Closing Arguments: Obama’s War on Terror

President Obama hit another milestone today when he ordered 17,000 additional troops deployed to the war in Afghanistan. Twelve thousand — including 8,000 Marines and 4,000 Army soldiers — will deploy in the spring, with the remaining 5,000 support troops receiving their orders at a later date. So tonight, we ask you: Will the Obama administration’s order to send additional troops to Afghanistan make a real difference in the war on terror? Tell us what you think. No! It’s simply just fulfilling our part in the globalist agenda. That’s what it’s all about today: Globalism. Open your eyes. It’s not about America here anymore. Those that are running our world now see it differently today.

My husband and I support the Presidents decision to send more troops to Afghanastan. That’s where the US should have been more focused to begin with! Afghanastan was the last victim of the cold war the US went into that country, trained them gave them weapons taught them to grow drugs and just left! The sanctioned them for selling drugs that the US told them to grow to get the Russians hooked on, the idea they could win against a drugged army… The US did not support them like they’ve done in other countries throughout history. Let’s use japan, Korea, Germany as examples. The US should have built schools and taught the country how to help themselves. My husband’s helicoptor was shot down in that country in 2002 with US RPG’s.The poeple of that country are perhaps angry/US because though the intention was to help them in the ’70′s; for political gain. Did the US follow through and support them? NO! Now solve the problem and follow through by support the citizens/schools, education, empower them to be a productive member of this WORLD. We all bleed red, we’re all human beings. For all of us to live in peace, it must start somewhere by someone! The US needs to set an example:punish the wrong doers, then this time do it right follow through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, sending more troops into Afghanistan will not help anything in the region. I don’t see much difference in having troops in Iraq or in Afghanistan. Bring as many home as we can.

PS President Obama is the first President in a very long time that I’ve been proud of! He came into a polictical mess and is truely trying to make a difference, this however cannot be done overnight! And for the comment above; we all share this world and we all depend on each other in one way or another. Humanity is evolving… My dream is that we all learn to get along!!! I may not see it in this lifetime; however I’m hoping in my next life that dream comes true. Treat other’s as you wish to be treated. If we want respect, we first must give it… Simple phylosophy; how would our country-our world be if we practiced this? All Gods are one, we all bleed red. That said what’s really the problem?

I served in the military with the Army. I was one of the first military Combat Teams deployed to Afghanistan. I was with Ft. Campbell,KY 101st Aviation. I was a Chinook Helicopter Flight Engineer on helicopter 8424174. This helicopter was one of the 3 in the first large mission to start the war in this country. I was shot down in Khoust, Afghanistan, near the Pakistan border. If the government would have stayed in Afghanistan and stayed out of Iraq and left Saddam alone we would have problem captured Bin Laden by now, and at least lower the terrorist count in those two countries. During the Afghan war against Russia, we did everything in the world to help this country (Afghanistan) defeat the powerful Red Army. We made and gave them stinger missiles to use to shot down the Russians. And they did….very WELL! But when the Red Army left from defeat. The Us Government just left the Afghan people and country high and dry. That country was poor before the10 year war against the Russians. But after our intervention Afghan prospered in the growth of drugs to make money for themselves and that’s it. We left that country to broken from that long war. And we did nothing to help rebuild there cities, schools, and just something to get them back on there feet again. But if you look back on the US through the years we nuked Japan twice, destroyed Germany, and shelled Vietnam. But we went back to each of those countries and supported them. We did things to get their country back to normal as possible, so they can survive the devastation they took. But why didn’t we do this for Afghanistan? Maybe if we just did some small things… like build schools for the people of Afghan, so they can learn and understand why and what happened to there country. This country doesn’t even have a newspaper to inform and pass new to the people of that country. I believe we know where Bin Laden is and has been for the past 7 years. For instance, Bin Laden sends e-mails to our government about things he has planed to do in the future. In America, if you do something illegal over the internet the Feds will be knocking on your door within hours or even days later. So why can’t we do this to Bin Laden? Just marinate on that for a while!

NO. Troops will not help. They need COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS. That would help the Afganis help themselves.

Posted by: joyce | February 18, 2009, 3:18 am 3:18 am

Will more troops in Afghanistan make a difference? Nobody wins in Afghanistan. But it may help the sane populace for a while. And it really should keep the Taliban quite busy over there, versus here. Idle minds…
How can we ever thank our troops enough, for their supreme sacrifice in keeping us safe?

