World Newser Question Of The Day: Obama At One Month

Results of an ABC News poll show that the President’s off to a strong start — in the meantime, we’ll play pollster here, for our Question Of The Day: On substance and performance — not style — what is your grade for the first month of the Obama Presidency? On an A-through-F scale. The poll focuses on the issue of "trust to handle the economy." We invite you to consider whichever qualities you consider most important.

Obama,…promised NO PORK,NO LOBBYISTS,Transparency, and an Ethical Admistration. So far we have had Tax Cheats,by the hand full,Pork in the Stimulis package,Lobbyists appointed to important chairs,Closed door shuffling to pass a bill no one read… A month and already Obama Has lies on his lips and Pork on his breath. Not a good start there spanky.

At this point I would give him a B.
He has put in place significant programs in response to the economic crisis and has reassured me he is not at all likely to skew towards the crazy Left – no rush to nationalize the banks, freeze prices, or the like.
The stimulus bill came out significantly trimmed down when you consider that the AMT patch was substituted in for some spending (a $70 billion dollar giveaway strongly pushed by Republicans that happens every year anyhow). I really consider this a $720B stimulus bill because of that bit of Republican influenced change.
In the ongoing debate, he has stuck to attacking opponents with honest facts. A nice change from the shoot-the-messenger approach from prior years.
So, overall a B. If his policies play out well and reduce the severity of this downturn, he may make an A yet. But a higher grade has to wait until his foreign policy chops get a bit of exercise.

Oh, and if you care about lobbyists in government, no one can deny he has an order of magnitude fewer than the last administration. And one of his first executive orders – substance – was to reinvigorate the Freedom of Information Act and increase the transparency of his administration. In these areas, he is so far above past administrations that he can only be faulted for not achieving his own exceptionally rigorous ideal (yet).

Lash Larue wrote: “…tax CHEATS by the handful…” Who would that be? To use the word “cheats” implies willfullness. A deliberate act to short change the IRS. You might argue that we had two nominees that should have known better, but “cheats?” I think not.

Close Gitmo promised: underway
An end to torture promised: done
End the Iraq war promised: in progress with a timetable established
Beef up Afghanistan promised: underway
Transparency promised: executive order issued
Obama gets a solid B

I give him A. He is fighting very hard to tackle the problems but the so called “opposition side” is pulling him backwards. They dont understand that the economic crisis is every corner of the world, and they are playing their part to get out of it. The President as well, thoroughly understands it.

Posted by: RS | February 23, 2009, 3:13 pm 3:13 pm

Troops still in Iraq. I give him an ‘A’ for that
Stimulus: What stimulus: ‘F’
Bailing out the greedy and the stupid for not being able to read the first 2 pages of their mortgage agreement: ‘F’
Talent evauation for cabinet appointments: too many tax cheats: but Defense Security Gates brings them up to a “D+”.
Bipartisanship: “C” I really believe he tried to reach ot but his own party, mainly Peliso and Reid and Co. made it very difficult.
Broken promises: “f-” promising not to raise taxes: Lie, he siad he will let the bush tax cutys expire. i don’t know what most Liberals are injecting, but when taxes go up for any reason, that’s a tax hike.
Promised to look for additional sources of energy and promised he would drill for our own. Liar. exeuctive order restricting drilling withn the first 5 days.
Over all leadership; “f-”
Over all grade: “f”

Don’t get so upset we are all trying to get out of the mess and it will take time. Our hurrying into stuff has not served us to well lately I think getting our feet under us and moving forward is OK at this stage I didn’t see it happen over night and I won’t see progress over night either.

Posted by: Bonnie Kimberly | February 23, 2009, 5:37 pm 5:37 pm

I would give him an A-. He is not perfect, but he working very hard to keep the promises he made. President Obama is a very intelligent man and he seems to have a good sense of balance. These two things don’t always walk hand in hand, but it appears he has been blessed with both.

Posted by: Sharonkatheen | February 23, 2009, 5:41 pm 5:41 pm

To all of you who are griping, moaning and groaning, how far would you have come in the first month of a new job if you’d stepped into the pile of elephant manure left by the previous administration? 2 wars; a bailout rammed through Congress by the previous administration’s Treasury Secretary who’d led his previous employer off the cliff but still collected a multi-million dollar golden parachute and who made sure the recipients of TARP would have little or no accountability for their use of the funds; and a bunch of GOP Senators and Representatives whose noses are so far out of joint that the only mantra they can comfort themselves with is obstruct, obstruct, obstruct.

An “L” for professional liar.

Posted by: No Compromise | February 23, 2009, 5:57 pm 5:57 pm

And Deb, you represent such spectacular insight whenever you point fingers at whites, accusing us of racism whenever it happens to be your own who have, and continue to receive the majority of welfare. Perhaps you should consider the source of all the freebies your people receive. It is certainly not the white kids who receive free college grants, free housing, only to name a couple. Don’t hate us because your half black president is destroying our country. Not all of us were naive enough to fall for his lies.

Posted by: No Compromise | February 23, 2009, 6:03 pm 6:03 pm

B – If this was any ordinary time.
A – Because of his performance and sheer volume of things accomplished in such a short time frame, especially while under one of the worst sets of concurrent “crises” facing any other President at the beginning of their term.

Posted by: Tom | February 23, 2009, 6:17 pm 6:17 pm

A- At least he is trying to reach accross. More than I can say for the GOP.

Posted by: P | February 23, 2009, 6:38 pm 6:38 pm

Grade: F. This Administration is a disaster. Too many broken promises, numerous lies, and further… It is a downward spiral into socialism that is destroying our sovereignty, the idea of a true democratic republic, our fundamental freedoms, and the free market as a whole. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Feinstein, and Frank are dangerous to these United States. Haven’t any of you Flavor Aid-drinking fools read “Atlas Shrugged?” These are very scary times. I fear for my country!!!

D – I don’t think he has done a good job in easing the troubles from the last administration. Yes, these are extraordinary times —- but I have not felt that the government has been very together in tackling this issue. Disappointing.

have to repeat the course and no one wants that!

Posted by: spacerook1 | February 23, 2009, 6:45 pm 6:45 pm

Obama gets an A.
No president in my lifetime has accomplished so much in so short a time with so much on his plate.
He has a lot of work ahead to overcome the steaming pile left in the White House by the former occupant and his gang.
Obama is taking the high road, even as his enemies are taking the low road, and getting lower every day.
The nation needs to get back on track and Obama is leading the way – despite the petulant, obstinate, partisan Republicans who put their party over people.

Posted by: Bob | February 23, 2009, 6:45 pm 6:45 pm

B- I understand he is trying to really separate himself from the last administration, but I find his comments in response to Republicans to be extremely condescending and arrogant. I also really question the stimulus. Where are we going to get the money AND cut taxes to pay for the stimulus? There’s still way too much pork. Make that B- a C+.

Posted by: Leigh | February 23, 2009, 6:45 pm 6:45 pm

Finally, someone is going to try and fix the budget defecit and cut spending.I would pay more in taxes if I knew it was going to specifically go to reducing the deficit. But, I don’t trust the Congress.

I give President Obama an A. It’s clear that his administration is taking great steps to steer this country (i.e., the economy) into the right direction.

Posted by: Michelle | February 23, 2009, 6:46 pm 6:46 pm

I think he is doing a very good job, given the fact that the Bush administration left him with a perfect storm, er mess. Today, I learned that 10 more people at my husband’s manufacturing facility are going to have to be laid off. The stimulus package can’t come soon enough.

Posted by: Renee | February 23, 2009, 6:46 pm 6:46 pm

A he’s holding the optimism through this tough time. He’s positive, moving ahead, reaching out, and regularly stops to remind us that it’s not supposed to be easy. He has a plan, and moving forward. It would be wrong to judge harshly so soon.

Let’s give this administration a chance. We had 8 long years of Bush. As the saying goes Rome was not built in a day. I give President Obama a B+. He is not perfect, but also remember that there are many men and women under President Obama that are responsible also.

Posted by: MsLibby | February 23, 2009, 6:47 pm 6:47 pm

I’d give him a 97%. He’s making a tremendous effort to include members of both parties and to consult with governors, etc. Total opposite from the past president who made every decision based only on consulting with Cheney.
He’s just been there a few weeks. Give him his eight years and you’ll see an unbelieveably better country.

Posted by: Jean | February 23, 2009, 6:47 pm 6:47 pm

Grade A. We’ve tried Republican strategies under Bush which failed miserably. President Obama must be given a chance to try his own strategies, not something that Republicans have already tried. That’s why the public voted for Obama over McCain.
As for the issues about pork and overspending, that depends on an individual’s viewpoint. If it’s an important project for a Republican state, that state’s congressmen wouldn’t call it pork.

Posted by: Yiu Wai Chan | February 23, 2009, 6:47 pm 6:47 pm

At first I would have rated the President an A- but when I got the phone call from my dad who worked for Chrysler for 43 years was going to loose some of the benefits that he worked so hard to get. First he lost his life insurance.. Nice how can he get insured now at his age and health with the amount he had before? Now they are taking away his company vehicle. Yes some may say that these execs were living high on the hog but that is not true for all of them. My father worked hard those 43 years starting in clay modeling and working his way up. Ya now that he is not in the union he can be screwed by the govt. and nothing can be done about it. I am sad for him. He doesn’t live off of much and now has so much more to worry about. Gee should I get him an application for Walmart?
Grade now C-….. Sorry President Obama family comes first.

Posted by: Gen | February 23, 2009, 6:48 pm 6:48 pm

President Obama has been seen more by the american people and he has been honest enough that he wants all of us to know what is going on in his administration, We have seen more of President Obama in a month than we did in the 8 years of Bush/Cheney!….We even saw the Vice President with President Obama,,,,how many times did you ever see Vice President Cheney and Bush give speeches together!

Posted by: Pegi | February 23, 2009, 6:48 pm 6:48 pm

Its early, but I’m not impressed. The market is not responding to him. I’m looking for a job and there’s nothing much out there. Businesses are not adding jobs not even at a rate of last year. I’ve been looking for 10 months and I’m afraid it not going to get better anytime soon. I don’t want any more speeches.

A-
Pres. Obama was handed a bad economy from the start and he is trying to turn things around as fast as possible. The GOP needs to get it together before the hired help in there homes start stealing to survive while they are on the “Hill”.

Posted by: edg104 | February 23, 2009, 6:48 pm 6:48 pm

A – for sure.
No one would want to walk into the mess left behind by an true ediot. Obama is not a miracle-maker. He’s a real person trying to do a “un-real” job. Not every decision is going to be agreed upon by all, but overall, he has started his term with a real bang. I believe he will soar as time goes by. I, for one, am thrilled to have him as our President.

Ignoring the cripling partisan politics, ethnic bias and racist views held by too many ignorant citizens, I laud Barack Obama, his vision, his clarity and his earnest desire to do what is good for America and not the priviledged, the special interests nor those for whom the sky keeps falling at every turn. And I’m not even a Democrat, liberal or otherwise

Posted by: itsabouttime | February 23, 2009, 6:48 pm 6:48 pm

A+ all the way!!! Major steps forward. Let’s not even compare to prior administration or GOP; it isn’t fair to former administration or GOP: they were inept, aloof, inhumane, blinded by ideologies, egocentric, driven to vengeance. New challenges, new strategies. Adapt or perish (it’s not dramatic; it’s survival).

He has not lead anything in the past and it is showing now. I know so many people saying “I may have made a mistake in voting”!! I am not sure who is controling this puppet but we are headed to “Socialism”!!! He get’s a great big F—-

Posted by: Jerry Pickler | February 23, 2009, 6:50 pm 6:50 pm

I give Obama a A for stepping up to a plate which the past administration left in a MESS! It will be a daunting task, and for those politicians and naysayers of doom, where the hell were you when the economy was crumbling for the last 8 years? I give the partisan divisive tactics of the past a F as usual, it is so common, such as McCain asking about a Helicopter, has he not learned anything yet? Homes, planes, automobiles? Gov. on the right hypocrites on taking this stimulus package. So yes an A for achieving a most difficult feat, cleaning up behind Bush and company!!

Posted by: Karen Walls | February 23, 2009, 6:50 pm 6:50 pm

I think President Obama is doing a wonderful job. He has quite a job ahead of him, he has alot of cleaning up to do.

