Quick Fix: Young Americans Losing Their Religion

User Comments

I don’t think young Americans are losing their religion as much as they are not finding religion. One is not born with religion so one cannot lose what they don’t have.
Young American are given their parents religion and once they are adults, they can choose to keep it or change it to something else.
Religions today are so off the mark with the youths values that I do not find it surprising that kids today prefer not to be affiliated to any one faith. I am one. I am an atheist.

I’m not surprised at all at these skyrocketing numbers of un-churched or non-religious kids.
These are the offspring of a generation of parents (myself included) who have raised our kids with kid-gloves, worrying we might somehow stunt their intellectual growth or spirit if we tried to instill certain dogmas or rules.
We didn’t use corporal punishment, we told them they ‘are special’, we’ve overprotected them from any kind of danger, etc.. So there’s no surprise this generation will turn from ANY religion that has hard/fast rules to follow. These kids want to think and act for themselves.
I do think this generation is much more spiritual-they have a larger awareness of the universe and their place in it.
