie Mae? Don’t expect the media to ask.
This problem was caused by Democrats, because if there was a Republican involved, Torquemada Waxman would’ve had their rear end hauled up in front of one of his moronic hearings, and the press would be shouting it from the mountaintops, every day.

This bill was a blank check from the moment it was signed, a fact about which Paulson was explicit. Characterizing it as a “bait-and-switch” now that the details are filled in, is highly disingenuous.
The bill was also amended (and subsequently re-written) by Congress, so attributing the blame on Bush is not only a tired old canard, but an inaccurate and lazy cop-out.
Nota bene: It’s unlikely that killing journalistic standards and calling something a “blog” will usher in a renaissance for traditional media like ABC.

Blame Bush et al. all you want, but the bailout legislation is the house Barney “Fannie Mae” Frank built, with Nancy “AIG” Pelosi and Chris “I Didn’t Know I Got a Preferential Mortgage Rate” Dodd beaming right alongside, allegedly giving the nod to Obama to do the talking for them when they met with Bush, Paulson and McCain.
I always thought the bailout was a good idea – until I found out the legislation had been written without requiring banks to actually lend the money. One might have expected Sarah Palin or Joe the Plumber to have made such a stupid mistake – but what excuse is there for Frank, Pelosi, Dodd, and Obama?
It’s unknown whether Soviet-style nationalization of the country’s banking and automobile industries was the intended result all along – or whether they’re all just that stupid.

Pointing fingers and getting upset is useless. What is happening is a natural economic cycle that is 60 years long. We had the Great Depression in the 1930s. Another depression was due in the 1990s, but it was postponed by creating the easy money bubble. The problem with inflating our way out of the 60 year cycle correction is that the inevitable economic slowdown is deeper and more painful. There is no way around it.
We are facing very difficult times ahead, and only time will get us out of it. The only thing that the government should be doing is helping those who are hurt the most and cannot survive on their own as a result of the economic impact. With time, the economy will hit bottom and start a new cycle. The well run companies will survive, but the ones which are mismanaged won’t. It’s how natural economic cycles work.
Besides the government assisting those with greatest need, we all need to help one another. We are all in this together and only through cooperation can we make it through this unfortunate and inevitable crisis.

I love how this story just blames paulson and bush. When will the media admit these guys are not conservative republicans. Paulson is just out to get rich and help is bros on Wall Street and Bush is a puppet. And so we are clear the Democratic congress passed the law along with 150 billion in earmarks. way to go Pelosi and gang!!! Way to back america

Ok….it’s Bush’s fault…but, it was Franklin Reins (sp) and Barney Frank and if I am not mistaken…..it was the Repubs. that voted against it first and it went back to the drawing board where the DEMS loaded it up with more pork…..like, a $2 million dollar tax break for a company that makes wooden arrows for kids toys.

The original bill was 3 pages long, after Congress got involved it was over 700 pages log. Congress wrote it and passed it. How many of them read the whole thing?

Remember a massive amount of people vote for the ones the media tells them to vote for! So why is everything in such a mess, because the ones the media supports are in power! Bush was stupid enough to bail them out, now his name (Republican Bush) will be forever attatched to it, as it should be. Constitutional law has been trampled, if the true American people don’t wake up soon this country will belong to “The Power to be”, not the people! The mighty manipulatory social media, have used propaganda tactics to hide major truth about some, while trouncing others for trivial things, that may or not be illegal. Once they get through with their target/enemy anyone that is not aware of their tactics will believe that some kind of crime had been committed!!! The media is in this just as deep as the thieves that stole Americas treasures, the most valuable ones being, freedom and liberty which gives them the wealth!

this is all about CONSOLIDATION. Consolidation of the banking industry and then onward to other industries, corporations, etc. It is also about INTERNATIONALISM. This orchestrated, at worst, or ineptitude -at best-, depression will cause borders to be eliminated, regulations to be internationalized, and sovereignity to be eliminated. Just as the banks played the game in 3rd world countries they will force “austerity” measures and control on us now….total global banker control is the goal.

You know the Soviet Union started out by nationalizing all industry. Those who had money could opt to run one for the motherland or be fined. I think this bailout had no intentions of saving America, it’s the politicians that are looking out for themselves. Follow the money, it’s all part of the plan. We’re entering a global depression and the only countries that survive have a strong military and natural resources. Lock and load people.

Remember when Hank Paulson got down on one knee to Pelosi and Reid? He was begging for them to bail out his pension from Goldman Sachs! They bent over and grabbed their ankles and let him have his way with ALL OF US! Now he has $1 Trillion to do whatever he deems fit. Don’t kid yourselves, it’s not $700 Billion or $850 Billion, before this is all over it may escalate into several Trillion. Our government keeps printing money and we’ll go into hyper inflation, and pretty soon China will be asking for their money back and by this time next year all the hedge funds will have tanked and we truly will be in a Depression. We’ll all be living in cardboard communities.

And now the Dems are looking into seizing everyones 401k and IRA probably so they can give the money to the unionized corporation like the auto industry. And people blame Bush. One wonders. And people not paying your taxes is really a bad idea the IRS will just seize your bank accounts, garnish your wages, and lien your property they are pros at doing this. And the bailout is BS it was to get banks to start loaning money again-guess what they apparently are not doing that so giving them more money isn’t the solution whether it is buying preferred stock, loaning at 1% or buying their bad loans. And the stock market is nothing but a Wall Street scam with short selling and whatever other games they play to profit-while all the small investors lose everything.

I emailed Nancy, the witch, Pelosi too but she never returns my emails either.
Don’t despair because I have an answer to our problem with both parties…..We can hire an attorney and file a class action suit against them all. We can seize all their assets just like Ken Lay at Enron and use all that money instead of ours. Imagine the money that would flow into the economy from Clinton, Dodd, Frank, Waters,Raines, Cox etc, etc, etc,
Now that would be a bail out.

What do you expect from a legislative system that permits:
Speechmaking to an empty House so you can still get your speech in the Congressional Record.
Permitting amendments to be made that have no relation to the main bill so that no one reads them and/or permits you to tout your support although you voted no because of the amendment.

Three Words – One World Govt

Posted by: foodstampz | November 12, 2008, 8:43 pm 8:43 pm

The BOMB (Bush OBAMA McCain Bailout) was corrupt from the start. Written by big money, for big money, by big money. And, EVERY time the government sticks their fingers into something this important they ALWAYS screw it up. This BOMB was full of loopholes from the start. That wasn’t accidental – it was intentional. I can’t afford much more of this change!