Ehemm … interesting… Hussein is doing what he criticized Bush for, sending troops overseas. Perhaps is what his koran comic book mandates. Who knows, I’ll never understand these muslim idiots. There is an idea, send muslims in the U.S. to fight for us, hell, take the mexicans too. Everybody wins. Death to the koran and islam.

I am a reporter work for a daily in Afghan capital Kabul. I consider sending additional troops to Afghanistan will be a stupid act and the responsible will be the people and the government of USA.
Currently a large number of people in Afghanistan believe that there is no difference between Soviet Union troops and US and Collation forces in Afghanistan and it’s the result of wrong strategy of USA in the region, killing of innocent people and some other such activities deploy by US-led coalition forces.
A few years ago while Afghans defeat Soviet Union, Afghan recognized USA as a best friend but we saw that when the Soviet Union defeated by Afghans and USA toke the revenge of Vietnam from SU the forgot Afghanistan.
If USA wants to being loved by Afghans they have to deeply revise their strategy in the region.
Now every one know even an Afghan child that who is terrorist, who is supporting them and where from they comes to Afghanistan, so if USA really wants to being loved by Afghans and really wants to combat against terror they have to destroyed the shelter of terrorists which is outside of the Durand line and USA have to punish the people who supporting the Taliban and others militants.
If US send more troops to Afghanistan it will creates problems for Afghans and as well as for USA.
I believe that sending more troops to Afghanistan will increase the civilian and military causalities in Afghanistan and instead of sending troops US have to pay attention to Afghan Security forces, to equipped them and well trained them to combat against the militancy in Afghanistan.

Our War on Terror?
This would be another war we can never win. I’ve never been to Afghanistan, but from what I’ve learned via TV news, this is a broken country at the hands of the Americans and the Russians long ago and with no credible leadership such as that Karzai guy with the fancy garments (I don’t think he’s got his people’s best interest in mind). The people there got used to having little and therefore they have nothing to lose now. Why would they greet our military presence with open arms or hope? Perhaps if we bring in our national guards with FEMA type of money to help rebuild what we’ve destroyed there in the past with housing like Habitat for Humanity that we’d have more credibility. When a nation gets a taste of real success and prosperity, then there’s more possibility for law and order, international law, and civility in the international community. Did we ever hear about looting, theft, arson and terror in any of the communities built by Habitat for Humanity? No, as there were more incentives to preserve a “Good Thing”. Can we honestly say that War on Terror in Afghanistan is a “Good Thing”. If Obama’s against the war in Iraq, how could he be for war in another location? Why is it that our country is becoming so lawless, more and more? It’s simply because people don’t care any more. Robbing a bank is no big deal now and perhaps with more bravery compared to the cowardice Madoff type of financial meltdown that robbed the hard-working Americans. The funny thing is nobody has been punished when it comes to the giant thieves.
In America, we’re so quick in declaring war on things; such as war on drugs, poverty, starvation, etc. and none of them worked. Don’t you think “War on Terror” is obsolete? Terror on terror eventually leads to the ultimate destruction of all of us, whether you’re the good or the bad guys.
Let’s redirect our energy, frustration and hostility to helping other nations and people improve their situation and livelihood and then we’ll all fare better.
As to capturing Bin Laden, I think it’s much cheaper just to leave him die on his own, as it’s too costly to find him and too bloody to have to kill so many Iraqis, Americans, plus more Afghans. Are we saying that one evil person is worth the risk of killing so many people? You think the victims of 9-11 would be satisfied knowing that we captured Bin Laden in exchange of so many other innocent lives from that day on?

Posted by: Monkey Wrench | February 18, 2009, 4:36 am 4:36 am

Not satisfied with one Vietnam, Obama feels the need to give us another. How does it folllow “Homeland Security” if all of our troops aren’t home to defend us in the 1st place? The troops are “leaving ” Iraq to go reinvade and occupy Afghanistan, can you say “shell game?” Where is Moveon.org NOW when we NEED them???

Posted by: hmn... | February 18, 2009, 6:55 am 6:55 am

to Pat – spout off all the cliches you want. The bottom line is that no matter what we do there is a radical elemental that wants to destroy our way of life and kill our citizens.

Posted by: mj | February 18, 2009, 9:08 am 9:08 am

Amazing. Simply amazing. All during the campaign, the candidate with the ‘forked tongue’ screamed at us that he would end the war and bring the troops home. Instead, he sends more troops to Afghanistan.
How many suckers voted for this jackass?
Over $50,000,000 you say?
Amazing.