Posted by: Catherine | February 23, 2009, 6:50 pm 6:50 pm

Obama gets an A. He is keeping his campaign promises. We actually get to see the man WORK. After 8 years of wondering just who was in charge, this is great. Obama has done more for the average American in 30 days than the last administration did in 8 years. He has the Bush mess to clean up while he still has to deal with obstructionist Republicans who have nothing to contribute but more tax cuts.

Posted by: lynne | February 23, 2009, 6:50 pm 6:50 pm

I would give President Obama straight A’s & I’m a teacher (Honors & AP Senior HS English). Despite all of our country’s problems & the world’s crises, he has given us the greatest gift of all – hope, as well as an alternative to the Republican policies that have almost destroyed out nation.

After almost two years of campaigning,
and hearing “CHANGE” constantly, we
would like to know when President Obama

Needless flights on Air Force One are
just that. . .needless. He visited

Please get down to serious issues, Mr.

F–Obama is pushing us deeper and deeper into another Depression. He is making the problem even worse–just like FDR did in 1933. This won’t be a quick 12-16 month recession, but a 10 year recession because of his efforts to “fix” the problem. It will be our lost decade just like in Japan due to leftist efforts to “stimulate” the economy. All the stimulus has done is spend on programs that they care about. Billions to ACORN? Give me a break! Obama has also appointed a bunch of tax cheats, I have to give him a “F.”

F-So far he has used rhetoric to avoid tough questions and has ignored the campaign promises of “transparency” because he does not have the luxury of time. He claims he is going to pay for programs by withdrawing from Iraq, but is actually sending increasing numbers of troops to Afghanistan. Obama has fooled a large portion of America. Hopefully, they wake up before we give away our homeland.

Posted by: Nada | February 23, 2009, 6:51 pm 6:51 pm

I would give President Obama a “B”, he inherited a mess, it’s going to take more than a month to straighten out 8 years of disaster. My hope is that the Republican would stop all if this bickering, whether you are Democrat or Repbublican, we are all Americans first. Republicans has always said Country First, well we in this country is facing a disaster, instead of all of these negative sound bytes, everyone should be trying to work together for everyone.

I give him a “D” for being deceitful. Listen very very closely to what he says, or better yet, what he’s not really saying. My bumper sticker reads “Beware America, You’ve Been Deceived!”

Posted by: Leslie | February 23, 2009, 6:52 pm 6:52 pm

I give him an A- and Congress a C. He’s only been in a month & trust me by all means, this is an 8 year journey to overturn Bush Administration errors.
If you move in a house that has 1 million dollars in needed repairs & you only have $125,000 a year to fix the house then patience will be needed to reach that 8 year plateau.

Posted by: John J. | February 23, 2009, 6:52 pm 6:52 pm

Weak C, but he’s doing the things he promised during the primaries. His only agenda item being fulfilled during the general election rhetoric is spreading it around. But then, I don’t believe in the liberal-socialist agenda.

Posted by: Rodney | February 23, 2009, 6:52 pm 6:52 pm

I give him an A. He has accomplished more in one month than any other president since FDR. He’s trying to change the tone and work with the GOP who are being real obstructionists. Today’s meeting with them is another step forward and further proof that he is willing to listen to any good idea and work with Republicans. If the Republicans continue being the party of NO, I believe that they will become an irrelevant regional party and that there may be an opening for a new political party to emerge.
We have many problems created by 8 years of the most incompetent president in my 50 years on this earth. Having President Obama as our leader instills confidence for the future, and that we will eventually get out of this mess. It won’t be easy, but we can do it. He is the right leader for these times.

Posted by: Millie | February 23, 2009, 6:53 pm 6:53 pm

Of course Obama got high ratings, you report him positively each night.
He has a tax cheat in his cabinet, a lobbyist working for him, and he rewards the irresponsible.
Those of us who have played by the rules by paying our taxes, paying the mortgages on houses that we could actially afford and saving before we purchased big ticket items now get to pay for all this and get no reward.
I give Obama a D-.

These crooks he appointed to the Cabinet positions show how he overlooks tax cheats and where is the web site that he promised that would allow ” Americans” the ability to read and give their opinion on these spending “Bills”/

I find it hard to believe that this stimulus package is going to help the hands of america. My brother and I both lost our jobs. We almost lost our house that our family lives in. Thanks to Godly people in our nearby churches that had taken care of us. We have not gotten any other help to keep bills paid or to help us get our jobs back.

This is obscene. Even in elementary school, grades don’t come out for 6 weeks.
Clearly this is just another small attempt by the corporate media to keep people all riled up over nothing so that they keep coming to this website and selling advertising. Cha-ching, it worked and I’m here.
As for Obama, all I can say is that he wasn’t given much to work with. My problem with Obama is that he is still letting the Republicans and the corporate media frame the debate. His language isn’t nearly strong enough.
George W. Bush said he had political capital and he was “going to spend it.” Obama actually does have political capital, and rather than spend it, he is investing it.

I did NOT vote for POTUS 44. I was not a stalwart supporter, but I am immensely impressed and intrigued by this man. He is extremely disciplined. He has a refreshing commitment to statesmanship and personal accountability. I want him to succeed. We need him to succeed.
I do not agree with many of his principles, nevertheless, he is smart, bold, inclusive and willing to listen to ideas from other than his team. He has earned my support.

President Obama gets an A- plus. He is faced with difficulties that supersede those faced by any president in my lifetime. I find myself wondering if the Union will survive the ‘meltdown’ we are experiencing? I can only hope and pray the President came lead the way, as our last President was so hopelessly lost.

Posted by: Gregory C. | February 23, 2009, 6:53 pm 6:53 pm

F-I’ve seen nothing but broken promises and Obama and the democrats ramming their agenda down everyone’s throats without a second thought. His claims of bipartisanship are a joke. His financial policy is a disaster and we should all be trembling at the promise of a socialistic society. I hope our country can survive 4 years of this kind of leadership. Our founding fathers are surly rolling over in their graves.

Posted by: L | February 23, 2009, 6:54 pm 6:54 pm

Wow. When I read the posted comments I’m shocked. Stop the racist talk, that’s B.S. 8 years of disastrous leadership, we’re in a 500 car pile-up and we hand the keys to Obama to get us out of this mess. You’re complaining? It has not been a perfect 1st month, but very very good work is in progress. A- to President Obama.

Posted by: Lisa B in Berea | February 23, 2009, 6:54 pm 6:54 pm

I would give him an A-. What a disaster the last administration left this man. I have to give almost all the Republicans a D-. Instead of trying to campaign all the time, why don’t you listen to the people for a change. We want relief and the really smart people (economists…) say what President Obama is doing will help. And frankly if those people in the states of the republican governors who don’t want the stimulus money re-elect these politically motivated, self-serving talking heads then they (the people, not the politicians) will suffer for it – but don’t you dare blame the President. Ha-ha fat chance. I just don’t get it.

Throwing money at the problem did not work with Bush and throwing money at the problem won’t work now especially when it is being thrown around to anyone who wants it….

“doer” & we will all benefit from his aggressive methods.

Posted by: Marguerite | February 23, 2009, 6:54 pm 6:54 pm

I would rate Obama and his first month in office as very unprofessional. His choice of cabinet members, the way he rushed through the “pork-filled” trillion dollar spending bill which no one had read and the way he says one thing and then does something different. I would give him an “F-” I just hope we have a country left by the time we get to the 2010 elections.

Posted by: Jerry | February 23, 2009, 6:54 pm 6:54 pm

I would give him and A+. He is doing a GREAT job and is displaying all the signs of change, instead of the same old ploitical ways that got us into this mess in the first place. No more double standards! Maybe this will set examples for the rest of the world. Double standards should not exist.

has he made a single decision or signed a single bill that has made a single improvement in our economy? the answer is a resounding no. if you want to know what the people who make this economy strong think about his talk, plans and decisions just look at the stock market. these are the people who provide jobs and a future for our country, not government, and all they have to say about his performance to date is that it sucks. my rating is an F

Posted by: steve | February 23, 2009, 6:55 pm 6:55 pm

I give him an “A”, based on the activity level of this administration. I don’t believe that in all my adult years (65), I have ever seen a group work so fast and furious, even before taking office. If this is any indicator of the next 4 years, I know the American voter will have gotten their money’s worth.
As a GOP voter for 42 yrs., I am very happy with my ’08 vote for Obama.

I strongly agree with Tom’s and Linda’s posts (above). Most new Presidents are still planning their White House staffs in the first month.
Considering the horrendous mess that he inherited and the dramatic movement in a positive direction in only 30 days – and on so many different issues, he is doing a tremendous job, despite being met with partisan obstructionists.
I, for one, am behind him 100%.

I will now pay more taxes thanks to Obama’s buddy Devol. In MA,we will soon pay MORE tax on gas, candy, and beer. With the condition this country is in isn’t it time to stop the party wars? Isn’t it more important to get the country back on track? President Obama is trying his best to take a very bad situation and make it work. Why are many of the Republicans, who got us to this point by the way, not trying their damndest to help to fix the problems? Republican Governers are saying they won’t take the money??? We the people had better let all of the politicians know that we are not happy with the nonsense. Get it fixed or leave!! By the way I give him an A-. All he’s doing is rewarding people for being stupid. We’ve had to pay our own debt why shouldn’t everyone else. If you can’t pay for what you have or want don’t get it. It’s not everyone else’s business to bail you out. Get a JOB. As for Obama Thank God I didn’t vote for him cause he’s going to be the end of this country as we know it. Goodbye freedom it was great while it lasted. So Obama is an “F-”

And an A+ for keeping the public informed.

Isn’t there anything they can agree upon??? Work with our President! For the Republicans to succeed, we all have to fail. Is that what they want?

Posted by: Whit | February 23, 2009, 6:58 pm 6:58 pm

If you talk about Obama having a strong month in office in the sense that he had a bill he supported passed, then yes.
If you’re talking about a month where he actually did something good for the economy, then no. Don’t get me wrong, I honestly believe that anyone who runs for president means well for the country. I believed that of Bush, and I believe the same thing of Obama.
However, Obama promised change and we’re getting more of the same. Bush was notorious for senseless spending, (though he may not have been directly responsible, it sure didn’t help our economy). The stimulus bill proposes to fix the economy (which is in the state it’s in because of senseless spending) with more senseless spending.
What changed here, other than the faces?

“There should never be any polls about President Obama. The results will always be false do to all whites and their inherit racism.”
Deb,
I always hate this argument. All whites are not racist!!!!!!! Who makes Oprah number one? Who made Michael Jackson number one? Doesn’t every white kid dream of being the next Michael Jordan, Shaq, Randy Moss, etc., etc. How many black kids have white posters up in their bedrooms? We have a ways to go in this country, but most whites don’t see in black and white…we see in red, white, and blue!If we don’t believe in Obama’s policies we are automatically racist? No, we disagree with him because we don’t like the direction we are taking the nation!

An A. I can’t believe how much he’s been able to do in one short month. Some of the accomplishments might rate a B in ordinary times (?) but the opposition has been enormous. There are people who’d rather see the country sink than Obama succeed…and they LOVE to post comments online.

Posted by: Sharon Lynn Farley | February 23, 2009, 7:00 pm 7:00 pm

It’s important to remember that President Obama has repeatedly said that it’s not about him , it’s about us. I continue to feel that he is our leader for this time and support him. I give the opposition a D- for looking the other way. I give the press an F for continuing to press for cynicsm and and doubt from the public when there is an opportunity to educate us on the problems ahead. And what I see locally is worry that we won’t get it, we won’t figure it out in America. But also, an effort on the part of my neighbor’s to figure out how we can contribute, how we can be better Americans. Not what’s in it for us. And the bankers and wall street traitors can go to jail as far as I’m concerned.

F-
Spending bill is a joke. No national banks. Why did we bail out banks and other ompanies when we have such a large defecit? What will happen to the home owners who can’t pay their monthly payment? Why are we allowing credit card companies to bilk millions of late charges, over limit fees. When you ask for help, you get a huge runaround. Why are our children, and grandchildren going to pay for the democrat spending bill? A trillion dollars spent ,for what.
Why was this bill passed without the house, and sentate members having time to read it before voting. Our president thinks highly of A. Lincoln. I think Lincoln would think Obama and the democratic party is a joke
Frustrated, and scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is doing the best that he can with what he has to work with at this time. He is compassionate and caring and isn’t in this just for his EGO. (GWB) It is not going to be overnight to get things back on track. Patience is a virtue, we didn’t get in this mess overnight, so chill out. Love one another and help each other as much as we can. Stop Judging others. Peace.

