Surprise, Surprise. Obama in Iraq.

President Obama was greeted today like a rock star by US troops in Iraq.  Digital cameras were held high as Obama pressed the flesh with US servicemen and women.  The President has put Afghanistan on the front burner lately.  But today it was Iraq.  Obama used his surprise visit to talk about all the work left to do in the country.  He warned that America has entered a critical period in the country. "We spend a lot of time trying to get Afghanistan right, but we have work that still needs to be done here in Iraq. That’s especially true with the [Iraqi] elections coming up, there are a lot of unresolved issues," said the President. Reminder:  All US troops are to be withdrawn from Iraq by August, 2010.

Heh, ‘surprising’ indeed. Good to see he’s doing the entire job and not letting the domestic economic crisis distract him, but it is his job as commander in chief to manage Iraq.

The Troops look very happy to see their Commander-In-Chief. They understand what a great job he is doing and surely he has given the troops confidence that he will do his best to bring them home in a careful and safe manner. God Bless him and his family.

After his anti-American comments in Europe, I’m surprised they are shaking his hand.

Could it be possible that people truly love the guy? I’m not entire sold on it (I’m not a big fan of “going with the crowd” mentality), however something is definitely going on with him that attracts people from all walks of life.

D – I think he genuinely exhibits an air of caring and kindness that is sincere. He does really care about making America a better country and the World a friendlier place. It’s not “pie in the sky” optimism either. It can happen, not overnight, but gradually.
Mihann – He didn’t make anti-American comments on his trip abroad. He admitted that America can make mistakes too. We aren’t perfect. Foreigners viewed us all as obnoxious, arrogant war-mongers. No wonder the world didn’t like us. Being kind doesn’t mean someone is weak. Kindness can be a very smart defense mechanism, too.

600 hand picked troops where waiting for his arrival. anyone taking bets?

The troops cheered each time the President mentioned leaving Iraq, and turning the mission completely over to the Iraqi government. Now, what will the right wing say about that? Why that the troops were “hand picked” of course! You see, the right wing could not let their small minds accept the fact that the rank-and-file troops have had enough and support the President.