BHO’s lack of experience is one thing –his lack of wisdom is another issue altogether. And it will cost us big time.
WHEN is Washington going to realize that we can’t fight every country’s battles for them? When does it END?
Why can’t our military be HERE IN THE USA protecting the taxpayers who support them?

Posted by: johnjayadams | February 18, 2009, 9:29 am 9:29 am

“America, if you do something illegal over the internet the Feds will be knocking on your door within hours or even days later.”
Most people that do illegal stuff over the internet, DO NOT have the equipment that Osama and most terrorist groups do to cover their tracks.
Osama does not send E-mails straight to the US Gov. they get routed through MANY IP address and THEN, I don’t think they go straight to the US GOV, they go to another Web Site in another Country and the US GOV gets them from there.

@macarthurseven,
I did not vote for Obama. He never said he was going to PULL troops out of Afghanistan. He said he would pull them out of Iraq over a given time frame and put more Military in Afghan. He has always said that.
(dang, I am defending Obama!)

Obama’s buddy, Burris, is a liar too. Are there any politicians left in Illinois who haven’t lied their way into office? That includes Obama and Burris and Blago….

johnjayadams:”Why can’t our military be HERE IN THE USA protecting the taxpayers who support them?”
You seem to willfully forget that the 9/11 attacks were actually traced to Afghanistan. When a foreign country attracts the US or knowingly harbors leadership and training facilities of a force that attacks the US, our military belongs in that country. That IS protecting the US.

Trust me.. I have been out here a while.. read my stuff.. you will know, I DID NOT vote for him. :)

We should have pursued Osama Bin Laden ASAP after 9/11. Our president is right to send more troops to Afghanistan. Our troops and innocent Afghan citizens are in an extremely dangerous situation. This terrible consequence is one more very important reason why the corrupt traitors of the right wing were repudiated, by the voters, on election day 11/98.

I don’t see that there’s much there to work with. The militants are stronger, and outnumber the government. The tribal area is partly in Pakistan where the government/military has a policy of hands off the tribal area.
Seems that the USA and a few complicit countries are to be the defenders of the general population, and their power will never be much even if we ‘help’ them. My only interest is in eradicating their perpetual poppy crop, and it doesn’t happen even with us there.
I say, remove the US forces and monitor the situation remotely (spies and sattelites). Train our forces for some future, well thought out, internationally approved offensive action. Retain that focus as our sole threat while we rebuild our credibility.

Ajax is right about Obama-and-Binden going after Osama-Bin-Laden in Afghan. MJ’s “no matter what we do there is a radical element that wants to destroy our way of life and kill our citizens.” After a second attempt, Saudi’s planned and destroyed the Jewish runned and insured Twin Towers. Remember the insurance companies wanted to pay for only 1 policy limit saying l limit applied to both towers. That was an extension of the terror here in the good ole USA. Many Americans of all races perished on 9/11. Assume the thinking man’s position and look at it this way: We support democracies. Iran is a democracy; they vote. Israel is a democracy; they vote. Saudi Arabia is not a democracy; people are decapitated if they even utter the word democracy. Bush is shown on TV news kissing the Saudi king and princes. He is begging for their money to build his library at SMU. After kissing them, the gas prices still kept rising. Saudi Arabia is not an isolated place: there’s radio, TV, and other outside Western influences pouring into the country. The Arabic Saudis would prefer democracy. Osama is being hunted by the Saudi King. The USA, because of our addiction to oil, supports and assures our soldiers’ blood to defend the Saudi King so long as they supply us with oil. Blood for oil. It’s in our national interest. Oil is the lifeblood of our economy and freedom to move about. Osama, and the third world Muslims, view us as their enemies for our support of the Jews and the Saudi King who incidentally also hates the Jews too! The Persians (Iran) are no friends of either the Jews or the Saudi King. Wait until the Chinese get into the picture. They too want the oil. If Osama gets rid of the Saudi King, the USA will of course assinate him once he comes out of the woods like Bambi’s mother. I believe the middle east will explode when everybody starts using WMD’s against one another, e.g., biological and nuclear. A worldwide cloud of radiation and dust carrying pandamic biological agents will come close to annihialating the planet of its humanity, animal, the oceans, and plant life. We will join the fate of the dinosaurs. At this point, here and now, we need Rodney King to cheer our national conscience with his famous cry, “Why can’t we all get along”!