A+, I am very happy with the progress the president has made. It is too bad that the “cable chatter” reflects the opinion of the few. We need to instill confidence. The president is doing that in the town hall meetings. I sincerely hope our republican friends drop the politics; roll up their sleeves and give a hand.

Posted by: jim | February 23, 2009, 7:00 pm 7:00 pm

No compromise… keep race out of it. yes it’s a factor but you should not forget that there are people out there who still believe it’s the only factor and will use it as a ploy to get away from the real issues.
Obama has done exactly what every other President has done to this point. Nothing spectacular and nothing that he has specifically said he would.
Some have said he put the plan in place to withdraw troops. no no he hasn’t the senate has. he just put the idea out there.
everyone uses the president as a crutch.
Liberals use him when he does well and blames everyone else when he does poorly
Conservatives use him when he does poorly and use everyone else when he does well.
It’s a group effort which is why his policies for bipartisanship and anti-porkbarrel policies will not work.
So far What the president has promised ,just as everyone else has, nothing that can be achieved. Spending more money to fix a lack of money problem just doesn’t make sense especially because… we don’t have the money to spend.
The first bill he passed was a way to sue your employer for discrimination (as if it wasn’t easy enough)
With all due respect President Obama… no… just no…

Posted by: Right. | February 23, 2009, 7:00 pm 7:00 pm

I give the president an “A” for dealing with this country of whiners, who expect “instant gratification”. Another “A” for dealing with Republications who have forgotten that they are public servants. We did not them to washington to further their careers and to lay the foundation to feather their pockets.

Just answer that question honestly and then what exactly would you do to fix the mess left to the new President. God speed to him…I give him an A+, I don’t believe the poor man had any idea how bad a mess he was inheriting. And people like Steve think that he is wrong after 4 weeks…I know where Steve is coming from.

A+ for Obama. Total opposite of the past 8 years of secrecy, lies and turning backs on anyone that isn’t kissing butt. Bob states the truth. The GOP sends me letters daily making fun of Obama and telling me not to back anything he says or does. This is not country first, but party first. We need the moderates on both sides to show everyone else how to behave like adults and many of you that complain and only look for the negative, you need to be more honest and respectful. Neither party is perfect and we the people are not perfect either… so lets start working on making our “country first” and not party rhetoric.

I give President Obama A-plus. I just
don’t see how he could do any better than he has been doing, given that Wall
Street and the GOP refuse to cooperate
with the Administration on general principles (or on racist principles?).
President Obama inherited a total mess,
but he’s waded right into it “full steam
ahead, damn the torpedoes”. His worst
problem is that most of us didn’t pay
attention to what appallingly corrupt
and irresponsible government we had for the past eight years, and now that we’re
rid of it (which makes the case for term
limits), we’re just waking up to OUR
negligence and looking for someone to
blame. The president should not be
that person. He needs everyone’s help,
and he deserves it.

He is attempting solutions to MASSIVE PROBLEMS that he INHERITED: 8 years of Bush & laissez-faire economics, Bush & Republican faith in supply side economics, tax cuts for the richest Americans/borrowing to finance 2 wars, a general public attitude of “charge-it-now-pay-later”, Wall Street’s excesses. The list goes on and on.

President Obama has made a lot happen in his short time in office. He is focused on serving the people and not the party, which is the way every holder of public office should operate. Is it just me, or does it seem like the banks, big business, and every Tom, Richard and Harry have their hands out for “free money” from the Government lately. Let’s not forget who the “Government” is folks…It’s you and me. We’re paying the bills and salaries. Obama gets a ‘A’ for intent, ‘B’ for effort and ‘D’ for execution. If the GOP insists on playing the poor, hurt misunderstood loosers, to heck with them. They had their chance with that financial genius Bush. I cannot understand why every politician for whom we are paying a handsome salary with untold perks, is not standing on every Congressional bench screaming for getting the American economy re-ingited. And if the US Car makers can’t make it, so sad too bad, that’s what we call capitalism. This is not the time for businesses to rid themselves of their obligations, their pension plans, their unions, and their workers just so their share-holders can keep their profits and their CEOs can keep making obscene salaries. Speak out America – hold your politicians accountable as they blow your tax dollars hourly. Speaking of pork in the stimulus package, just look at the last 8 years or the congressional earmarks. Since the 500 plus members of congress are not going to make the hard decisions, don’t blame Obama for at least trying. How about giving him some support rather than continous grief. Are you listening McCain?

One of the biggest things he has tried to do something about is helping those who did things the right way when buying a house, like me (bought what I could afford, obtained a 30 year fixed rate mortgage, and paid at least the amount due on-time every month). Now, my house has lost so much in value that I owe more than the home is worth and, because I was laid-off four months ago, I am struggling to make the mortgage payment. I am hoping the new plan will provide some relief, but since I had no contact with Fannie Mae or Fredding Mac it’s not likely (according to my bank).
Also, it’s refreshing to be able to watch the President of the United States speak so eloquently to all audiences.

A- He came into a horrible mess and he has done more in one month than most presidents do in six months. Let’s give him a year and see how things shake out. Nothing will be solved in a month.

Posted by: Jude | February 23, 2009, 7:09 pm 7:09 pm

A.In one month President Obama has STARTED undoing the lack of leadership in the last eight years . It will take more than one month to undo that. At least he is out in front of all of America. With idea’s , whereas the GOP only looks for faults . Thats how we got in this mess in the first place.

Posted by: steve | February 23, 2009, 7:10 pm 7:10 pm

I give him an F.
1. Stimulus bill is filled with Pork
ie. rollback of requiring Welfare recipents to work, money for ACORN, marsh mouse in San Francisco etc. Our children and grandchildren will be paying for this.
2. Housing Proposal in which taxpayers bail out those in foreclosure especially in 5 states-California, Nevada, Arizona, Florida and Michigan- the first 4 states are the highest in illegal immigrants- so how many illegal immigrants with mortgages are we bailing out. Once again, ACORN will lead the way.
3. Tax cheats in his cabinet- they knew what they were doing in fact Daschle did not pay his taxes until this Jan after he was nominated for office.
4.Energy proposals will actually increase many costs to consumers.
5. Always talking about “Crisis” Bill Clinton is correct- the President needs to speak more positively.
6. Stock Market down almost 1500 points since Jan 20, 2009. The middle class who saved for retirement are losing everything. Every time he announces an economic policy the market sinks.

Posted by: Mary | February 23, 2009, 7:10 pm 7:10 pm

A- is the grade I would give President Obama’s efforts during his first 30 days in office. Rome was not built in a day and the damage done to the economy cannot be solved in a short period of time. The president is finding his footing, he’s asking questions, he might stumble, but he listens, he gets up, dusts himself off and keeps going on behalf of his fellow citizens.

Something is wrong when more than half of Americans not only don’t pay ANY Federal taxes (don’t give me the BS that they do pay taxes, even if they don’t work and haven’t worked for years), but get a $1500 tax refund for sitting on their butts. Who in the h*** do you lazy bums think is going to keep paying into a system that supports people who only want to support a president and a government who will fill their hands with “free” money. This country is in a lot of trouble, and the freeloaders are beginning to outnumber the people willing to work for a living. I am seriously worried about where this country is heading.
O-BUM-a and his buddies get a resounding F!

Posted by: Twj | February 23, 2009, 7:12 pm 7:12 pm

It’s obvious that for the first time in 8 years we have a man at the helm that cares about the country and its people. I can only hope the Republicans stop the annoying political maneuvers to impede progress. Republican Governors refusing Stimulus money are certainly not looking out for their constituents. Republican Congress and Senate members acting along those lines will soon be cast aside and the promise of non-partisanism will be a thing of the past … again!

Now I know why I don’t read many blogs. Try, just try, to put aside Limbaugh-speak, Gingrich-think, revisionism, and all of the other foolishness. Give this some time. We certainly must get away from catchphrases and on to real problem solving, or we are doomed. NONE OF US know what will work, but things must be at least tried. Obama is the President, like him or not. Come together. Work together.

I do not trust President “O”- Obama. He has not been truthful in the past or present, and I do not think he has any intentions of demonstrating true integrity in the future. He is a real disapointment. He has no true Executive experience and has surrounded himself with nothing but past disapointments.

I think he has done a masterful job at assessing the problems and putting into place the most informed minds on the state of the economy, and he has matched the problems with adequate funds to target the root causes of our economic decline while helping those most affected by it. I don’t expect perfection, but I think he has performed rather well.

What is really needed is for the independents who voted for Obama and the Reublicans who stayed home because they did not like McCain to vote in 2010 and 2012 for Conservative Republicans, who will restore sense to our country and the world economy! Please Independents and fellow Republicans, have we not seen enough already? Don’t blame me, I voted for Palin! It’s time for CHANGE again!

Ask those who work for a living how Obama’s doing? Not those living on government assistance…I pay for all that. How’s the market, my retirement and yours? Seems it’s not doing too well. How secure is your job? There have been lots of layoffs since he took office. Oh wait…that is the predecessor’s fault. You’re right, it is. Where are our jobs? Mexico, Cananda, perhaps. Yes, let’s see…I believe they called it NAFTA. They said it was good for America. Yep, it’s been good alright. Can’t blame Bush for that one. We can blame Bush’s predecessor for this ecomonic situation. It didn’t happen in only 8 years. This has been coming for a long time.

Overall grade – F
Passing the larger bill in history, filled with Democratic Pork, Socialist agenda that Pelosi and Reid have wanted for years. The bill that had to be passed immediately to save the country but no one was given the time to read it so the Democratic fools in Congress followed President Pelosi’s orders and signed it sight on seen. Now rampant inflation will follow. Grade “F”

I believe President Obama is doing an A+ job given the shoes he’s had to step into. This man is working very hard to keep Integrity, Dignity, and Honesty a high priority and it is visible how he is improving the attitudes in the extremely corrupted government that we have been unfortunate to have bestowed on us from prior elections. For anyone, black or white, to keep bringing up the issue of “race” is only diminishing the positive actions and attitudes of others who are black and white who don’t see color as an issue. That topic is “old”, and with all that has happened within those years leading up to now to bring us all to the point we all have come to in the past month proves that people are moving on. If we could all just see a human being instead of color, we would be doing exactly what Lincoln, Martin Luther King and President Obama are all in this world for. Equality. Integrity. Dignity. Honesty. An intelligence so many of us take have and take for granted. I enjoy watching Obama because he has Intelligence. He is well worth all of our time if given the chance. Once again, he gets an A+.

America needs to remember that out of the last 28 years we have spent 20 years of that under republican Presidents. Some of the hardest economic times in recent history, as what we our in now, a result of G.W.Bush. The President we have now has inherited a broke, abused, beaten and mis managed house. It won’t be repaired over nite, in a week, month, or a year, but a least we have a man who is working harder than any other President in recent history. In my opinion he is my generations J.F.K. He hit the ground running right after the election, unlike Bush who was asleep at the wheel the last eight years

I read your post and can only think you and peo-ple like you are the true problem with this country. If you give Obama an “F” for trying to cooperate with Republicans, why should he try? Remember the bail out bill supported by Bush and McCain? Now Obama has one to generate jobs and you complain. Why, because it’s a Democrat who thought of it? Grow up!

1) Force lenders to convert ARMs to 30-year Fixed Rate at Prime. Make ARMs illegal or cap them at Prime + 2% or 6% fixed, whichever is lowest. If anyone defaults after that, tough.
2) Get rid of mark to market asset evaluation for lenders.
3) Give over an appropriate portion (48%) of the porkulous bill to be used as the minority party sees fit and see whose works best.
4) Reduce the deficet by growing the economy and reducing government spending, not by allowing tax cuts to expire. Reducing taxes has ALWAYS stimulated the economy, even the Kenn3dy administration knew this fact and used it to thier advantage.
Otherwise I rate Obama a D.

