Is it Sexist to Focus on Michelle Obama’s Style?
Much has been made of the efforts in London by the world’s leaders to come up with a plan to spark the economy. Much has also been made across the media landscape of what Michelle Obama is wearing.
Harmless? Fun? One of the readers of our blog doesn’t think so:
"Focusing on Michelle Obama’s wardrobe is just plain sexist. Clearly, she’s going along for the ride, but in the end, it weakens all women when prominent women are judged based on their appearance." (Tina)

“Is it Sexist to Focus on Michelle Obama’s Style?”
Who cares!!
it is ‘All’ Pure “Media Driven” Drama-Theatre for the Liberal Agenda, and the Media’s Back Left Pocket agenda (putting young gullible butts in front of the screen to ‘Absorb’ Commercials).

It’s harmless fun.
That person is too stuffy.

Do ya really thing that men give two hoots what Michelle Obama wears? If women weren’t interested, the media would not report it. So how is that Sexist? Michelle is setting a great example for the fashion sheeple. It’s strong, fresh, and confident. Rock it, Michelle!

I agree with Tina. If Hillary had become president, no one would be commenting on what suit Bill was wearing.

Michelle is making a big deal about her clothes talking about the designers she is wearing. So discussions about her clothes are fair game. When famous women “discover”fashion they seem to start out as fashion victims, looking as though designers have thrown up on them. Michelle is still in that stage. Although her outfits are a huge improvement on this trip than in past appearances.

It isn’t so much sexist…it is more like a commentary on how shallow at times we are in this country. We have people (all ages) who know more about what is on American Idol, what the headline is on the Enquirer, and things like where Michelle Obama gets her clothes, then how to balance a checking account, what it means to have a mortgage or credit card etc…

I am tired of hearing about her, her arms, her style. He husband should be doing his job instead of going on TV and acting like a movie star instead of the President.

ABC is shameless in their promotion of “American Royalty” and the Obama Presidency. The journalists (?) should try reporting real news, investigating real issues. This is a distraction, and they don’t even do that well.

She’d have to have style for us to be able to focus on it.
However, since most people are sheep, odds are that her “style” will be followed, regardless.
Baa….

No, it’s not sexist–women LIKE clothes and it isn’t sexist to talk about it. I loved seeing the wedding gown and trousseau from the Bush wedding and the Nixon wedding. I can’t afford to wear designer clothing but I do like to look.
Our President and First Lady are GREAT and I am so proud of the impression they are making in Europe! It’s great to be proud of America’s image again!

No, not sexist, just stupid. Sort of like the photo of who is wearing ragged underwear on the front page of ABCnews

I could care less what she wears or what the news writes about this trip. Other than this post I have not looked at picture, read an article or watch her on TV. Talking about the royalty of the first family is wrong. We fought a war against royalty and we sure need to stop this type of reporting.

Her outfits are important because women have no value other than eye candy.

It’s sexist but let’s face it, would women have it any other way?

You know, I’m not at all sure that this is sexist. Listen, men are men and women are women. The differences we should celebrate. I never heard a girl complain when her boyfriend opened the car door for her. I never heard a guy complain when his wife cooked him dinner. I mean, we are taking things like chivarly, class, and style and making them out to be bad things. I juist don’t understand why people have to be so critical of everything. Relax….enjoy life.

No, it isn’t. If Michelle were president or held some genuine office in her own right, it *would* be sexist to focus on her style.

I agree with most of the comments in favor of our First Lady Mrs. Michelle Obama. I am so PROUD to see two people who truly respect each other and is not ashame to express their love. I am most PROUDEST OF HOW MRS. OBAMA DOES NOT WASTE HER TIME ON STUPID REMARKS FROM STUPID PEOPLE ABOUT TRYING TO TELL HER WHAT TO WEAR AND WHAT LOOKS GOOD ON HER OR NOT. SHE HAS PROVEN MORE THAN ONCE THAT SHE IS HER OWN WOMAN. SHE THINKS FOR HERSELF, SHE IS CONFIDENT IN THE DECISIONS THAT SHE MAKES FOR HERSELF AND HER FAMILY. THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT PEOPLE ARE HATERS, BECAUSE SHE SIMPLY JUST IGNORE THEIR COMMENTS AS IF THEY DO NOT EXIST. So, for me THAT’S A WINNER!!!!!!!! MRS. OBAMA YOU JUST KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE STYLISH CLOTHES. MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND OUR PRESIDENT!!!!!

Is it sexist, YES!
Aren’t you people going overboard with this?
Or is it that the media has nothing better to do!
I suprise you don’t keep count on how many times they visit the Restroom!

So what? didn’t they do the same with Jackie? I never heard any bad comments on that

At least some of you were honest about Michelle’s LACK of fashion taste. I, too, am tired of hearing about her arms and her “fresh style”. When did dressing for a trip to the gym become “the trend setter?”
For my part, I would rather being reading about her husband STAYING IN HIS OFFICE and working to end our financial crisis instead of jetting here and there to read some speech prepared by some handler so he can get his daily dose of adoration from a crowd. I’m with Debra Alfano.
