For the 18th Straight Week “Nightline” Grows in Total Viewers

NIGHTLINE” OUTPERFORMS “LETTERMAN” FOR 6th WEEK IN A ROW AMONG TOTAL VIEWERS

NIGHTLINE” CONTINUES TO CUT TOTAL VIEWING GAP WITH “LENO”

According to Nielsen Media Research for the week of May 4, 2009, ABC News “Nightline” grew for the 18th straight week among Total Viewers compared to the same week last year. “Nightline” posted 3.66 million viewers, increasing 9% versus the same week last year while NBC’s “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” declined 3% and CBS’ “Late Show with David Letterman” declined 2%.  Quarter to date, “Nightline” is the only program up versus the competition (13%). 

Nightline” is solidly in second place season to date among Total Viewers with 3.89 million. The program increased 14% among Total Viewers and 4% among Adults 25-54 compared to last season.

Versus last year, “Nightline” continued to cut into “Leno’s” total viewing lead for the seventh consecutive week. “Nightline” shrunk the total viewing gap with NBC by 28%.

Additionally, “Nightline” outperformed “Letterman” among Total Viewers for the sixth week in a row.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Cynthia McFadden, Terry Moran and Martin Bashir. John Donvan and Vicki Mabrey are correspondents. James Goldston is the executive producer. The program airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m., ET on the ABC Television Network.