Posted by: Bill Catz | November 12, 2008, 8:44 pm 8:44 pm

It’s not unusual for the big media, i.e. “ABC” (no obvious byline to this story?) to soon forget recent history…even if in perhaps record speed for such…seemingly in this case. So I shall attempt to document here. The first “bailout” bill was rejected. And who was blamed? The Republicans in the House…seemingly and unfortunately (the big media in its predictable assessment before an election?), the expected story line when rooting for “change”. And even as the minority party! But then, enough of those folks of such persuasion were swayed into urgency, bought in, the bill passed, and magically the bill became “bipartisan”…the ending result being the opposition party (unfairly, in my perhaps not so humble opinion) can still be blamed someone else at some level, so if it (the bailout) doesn’t work…blame Bush! The result…same stuff – different day…nothing resolved…where does that get us? Where’s the leadership from the folks are who have been “passed the torch?”
The bottom line – the Republican administration was not the “used-car-salesman” here (no offense to my friends in such business). They were unarguably complicit, but certainly we have reached a point whereby the opposition party must begin to assume some level of responsibility…in reality, they have been in control for at least the past few days (if now years, at least since 2006 with the majority in Congress, and now with a lame-duck Executive branch and newly elected President), and certainly for at least the next two years. It’s time for the other party to begin to accept the responsibility…they are now most certainly in control of.
Harry Truman said “the buck stops here”. At this time, now as much as ever, the new leadership needs to take this approach. Regardless of party, it seems to be more important than in any time in recent history.

The only conclusion that can be drawn from all of this is, a major move to take America from the people! Why else would news (valuable information) be censured and discredited! Television is a “Bully pulpet” for information, it reaches even the “Could care less crowd”, that is where their wealth of indocrinated followers are. I used to be one, I rushed home from work at 5:00 to catch the evening news, even channel surfed it so I could be well informed! Little did I know, I couldn’t be, not from those few sources, they all agreed with each other, ran the same stories and came to the same conclussion after analyzing it. One sided information is indoctrination!!!!!! They side with the theives and Constitutional criminals!!!

It is remarkable that Bush, a conservative Republican, appointed Paulson, a Democrat from Goldman Sachs with far left views on the environment, to be Treasury Secretary. Very few people realize that. One could theorize that in order to stop global warming that Paulson concocted a phony crisis that would accomplish two things: the wrecking of the global economy to stop climate change, and the wrecking of Goldman Sachs’ rival on Wall St. IT WORKED! We are on the eve of Depression, and there is NO Wall St. It’s gone! All that remains is Goldman Sachs. What a coiiiiincidence!

Got news for y’all. Ain’t nothing the government can do about it. We’re gonna pay for all that affordable housing now and it’s gonna hurt. The market knows BO’s policies are not going to help and that’s why it’s tanking even farther. Yeah I know, BO is going to help the little guy…whatever, the little guy ain’t the market or in the market or part of the market and the big-guys in the market are the ones that will get hit (tax), again, by all the help (spend) for the little guy. In the end, a whole lot of the big-market will be lost and we will be starting over.
We’ll hit bottom in a year or two and level out. The recovery won’t kick in for 4-6 more years. And it doesn’t matter who is president. The government can only make it worse. And since China appears more capitalistic and nationalistic now than the US, they may emerge as the financial superpower.
With the work ethic today. This is going to be a really painful experience. And judging from the actions of our leaders, our form of government may be further converted to socialist policies that just plain do not work. No incentive for anyone to work or better themselves because betterment is punished. Everyone just survives in a perpetual rut.

The majority of the posts should be offering comforting words that all will set straight once the man with the plan takes the oath of office. Where did all that optimism disappear to so suddenly? If you voted for Obama and believe with all your heart that his plan is workable….why are you complaining? All will be set right shortly after inauguration, right?

You are the idiots that talk about idiotic social issues, while not even considering the candidate’s aptitude or ability to be a leader, or whether they have principles or not. So, unless an examination is instituted nationwide that tests one’s knowledge of both government and perhaps intelligence, where those who fail are not allowed to vote, or as long as YOU continue to approach your responsibility to vote as you have in the past, without educating yourselves prior to exercising this responsibility, THIS KIND OF CRAP WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN!

It’s called socialism and as I repeated over and over ad nauseum before the election, it’s the playbook Obama & Co. are going by: take the economy to the verge of total failure, then start promising “Hope” & “Change”…just wait til you see the other surprises the so-called Democrats have up their sleeves for us now that they will have complete control (Franken’s stealing the Senate seat in MN) of all branches of government. The party was hijacked, there are few if any non-socialist democrats left in congress or most other leadership positions. Now, they will run rampant through our most precious rights and traditions over the next few years and we’ll be lucky if we can even recognize the USA after they’re done. Saul Alinsky would be proud.

Now with that being said, We need to stand up and tell the F-B-’s that the only way they are going to get any more of my tax money is if they come and get it themselves!” My hand will not be dead when they show up.
I am sorry to have to be the one to tell all of you this, but it is the only way things will change. Flat out civil intervention of our sitting congress and senate. They all need to be replaced ASAP. We the People can and must do this before we lose our beloved country forever. There has been more than a drop of blood shed for this country by brave men and women. If the blood shed was for good or bad, right or wrong, we as soldiers and protectors of this great land did not know if the reasons for war were true or false but we trusted the ones who were voted in to power and we trusted them. I hope that they did not lie.
All that needs to be done is for one brave soul to stand up and speak and to keep speaking until they are joined by 350 million other Americans.
If you want Real Change and not more of the same and higher taxes, even you rich people, I am sure you worked for your money, or at least someone did and it is yours, then we must come together as a people and take back our country and REPLACE OUR GOVERNMENT! The thing is, anything like that must be done BEFORE the democrats have complete control (while we still have a constitution) and very carefully, as there are many, many “FEMA camps” where any insurgents (read: “patriots”) can easily be warehoused. The people must be very aware and ready before anyone starts that ball rolling.

First the deceleration of the almighty dollar then the economy as a whole going down the tubes, then talk about the Amero becoming the currency of the The North American union us/mex/canada.Wars and rumors of wars get your ducks in a row people Obama cant take care of His own family he surely does not care about you.Prepare for your family.Get back to the things most of us were raised on Family, Moral/values GOD/JESUS and anything else that made life seem more simple. to me it seems things are starting to spiral faster out of control there is going to be a huge diff between the haves and have nots. I can see you guys going back and forth, but most of you get it. the average shopping clerk or dental hygeneist does not. They wanted change and they will get it ten-fold.
I personally love Bush for trying 12 times to avert this disaster, but I fault him for so much pork spending.
I personally think he was the best of two evils… um… three very evils. I think our best days are behind us, like from when in 2006 the dems won congress.