Posted by: geaugatruck | February 23, 2009, 7:17 pm 7:17 pm

D
He has set the precidence that if you do not pay your bills – someone, namely the government – will bail you out. I personally am angered by this as I am a single woman working hard EVERY DAY to pay my bills on time and be responsible. How can one rationally explain a combined income of $40,000 trying to live in a $300,000 home – live within your means people. It’s not rocket science.
That stimulas package – what a joke – there is minimal creation of jobs in this proposal – it’s “money fluff” to help a great deal of special interest groups, and help to those who have already been irresponsible with the spending/disbursement of money. Kids learn early on that if you play with fire you get burnt – what happened to adults learning this lesson?
You think our economy is bad now – wait until the end of his first term. Time will show that the stimulus package will have been a HUGH mistake. Obama thinks he can cut the deficit by half…pay attention to what he is saying – there are goals that have to be achieved in order for this to occur (ie Iraq war ending at deadline)and…..those goals are out of reach. We haven’t met any goal on the Iraq war to date – what makes you think it will start now. Banks are going to be run by government. Socialization will be upon us.
The future of America is looking very grave.

A-It has only been a month and our president is working harder to help the citizens of this country then any other president has ever done in their first month. Obama won the election, he is now our president, unfortunately many republicans refuse to accept this and are fighting him (or just verbally lashing him). We should all be working with him and giving him the chance to get us out of this mess.We could accomplish alot together, but the republicans want to keep the country divided to try and prove their point.I don’t know about any one else, but I am at a point in my life where any change for me would be better. So lets give a new approach a chance to work, the old approach certainly destroyed us. Stop being so hateful and fearful of change, give it all a chance to flow.

Posted by: Independent Gal | February 23, 2009, 7:18 pm 7:18 pm

D – The only thing that keeps him from getting an “F” is the effort he puts into communication.
Stimulus package – F – no leadership, no control – excessive pork – neither timely, nor limited in duration
Change in appointments – F – too many don’t pay their taxes – no excuse!
Bipartisanship – F – nice show, no substance! A visit is not the same as meaningful input or buy-in
Leadership – F – just today, he announced VP Biden would be in charge of the govt stimulus package. The DOW dropped 100 points within minutes. He is not fooling the people with the money to drive the engine of our economy. I hope he wakes up.

President Obama is doing a great job so far. He cares about what happens to the regular people instead of 8 years pampering to the wealthy. I am very excited about our new president and I am praying for him everyday. It will take time and he will pull us out of this mess.

When it comes to the stimulis package I have to give the President an F. We teach our children not to sign any legal documents without having read and understood what is in them. I would like to know if ANYONE was given the time to read and understand the stimulis package that was signed and passed. I believe in leading by example. What possitive example has our President just given us?
People are upset at “the way the stimulis package was pushed through”. What happened to the 48 hour time period Congress promised everyone they would have to read and digest the package? I believe Ms. Pelosi could have delayed her “VACATION” a few days in order for everyone to be given the chance to read the bill. The way it was done seems that a lot of personal and pet projects were allowed to be hidden in the document and passed without opposition. I was looking forward a more bi-partisan working relationship between the parties, but when one party deliberately shuts out the other it’s not going to happen. The election is over!!!! Can we not play nice with each other for the good of ALL Americans and the futher of our country?????

Posted by: Pam | February 23, 2009, 7:23 pm 7:23 pm

If you are trying to grade him after literally 30 days on the job, you are an idiot.
We used to grade someone by the results of their performance. Now we grade their performance by our personal feelings.
Or whatever hate-spew is exploding out of Rush Limbaugh’s Krakatoa mouth.
And that is the result of 8 years of Republicans tearing this nation at the seams.

Quit blaming Bush for what is clearly fault of the Democrats, especially the likes of Frank, Pelosi, and Reid, who have been in charge since 2006. Bush had 6 years of great prosperity until these Democrats took over in 2006. You cannot argue with this truth. Now since Obama has taken over this have only gotten much worse!
Obama and Democrats get an F!

He has earned an “A”. The reason for this is that aside from him starting a job two months before he was too start, he has accomplished much in three months. Every winner starts early. As a result, he has sold the economic stimulus to the American public. Hence, the congress has passed the plan at the WILL of the American people. That has not not occurred since 1776. Moreover, President Obama dosn’t focus on the propaganda and political games. I appreciate the transparency of everything, by placing everything on the internet. Hence, he is focused the federal government on the needs of the average american; such as cracking down on child trafficing in the US. His efforts to strengthen the average american’s economic and health status will make Americans stronger, and increase our production and growth. I am so happy that the president is focused on resolving the problems instead of ignoring them, or focusing on Lobbyist intersts. He has EARNed an “A”, inspite of all the critics and pundits who actually caused the problem. I am sadned by the republicans willingness to sacrifice our needs to satisfy their coporate intersts. Though, at one time I beleived in the republican progranda, their actions have resulted in scandle, lies, unpunished criminality, and lack of empathy for the people that voted republicans into office 16 years ago. Regretably, history and our economic circumstance has proven that our vote for has crippled our famlies; diluted our childrens education funds, and reduced the values of our homes leaving many of us with enormous debt and negative equity. As such,we had to vote for Obama. to save the downslide of America. He was the only honest average american in politics. Thus far, with every day and every action, he continues to give me great confidence in him and enormous hope. He has earned an “A”.

I can’t beleive the postings that I am reading! It is really sad at the people that we have living here in the United States. You all want him to fail so bad that you can’t accept the fact of the possible good that will or might come out of this. You all can’t accept the fact that this is an intelligent Black Man that is trying to make things better for EVERYONE. Hell, I give this man a chance, he can’t mess this up no worse than they all ready are!

In only two months:
$800,000,000,000.00 in additional debt…
A set of policies that will bring back the worst of welfare…
A totally wasteful spending bill that will create few, if any jobs, much less probably ) “real” jobs…
Plans to release the worst of the worst terrorists from Gitmo back into the wild so they can kill more of us…
A weak leader who gave the so-called stimulus package to Pelosi and Reid, the real President and Vice-President…
Hired a bunch of lawbreakers. lobbyists, and leftovers for his cabinet (so much for “transparency” and “change” in his administration)…
He’s a old school tax and spend liberal, buying votes with government largesse; nothing new here people, move along…

This is the first time in many years I feel like there is someone in Washington who is actually listening to what I say. For the first time in a long time, I feel like my opinion counts. In his ability to lie and deceive the American public, I’d give him an A.
On what he’s actually done- F. I thought we had a financial crisis – I guess not enough to keep from sending American tax dollars around the world to pay for abortions. The stimulus bill is a joke. His press conference was lie after lie as he droned on and on ad nauseum taking questions from “friendly” press who challenged him on nothing. My favorite lie so far (although there are so many now) is that there is NOT ONE SINGLE EARMARK in the stimulus package. Too bad we have an American public asleep at the wheel and too ignorant to see what’s going on.

Posted by: Brunette | February 23, 2009, 7:35 pm 7:35 pm

I would give him a D. His ideas may be good but they are not even close to being achievable. You can’t spend, spend, spend and cut taxes. You can’t say you aren’t headed to socialism when most of what you do is excatly what socialism is.
The debt cloch is running some serious overtime. And no one can say “it was the republicans” This meltdown was a lot of things and a lot of mis-management by government.
I am guessing 11 trillion by the end of march. 12-13 trillion by the end of 2010.

President Reagan did cut taxes and it worked. It stopped the wild inflation caused by President Carter’s policies. Be prepared for wild inflation and realize your grandchildren will have to pay for the Socialist agenda of Presidnet Obama and his Democratic fools in Congress. The neverending campaign of Obama continues every time he opens his mouth. He is no leader, his arrogance shows every time he opens his mouth, like when in Californis he belittled the people of Pennsylvania and their need for religion and guns. Talking out both sides of his mouth depending on the audience, that’s the true Obama.

They had hoped that things would fall apart after they left office, as life would have it, the mess started unraveling last summer. The GOP looked the other way with regulating YOUR money, while squandering the surplus President Clinton left on an invasion of Iraq that was misnamed “a war on terror.” Hello, where is Bin Laden? NOT IN IRAQ.
Yes ALL of us and our children (including the adorable Obama young ones) will be paying for this bankrupt country, while the GOP keeps offering up inept leaders who when the market tanked after Lehman failed, thought the fundamentals of the economy were “okay.” (Sen. McCain)
Fixing this economy is going to be LONG and painful and NOT this administration’s fault. There are NO easy solutions as there is no one to borrow from to ease this severe injury that is being felt in EVERY country on the planet. Do any of you who are criticizing pay attention to international affairs?
Blaming President Obama for attempting to fix (piece by piece) the US, rather than blame Pres Bush/Cheney for the careless handling of the economy for the last 8 years is more stupid than Governor Palin stating she can see Russia from her backyard.
GROW UP PEOPLE!

F——-
We fear for our great country on the slippery slide to socialism. Who pays for this mess? Only 10% of us pay taxes and now we can’t afford it. Hopefully we can survive 4 years of this.

Shame on those bashing the new President. He’s doing his best with what was handed to him by the last administration. Give him a break, he’s only human. Stop beating him up. It’s only been a month, what would you expect?

It promises to be interesting.

I would give him a big fat F! He has failed at every turn and I don’t see it getting any better soon. From sending our money offshore for abortions to selecting tax cheats for practically every cabinet post. The stimulus bill is one big fat lie with so many hidden socialist agendas. He can look you staight in the eye with a big pretty smile on his face and tell you lie after lie. I don’t trust anything this man does.

Posted by: Cynthia | February 23, 2009, 7:51 pm 7:51 pm

Obama gets an F!
Do I hope his socialist policies fail? You bet, but I’m not realy worried because Socialism has already been proven to fail all over the world. This is not its first time around the block. The best part is that when it fails and it will, we will get the Presidency and Congress back in the hands of the only sensible Party, The Republicans, in this great country, . Then we can get back to prosperity like we had for 6 years under Bush before the Dems took over in 2006!

Posted by: Brian | February 23, 2009, 7:52 pm 7:52 pm

I give OUR President an A. He inherited a political/economic/social mess from the GOP administrations. He has faced deceit, double dealing and dishonesty from those who presume to run our economic institutions and those who support them. A couple of idiotically famous radio talk show hosts have started new careers in defaming this young man who is doing all he can to right the wrongs of the past 20 years. I count the Clinton years because he was hamstrung and sandbagged by the GOP and their minions. He could not live up to his promise. And, that hurt the citizens of the US more than we will ever know! The rest of the world knows!!!

USSA (United Socialist States of America), gee I thought I thought of that, maybe many people realize where Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Rangle, Schumer and other Left Wing nutcase Socialists are leading this country. These Democrats are egotistical, arrogant and in bed with special interests. When no one will buy the Bonds created by the Stimilus package (the Chinese aren’t that foolish to buy them) wild inflation will follow.

I can’t believe people and their opinions. Many people have short term memories, thinking that it was President Obama that got this country into this mess. IT WAS NOT, IT WAS BUSH! Give Bush the F, if you must. Give President Obama a chance…at least he is trying to do something instead of nothing. I give him an AAA+. He knows exactly what is going on and trying desperately to work with the stupid GOP, who seem to be like ‘cry babies’ and not ‘want to play.” How pathetic the GOP are! There are no words for the GOP. GO PRESIDENT OBAMA! I know you will succeed and do great things for this country and the world!

F-, It’s awful that people are so stupid that they think that borrowing billions of dollars from China and Europe is a good idea. I really hate that Obama and company think that if you don’t compromise your beleifs and go along with their thinking that you just don’t understand and are being hard to get along with. I’m not compromising what I know is right. And stop comparing the man to FDR. FDR deserves more respect. I for one, do not want this country to be like France or any other of the spinless European countries and I sure don’t want it to be like China. But, that’s where we are headed with Obama.

Posted by: Bill Goodson | February 23, 2009, 8:02 pm 8:02 pm

F-. That about says it all. If something or someone doesn’t do something to stop the out-of-control spending by the White House, this country will never recover from where these idiots are taking it. So far the loss I’ve had is mind-boggling,and I know I’m not alone. I don’t understand why Obama and his cohorts think the right thing for this country is socialism. I don’t believe any of our congressmen and women give a tinker’s damn about anybody but themselves. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chris Dodd, BARNIE FRANK, Chuck Shumer just to name a few.

