Condi Rice Plays for the Queen
ABC News’ Kirit Radia Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, an accomplished pianist, always envisioned playing at Carnegie Hall. Today, she got an arguably better gig.
Rice performed before the Queen of England at Buckingham Palace this evening, alongside the wife of her British counterpart and several members of the London Symphony Orchestra.
The group performed a piece by Brahms, Rice’s favorite composer.
Rice rarely plays the piano in public. She performed earlier this year at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado. She also played for a gathering of diplomats at the ASEAN meetings in 2006.
Rich received from the Queen an audio recording of the recital as a gift. Rice met with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Foreign Secretary David Miliband early in the day. She stopped in London Monday on her way to Brussels for a meeting of NATO leaders.
Also on Monday, Rice praised Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., when asked about her selection by President-elect Barack Obama to be her successor at the State Department.
"The first time that I met Senator Clinton was actually a world away from Washington, when she brought her freshman daughter to Stanford University where I was provost. And so our relationship goes back quite a long way. And I am very fond of her," said Rice.
"I think she has worked very hard on behalf of the country. I think she really comported herself very well in the campaign. And she’s an inspiration to a lot of people and a lot of – not just women, a lot of people. I know that she will bring enormous energy and intellect and skill to the position."

Hillary Clinton has had many roles in government, but she will never be Condi’s predecessor at State.

Too bad we’re seeing this side of Condi Rice as she’s exiting. Is she starting to get off a leash?

Condi Rice is a bigger idiot than her supporters. She is a disgrace to the United States and nothing but a brown nosing, propaganda spitting little screwup!!!!

The Queen will not be so amused with Condos replacement. The Queen of Sleaze is a real piece of Trailer Rubbish.

Great playing Condi. I always had a feeling condi liked Hillary and I also have a feeling she voted for Obama.

All pretense of Bush being a President is now gone. Those remaining in the administration are showing their true selves, from Cheney the Louse to Rice the Lady.

She’s trying to change her image from a blood-sucking war monger to a pacifist…
No deal: she started war. She is a war criminal!

Nice playing. I admire both Rice and Hillary, two brilliant women.

Interesting how posters here read more into this than what it was: a chance to perform for the queen with GREAT accompaniment.
Condi may be the smartest secretary of state we have ever had. She has also had the hardest gig.
Good job, Condi.

I think Condi has done an OK job for the most part. But I think Hillary will do better because she has had some experience as an international presence/”diplomat” while she was First-Lady.

How can you people defend Rice’s pitiful job as SOS, she is a joke, just like her “husband” oh, I mean the president.

Secretary Rice did NOT play before the ‘Queen of England’. The last Queen of England was the Scottish Stuart Monarch, Queene Anne, in 1707; and since then there has never been, and never will be, another Queen, or King, of England. All British monarchs are now ‘Queen (or King) of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Nothern Ireland or, to make it simple – ‘The British Queen’.
If you call Elizabeth 11 ‘Queen of England’, where does that leave the Scots, the Welsh, the Irish?
If you report the news, at least check your facts first. How would you like it if we said Obama would be president of Chicago?

I think Condi is a great woman and has done a great job as Sec. of State.
I find it wonderful that the Queen thought she was grand enough to perform for her.
Hill will never be respected like Condi, Hill is a joke!!!!!!!!!!!
The rest of the world sees her as a joke, so what can she accomplish! Nothing!
O only wanted her there so she wouldn’t hold him up and would not run against him 2012.
To bad she agreed to take the job!
Now she is a laughing stock!

Dr. Condoleeza Rice is an impressive woman, an accomplished musician, and a smart lady. I wish we have all had more opportunity to see her musical side! Goodness knows she had a tough job as Secretary of State working for a President and VP who wouldn’t really let her practice diplomacy.

Condi will be back – someday – in the Obama administration.

I am pleased to see Secretary Rice receive such an honor. Congrats!! For anyone whom would take this opportune time time to diminish this once in a lifetime event for her with politics should get themselves involved within the career field. Let’s see how well you do to provide your idealism to the administration when you are not the one in the oval office. Is that a challenge?! I believe it is. Whom will take it?

Condi certainly would have boosted the chances of McCain if she was his running mate. Wonder what future Condi has in mind besides playing the piano. I suspect she will be Ambassador to some country.

A lot of bad things has been said about Bush and his party, I’m one of those believers, “there’s some good in the bad, and some bad in the good” Rice was good for Bush.
Posted by: Gayle Grimsley | December 1, 2008, 7:19 pm 7:19 pm
Rice, like Colin Powell, were the few good things that Bush did right by in his administration. They were pretty much under tight leash from the Bush administration, and had little recourse. Rice was offered these high profile positions within the Bush administration and it would have been foolish to turn them down, given the fact that they might never have been on the table again. I think Bush merely did this to give the appearance of inclusion but never really cared much. Had Obama come along before to offer them these positions they probably would much have rather been a part of his administration than Bush(remember that they were defending Bush’s policies while clenching their mouths?)