The president is the commander in chief. He is not a salesman that sells crappy chevy cars or 21 mpg dodge neons. MOST of the current job crisis is derived from the unions. Many, many, many people now making 35,000 a year would GLADLY take these jobs that GM pays 70K. Unions have brought this country to ruins!

The bailout was a BAD idea on so many levels, as I told my Senator Sununu (voted out) and Congressman Hodes (still there unfortuatley).
I am afraid it will take 4 years of Comrade Obama for America to wake up and smell the coffee of liberty again and vote the Socialist/Commie bums out.

Powerful people have many puppets orchestrating their rise to power!!! Once power is achieved the puppets are cast down with the rest of the oppressed! The best defense against this is to enlighten as many as possible! Once people see/hear truth, they recognize it, even though they may deny it at first! It still remains as something they have to deny in their head/thoughts long after you are gone. If they dwell on it long enough and it starts being proven to them in their awareness/activities of everyday life, they will accept it, they same as they accept the lies and distortion blasted at them now, on a daily basis!

What color are you? I’m Red White and Blue blood American!!!! They use race to try to divide us because “United we stand” is a true phrase. Division weakens the opponent, they are quite good at using that tactic! Don’t take my word for that though, look around you and you decide! Common people work around all colors and nationalities on a daily basis and get along quite well together! Yet we go home and listen to the propaganda machine and think we are unique because we get along so well with the diversity in our everyday lives. There is a reason they try to divide US. Their studies show, that is a good way to weaken us, the USA.

I have a bad feeling about all of this. Is there something more sinister taking place than what we realize. This two party system has is more of an elitist club with a hidden agenda than anythinge else. I thought the only thing we had to fear was fear itself. We were recently told that we should be afraid and that everything was going to collapse if we didnt give 750b to the paulson gang. Talk about fear mongering.
Ben Franklin said “Those who would take away a little liberty to gain a little security deserve neither”.
The government no longer represents the people. It is no longer our servant anymore. We are now its servants and too often we have bent over backwards to meet its demands. I fear our country will be bankrupt before long.

None of the comments I read will attempt to point out where does the government is BOROWING the money from. The banks are broke, Uncle Sam is broke, we (the gullible) people are broke, yet there are out there a bunch of financial Einsteins willing to lend to Uncle Sam which in turn promises that WE (the gullible) THE PEOPLE will pay back with interest mind you, for the next generations. Try Google the origins of the Federal Reserve. Would help you post more informed and intelligent comments.

Its a despot already,
You American people decide for yourselves, I feel that the government is past the point of despotism, therefore you have certain rights which you may have to sacrifice to enforce if you agree.
These aren’t inflammatory words, you see for yourselves that it is out of control now, and you either act accordingly or not if you dont agree.
They ignored the law as usual about the wall that we build to keep the barbarians out of Rome, Tancreado tried it and even had the funding and it passed but then Bush, that great conservative and McCain another genius refused to implement it on purpose and even removed funding from it ( probably the only funding in US history that ever had anything removed )
They will not listen at all to the will of the people, Coleman in MN is a prime example, I wrote him during the immigration thing and his response was that he wouldnt support it unless it had his no sanctuary city ammendment on it, meaning he supported it if it had some meaningless ammendment to it, so if all the illegals were now legal why would they need a sanctuary city???? No wonder a creepy pervert from hollywood has a chance to win here against Coleman, I dont worry about that race either way its a sell out.

1. The banks say they have a problem.
2. Politicians get scared.
3. Federal Reserve “forces” JP Morgan to buy Bear Stearns
4. Other banks jump on the band wagon and start calling in favors from OUR politicians.
5. Our politicians push a crazy plan through over the weekend, which borrows money from the Federal Reserve, in which taxpayers will be required pay back to the Fed with interest.
The unbelievable part – The Federal Reserve is not part of the federal government – it is a group of private bankers that sit on the board.
The US citizens are giving their banks a lifeline then being charged interest by the Fed for doing so – Heads we win, tales you lose.

Someone said,”Until we elect people who are neither Republican or Democrat…” which is exactly what has happened. The whole of government in Washington is or soon will be Socialist majority. Neither Democrat or Republican. SOCIALIST, like Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Frank, et al, with appointed leftist judges everywhere legislating from the bench and our Constitution torn to shreds, along with our rights. We will all be serfs, slaves to the Bourgeosie, who sit in power and hide their own money overseas or in a private safe. America did this to itself by becoming complacent, not voting with their brain but on who looked better, had better rhetoric, etc. No one looks at a political “leader,” and says is this a person I would want around my children? Is this a person in whose hands I would place my life? Is this person like me? (Palin was and is but you ridiculed her) Why do you think we have to have some elitist snob to “rule”? OF THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE, and BY THE PEOPLE. Why have we let this concept go? It was the whole idea of America and was beautiful, warts and all.

Everything is cyclical every powerful nation that rises up falls or is destroyed, look throughout history this has happend.Babylon/Iraq was once the most feared Kingdom on earth and now its just starting to get its legs again I believe Iraq will be the monster of the mid east with the rebuilding/oil/reserves within the next couple of years. The Bible says these things must happen and I know some here agree with me and sorry if I turn this into Bible hx lesson ,but the times are fitting. The transfer of wealth from the West to the East is insane over the last few years. Now that The Rev Jesse Jackson has called for us to not be such a staunch supporter of Isreal and probably alot of others feel the same way. It does not suprise me that the USA today seems less like the USA that I grew up in.” Prophecy is the future told in the past” so it seems to me the less supportive we are to the things GOD wants us to be supportive of the less moral and accepting of things our parents would have never stood for or that we would ever want our own kids to see or do the worse things get PERIOD.

Brock,
This is why I turned my tv off in 1980′s, that seems to me to be the “image of the beast” I said seems to be…It has turned out to be a poweful corruptor in this country when you consider that men and women were not shown sleeping together on tv until the 70′s (archie bunker) which is when it really went south for tv, and and left wing shows like MASH in the 70′s used “damn” and “hell” and were considered controversial then, see how far we have fallen for moral standards? and this president wonders why he has a low approval? He never did one thing to address this moral decay after he tricked the dumbies in the so called “Evangelical” church into voting for him, much like Carter pretended to be an evangelical and they dumbly voted for him. The low approval is the missing 25% who he did nothing for on a moral basis, just the usual “well I cant overturn Roe V Wade” Now these same people have Huckabee lying to them for the next election, the guy is a total fraud, the only thing he has in common with anything conservative is he says hes prolife, thats it everything else is liberal green left wing dem, and if you do turn on a tv once in a blue moon (which I do) and watch him, he’s obviously an evil man.

