Obama Inauguration: The World Is Listening

We have correspondents watching and listening with people the world over — a couple of interesting notes. From Nick Schifrin in the Pakistani capital Islamabad — on Obama’s use of his middle name in the swearing-in: In a place like Pakistan, the middle name did not go unnoticed. If you talk to anyone here, no matter how poor, it seems they know Barack HUSSEIN Obama became the president of America. They don’t necessarily think the fact that he had a Muslim father will translate into different policies — but they certainly hope so. And from ABC’s Jim Sciutto: Think Muslims were listening? The headline in the Al Quds newspaper is already Obama’s line, "To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect." Now they’ll see what he does. Click here to see more of the world’s reaction to the inauguration.

Come on folks! The Pres. did not use the middle name to please the muslims. It is his name. His intentions was not to make the muslims feel more happier because they share the same name.
Should Swahili folks be happy because Baraka is a Swahili name!!!!!!!

If Senator Clinton would have won the election, where and when would Bill clinton have entered the stage – as a former President or as Senator Clinton’s spouse?

Who was that African-American woman who was just on being interviewed that implied during a response to Charlie Gibson that her taking Pres Obama’s blanket from the podium was OK since there is now a “Black President”-
She should be ashamed of herself- While everyone is proud of their being an African American president, she implies, on national television, that it is now OK for blacks to do whatever they want because there is a black president.
Disgusting- Absolutely Disgusting!

Why shouldn’t the president use his middle name?
Do you think he should be ahsamed of it?
Just because the conservatives tried to use that name as a negative in the election doesn’t make it negative. It’s his name. Get over it! Get over yourselves!

kbib, conservatives are not making a big deal of this. What comment above you made a big deal out of his name? This is an ABC site.
You are the one who is making his name an issue.

I have to agree with Frank, what in the world did Donna Brazil mean that it was okay to steal now because there is a black president? I don’t like it, and I’ve heard it from several other black people.

There’s trifling people in all walks of life. She’s just using Obama’s name as an excuse for her own irresponsible actions.

Barmast, your question, If Senator Clinton would have won the election, where and when would Bill Clinton have entered the stage – as a former President or as Senator Clinton’s spouse?
He would have still been introduced as President, it sounds funny but that is tradition. We will never know anyways.
I just got through reading the blog, and I guess it is true that Obama’s father was muslim. I didn’t believe it when I first heard it on the Internet forums.
A black man a white man, it is still a man!

Remember the incident last summer when an African American singer performed the Star Spangled Banner using the words of the Negro National anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing?” People howled that the words were unAmerican. I was hoping that Aretha would sing the song to the original melody. I was pleasently surprised however, when Rev. Lowery in his closing benediction opened with the third verse of that great song. I noticed that all at the Mall had their heads bowed (White, Black, Asian American, Native American) and mouthed the words in prayer. It was a patriotic moment wasn’t it? I am reminded of the late Ossie Davis’ line in his play’Purlie Victorious” that runs as follows “Being Colored’s lots of fun, when ain’t nobody lookin’.” Here’s lookin’ at ya, Barack Hussein, Be our Good Blessing. We’ve had eight years of an American curse.