I know this next statement is so unreal. But I think we need to quit being separated. We are one country. We need to quit blaming Bush and Obama for our problems. There is no way to please everyone. There are going to be problems no matter who is in office. We lived through Clinton and his publicity, Bush and his father, we will certainly get through Obama. I voted for McCain and Palin. But they lost and we need to get over it. Don’t forget “In God we trust” God Bless!!!

I give President Obama an A. He is taking one for the team. Unfortunately, every time the ball is passed to one of his republican teammates, they intentionally hand it over to the other team! It is inexcusable that they are putting political games before the survival of TEAM USA in the only game that counts (our survival as a nation).

I give Barack Obama an A.
He is doing everything possible
to deal with the terribly unregulated and ignored greed on Wall Street he inherited from the previous administration.
He is speaking with experts in the
field of economics, inviting his strongest critics in Congress to the White House to ask him questions and have dialog with them. He’s doing a very good job in a dismal economic time. My hope is that he will have an opportunity to address some of the vital issues he campaigned on: health care reform, green technology, education, etc. Keep up the good work, President Obama!

I believe Obama is doing a good job in times my generation and the generation before me only slightly remembers. The programs are going to take some time. I believe there is a gap in the Stimulus Bill for those that have already foreclosed/filed bankrupsy/ruined credit before his administration. My husband and I have struggled. I have to believe that many Americans are facing years of ruined credit. It makes it almost impossible to recover.

This president is a breath of fresh air. He talks to the American people, explains what he is doing and attempting. He thinks first, then puts plans into action. He solicits opinions and advice from all members of Congress, industry, military – every segment that is affected. I wish our representative would get off their entrenched ways of looking at the government and their own personal agendas and put this country first. I give him an A. But for us that appose the package, we are not getting help. We have no hope in spending money that we don’t have then over time we will have to pay it back too. For myself and my family. we see people losing their jobs and not being able to pay bills. But on top of all this. Obama is not completly in control. God is above all else. God is number ONE. I think he is really living up to the change we need. For keeping his word, I give him an A+. For creating hope and delivering the good hard work that a president should be doing (and what we have been missing for so many years) I give him an A. For his atitude, his sincerity, and his transparency, an A+. Of course he isn’t perfect, but he is refreshing, honest, down to earth, and hard working. Overall, it would be an A+, please keep up the hard work, but DONT GIVE ANY MONEY TO THE CAR INDUSTRIES, THEY DID THIS TOO THEMSELVES AND IF IT TAKES BANKRUPTCY TO FINALLY FIX THEIR COMPANIES THAN SO BE IT, THIS IS THEIR OWN FAULT, DONT PAY THEM TO KEEP CORRUPTING THIER BUSINESSES! They need to learn their lesson, and they obviously have not handled their comapnies well in a changing world, they saw it coming and if they didnt, they need to go into bankruptcey- its not like the company will crash, it’s just going to be reorganized and structured into a more efficient, modernized industry. Giving them money is rewarding their stupidity and delaying productive business

I’m very impressed by President Barack Obama’s performance. The combination of
genuine qualities he exudes which include honesty, humility, intellect, and sincerity are embodied in his confident ability to do the difficult job ahead and is unprecedented in recent years, generating a breeze of freshness to the stale air of the body politic with which we as Americans have grown disgusted and ashamed. Since his inauguration, he has aggressively thrown himself into the work of tackling the vast collection of issues he has inherited, prioritizing and then addressing them head on with a willingness to make the complicated and unpopular choices. He has opened the doors to the executive residence, reaching out to his colleagues across the aisle, holding frequent sessions to build a consensus of ideas to work from. The majority of the opposition he’s faced thus far, have cited spending as the main reason for their contention, but found no reason to oppose the frivolous shopping spree of the past eight years, thus, smacking of the stale politics that is grossly responsible for the current dire state of economic affairs. May he gain the daily strength of endurance to continue the uphill climb of fighting the good fight and the consideration the least of us.

President Obama is a great President and a great Leader who has a heart for all people. I voted for George Bush in the 2000 and 2004, was an undecided in 2008 until I listened to talk radio and heard the hate that was being spewed over the air about stopping the Obama express. It did not work, nor did the hate McCain, Palin ad’s work. I proudly voted for and worked in Mr. Obama’s campain .Now that he’s elected you want him to be a perfect being, he is not.
” Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.
Therefore whoever resist authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and those who have opposed will recieve condemnation on themselves.

I grade President Obama first 100 weeks in office a C+
I see this grade because I think what he is doing for the housing issue is good but I have one problem with the bailing out banks and of all homeowners. It is nobody’s fault that they loose their jobs but it is your fault if you get in over your head! But the homeowners are not the only ones that are being laid off what about the people such as me that pay rent to a homeowner. People who own apartment buildings they are being foreclosed on too. If our credit is bad from loosing jobs and you can only afford to pay rent? Then your landlords loose their property… and have to get out of the property the landlord has lost? What happens to us tax paying citizens? Is it just the hell with us (are we the new slum dogs?)I have been laid off since 1994 working odd jobs whatever I can get and I am a tax payer too since I was 14 years old working in the USA… who is going to help people like me. I cannot get food stamps, medical card, nothing! These are my taxpaying dollars too. All spot lights are on the homeowners? Are you kidding me? What the hell is going on in this country we are all taxpayers and all of our monies are being spent not just the homeowners taxpaying dollars everybody’s taxpaying dollars who has worked all of their lives…and you wonder why people that have worked all their lives and have paid taxes wind up homeless? This has happen to me twice now I am living with my brother for 4 years now because I have been ruined by this credit crunch yet lost of income go USA! with me trying to better myself, a senior in college with financial aid and unemployment benefits getting ready to run out not sure I will be able to graduate because of no financial aid? I am for sure that I am going to end up on the street a third time remember there are no jobs in the USA go USA! who is going to help people like me who has no dependents never had children Just myself have worked all of my life, the same age as the President and cannot support themselves with the profession I am great at…yet cannot find a decent paying job? Although I was volunteering for my youth organization thus working for Cincinnati Public Schools, I just keep on trying who is going to help us hard working people who cannot get any bailouts and or benefits? Who! Hey MR President HELP US TOO OK Help US TOO!
In 1999 I start a youth organization call BLAD4KIDS it was somewhat good but we could never get funding although we felt successful with no finding, youth in my areas had something positive to do yet plus me at least being able to pay rent stay off the streets feel safe in my country yet got to feel what it was like to earn a paycheck I say this once again…anyways me and my mom started BLAD Talent Agency for KIDS Non Profit Organization with my our money. my mom who is now deceased worked vey hard with me asking small businesses in the communities to support our programs for kids in the inner cities of Cincinnati, Ohio. Things were great then 1996. Today, all those business are now closed down, Minorities in the community are now homeless these individuals had businesses. Way to go America way to go! I have decided to still struggle to keep my non profit youth programs going. I know that this is my dream and I am going to take it to my grave trying to help youth job salary or no job salary. But inform our president to think about this situation of people who cannot get any help with homeownerships and or bank bailouts that have paid taxes all their lives too. This too also adds drastically to the US homeless population. Their use to be social services agencies that people like me and other people like me that were off work, got sick and or have lost their jobs no matter how… could go to, agencies in the community for rental assistance programs to help you pay your rent to your landlord who is also a homeowner? These social services would send a check…monies to your landlord to help you stay off the street until you got on your feet and found work.
This is going to be a mission of mine once I get BLAD back on its feet. Hold fundraisers for rental assistance programs to help people in our communities that get hit with drastic hardship yet has no one to go to. BLAD one day is going to be there for them. What has happen to our country? Will things every change? Will we ever have things like afterschool programs for youth other than tutoring programs, all year long for inner city youth to have something to do they love like dancing singing, sports with funding other than getting a hold of guns and kill each other? I have and know a lot of youth that love philanthropy. This is what I had a lot youth doing philanthropy. With or without funding, performing in community professional programs/summer camps
our kids in inner city urban areas needs something other than going to school all year long going to art classes do get me wrong which is good too but can becomes boring, playing tennis & golf stuff these inner city kids cannot afford to do can get opportunities again like going to camp and more.
I know about 3000 kids in Cincinnati Ohio that love to model, dance, act, sing, write music, learn to play music, needs & are looking for something positive to do. Mr. President needs to find something fun for the youth to-do!

Broke his very first promise he set while he was campaigning. He said that the very 1st day in office he would meet with the Joint Cheifs of Staff about ending the war in Iraq (He obviously didn’t). My question is where was ABC News reporting on this? No where to be found.

Posted by: Joe | February 23, 2009, 9:14 pm 9:14 pm

Horrible start, Obama thinks money grows on trees. The first stimulus did nothing, so what makes this one different. Im very disappointed with his performance. This talk about nationalising banks really scares me. This is America, not China!!!

Posted by: Aaron | February 23, 2009, 9:16 pm 9:16 pm

The stimulus package is promising, although I am disappointed that the money isn’t going toward housing projects, and that it isn’t going directly toward New Orleans and other Katrina-stricken areas.
In terms of foreign policy, I am a lot more disheartened. I’m glad he’s closing down Guantanamo and other secret prisons/black sites (although “short term” holding facilities are still okay), but rendition is still being practiced. This means that the government can kidnap anyone they want with no actual prisons and can be shipped to foreign lands to be tortured. It would be different if this rendition policy would be carried out on the caveat that the suspected terrorists would recieve a fair trial. Such as it is, I would prefer Guantanamo to stay open, as opposed to shipping people off to other countries, so at least there would be some amount of accountability, however slight that is.
Our own legal system is up to the task of prosecuting terrorists. Look at the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Six people were prosecuted and convicted. Having transparent trials on US soil makes the country stronger; it’s not a caving in to terrorists and it reinforces our highest ideals.

I give him an A+. Despite the news media trying to stir up controversy after controversy by spreading the Republican talking points and downright lies about his policies, he is getting things done with his calm, clear, pragmatic vision to guide him. It is not his fault that the Republicans won’t work with him and they choose to grandstand instead of working toward solutions. I am glad the public in general agrees with me. He is such a wonderful president, doing his very best for us in a terrible situation caused by Bush and Republican policies such as deregulation that took us into a very deep hole. I am so glad Obama is in charge now. I hope the media gets behind him and starts educating the public instead of spreading false information to drive up ratings.

Let’s give our new president a chance, shall we? I would give President Obama a solid “A”. He hit the ground running, working on trying to fix this horrible economic mess he was left with, trying to be fair and bipartisan with these silly Republicans who are still pouting from losing the elections, he is opening the doors of the White House to the people, he is keeping his ears open to all, he is getting outside the bubble and going to the people who he is serving. What a difference an election makes! I expect great things from this fair, brilliant, kind, strong man who truly seems to want to do the right thing.

He is as human as you and I and doing his best with the help of the experts/gurus. He is at the least trying. I know one thing trying can give him a chance to succeed, if he was not to try then we know the answer. So I leave it to my intelligent brothers and sisters who got us into this situation. We can be as critical as we like the bottom line is we are in a mess and he is trying. Besides him and the almighty no one can help us because we (humans) are stronger than them in creating this mess.

I give President Obama a B+. After the Getner, tax issue incident, I would not have expected to have anyone else resign due to similiar issues or because they hadn’t figured out that they didn’t agree idealogically with the direction of the administration. The veting process definitely broke down. That being said, given all that he inherited, and the speed to which his administration moved to get the stimulus package through, hosting the fiscal summit, introducing the housing stimulus package, and more to be revealed, I think he’s done a tremendous job. Now that he’s given us a clear picture of the state that the nation is in, I would like to see him go back to speaking of how great American is and that “We Can” move beyond where we are now. He’s got to be a cheer leader to help the country move forward psychologically as well as fiscally. I also think he needs to help people understand that drastic and difficult times require drastic difficult measures. The nationalization of several under performing banks for a regrouping period of 2, 3, 4 years doesn’t mean that the measure has to be permanent. Perhaps nationalizing a few of the worst banks will be a deterant to ensure that moving forward banks better manage their assets, risks, and their overall business plans.