Maybe we need to keep looking for the new president, TD, you sounded good for a while there. Eagle, what say you? You up for it? Seriously, though, I wonder if this country has the guts to do anything other than gripe. The voting record shows it does not. There are still some real Conservatives out there and I hope one will rise up to lead us. I tried to urge our Governor to do that, Mark Sanford of SC. Jim DeMint is another, the useful (as opposed to worthless) senator here in SC, and Broun of GA seems to get it too. And don’t forget Sarah. Of course, this is assuming that a)we get through the next four years without all hell breaking loose, or b)someone takes matters into their own hands, the government once again BELONGS to the people and we are able to install someone with the right values. We need a CONSTITUTIONALIST before all is lost.

We are a doomed nation thanks to politicians. We need patriots who are willing to lay down their lives to lead this country. I know of one that is that, John McCain.
In about 6 months can we re-vote??
It does not matter now. Get ready for the great gathering, HE is coming soon!

Remington was very happy with the way I put my stimulus check to work, maybe helped a little to revitalize the economy, maybe even a Republic.
Although, that stimulus check was sent about 6 months ago (wait, you think they may have known this whole banking meltdown was coming! — Our representatives couldn’t be that deceitful, could they? )

First the private banks threaten to take our money and even under the Freedom of Information Act we still are not allowed to read all the official documents in the bailout, Obama tells his plans of a mandatory civilian defense/work force on change.gov which is quietly reworded. I believe that the government is betting on a bunch of reality TV watching, sodium fluoride drinking wastrels not caring about this heist beyond all heists and the subversion of the sovereignty of our country.
We can not let what is left of our country to be bought up by the Chinese/Middle East.
God help us.

We deserve it. Here in TX, they voted John Cornyn back into office even though he voted for bailout, along with both prez candidates.
Bush is a loser. He’s a big government autocrat, even more than his dad. He reneged on just about every “principle” he ran on during his campaigning.
The USA is surely going down after colossal fiasco, not even the lack
It’s all driven by lobbyist! Even though people were jamming their rep’s phone lines against it 50:1, they still voted for it. The lobbyists always win. What fools!

If McCain had voted NO on the Bailout bill he would probably be President-Elect right now. Most of the House Republicans that voted NO on the Bailout were re-elected. I know mine was. Here is Georgia, Saxby Chambliss is in trouble and in a run-off with a goofball. He voted for the bailout and was one of the Gang of 10 that were willing to compromise on the drilling proposal. He’ll probably win however there would not have been a run-off if he had voted NO on the bailout. Screw Detroit, the Big 3 are in trouble because of these Union contracts and pensions that they have to pay. Thank God I live in a Right to Work state. Unions have done no one any good lately and now they think they are owed since Obama has been elected. The only way they can attain power is by making sure they know who voted for or against organizing so they can cut someones legs off at the knees. Why do you think the foreign auto makers have plant in Right to work states like Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama?

I’m sorry, but this generation today is nothing like the generation that were alive during the great depression. My Grandfather did not expect anything from anyone, to me he was a Saint and the majority of the people that were of His generation were very good people.
Today, the majority want a handout from our Government (even our “respectable” CEOs want a handout; worst of all, none have pride in taking it.
Unfortunately, me thinks things are going to get really bad, really fast. We all can’t sit around and take handouts. And the pigs gotta eat.

Overnight solution to economic crisis from a truck driver….
1. Adopt a 10% flat tax immediately for all Corporations, Businesses, and private citizens.
2. Abolish the Federal Excise Tax
3. Abolish the Capital Gains Tax
4. Abolish free services to illegal aliens, unless life threatening.
5. Reduce Congressional pay by the percentage the federal budget goes over budget.
These four things would cause our economy to explode overnight. California alone had a 11 billion dollar deficit this year. We spent that exact amount on illegal alien services…..just step 4 alone would eliminate California’s annual deficit.
The steps this country is taking to solve the economic crisis will do nothing but prolong the crisis and pass it on to generations of Americans, and it will threaten our national security.
simple capitalism, not socialism.

Eagle, you remind me of a guy I know but I always wonder if people like you are for real. Lately, I’m finding out more and more who’s who and what ordinary people are hoping they’re made of. There’s a tension in the air and I hope people are being vigilant and preparing, although it’s hard when you have no money to do what you know you need to be doing to be prepared. While I get nervous posting sometimes, I am surprised but glad to see these comments on ol’ lefty ABC’s message board, it’s salve after some of what I’ve read on these before the election. Too bad THAT turned out the way it did. Anyway, we will need people like Eagle if this goes the way it’s looking. Please be careful, everyone! We don’t know about this “Civilian Security Force,” may be your neighbor? Will you know in time? Is it already happening?

I have read every comment on this page and I am a little confused.
I am a veteran and I served my country too. 8 years and a veteran of the 1st. Gulf War.
It seems as if my country has forgotten about me. A year after I was discharged from the military I had an accident which required emergency care late at night. I was registered with the VA and even had my card on me in my wallet during the accident. During this time in my life I was not making alot of money and did not have a cushion to bounce on if I fell. Well I fell and no one was there to catch me.
50,000 hospital bill!! All paperwork was filed correctly to the VA. I was still under military obliglation at the time. The VA turned down all claims. I then had to file Bankruptcy and lost my small business. I did not even have a chance to get started and got screwed over by the very people which I have served and protected.
But you know what, I still love my country and would serve it again and again. Eagle, I would follow you any where any time!
It is the people that make the difference. If you put the right people in office our gov’t works the way it was designed to. The wrong people, then that is what our constitution is for. To remove said people from office and start again!!
I had to start over before I even got started. If I can do anyone can do it.
We the People of the United States of America. There is only one USA, lets make sure it stays the USA.
HOOOAAAAA!!!!!!!!

How about putting the rest against social security.. ? wait, that would make sense.. naw.. lets pay down some of that 11 Trillion in debt.. ha, what am I thinking..like that would make a dent anyways.. to be sure, they will find the most obscure, dumbest way to waste our money and congratulate themselves (soon to be followed by a payraise) as they drive us deeper into debt.

