Blagojevich To Appoint A Senator
Take that, Patrick Fitzgerald! Take that, Harry Reid! The Governor of Illinois wants everyone to know — he’s still the governor. And he doesn’t care terribly that people think he shouldn’t be appointing anyone to the U.S. Senate — given the cloud he’s under. Former Attorney General Roland Burris is Blagojevich’s choice to fill the seat vacated by President-elect Obama. Not at all clear that he’ll actually be seated by the Senate. Announcement coming at 2 p.m. Chicago time. 3 p.m. eastern. You can be sure we’ll be watching…More here.

Roland Burris looks to be a solid choice.
Much better than someone such as Caroline Kennedy.
Good move Blago.
Let’s see what the US Senate does.

You’ve got to hand it to this guy, he’s got chutzpa that’s for sure. It’s kind of endearing.

A politically potent choice here. How can the Democrats deny such a seemingly legitimate choice when they really want to hold on to their new majority? The “battle” over this should be very interesting.

Good choice – it gives us a good temporary senator – and saves the state $$ so we don’t have to have a special election. The current governor is toast anyway but now it will take our problems out of the spotlight and who cares what happens to him. Republicans will have a fit but again who cares what they want – they are so yesterday

It pains me to say this, because I think AG Burris is a good choice to fill Obama’s Senate seat…but, I hope the Illinois legislators do not accept ANYONE this thug chooses as a replacement. Anything he has done, and continues to do, since his arrest is tainted and should not be considered valid.

This is shaping up to be a battle royal. Very savvy move by Blago. Burris is well liked and respected in Illinois–never a hint of scandal. Jesse White saying he won’t certify and the Senate saying they won’t seat Burris. Blago’s move puts both White and the Senate in a bad position. Unfortunately Burris is the man caught in the middle.
