House Democrats yesterday beat back a fourth attempt to open a congressional probe into the PMA Group’s lobbying activities.

Democrats voted with Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) to kill a bill by Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) to start a House ethics committee investigation into PMA’s campaign contributions and earmarks, CQ reports.

It was Flake’s fourth attempt to get some kind of probe going into the firm’s activities; all have been defeated.  But don’t look for him to be discouraged.  Flake says he’s gradually picking up support.  And he’s definitely getting more positive ink with each defeat: this time, the New York Times editorial page hailed Flake’s mission, declaring itself “pleased” with Flake’s effort to expose “the full and shameful truth.”