I like a lot of trucker Matt’s ideas also. But to put some sanity to these requests – maybe a simple test would be to consider the impact of NOT aiding a particular firm. Take GM for example – which for years has fought a government protected extortion racket (UAW) – and has NOW BEATEN THEM – which few posters here are aware. The 2007 national contract with the UAW calls for GM to hire new employees in at about $14 per hour plus benefits – around HALF the old union scale, and a lot of the cumbersome workrules have also been eased. GM has also spent BILLIONS on R&D – including the most advanced electric car in development (Chevy VOLT) – which is only a year or so away from the market (final testing – mainly to confirm battery capabilities are now under way.
We can say “screw GM” – and let them file bankruptcy – and then they can say – screw us – and dump about $200 billion dollars of pension and healthcare obligations on the government – like many of the airlines who filed bankruptcy just did. Only difference is that GM has over 450,000 retirees and surviving spouses right now. Maybe the “SMART” thing to do is to recognize that our auto industry – the core of the manufacturing sector – is a STRATEGIC asset – and at least it is worth helping them get through this economic crisis – and then we find out whether the new lower union pay scale and the VOLT will turn things around. With GM’s retiree base rapidly aging, and likely to be much smaller in 15 years or so – it makes a hell of a lot more sense to give them $50 billion in loan guarantees – than to have them dump many times that amount in obligations on the government.
Companies like American Express who also also calling for aid need to get a grip. Amex is still a profitable company – they can easily weather a few losing quarters. If AMEX shuts down some operations, all it will mean is some Class A office space becomes available to lease to someone else. If GM goes under – they will have hundreds of old industrial sites – with possible EPA issues – sitting all over the country. GM has been closing down old plants, cleaning up the sites, etc. – I think letting them continue to do this on their own dime makes a lot more sense than letting them fail and dumping that whole problem on the government as well.
Considering all the aid that the Japanese auto firms have received from their own government agency (MITI – Ministry of International Trade and Industry) – our helping our native auto industry is simply leveling the playing field. Local and State government here have also bent over backwards to provide “aid” to Japanese auto plants, in the form of tax abatements.
In another 15 years, we might not only find that GM and Ford are doing well – it could well be the Japanese, with by that time an aging U.S. workforce, and who will have to start paying taxes when their “sweetheart tax deals” expire – who may be struggling.

All that money being passed out to cover the gambling debts of the bankers and insurance folk, the economy going down the drain. This bailout money has passed what the republicans borrowed the last 8 years.
The $700b+ (trillion plus) should have gone into the toilets of Los Angeles.
Make it when any toilet is flushed in southern California it ends up at a plant in the Mojave. That’s where the sewage is turned into fresh water, fertilizer and methane gas. The plant would be powered by solar, the sewage by products will all be used.
All the equipment and materials needed for this project would come from America. We’d have to build diesel engines for the earth moving equipment, we’d have to build the earth moving equipment. Pipes and pumps and what ever else is needed. Workers would have to be trained, they would need pick ups, shovels & hammers. The equipment, trucks and everything would made all over America.
The workers would have to be paid, they would have money for cars and movies and and houses and dinner out and everything else.
A project of this size could put America back on the road but we gave the money to the bankers and insurance folks to cover their gambling debts.
These days the democrats and the republicans are different sides of the same coin. Will the democrats do what’s right or will they continue be the other side of same coin?

The unraveling started when Mr. Wonderboy Clinton signed what amounted to affirmative action housing into law, thereby allowing all kinds of not really income to be called income. From what I have seen from the last 4 or 5 presidential elections it will not get better for sometime still. There has to be better candidates than either party has presented the last 4 or 5 elections, if not we haven’t seen anything yet.

I think you guys have this all wrong, the dems were all hot and bothered and ready to sign a blank cheque. They were GOING to waste the money on SOMETHING.
While sure there was a bait and switch here, by choosing to INVEST the money rather than just give it away, they are doing something FAR less stupid.
However it is somewhat more scary to me, because while it might not be the communism the dems were hoping for, it is the government taking a controlling interest in private business, aka socialism.
I’m a bit torn myself, communism would suck more but fail sooner, socialism on the other hand works half way and unless we were to do something Naziesque and force some outside capitalist nation (are there any left anyway?) to stop our socialism, we could be stuck with it for a very very long time.
Then again, gotta look on the bright side, Obama will probably screw up so bad we’ll be having another constitutional convention in 2012.

Buying back mortgages was way to complicated. The real problem was bank liquidity. Bank borrowing from the Fed wasn’t sufficient. This way banks get an infusion of cash through direct investment; read asset verses liability. And they don’t want to say who is getting this cash as it might signal a bank with a problem and cause depositors to withdraw funds, which would require more direct investment from the Fed. Once the banks have sufficient cash, they’ll be more apt to lend to business, consumers, each other, etc. This would probably be the best solution given the current crisis among the Feds member insitutions, and within the Feds charter. Let Freddie and Fannie worry about the mortgages and businesses can borrow money only if they are likely to return to profitability. The Democrats created this problem, but the Republicans watched while both sent cash home to their supporters.

When are you people going to take off the partisan blinders and vote for the best person? It was the democrats that put pressure on the republicans to sign off on the bill after they voted against it the first time, but the same republicans that had a backbone the first time, gave up like spineless cowards after the second vote. We better not bail out the auto industry. The reason they are going bankrupt is because they are putting out inferior products, and fail to give what the consumer wants. Why aren’t Honda/Nissan/Toyota asking for their cut? They also make cars out here and employ many workers. The american auto makers keep dragging their feet with gas saving engines, while Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are starting to make everything more fuel economical. If the govt bails out the auto industry, I will totally lose faith in the country, and will just start calling this the USSA (United Socialist States of America).