He used the time during the transition to be able to hit the ground running and he has stayed connected and involved. I think among the smartest things he has done is going to places like Indiana and Fort Meyers, Florida — places where he did not win the vote — and reach out to Republican voters who are voting even as Republicans in the House and most in the Senate refused to support his agenda.
Obama has surrounded himself with very smart people and he himself is a very intelligent man.
Unfortunately, we are in an economic ditch that took a long time to dig and I think that it will take a long time to recover from it. And Americans need to prepare for a long road to hoe.

I would have to give him an A, but that may be because I am grading on the curve and his predecessor earned an F, by a long shot. The President is trying to right the ship. I am confident that he is working hard every day on our behalf. I did not have that confidence in GWB. The bailout plan is a necessary evil, and Obama appears to be taking a page out of FDR’s economic playbook with Government sponsored infrastructure projects. It worked back then, let’s hope the 21rst century version works too.

War: B: Better than expected on the war.
Economy: FFFFF— Just look at the stock market since he was nominated. He wants to raise the corporate tax rate. What? Goodbye 401k (for good maybe).
Bi-partisanship: F (He meets w/Republicans, but ignores what they have to say; he’s basically a Pelosi puppet).
Social Policy: F (I don’t want my tax dollars paying for abortions)

99.9% of you posting the failing grades are obviously rating President Obama based on his race. Racism is no less now than it was a century ago. There is no reason to give President Obama anything less than an A+. In his short time in office, this great African American has done better things for the country than any white has done or ever will do.

He gets an F!! Just look at the stock market. Also the pork that is in the “stimulus” bill- unacceptable for someone who said they would go through and cut all the pork. His appointments have been unacceptable. If I filed those tax returns, I would have been hounded to pay tax and multiple penalties.

His cabinet has been wrought with corruption.
SINCE HIS INNAGURATION:
DOW down 1500, and deficit up 1 trillion in just 30 days. Obama is an UTTER AND TOTAL FAILURE so far.
It took Bush 8 years to harm our economy….OBAMA is finishing what Bush started, and doing it in only a matter of months.
So far, he is the worst president in all of US history.

Let’s see. Tax cheats in the cabinet, an incompetent as the Press Secretary, a pork filled stimulus, a stock market that falls every time the president speaks, releasing terrorists, denying there’s a “war on terror”. helping out those who should never have had a mortgage in the first place. As a former teacher, I would give him an F, written in bright red ink!

The man has been less than honest with regard to his place of birth and his academic accomplishments. His understanding of economics is certainly a shortcoming by his own admission. This package is a more than an adequate demonstration that his assessment of his expertise in this area is lacking at best. He “richly” deserves an “F”.

An A would be perfect and I don’t think even Pres. Obama would give himself an A.
TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GIVING OUT F’S
YOU WOULD HAVE GIVEN OUT AN F ON DAY 1.

President Barack Obama receives an A+ for his effort, given the fact that he received this enormous deficit, confrontation with two countries, and the state of this economic crisis. The President has been vigilant, poised, and incredibly calm in order to get the American People to truly understand what it is he trying to convey. The consumate professional, President Obama exudes the kind of leadership that every American can be proud of. In order to understand where the President is trying to go, one has to be truly educated and well read to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Within the first 30 days, President Obama has passed some of the most landmark legislation in the Countries history. The stimulus package, coupled with the proposal of legislation to cover the forclosure crisis, and the executive order of closing Guantanomo Prison, exemplifies his leadership in terms of turning the tides. These proposals are certainly not going to correct itself overnight, but given his intellectual capacity to lead as well as surround himself with some of the brightess minds in our Government, in due time the American people will see the true essence of the turning of the tides. President Obama in my book certainly receives an A+

I give President Obama a D and if you wonder why, just watch Wall Street. Ever since he came into office everything has been going down because of his “brilliant” ideas. His “smart” decisions first became evident when he chose to make most of his cabinet full of thieves. Above all this, he wants to fix our economy with their help!! Please stop wining Mr.President about what you “inherited.” You were the one who was dieing to be in this position. The proper way to be a leader is to look to the future instead of lament over the past.

FFF
BO lies every time he opens his mouth. Inherited a 400+ billion deficit and has promptly run it up to 1.4 trillion already! Says he will cut the deficit in half first term? What a joke! How does he keep a straight face? His insane pork spending makes Bush seem miserly in comparison. He must hate children because what he is doing to their future is criminal. Face it – this guy has never had a job in the private sector, yet HE is going to somehow create jobs? And his tax-dodging cabinet nominees? It speaks for their let-them-eat-cake attitude as well as BO’s judgement (as if we didn’t know already Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko
, Bill Ayers, Khalid al Mansour, Michael Pfleger, Rashid Khalidi, Bernadine Dohrn, Emil Jones, Nadhami Auchi, Raila Odinga, and many other thugs, terrorists, Marxists, etc.). Wall Street has made their opinion obvious. Hope you don’t own any Citi stock – you’re screwed when it goes national. Keep it up BO, you’ll do more damage in the first 100 days than any prior president! (and the same lemmings will still give you an “A”)

Posted by: Mark | February 23, 2009, 10:26 pm 10:26 pm

1. Increase our national debt by 1 trillion in just one month with a bill full of pork, pork and more pork. You can change the name all you want, pork=earmarks=DC bussines and usual.
2. Looking to nationalize some Banks. Isn’t that Socialism?
3. Cut the military funding. Right, let’s ask our service members to do the same job with less. Believe it or not that is what is going to happen.
I give Obama a big fat F.

Wow, I am in shock at the wool that has been pulled over so many people’s eyes. Come on ABC News, why don’t you report the facts without your liberal slant? He deserves an F. He has spent an inconcievable amount of money that our children and grandchildren will be paying off their entire lives. It was incredibly irresponsible, there wasn’t even enough time for congress to read the bill! Speed should not have been more important that accuracy when spending that amount of money.
Handing out money to people who can’t pay their mortgages? Ridiculous. Redistributing the wealth? Disgusting. His cabinet is an embarrassment. Transparancy? Yeah, right. Bipartisanship? Zero!
He has lied over and over and he is heading this country in a very scary direction.
By the way, Mr. Obama, it’s time to leave campaign-mode. Actually, I guess that’s how you fool these people into approving of your actions…

President Obama should receive a grade of A for his efforts thus far. It is evident that he has forged ahead with the assurance he made during the campaign to work diligently for the betterment of the human condition in this country. The legislation he has proposed and gotten passed over the past four weeks is bold, for drastic times call for drastic measures, and these are drastic times. Although the direction he’s attempting to take America is obvious to those of us who voted him into office, it’s apparent that those of the opposition are unwilling to accept or unable comprehend his position and from the look of the posted blogs of those who oppose him it seems to be the presence of far more of the latter. Here’s a suggestion; a course in writing composition may foster more understanding and less resistance. Surely the issue isn’t race.

ONE MONTH + 3 DAYS IN OFFICE… OUR PRESIDENT IS AWARDED A 94.5; A-. HE WAS LEFT WITH A MAJOR MESS. GIVE THE BROTHER A BREAK. HE IS STILL CHALLENGED WITH REPUBLICAN RACISM!!! BE HONEST AMERICA… THE GOOD-OLD BOYS IN GOP-WASHINGTON ARE NOT USE TO TAKING ORDERS FROM AN EDUCATED BLACK MAN.

FRANKLY, MANY OF US IN THE MEDICAL FIELD ARE QUITE IMPRESSED WITH THE TAX DEDUCTION OF 65% FOR THOSE WHO HAVE COBRA COVERAGE OR PAY > 450.00 FOR THEIR PREMIUMS. THE DEDUCTION OF 2.5- POINTS FOR NO REAL HELP FOR THE 47.3 MILLION INDIVIDUALS WITH NO COVERAGE. THE KNUCKLE-HEADED REBUPLICAN RESISTANCE IN THE SENATE WAS A MESS. I HAVE DEDUCTED 3 POINTS FOR NOT OFFERING THE AVERAGE MIDDLE CLASS HARD -WORKING INDIVIDUALS WHO GROSS BETWEEN $70,000- 210,000 PER YEAR GREATER DEDUCTIONS FOR THE MONEY SENT TO HELP OUR CHILDREN IN COLLEGE AND FOR ELDERLY ASSISTANCE OF OUR LOVED ONES. AMERICANS NEED A FLAT 50% TAX DEDUCTION FOR ALL MONEY SPENT ON COLLEGE AND PRIVATE SCHOOL TUITION. FOR ALL MINOR DEPENDENTS. A 60% VOUCHER WOULD BE WONDERFUL, AND PHASE IT IN OVER A 10 YEAR PERIOD. GET US OFF THE HOOK LIKE THE GREEDY CEO’S WHO STEAL $10- 85 MILLION(S) OF DOLLARS FROM THEIR CORPORATIONS ONLY TO HAVE THE WORKING CLASSES; LOWER TO UPPER PAY FOR AMERICA’S #1 PROBLEM CALLED … CAPITALISM WHICH HAS BECOME SYNONYMOUS WITH GREED.
AND LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, WHAT PRESIENDENT HAS EVER ENTERED OFFICE WITH SUCH:
1) AN OUTRAGEOUS DEFICIT- TRILLIONS,
2) BANKING CLOSURES AN “HELP US TOO”
3) UNEMPLOYMENT- 7- 8%,
4) 12 MILLION ILLEGALS STILL WAITING ON… WHO AND WHAT TO DO IT WHEN???,

8) WALLSTREET- COMPLAINING ABOUT ” THE POTENTIAL FOR SOCIALIZED BANKING WHICH HAS RUINED STOCK IN MY RETIREMENT PLANS AFTER WORKING 28+ YEARS IN ADULT TRAUMA AT A LEVEL ONE AMC, …
THE GOVERNMENT CAN CREATE 100 MORE FEDERAL JOBS BY POLICING WALLSTREET’S CORRUPTION AND LACK OF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION. SHOW MORE MINORITY TRADERS… FEMALES, BLACKS, INDIANS, ASIANS, AND HISPANICS, CARIBBEAN. ARE 3% OF WALL STREET TRADERS MINORITIES??? WHY NOT?
9) FRAUD- RAMPANT IN ALL INDUSTRIES
10)THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY – THE ENVIRONMENT… LET’S ALL BE HONEST, GEORGE BUSH LEFT A BIG MESS AND SHOULD DO EITHER PRISON TIME OR PAY THE US GOVERNMENT 650 MILLION DOLLARS OF HIS OWN SAVINGS FROM DADDY’S OIL MONEY OR FROM THE SALE OF HIS BASEBALL TEAM AS PUNISHMENT FOR SITTING ON HIS A… FOR HIS LAST 2 YEARS IN OFFICE PLAYING THE ” WAIT AND SEE GAME WITH ALLEN GREENSPAN. ” AND BY THE WAY, I’M NOT A DEMOCRAT, NOT REPUBLICAN, NOT LIBERAL, NOT GAY, NOT LESBIAN, NOR INDEPENDENT, … JUST A CONSERVATIVE HARD- WORKING 6TH GENERATION AMERICAN TAXPAYER LIKE MOST OF YOU; MAD, DISAPPOINTED IN THE SYSTEM AND SICK OF THIS CORRUPT SYSTEM THAT WILL TAKE 3 OBAMAS’/ 2 TERMS= 24 YEARS REALISTICALLY TO FIX. SOMEONE WHO IS TRYING VERY HARD TO BLEND BOTH PARTIES TOGETHER. FRANKLY WE SHOULD ELIMINATE THIS PARTY BS. IT IS TOO DECISIVE AND HAS TAKEN US NO WHERE FOR 100+ YEARS. IT IS TIME FOR THE ” EVERYBODY PARTY. ” FIXING HEALTHCARE, BANKING, THE DEFICIT, AND HOME FORECLOSURES IS NOT A D-VS-R ISSUE. NOT A DEMOCRAT VERSUS REPUBLICAN ISSUE. WHEN I DE FIBRILLATE A PATIENT IN V-TACH, I DO NOT ASK IF THEY ARE A DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN. THIS PARTISAN STUFF NEEDS TO STOP QUICKLY AND ALL MAD TAX-PAYERS NEED TO CHARTER BUSES AND LET WASHINGTON HAVE IT!!! I STRONGLY FEEL THAT 20 MILLION AMERICANS NEED TO SURPRISE THE SENATE 1-DAY.
I MUST WORK 10 MORE YEARS … TO HELP PAY FOR SOMEONE’S FOOD STAMPS AND MEDICAID BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO HAVE 4 CHILDREN BY THE AGE OF 21. OOPS… 6+ 8 CHILDREN= 14 IN CALIFORNIA.
MAD IN TEXAS.

