Concepts are almost never functional at first…heck we have had concepts floating among the greatest scientist of thier days for hundreds of years. Look up the “black powder combustion engine” or the “perpetual motion machine” ideas they have put forth.
Fools, hardly, maybe slightly foolish as they did seem to jovial chaps, but genius will only be rateable as thier work progresses.
BTW, the CGI work that shows a single spired type power tower looks an aweful lot like what we see everywhere. I could see some day our light posts and traffic signals having small turbines on them as well…individually the power produced wont be much, but there are how many telephone poles in this country? How many of the buildings in New York could be topped with a more traditional wind turbine? How many square feet of window in the city that could be fitted with solarfilm to collect power and provide window tinting for less cooling cost and more insulation for lower heating costs?
Here is my personal favorite that is only viable in those obscenely tall building, hydro electric power from the downward force of the water that must be pumped to the higher floors, I know hydro electric from sewage may sound horrible, but it could replace the costs of getting the water up there in the first place.
