Michelle Obama Fashion Alert
ABC’s Yunji de Nies is in London: For all you fashionistas out there, Michelle Obama wore a Jason Wu dress, with Jason w cardigan, and pearls to the opera house event with the G20 spouses this morning. Clothes aside, it’s a big day for the First Lady – she’ll finally speak! We’re at a girl’s school, with a substantial minority student body. It’s a very diverse crowd. This is her only solo event on the trip and the only formal remarks that she’ll make. The focus will be on empowering women. This event is designed to mirror the "Women of Excellence" event she held at the White House a few weeks ago.

Focusing on Michelle Obama’s wardrobe is just plain sexist. Clearly, she’s going along for the ride, but in the end, it weakens all women when prominent women are judged based on their appearance.

Tina – when a woman reports on things of interest to women – I don’t think that’s sexist.
Natale – just because you don’t care doesn’t mean everyone thinks like you.
====================================
As for the story, I could care less one way or another, but I just think it’s remarkable that some people complain about things just for the sake of complaining.

I think Michelle Obama could offer something of substance if she wanted to. Instead, it is clear that she and the press think of her just as Obama’s woman. I appreciate fashion, too, but Michelle Obama has yet to show anything but bad taste, so why does the press keep pushing it? Maybe they think it is funny.

It’s too bad that you don’t think that our 1st Lady isn’t doing anything, but a better question would be what are you doing?

Give her a break…she could be like Hilary, doing policy issues.
What she wears is semi-important. Certainly if she wears only American designers that will help the fashion industry. Particularly when she wears off-the-rack clothes at affordable prices.
Remember, this is a woman who received a law degree, worked at a major Chicago law firm. She overcame obstacles.
So, why not appreciate that she is smart, fashionable, a caring mother and
a representative to the rest of the world.
Heck, even the Queen put her arm around her!

They keep commenting on it because she is the first first lady since Jackie to have a sense of style. When she speaks she can hold an audience, so why not add to that by dressing so that people talk about it? I mean, think about it. If her dress gets your attention, maybe you’ll stop and listen to her speech too. Pretty smart. And I’M a feminist too.

Michelle Obama is the President’s wife, she has to wear clothes that reflect her status. She definitely needs a personal shopper, one without an agenda. She is not a Jackie Kennedy type. Jackie was petite and very stylish and wore clothes that reflected her image. This is what Michelle Obama needs to do as well. Plus you don’t go sleeveless in front of the Queen of England. It shows disrespect.

Clothes do not need to be outrageously expensive. Michelle Obama can wear lovely, stylish things without breaking the bank. But the clothes she is wearing are costly and are not in good taste. They accentuate her large hips, she’s almost 6 feet tall, she needs clothes to make her look slimmer and less gaudy and more put together. I say she needs a fabulous personal shopper that’s not a designer. A person who doesn’t have an agenda, someone who isn’t trying to sell her their clothes.

I Like Michelle Obama’s wardrobe
She is a very beautiful smart lady.
The Queen appears to like her very much.
Most woman of color are very beautiful.
