Michael Moore Takes On Bernie Madoff (and Capitalism)
ABC’s Hanna Siegel from New York:
First there was "Bowling for Columbine" the documentary by Michael Moore on the horrific shootings at Columbine High School. Then “Fahrenheit 9/11,” the highly controversial anti-Bush Administration film. And later, “Sicko” about the failure of our nation’s healthcare system. Up next for the shock doc filmmaker? Capitalism. Go figure.
In this week’s TIME magazine, Moore points his pitchfork toward one capitalist in particular.
"Aside from Barack Obama himself, no person will provide a more iconic face of this end-of-capitalism-as-we-know-it year than Bernard Lawrence Madoff," says Moore.
But the filmmaker isn’t stopping there. “If Ponzi schemes are such a bad thing, then why have we allowed our top banks to deal in credit-default swaps and other make-believe rackets? Why did we allow those same banks to create the scam of a subprime mortgage? Where are the mug shots on this list of the chairmen of AIG, Merrill Lynch and Citigroup…?”
The film will be out this fall.
