Parallel Park With Push of a Button

Parallel parking has always been the most feared part of the driving test. Drivers from teens to veterans are all too acquainted with the tedious process of maneuvering your car back and forth, trying to squeeze in a small space without dinging the parked car behind you.

Technology has come to rescue. Now, you can parallel park at the push of a button. Ford announced new self-parking technology Tuesday that uses sensors on the front and back of the vehicle and power steering to effortless guide your car into the space. All you have to do is shift gears, control the gas and the car controls the steering wheel.

While Lexus already has a video system to help drivers gauge if they can fit into a space, Ford’s system is more advanced. Ford, considered to be the best situated of the Big Three to survive the economic slump, says they plan to debut the new self-parking technology mid-2009.

Why do we need this? Rather have a reasonable SUV that gets 35-40 MPG, and instead we get automated parking? What a waste.