I still can NOT believe how so many of you have NO idea what Congress is doing, blaming everything on Bush out of sheer habit.
Gang, the housing bubble that caused all of this was cause almost exclusively by specific democrats, and worse, the CAUSE of the crash is the most important aspect… which was the use of banks to accomplish SOCIAL MISSIONS… that’s right, more social spending… but in this case, causing banks to stop operating as banks, and instead act as soup kitchens, dispensing mortgages to people that could NOT handle the debt.
This was exactly how liberal democrats corrupted the home lending market. The misuse and corruption of banks (and heavily defended by the Democrat Congressional Black Caucus in particular)
Now think back, about a dozen years ago, a group of serious minded folks swept into Congress that was willing and ABLE to tackle the serious issues of government spending and more importantly, start addressing our DEBT. Everything was on the table to freeze spending, and to cut, deeply, the public sector which has grown to OBSCENE levels.
Our failure to support the 104th congress, and the leftist media machine that worked night and day to attack/discredit/stop them over a decade ago… are to blame for a fiscal house that is WAY out of order.
We are in for a staggering depression that will last in excess of 10 years, with 4 or 5 Americans out of every 10 being unemployed while our massive debts are paid off… just as the baby boomers are all leaving the workforce, and going on to public assistance.
And since some idiots said that a “service economy” was a good idea, and raised minimum wages and regulation to the point where every job that could be shipped to Asia has gone there… we no longer have squat for a manufacturing base.
We are totally screwed.
And it is VERY centered around government run social spending, the engine of the Democrat party… bringing them votes at taxpayer expense for nearly 100 years.

Just a stupid, stupid move by this gas bag Schumer, he should be investigated and tried for his actions. With a 11% approval rating in congress, why is it only Republicans that are being replaced? Dan Arnall in his blog says, “Then what are THEY doing with that $700 billion blank check? THEY are buying bank stock, not troubled assets. Who is “THEY”? I understand the $700 billion, give or take another trillion) is in the hands of the “Federal” Reserve bank, which is not a part of our Federal Government, but a stockholder-owned private corporation, whose stockholders identity, the wealthiest people in the world, is kept secret, like the Bilderburg Group people. Our Federal politicians have placed the $700 billion or so in their hands, and it looks like they are now using our money, the taxpayer’s money to buy up other non-”Federal” Reserve banks. At least, in the case of Enron and Worldcom, CEO and otherHeads were presecuted and sent to jail and some were even asked to pay back. The problem with in this country is that it allows you notonlt to steal but to even leave the organization on a golden parachute.

I hope that every one of you who complains about the “welfare” system of America doesn’t take a tax deduction for his/her mortgage every year. That is the biggest “welfare” system of all and probably every one of you (and I) benefit from it.
Yes, there were people who got mortgages that they shouldn’t have. BUT the mortgage companies do have to take a portion of the blame (most of it). Last year, my husband and I, after 15 years of saving, decided to put an addition on our VERY modest house. Mortgage companies fell over themselves trying to give us WAY more money than we (A) needed and (B) could honestly afford. I challenged them–”Why would I borrow 200K for a 120K addition?” and was told I could “invest” the rest in the stock market. When I said that I would be paying interest on 80K that I didn’t “need” for 20 years, they again pushed the investment angle. Luckily, I knew better and passed. BUT, how many other people wouldn’t know better. Even my VERY wealthy father said I was an idiot for not taking the $$$. He said, “You’re borrowing at 7% and can make 10% in the market. You are throwing away 3%.” Yeah, right.
So my husband and I were smart and only borrowed what we could afford. Then…I finally got pregnant…then he got sick. Emergency surgery. And even with medical insurance (GOOD medical insurance), we are looking at some huge bills.
Then the market tanked and my job was gone. And he can’t find anything to take up the slack of me losing my income. What’s more, the small LOC that we got for the addition–now that the credit market is so tight and housing prices have tanked, we cannot refinance even though we’ve been so careful with our money. We may become another one of those “losers who borrowed more than they should and deserve to lose their house.”
So….every one who is so much smarter than me…don’t get sick. Have a job that cannot be downsized, don’t put money into the economy by improving the value of your home, and DON’T you dare take that mortgage deduction on your 2008 tax return. Then yell about all the stupid people who should lose their houses.
I do not agree with how the government is spending our money, but after 8 years of GW and a war(s) we don’t belong in WE are getting what we deserve. Looks like the terrorists were VERY successful in their attack. They have us running around spending money on a war. The terrorists goal with attacking the financial district of the US was successful–it just took 8 years. Patient little suckers, aren’t they.

To whom do we send our bail-out application? We are a seasonal small business, and due to Pelosi and the Hispanic Caucus, will be going out of business at the end of this year. We will not be getting our 4 guest workers back in 2009. We are in a program called H2B whereby the workers stay here for 9 months, sans families, pay into Social Security and all the other taxes which they can’t benefit from, and after 8 months working here, go home. They are vetted by Homeland Security, and are all given clean bills of security. We have been in business since 1969, and do not have a golden parachutes, few small business owners do….and due to age, probably not likely to get employed. In short, not having these guest workers, means no income, no income means we can’t pay our mortgage nor continue to buy health insurance….so, tell me where to sign up for our bail-out. PS, Until the last 5 years, we always employed local people, but when our business became seasonal, couldn’t find people who wanted to be idle for 4 or 5 months…hence the need for guest workers.

It will only accelerate the rate of foreclosures as more people jump on the gravy train.

The man on the street is left out completely on all this bailout stuff. If the government really wants to solve this problem then as of the date the bailout was passed, declare all mortgages paid off. Banks and Mortgage companies then sends an invoice to the treasury to get their money. The american taxpayer has more money to spend on autos , clothes, food , tvs etc and consumer goods. The economy would take care of itself, banks would not close, autos would be selling and all would be well. Also give the american taxpayer a tax credit for buying energy efficient autos. Drill here drill now pay less is also a good idea.
What they are doing now is giving the big companies all of our money and they are using that money to buy other companies etc. The american taxpayer is left out of this completely. Who elected or appointed these goons to these positions.
Bill H

So who is it that started this bailout thing and is now pushing to buy the auto industry?…oh yeah the Dems…the ones that want the government to own everything…the ones that pushed “bi-partisan” Bush into this. His biggest problem that he gets blamed for is the Congress –the economy wasn’t anywhere near the disaster we are facing before the Democratic congress took over.
Many of you sling the term leaders around…but that is exactly what we are lacking in Congress ..LEADERS….a bunch of what’s in it for me followers….we need leaders , not politicians to run this country!

We are led by two political parties without meaningful differences. Both parties are represent the ideals of big-government statists.
The difference is that one party wants first graders to learn how to put a condom on a banana, and the other party doesn’t want their children to learn about sex until college. I guess that difference is fundamental enough for some voters.

