100 Days in Web Searches
ABC News’ Kristi Berner reports: During President Obama’s first 100 days in office, all-things-Obama have been a hit with Internet-savvy Americans — or at least those who can type into a search engine. During the campaign, then-candidate Obama used the web, text messaging and other social media to reach younger voters, and it appears those constituents are now using the Internet, including Twitter, to follow the President. You might call it a tweet-for-tat exchange. Yahoo reports that over the last 100 days, people are searching for ways the President and his family are "just like us" (their clothes, his new limo, their dog), as well as for President Obama’s policy positions (bailout plan, gun ban). The web searches, not surprisingly, have evolved during Obama’s first 100 days. In January, people wanted to read Obama’s inauguration speech and find family photos and more information on the Obama girls, Malia and Sasha. In February and March, "Obama Stimulus Plan" and "Mortgage Bailout Plan" were respectively the top searches on Yahoo. Race became a hot-button issue in February, with many web searches for the controversial "Obama cartoon" published by the New York Post that some said implied the President was a monkey. When the President made his Final Four picks for this year’s NCAA college basketball tournament, Yahoo says searches spiked for "Obama’s March Madness Bracket." The fashion-conscious are looking for photos and details about the First Lady’s clothes and style. On inauguration day, some of the top searches on Google included "Michelle Obama’s yellow dress" and "Michelle Obama’s inauguration gown." And when she appeared in Vogue magazine in March, Yahoo reports searches spiked for "Michelle Obama Vogue."
And the big search in April? You guessed it — "Obama Dog." People wanted to see those cute photos of Malia and Sasha’s new puppy — Portuguese water dog Bo Obama.