Wow! What a cool thing to do. It was an easy piece, but I’m sure she practiced and rehearsed it. Of course, ever since she was a teenager she’s been on the stage with many top orchestras.
On Friday, I’m playing Mendelssohn’s “Venetian Gondola Song No. 1″ on piano in a small recital at the Maryland Hall in Annapolis – and I dream of an audience like Rice’s some day.

This is a wonderful story about Connie, she is such a wonderful and kind person, it is too bad she did not have some one better that played her in the movie W. The actress was nothing like the real Ms. Rice. I am sure she will do well no matter where she goes from here. She should go on tour, I would sure like to see one of her concerts.

I am tired of all the crap from non supporters of the USA. I may not approve of who is in office, but I will support them and there right to speak freely. So, get off there back and shut up.

Putting politics aside, it is wonderful to see public figures like Ms. Rice exhibit Renaissance qualities in talent and intellect. Although It’s not hard to recognize the genius of Johannes Brahms but only wish more Americans would support Classical music. Ms. Rice is a wonderful classical pianist. Hats off to Robert and Clara Schumann too.

Secretary Rice regularly plays privately with a small group of other accomplished amateur musicians in Washington. I’m sure that doing so has helped her cope while working under Shrub.
Better than drink and drugs.
Oh, and though the comments about the Queen’s proper title are quite correct, she is often colloquially, if inaccurately, described as “The Queen of England” and everyone knows what is meant. Even the British do it, though they don’t like it when foreigners do.

It never ceases to amaze me how people are using the internet to spew such hate. Come on people, Don’t let hate over take your thinking. We are becoming the “United states of hate, one nation unto bitterness, with anger and hatred for all.”

I always admire Secretary Rice. She has done good job in difficult time. She is the woman who is real qualified for President of United State. I hope she will be one day President of United State. She is not like Obama and she can stand her own feet but Obama will rely on other expertise in many cases.

I respect everyone’s opinions but give me a break; put yourself in Dr. Rice position taking on the most delicate job as sec’y of state in this defficult time of power munger in unpridictable world. It totally different to agree on issue discussed but turn around and do otherwise by the world leaders, especially in countries where power is believe to a family right like in Cuba, Nigeria, Libya and countries alike. Dr. Rice has done well and she deserve to be honor for a job well done.

Susan Rice, Obama’s choice for US ambassador to the UN has a history under Bill Clinton that the Lefty media won’t discuss now.
“Bystanders to Genocide” in The Atlantic Monthly, Sep 2001. Authored by Samantha Power, an Obama adviser and someone who actually has a record of backing strong action against mass killings, the story does not reflect well on Susan Rice:
—At an interagency teleconference in late April, Susan Rice, a rising star on the NSC who worked under Richard Clarke, stunned a few of the officials present when she asked, “If we use the word ‘genocide’ and are seen as doing nothing, what will be the effect on the November [congressional] election?” Lieutenant Colonel Tony Marley remembers the incredulity of his colleagues at the State Department. “We could believe that people would wonder that,” he says, “but not that they would actually voice it.” Rice does not recall the incident but concedes, “If I said it, it was completely inappropriate, as well as irrelevant.”—
If one believes that the United Nations is a hopelessly ineffective institution and wants to make sure it stays that way, then perhaps Obama has chosen an appropriate emissary: a woman who prefers to ponder the political implications of INACTION — they’re going to love her at Turtle Bay.

CHICAGO — Nearly two years ago, Barack Obama muscled his way into the top tier of presidential contenders by breaking fundraising records.
When the 2008 campaign books are closed, the Democratic president-elect will shatter another record by coming close to, or capturing, the title of the first BILLION-dollar candidate.
That’s roughly how much the Obama finance team will have raised for his campaign, convention, transition and Jan. 20 Inauguration events.
The vast majority of the donations were generated during the unusually long primary and general election campaigns. A financial disclosure report scheduled to be released Thursday is expected to show that Obama raised more than $100 million in the final month of the campaign, campaign aides said.
That will bring the grand total for his campaign to more than $750 million — more than the combined sum raised by President George W. Bush and his Democratic rival, John F. Kerry, in the record-setting 2004 campaign and nearly as much as the total raised by all the presidential contenders then.
The Obama team also helped raise more than $50 million for the Democratic convention’s host committee in Denver and more than $100 million for the Democratic National Committee. He’s still raising money for his transition and Inauguration. Four years ago, Bush raised $40 million for his Inauguration.

HM the Queen is Queen of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland (i.e. the United Kingdom). She is also the Queen of Australia, Canada, New Zealand – etc, etc.
So we Brits don’t particularly mind how she is called. So, for example, when she is in Canada, she is the Queen of Canada first, and when she is in Jersey, she is actually Duchess of Normandy, because the Channel Islands are not part of the UK.

Ms. Rice’s musical skill is not just a superfluous part of her life. Musical training in classical music provides an underpinning for intellectual development, as many scientific studies have shown. It’s called the “Mozart effect,” but the brain stimulation of this effect is caused by practicing or even listening to any classical music. One study showed that the brains of accomplished, classical pianists like Ms. Rice are actually larger in some areas than are the brains of accomplished experts in other areas.
