Sotomayor’s Corporate Defendants

Plenty of column inches have already been devoted to President Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court, but the Wall Street Journal manages to focus on an area of Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s record that has gotten scant coverage.

Despite a record built on liberal issues from civil rights to employment law, Judge Sotomayor’s record in more than 4,000 cases shows her occasional siding with corporate defendants or diverting from a standard liberal position, the paper reports.

"There is no reason for the business community to be concerned" about Judge Sotomayor, Lauren Rosenblum Goldman, a partner at Mayer Brown LLP who has represented businesses including Wachovia Corp. and Dow Chemical Co, tells The Journal.

This is the kind of thing that scares me about her. She is most likely a corporatist and will not really side with the so-called average person in the long term. Oh well probably the best us liberals can hope for anyway.