Afghanistan has correctly been called ‘the graveyard of empires’ by Gates.
Thus a military effort without a major political effort will not work.
But sometimes, as with the surge in Iraq, that gives needed time for the political effort to work. It will clearly NOT be the last surge.
In Vietnam, we won all the major conflicts but still lost the war. The government of South Vietnam simply did not change enough, soon enough.
Thus, Afghanistan presents a major challenge, that will not self-resolve and which will require MEANINGFUL assistance from Pakistan, beyond merely allowing Predator Drone strikes.
If it is going to be done, it MUST be done within a 5 year window, for after that time the US Supreme Court begins to get involved adversely.

Posted by: brucerealtor | February 18, 2009, 10:09 pm 10:09 pm

I think we should bring all of our brave soldiers home from Iraq and Afgh. and send no more soldiers there! We have lost many soldiers and we need to back off…they do not want U.S. support! These countries need to fend for themselves…..we CANNOT solve the world’s problems…we DON’T seem to be able to solve our OWN problems here in the U.S.A.!!!!! Our country has spent millions of billions on these wars…part of the reason our country and economy are in the shape they are! I despise any type of fighting, lying, and killing….too much EVIL lurking We all need to learn to get along…especially within our homeland.

The liberals in this country condemned Bush and the Republicans for the war in Iraq. Obama spouted his retoric concerning the war all during his campaign to get elected and the liberals bought into it–what fools!. So-now its okay to have a war in Afghanistan and lose our soldiers lives there? What two faced hipocrites. We don’t belong in Afghanistan–Russia couldn’t beat them and neither will we. I have a son who is in his second deployment and they are trying to get him to ‘volunteer’ for another tour in Afghanistan. Sorry, Obama-he’s leaving before you can use him.

The afghan hate us they doesn’t need us that is why they are protecting the Taliban osama laden. They doesn’t wants to change why we want to send so many troops there.we should be guarding our country so no more future terrorist attack.

Posted by: Guatsim low | February 19, 2009, 1:20 am 1:20 am

It’s kinda funny. When President Bush sent a surge into Iraq, Obama said that it wouldn’t work. When it was working, Obama still said it wouldn’t work. When there was astounding results, Obama said very hesitantly that well, maybe it did work. Now, Let’s send in a surge into Afghanistan!!! We need to end this thing!!! As if the whole thing was his idea. The guy still doesn’t have a clue as to what he’s doing. But, YOU voted for him. Live with it!!!

Posted by: DAVE | February 19, 2009, 10:16 am 10:16 am

Yes we voted for the “wolf in sheep’s clothing” because we were sick and fed up in living under General Patton’s shadow…”Kill first, ask questions later”! It seems that on this good earth the destruction of the weaker living organism is a fact of life in order to assure our survival. And, it is done on a large scale just to live up to Cheney’s notion “that it must be done in order to maintain respect for our country” along with Reagan declaring an “incredible victory over the Rhode Island sized Grenada”. Is it any wonder why our current president Obama opts to continue the human destruction, way on the opposite side of the world? Apparently the slaughter of Osama is worth thousands of human lives and untold destruction of habitats and other property. If you take a close look at the American symbol, the Bald Eagle, have you ever seen it project a friendly greeting or does its countenance give you a feeling that it wants to pluck your eyes out? It is no Ben Franklin turkey! Free Enterprise itself is an aggressive concept. It works too, except for the greedy crooks that have always bastardized it. And, we want to spread it worldwide, too. If it weren’t for the educational institutions that emphasize Ethics and the various Religions that lay the moral foundations for the distinction between Right-and-Wrongful conduct, we’d all be in a much greater sorrowful mess. The killings, small and large scale, will continue inspite of “Obama-and-Biden” battling “Osama bin Liden” as noted in one the comments above. We Liberals hate it, but it’s the undeniable human nature of those at the top of grandiose political power to kill off weaker societies as Patton and Cheney have espoused it. It is Presidential to do that. That’s the power he “must” emit to the weaker nations of the world. We keep plugging in for humans to respect one another and to utilize dipolmatic negotiations with the goal of human salvation instead of its destruction, but it seems easier and quite acceptable in the USA to hate than to care for life. We just gotta have blood flowing in the streets, deserts, valleys, townships, and mountains. Unless of course we can finally see “change that we can believe in”. Right now the “Obama and Biden” administration is actually acting like the “Bush and Cheney” one. Only the door mat has changed. Now that’s the “change that you can believe in”.

Where is Code Pink?? Where are the protestors and peacemakers? Why aren’t they protesting this? They were angry and yelled bring our Troops home! Now, they are quiet as mice. Hypocrites! Why isn’t the media angry that we are sending troops? hello??? hello? Is this change? hello anyone home? People were fooled and manipulated by Obama, the media, Move on. Please wake up America you were duped!