I give him an F-
Why?
First of all, he is one of the biggest liars I have ever seen. How can he promise to lower national debt when we are paying trillions for a bailout? Take the troops out of Iraq? The day he takes the troops out of Iraq before they are strong enough to stand on their own feet, they will be overcome by the Taliban and we’ll be looking and a second and LARGER 9/11.
Not only this but he is slowly but surely making the U.S. a socialist country. In one of his speeches, he blamed sources that criticize the government for the problems we are in. Come on, a democracy is built upon criticism. We are supposed to take the criticism we receive and constantly be reforming the government for the better. If he wanted to live in a country with no criticism, maybe he should have become the Prime minister of the USSR or Iran.
And all the people who believe this is a problem of race, they are just stupid. Here is one African American completely AGAINST Obama.

*He is a puppet, and not a very smart one

You have to ask, what changes have been put in place by President Obama. First off, his appointments of people to high places is hugely disappointing. Imagine someone who cheats on his taxes is excused when that person is going to be in charge of the IRS? He RIGHTLY raked the CEOs over the coals for taking those huge $18 billion in bonuses from taxpayer monies yet, he turns 360 degrees and now opposes LIMITS on executive compensation for those companies getting taxpayer monies. He makes a big deal of the stimulus when taxpayers are given the paltry sums of $400 for singles and $800 for couples. CEOs gave themselves $18 billion in bonuses from taxpayer monies in 2008! Now, he is set to give the banks and brokers another $350 billion—-why not give that $350 billion to the taxpayers by dividing that amount over all taxpayers over 21 years of age. Wouldn’t that stimulate the economy and get us to recovery much faster than all the pork barrel and giveaways to the rich and well connected CEOs? I voted for Obama and very much regret that! I will give him a C at this early stage.
He has a lot of work to do to get my vote again—-he has betrayed the voters who put him into power. Shame.
Shame on him!

I have been disappointed. I would say c minus at best. The stimulas was a F, while for a while the staff and secretary selection seemed on track. I guess what everyone said about his inexperience is showing. I should have voted McCain.

Posted by: Dom | February 23, 2009, 11:35 pm 11:35 pm

Overall I give him an F
I am not one of the 60+% that approve.
For Stimulus Package: F
We all know that any package will take a couple of years for us to see the results, so why then rush to get this broken package passed? My guess is to get some other funding pushed through before anyone really took a good look at it and discovered there is a lot of waste. With all this additional spending being added to the cost of the war on terror how can he really believe he will have the deficit reduced or even eliminated in 4 years. That is some real fuzzy math that we will all have to pay for.
Cabinet Selection D-
His lack of experience is really beginning to show. Our best option to recover is to enpower the people not the government.
Military Planning D
One thing everyone seems to forget is imediately after 9-11, President Bush predicted that it would take 10 years to win this war.

I haven’t read all the comments but I am appalled at the 14 y/o spelling. Yes, I know we have had this ‘no child left behind’ but I sure don’t agree with them being promoted without knowing anything.
Does anyone remember 9/11/2001? We were attacked by terrorists! 12/7/1941, we were attacked by Japan. If we don’t stay strong, we will be gone!
As far as Obama, I will admit he wants to help, but I disagree with his advisors, btw, Bush advisors steered him wrong in some areas too. We had a stimulus bill when Bush was in office and now the same people are coming back wanting more. Has our welfare system gone to big banks and big companies now?I am an independent contractor that was laid off in Oct. and I don’t qualify for anything. No unemployment, no bailout. I’m glad I paid for my modest home years ago, hopefully I won’t lose it to taxes now. Now my grandkids and great grandkids will have to pay off a stimulus bill that I am not getting one cent of. I think we are in for a rough road for some time to come. I’ll give him a D.

The newly inaugurated President Obama deserves an A+ for the refreshingly open mindedness of his ideas and the good intent of his efforts thus far.
For those of you bloggers who would
give him a grade lower than B- and label him a socialist, let the grading process continue by providing them with F’s for a)a lack of patience, b)using the term socialist without a clue of the words definition, and c)for not using the same grading system to judge
the last president for waging war against a country for having imaginary weapons of mass destruction and getting thousands of young Americans killed and countless more maimed and not taking responsibility for any of it: remember, it wasn’t his fault that the intel was flawed. Smoke this over; If Obama is a socialist, I guess that makes his predecessor and staff, members of the third reich for getting the country into this spew hole.

i give him an A-. it would be an A+ except he did not require the congressional Democrats/Nancy Pelosi the have Republicans in the initial meetings. admittedly i am not sure they would have been a positive force, but it is completely inappropriate to have left them out and now it has become a divisive issue in the public discourse which only muddies the water and distracts us from the important issues. he should have stepped in since Pelosi wasn’t smart enough to do it herself
i have tremendous confidence in the plan. after all, virtually every economist says tax cuts are not going to do it. i saw 3 Nobel prize winning economists Sunday morning all agree the package is the right thing to do. beyond that, i am appalled that we have many politicians can only see 2 years out and we need a longer vision and Obama is consistently the only one talking long term.
i am very impressed he continues to extend a hand to diverse interest groups. i certainly don’t remember that happening in the last 8 years. it is refreshing and hopeful.
i am a registered member of the republican party & i am troubled that we as a party seen determined to do everything we can to make Obama fail. where have the patriots gone who put America first. How have extremists like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter & John Boehner become the Republican standard beaers. i can not help but notice that many of the people giving Obama low grades seen to have no memory of the terrible job Bush did that landed us here. talk about revisionist history. Yikes
i am troubled that we are not working together as a country at a time it is essential. that Obama is trying against insurmountable odds to do the right thing for the country and still treats people with respect that do not show that same respect to him is remarkable. he is smart, gracious and genuinely wanting to do the right thing for America. he is also determined to make sure the money is spent honestly and has a team to audit the process…..definitely an A

Definitly an A! He inherited this mess and thanks to the last 8 yrs of Bush, it is a huge mess! He’s only been in office for a month and has done more for us than Bush did in 8 years. I think he’s doing a great job!

Posted by: Debbie | February 24, 2009, 6:26 am 6:26 am

I give our new president an A. He has rolled up his sleeves and gotten to work; has stayed focused and undeterred by the political tantrums the republicans seem to be throwing on a daily basis, and, best of all, in spite of the severity of the economic crisis, he has moved on many other fronts (or combined efforts to move on more than one level while addressing the economy) to meet his commitments to us on climate, energy, torture, and health care. May I also say Michelle Obama gets an A A A A for warmth, effort, and style! So, to all you republicans out there, eat your hearts out! We have a great president and all you have is a bitter, crabby McCain angry because he thinks those should have been HIS overpriced helicopters!!

I give Obama a A + + + (Plus Plus Plus)… He has proven that politicians can do what they promise during the campaign (Thank God), he is a man of his word, and please all you calling this plan of action and President Obama a Socialist need to go back to school…

He gets a D! Loreen, you say he inherited this mess. That infers that Bush handed it to him. The housing loan problem was the single biggest driver of this failure. The reason we have not had this problem over the last 80+ years, is the government created a law which prevented these lending practices. Then, in 1999 some lobbyists were convinced that “everyone” should be able to afford a half million dollar house on a teachers sallary. The government repealed a law that had been on the books for a long time. “glass steagal act of 1933″ was lifted which allowed lending entities to provide ARM’s to people who couldn’t afford it. This was Clinton’s cabinet mistake, not Bush’s.
If you want to blame someone for this crisis, then Clinton single handedly signed this one over to us in 1999. It took us about 7 years to start feeling the effects, which is about the time the ARM mortgages started increasing rates.
Obama needs to invest into infrustructure, not give money away and tax the rich.
Instead of teaching a starving man to fish, he just handed him a fish sandwich. The people will be in the same boat in 6 months, which is why he should cut taxes.
He promised bipartisanship…F
He promised transparancy….F
He promised change…..B
He promised not to raise taxes..F
Now he is going to tax the rich, and give healthcare to the poor…C
Everyone needs to have some responsibility for the benefits. No one should be given a handout.
The people that show up at his town meeting…”can I have a new kitchen?, can I have a new house?, can you help me get a raise?…
What happened to “ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU, BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY?”
He promised us alot, but has not delivered.

F. Never has a president done more harm in less time. The markets know it, and the media is complicit.

AAA Is what I’d give Obama. Hello from England. I think you have ‘Superman’ in the White House. He deserves the support of ALL Americans to accomplish the phenominal task ahead. Under No.43 Americans were thought of as a joke (Oh, they have a short attention span) and not respected abroad. However since No. 44 (Brainy Barack) theres a growing respect for America and its people, who are intelligent and quite politically savvy. By the way, all major countries are now having to embrace some form of Socialist policies, i.e. Banks being nationalised in the UK. Gobama and God Bless America and all its inhabitants.

Back again..
All of you who rate this administration a complete failure…it has been just over 30 days! By the way, the President cannot “fire” Bernanke. Did you pay attention in history class? The cabinet “wrought with corruption” – they haven’t been there long enough to be “wrought” with anything. What nonsense. Any “grade” is not realistic – too short a time. If you like him, great. If not, that’s OK too. With any President, Americans have to wait (something we are not good at doing). The market is clearly overreacting, and by the way, any policy that any President creates takes much longer to have any effect. It is a marathon. All of you “patriotic” folks out there need to know that patriotism means support of you country – stop bickering and start working together.

I give him an A. He’s had to deal with punk ass reupgs trying to put a monkey wrench in his program just to make him look bad and better their election prospects in 2010, an economy that was trashed and for some reason even on this blog, people just assume it should be fixed by now and since it isn’t placing the blame once again on Obama. Some goof on this blog actually said that Obama put pork in the bill and also trivial spending. I laugh cause he pulled that directly from the repug talking points so he’s right on board with the fools who trying to do more harm in the name of party that do good in the name of the struggeling americans. Obama has been in office not even a month and he’s signed a stimulus bill into law, the ledbetter law for equal women rights in the job force and also the lobbying reform laws. I think what is going on is that no matter what he does, people are going to pick out the little mistake and brand him a weak leader when it is them that is weak for putting their party before country.

Posted by: N'erdowell | February 24, 2009, 9:32 am 9:32 am

Reading all the posts, it is clear that most of the responses come from highly partisan individuals. A grade of A is not justified, neither is a grade of F.
I would give Obama a B-. He made some mistakes is his cabinet selections, and I think the “stimulus” bill was rushed and contains too much pork. But we must remember that the congress is the body that writes the lesligation and spends the money. No president will ever be able to eliminate all pork or wastefull spending. Only the voters can do that by changing congress.
I believe Obama is trying to include Republicans in the decision making by talking with them, but Democrats in the House and Senate are ignoring the Republicans, just as the Republicans used to ignore the Democrats.
We just reelected 380 of the 400 members of the house who ran for reelection. And that is not change.
I don’t agree with some of Obama’s policies, but i didn’t agre with some of Bush’s either. I think he is trying to do what he thinks is best for the country. It’s to early to judge how his presidency will turn out. Wait a year and then ask this question again.

Posted by: RSTEXAS | February 24, 2009, 9:55 am 9:55 am

I say he is trying but I question the stimulus and bail out packages which increase spending and at the same time cut taxes so where is all the money coming from.
Now the proposal of cutting the budget in half by the end of his first term. Sure tighten the belt but increased spending now. Makes it harder for me to support these moves.
I would rate his first month a -D.

Posted by: Jay Julson | February 24, 2009, 10:10 am 10:10 am

I would have to give him a B. I think on a purely objective basis he has got more accomplished legislatively than any other President in a very short time since FDR. Although it does help to have a large majority in the House. In the Senate you only have an advantage if you have 60 votes. His squeaking a victory out of the Senate on the Stimulus, whether you like it or not, was still impressive. The stimulus could only be bipartisan if you wanted Obama to give up core values. Obama and other Dems, however, did all the compromising for Republicans many of which still did not vote for the bill. I still give the stimulus an A.
What has dragged him how to a B in my view were the cabinet stumbles. Why on earth would you choose a Republican for a department that housed census without exposing your scheme to move it into the White House?
I also agree with Bill Clinton that Obama needs to tell the American people that times are tough and they are going to get tougher BUT America is going to bounce back. Recessions are highly psychological and me be fought on the fundamentals and the Psyche.