RyanT.: Political parties truly are the root of all our modern governmental problems. But this isn’t really a two-party state anymore. Consider these facts:
-Democrats supported an ill-advised war initiated by a Republican president
-That same Republican president pushed for expanding entitlements and grew the size of the government by over 30%, thereby ballooning the debt
-Democrats complained about domestic surveillance and then quietly voted to do nothing about it
-Republicans threw out free-market principles and supported government intervention in the financial sector
All these facts (and more) point to one conclusion: on the “big” things that affect our country–war, fiscal responsibility, personal liberty–there is no real difference between the two parties.
Yeah, they may differ on social issues. Big deal. On taxes? Sure, Democrats want to raise taxes. But Republicans want to borrow from China and the Middle East to pay for stuff. Both options stink, because both options ignore the sad ruth that we’re essentially bankrupt.
All the stupid little issues most people argue about are there to distract us from the bigger picture: Democrats and Republicans COLLUDE (yes, I use that word because I basically consider the parties to be criminal organizations) to deceive the public and block out any chance of a third party gaining a foot-hold.
The Republican and Democratic parties are simply the two wings of the vulture that’s trying to pick our bones clean. There’s really no sense in arguing over which wing is “better.”

If you think the Goverment is to blame then hold them responsible and vote them out.
If you think banks are to blame then hold them responsible and pull your money out.
If you think people are to blame then hold them responsible and let them deal with the consequences.
There is plenty of “Blame” to go around. The truth of it is no one wanted this to happen. The Government made a poor decsion in the late 70′s to push these loans, they used pressure though the 80′s and 90′s to continue it, two and a half decades later they were warned. Unfortunatly for us the country was too much in Hate with the administration to pay attention. That’s what hate gets ya.
No one wanted this to happen. It did and we all have some level of responsibilty in it.
So quit making excuses and whining. Stop living outside your means. Learn a little about finances, (it’s free at the libary you know), and quit voting for the same old politician who backs the party before the people.
Now comes the next big poor Government decsion. Reward (Bailout) the irresponbible by not holding them responsible and punish the responsible by holding them responsible.
This is such a Democratic concept. Now you now why the fiscal conservatives are so angry at Bush.

It is the inherent right of a democratic people to remove our leaders, change policy, or make changes in our institutions of government by force or general uprising if such entities have entrenched themselves beyond the reach of traditional legal or constitutional methods. When the bureaucracies no longer serve the people but instead those entities whose interest lie contrary to the good of majority of the common Americans it is not only the constitutional right but a moral obligation to rise up against those who have corrupted our most sacred institutions. Corrupt politics have infiltrated every venue of American life. Our legal system has become so entwined with politics that political affiliation controls the selection of those entrusted with the most sacred duty of interpreting the laws of our land. Politics now dictate over which cases our Judges may or may not preside. There is little doubt that justice is no longer blind but peering beneath her blindfold with a politically jaundiced eye.
The very existence of the Plum Book is blaring evidence of the level of corruption that consumes our political system. FEMA’s recent fiasco is merely a bubble in a raging sea of incompetents that fill these political payoff positions; positions which in many cases directly affect the lives and futures of the common American.
Our royal federal officials feel untouchable, much like the mobsters of the twenties or the drug lords of today. They control the legal system. They have placed themselves above the law. They have amassed large fortunes and feel comfortable knowing that those they cannot manipulate they can buy.
Yet, there is a general uneasiness creeping into the atmosphere in Washington. Like a criminal who has gotten away with the crime there is always a nagging doubt they left some clue behind. They sense that something is coming. John Steinbeck said it best when he wrote,” Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts, perhaps the fear of a loss of power.” They fear rightly so. The seeds of their destruction have been sown and are even now forcing their way from the dark earth of discontent. Our exalted public royalty is beginning to feel the rumbling as the common man awakens to their betrayal. They have stacked the fodder beneath their feet with actions that can only be labeled as unconscionable. The flames of righteous rage, though a smoldering ember for the moment, need only a tiny spark to erupt into a cleansing fire. Aristotle said it best when he wrote,” Revolutions are not trifles, but spring from trifles.” It will happen. It will be a small thing.

Its time to stop paying taxes. This is beyond a doubt one of the most criminal bait and switch operations ever. If someone is a lawyer they would do well to file a fraud and incompetance lawsuit against Paulson and include every memeber in the house and senate that voted for the bailout.

Posted by: jason | November 13, 2008, 12:30 pm 12:30 pm

Hey you all are missing the point. Paulson is a DEM and BUSH could not sit around and do nothing unlike the congress for past 2 years. There is enough blame to go around. I say let the Automakers file chapter 11 and then get rid of the unoins

Posted by: secarmack | November 13, 2008, 12:32 pm 12:32 pm

I want to know when all of you people are going to stop hiding behind forums and blogs and actually do something about this. Stop blaming Republicans or Democrats, get off your rear, and let’s start organizing our thoughts and get this to our leaders. If we get enough people together we can start getting answers. Anyone with me?

Posted by: xlntman | November 13, 2008, 12:41 pm 12:41 pm

All this money stuff is way over Bush’s head, so he has just allowed Paulson and Bernake to print all the money they need to bail out their buddies. They both should do time. I’d rather see soup lines again for the next few years, rather than see my kids and grandkids pay this debt for the next 100 years. Let the companies fail. If they print much more money; it will be worthless and will still deal with another depression. Bush should be sent to the ranch until 1/20/09, so at least we can keep him from doing more damage. And those who voted for “change”; we’ll all get our change and you libs won’t like it either. It’s only going to get worse, and you better get prepared. The economy is crippled from Democratic policies.

Posted by: Gabacho | November 13, 2008, 12:49 pm 12:49 pm

Not that I like Paulson and or Bush but, it was the Democrats who wrote the Bailout, not the former. What is going to happen when they are unable to shift blame, here in the near future?

Marx Proposal Number Five seems to be the leading motivation for those backing the Wall Street bailout In his Communist
Manifesto, published in 1848, Karl Marx proposed 10 measures to be implemented after the proletariat takes power, with the
aim of centralizing all instruments of production in the hands of the state. Proposal Number Five was to bring about the
?centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.?

Better idea!
Give 1 to 2 million dollars to every citizen of this country and let THEM stimulate the economy and pay off their debt and mortgages.
Freeze prices on retail goods to prevent inflation. Of course laws (rules) would have to be written to keep inflation in check, but it would help everyone from the poorest UP, instead the top of the food chain.
Doing this would cost LESS than ONE BILLION $’s !!!
There would still be 699 BILLION dollars left to help with after the ship started to float money to citizens.
What do you think of that?

Soon China and the middle east will control our economy in way we cannot comprehend.

Posted by: CommonSense | November 13, 2008, 4:53 pm 4:53 pm

CommonSense: The Democrats didn’t create the problem; they INCENTIVIZED the problem. There’s a world of difference.
No one FORCED banks to lend to “risky” people. The government made it supposedly “less risky” for banks to do sub-prime lending. Banks believed their loans would be backed by Freddie and Fannie, so they went wild with it, creating all sorts of weird ways of packaging risky mortgages as “investments” and betting on which would default. As Mr. Bush would say, “fuzzy math.”
THAT’S WHY WE HAVE THIS WHOLE MESS. Democrats misguidedly wanted poor people in houses they should never have been given, and Republicans turned a blind eye to the creative accounting going on at investment banks. The irony is that the vast majority of sub-prime loans went to middle- and upper-income people with bad credit, not the poor people the Democrats supposedly wanted to help.
Which just goes to show everyone how government intervention rarely works.
So both parties are guilty. Period. I’ve actually heard several radio commercials recently with banks touting the way they “held back” from getting involved in the sub-prime lending frenzy. My wife works at a bank, and it’s not caught up in this mess. No one held a gun to their head and said “Do more risky loans!” These smaller banks rightly played it safe, and these are the banks people should be using.
The last thing we should be doing is rewarding the banks that decided to effectively gamble with their clients’ money. Just like we shouldn’t reward an industry (American car manufacturing) which still operates like it’s the middle of the 20th century.

Fredie and Fanie own all those bad loans thanks to Barny the Frank. They have no clue where your loan is. Its been sold around the world as a security. Thats why they want to re-do everybodys loans. They need your signature on a new document that they can make sure they know where it is.
After all, they never put money up for you when you bought that house. It was created by you out of thin air when you sighned that loan. They make you believe your the debtor. Its they that are the debtor. They use your money you created and charge you interest on your own money. AND THE GOVERNMENT COLLECTS THE TAXES.

Okay people I have read just about all the comments and it seems that we the people are p o’d at our government. We need to declare shenanigans on our government and march on Washington and take our country back. Now isn’t this written in the constitution that allows us to bear arms against an evil government? Okay now all we need is a leader and we can take back our country.

I can’t believe how stupid the ‘educated’ American public has became. First GWB requested the bailout, that’s all he can do. Congress, democrat controlled, must approve every penny of taxpayer funds spent. Basic grade school government lessons. They took a 4 page (GWB request) and turned it into a 400 page pig stye laden with pork. Now we have Hussein employing every high level ‘criminal’ from the organizations that stole the money (well over a trillion dollars) and ran. Do we still have to wonder where the millions in illegal campaign dollars Hussein collected came from? If the American people were to lynch every criminal democrat who deserves it we would have to import rope. Lining them up and shooting them through the head 3 at a time with a $0.02 22 cal bullet would still be a waste of money.

For years I have been a card-carrying “Republican by choice, a Conservative by the Grace of God.” What choice do I make now??? If my state had a Conservative Party, I would gladly change my affiliation to that. I am also a Thomas “Jeffersonian” through self-education. I am sorely afraid of the direction my country is heading. Someone earlier mentioned a march on Washington. My husband and I talked about this a few weeks ago. I WANT TO DO THAT….with as many like-minded patriots as could be mustered. There has to be a way.

WOW, if all of us listened to RON PAUL we wouldn’t be in this mess, but no we listen to our TV news and drink their kool-aid what do you expect to know about presidential candidates when all of our TV is controlled by 4 corporations.
google: outFOXed and see how TV works
Oh and your Obama he is already making changes, he VOTED for the BAILOUT, now if you people knew he plays with the big boys not average american, this was a huge CLUE and you still voted for him because he promised change, but didn’t really say what he is going to change, shuffling taxes around is not a plan, controlling government spending is, and Obama is not going to do that.

Seems to me that our ruling class of politicians has employed 2 techniques to rule and subjugate us to their will.
1. We are made to feel GUILTY. We are condemned for having lost our “innocence” by inventing consciousness and self determination.
We are condemned for assuming the responsibility to use our own mind!
We are condemned for exchanging our automatic bicameral life for a “volitional conscious life…condemned for exchanging our nature-given bicameral mind for a superior, man invented conscious mind.
2. Our parasitical politicians, educational bureaucrats, and political news media manufacture and create problems that do not exist then come up with the solution. This technique is old as dirt.
We, the People are then offered automatic solutions to their manufactured problems (whitch never existed) and guidance through life into an “effortless garden of Eden” or a Utopian hereafter “IF” we exchange our own invented consciousness for faith in their “External Authority” – A bi-cameral faith in some leader, doctrine or God. We are offered the “reward” of escaping the “self responsibility” to make our own decisions and to guide our own life.
But, for that “reward” we must renounce our own mind to follow someone else’s mind or higher authority! Or, from the holy one leading the pack who may or may not be aware that they also are being controlled by the forces of nature.
Transparency has to offer accountability. How can we have a democracy without accountability? And how can we have accountability with politicians who are dishonest?
History reveals that Altruist like Plato, Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao, Castro, Chavez etc… Have waived their flag of what they must do for the “greater good”. Whenever we are told that we need to sacrifice, this becomes a warning. This should raise a “red flag” forewarning us of CONTROL! Millions of people died or were tortured for their quest for power and glory!
They buy into rationalizing that the “End justifies the “Means” sacrifice” the individual. They are users! Which means they do not respect us for who we are?
When I was in college, professors talked about the free exchange of ideas and what “ought to be”? Not “What Is”! Which, if they deny they end up accepting “What is not”!
Market business people however address what is. They are “value creators” by addressing the needs of society. They only profit from doing work that benefit their potential customers!
Respectfully,
George Maris

Can someone bail me out for my stocks? It is down 50% from its high. Can you also bail me out from my 401K! If you are bailing out irresponsible people who had no right of owning a home and can’t afford one, you should bail me out too!

Why do we need to work? The government gives sooo many people food stamps. The next goverment fiasco will be free/socialist healthcare. The government will pay all student loans, credit card loans, mortgages, car notes, car insurance. What else can the goverment do for those who have not the ambition nor the pride to work. Even people with great diablilities work and are productive.
Thanks for readingthis rant.

We are finished. We have no property rights, no borders, language, or culture, and people are buying guns thinking that is going to help them when the government comes to take everything. I am glad I am old enough to remember when I did have rights, and now I can follow the example given in the Meditations by Marcus Arealius.

How can I receive TARP money?
I act as a bank, because I’m holding a $50,000 mortgage on property in Florida that has become basically worthless due to the oil spill and the economy.
The owners of the property have stopped paying me the $400 per month which was supposed to continue for 15 years, and I am having a loss.
Please advise.