I’d say a D. He proclaimed change in Washington that he’ll never be able to accomplish. Bi-partisan? I’m sorry the poor Republicans were not even given a copy of the stimulus bill to read. He knows all the pork and BS attached to a bill that will cost hard working, reponsible Americans in the future, and he still signed it.

But, his expectations for his administration was to hit the ground running. Therefore, we “citizens” expect the same high expectations and standard from him. I give him an F. He has been disingenuous and the Obama worshipers are too lazy or stupid to notice. All of that crap about looking out for the lower and middle class went right out the window when he decided to allow this pork filled spending bill through without even reading it. It isn’t the poor and middle class getting the money, it’s the CEOs and the banks. He’s a liar like every other politician.
I hope Chris Matthews still has that tingling sensation up his leg, ’cause those of us that don’t know whether we can pay our bills in a year after he drives our economy into the ground have a warm icky sensation down ours.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH COMPANIES GOING UNDER WHEN THEY DID THINGS WRONG, WHY CAN’T THEY BE ALLOWED TO FAIL AND LET SOME OF THE OTHER BUSINESSES THAT HAVE DONE GOOD AND ARE STILL DOING GOOD, WHY NOT LET THEM REAP THE BENEFITS AND LET THEM CONTINUE TO BUILD A STRONG NATION? THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT NOT NOT GOING TO MAKE THIS COUNTRY STRONG. THE PEOPLE MAKE THIS COUNTRY STRONG, BUT LET OBAMA KEEP TALKING ABOUT HOW THERE IS NO HOPE AND SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE WANT TO GET OUT THERE AND SPEND THEIR MONEY AND BUY AND INVEST. ZERO ZERO. Hello: I Hope there is someone that could ask why I have’nt heard about some part of this economic plan does not include directly helping tax payers to get a bail out? I call it under your noise politics. If the economy need a bust, How about starting with the tax payer. If every person that filed a tax return in 2008 got a oh a $30,0000 tax relief check to apply to there own finaical hardship such as paying down credit , catching up on back morgage payments, being able to buy that second car. This would help banks because credit card bills could be paid, forclosures could be stop and banks could still get a direct bail out buy consumers paying the loan they owe and being able to repair credit so that leanders would be more likly to loan to those who credit has improved by having an workable amount of money to repair mishandled or misfortuned debt. I would be more likly to accept a tax hike If I know that I had some part of the debt to be repaid from and by the goverment. This goverment bail out to taxpayers could not be applied to back taxes and student loans like the rebate given in the last administration. Please tell me, would this help everyone affcted?

Difficult to give Obama a grade on HIS performance, perhaps it is his lack of executive experience but he has let his underlings run the show which happens a lot to inexperienced executives. He has not been transparent with his nominees, but we knew when he picked Biden (whom he has already made fun of in a press conference – which was strange to see a President ridicule his VP. quote “Who knows what Joe is thinking?” smirk-smirk)that he was probably being told who to pick from the party. Why else would he pick someone who said “Finally we have a black man who is articulate and clean.” as Joe Biden said. So excusing his inexperience, and blaming his nominees on party picks it would be the lies he told that would determine the grade. He said he would close Gitmo then he put a time limit on it that was the same time limit the Bush administration had said they would need to close it. He said he would beef up the troops in Afghanistan and then again used the same troop deployment that the Bush administration had announced months earlier. He said he would bring back troops from Iraq and then decided on a longer time period than the Bush administration had suggested. So I count three bigs lies right off the bat. That puts him at best a D. If his party would let him alone and stop being so partisan then he might do better. Oh wait he said no more partisanship – oops another lie. That makes a F.

F – He has lied about the stimulus Package (no Pork), he is bankrupting America, his party is buying power at the expense of the hard working Americans, he is leading us to socialism and into communism. It is pretty bad when Putin tells the American people and the American Leaders that socialism does not work. God help America!!!

Posted by: Evelyne | February 26, 2009, 8:58 pm 8:58 pm

As of right now I’d give him an F. He campaigned on tax cuts and responsible fiscal spending. Not only has he done a 180 on both of those issues but he has doubled a previous record of budget deficit in 30 days and is pushing for more spending. Not only did he double the deficit but only 40%(being generous) could be interperated in the vaguest of ways as stimulus. You can not spend your way out of a recession and it sends a bad message to all of America when you bail out the irresponsible. What ever happened to accountability? People that support socialism should give him an A but if you don’t then you should give him an F I don’t think that there is any in betweens. Americans are starting to realize this hence his approval rating declining

I would give him an “F” for the first month!! You can take your SOCIALIST ideas and shove them where the sun don’t shine. You campaigned as a democrat and ended up as a SOCIALIST!! Sounds like TREASON AND A TRAITOR TO ME!!! By the way where is your “VAULTED” birth certificate showing you are a natural born U.S. citizen? You’ll never be respected by the US citizens and US military until you provide the “real” BC! BO’s first month was a disaster. You cannot spend your way out of a recession. As far as the “PORK PACKAGE” that was a farce and should never have been signed by anyone…rush, rush…what happened to the “5″ the politicians were supposed to have been given to read the thousand plus page bill? It didn’t happen! And the stuff that was added during the dark of the night?! You never should have printed all that monopoly money. The PORK BARREL BILL had little to do with jobs…just spend, spend…you just can”t do that!

FFFFFFF! First on agenda, one of them anyway, talk of letting terrorists out of Gitmo!?!?!? They were there for a reason you know. Too much COVERUP from MSM after election. That’s when the scandals came out w/ties with Rezko, Ayers (known terrorist), Blagovitch, Fitzgerald; the poor choices made for cabinet members, some were tax evaders and several still NOT paying their taxes and some stepped down, etc. . You promised transparency but we got was lies, porkulus, irresponsibility, having you and princess p. shake your fists and fingers at us saying we won, flipping the bird, and other childish antics. Please grow up. If the MSM wasn’t unfairly coaxed or paid off to only report the good stuff about you you would never be where you are today…screwing up the nation! Never in all, my life have I ever seen such cruelty, nastiness, meanness, insults, lies, immaturity, talk of being bi-sexual, and leaks about possible involvement in a murder. Both parties were hitting below the belt. It was sad to see grownups acting the way they did.

I forgot……..how many LOBBYSTS did you say you were going to have “0″. I heard you have “100″! Is that true Mr. Pres.? There is nothing more that I despise than LYING! Totally unacceptable.

he just adopted the George W Bush plan for leaving Iraq and incresing war in afganistan so he gets a big fat “F” across the board

Obama sucks = F

Obama F. He promised tax cut’s, transparency, responsibility in government. Ha, he has proven himself, he is nothing more than a liar. As president he set such a good example to the world by choosing tax cheats as cabinet members. He is just a poor choice.
Others,
The congressional democrats F
The republicans who see through this guy C
The American’s who voted for this guy F

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFand F

Posted by: kristal | February 28, 2009, 12:23 am 12:23 am

I’d give him an F minus. So far he’s been speaking out of both sides of his mouth, saying one thing and doing the opposite, that only works with the ignorant or those that follow blindly. The long term effect will be a drag on the economy for years, but he’ll blame it on Bush.

Posted by: Leonard | February 28, 2009, 3:26 am 3:26 am

I give him a zero. There is honestly not one thing I like about Obama.

Posted by: irishrose | March 1, 2009, 5:02 pm 5:02 pm

well i have heard ppl giving Obama an A for effort. Ha! nobody ever gave me an A for effort; if they had have had a 4.0 when i got out of Highschool.
one person says he gets an A for strong leadership, hope you like cliff diving, oh and he couldnt afford the parachute.
for the Record though FDR’s plan did help the economy during the Great depression, but only a liitle. however FDR was a lot more experienced.
i give Obama a c-. i like some of his ideas, but i dont thing the Government should run healthcare, its too complicated for them.

Incomplete/Fail His transition has been a dismal display of incompetence and disorganization. He’s the most powerful man in the world and everyone it taking advantage of him. Reid/Pelosi rammed the swindulus down his throat. Putin just made him look a fool. He insulted Blair on his first visit. He’s made Rush Limbaugh relevant. The world realizes Ahmenijad is playing him for a fool. I see why they call him Obambi. He’s as helpless and lost as a fawn in the woods.

I’m not sure who they are polling but I don’t know one person who has approved of what he is doing. He deserves an F. He promises tax increases during a poor economy and expects that to help? Are you kidding me? The market has been reacting since he was elected. If he would decrease taxes for everyone and extend the Bush tax cuts, the stock market would strengthen. It doesn’t take an economist to know that you can’t increase taxes on anyone during a time like this because those that are going to experience the increased taxes are then scared to spend because of the impending doom. We are even trying to figure out how to work less so that we don’t get so much taken away. Is that the American way? I don’t think so. This administration doesn’t have a clue what it is doing. Also — who’s money do they think they are spending? It is ours and we don’t approve of all of the ‘programs’ and ‘projects’ that he is pushing through. Shame on him for awarding those that made poor decisions and penalizing responsible Americans!!

F – He’s trying so hard to turn this country into another European Nation; hasn’t he heard what is happening to the EU? We fought once for our freedom from England and the likes of Europe; maybe we’ll have to fight the Obama followers even harder in two years.

I remember watching all of the political
rallies, and arguments with President Obama. I remember him saying specifically what he was going to do, and So far he is doing okay, its only been a month and I am willing to give him some time to act and prove to the US we made a good choice. Therefore I give President Obama a C for his efforts and will be watching his efforts closely.

Posted by: Kevin | March 4, 2009, 6:54 pm 6:54 pm

If Obama signs it he is not in his right mind. President Obama is not living up to a President that cares for everyone. The Pork with bills is riduclous. I watched the U. S. Sentate today and I don’t understand how they get anything done. I sure would vote for the Senator that wanted a study on pigs odor.

F All talk and no follow through. Sad but true!

Posted by: C | March 4, 2009, 8:54 pm 8:54 pm

I WOULD GIVE HIM AN F FOR FAILURE TO TELL THE TRUTH. HE LIED TO ALL OF US WHEN HE SAID THERE WOULD BE NO EARMARKS.HE LIED WHEN HE SAID THERE WOULD BE NO LOBBISTS. HE SAID WHATEVER IT TOOK TO GET HIM ELECTED AND NOW WE HAVE TO PAY FOR HIS OUT OF CONTROL SPENDING. SO JUST READ HIS LIPS WHEN HE IS TALKING BECAUSE HE IS LIEING AGAIN. HE WANTS TO BE HEAD OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY. HOLD ON TO YOUR CHECKBOOK, BECAUSE OBAMA IS WRITING CHECKS YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR.

This column started out with the “Numb-of-Mind!” That’s what we have in the White House, right now! As a teacher…, who sees “bright students,” often: this young man in the White House is LOST! Totally lost! He’s having a good time, on one side…, but as he loses sleep over his future, let’s pray that he learns to at least, stand on his two legs! You can’t even give him a grade that is worth posting, yet!

F- Smoke and mirrors comes to mind. This was started by the likes of Barny Franks and friends. (Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac) Said whats not broke don’t need to be fixed. Now look where we are. And we are still throwing money at it.

I give him an A

Posted by: RAndreason | March 31, 2009, 7:10 pm 7:10 pm

First you media people said that he was doing too much. Now you’re talking about what he didn’t do in 100 days.
Forget all of you media type talking heads. From where I sit he gets a solid A on all those things that he has accomplished in that time period.
Nobody here knows his schedule on what and when he intends to get certain things done. Not even the all knowing media peeps can tell you that.

Posted by: Dustee | April 26, 2009, 4:04 pm 4:04 pm

F, although if I could give him a lower grade I would. In response to another post “at least he tries to reach across” does that mean he’s tries to get Republicans in the house and senate to vote on his issues? He has not pushed for anything remotely conservative. He is the most liberal president yet. He is a domestic terrorist.
