Ahmadinejad was Once Just a Face in the Crowd…
The streets of Tehran filled each day this week with frustration over the nation’s election. Might there be one face in those crowds who will go on to be a leader of Iran? The face of someone who might take the country in a new direction?
There was such a face in the crowd 30 years ago when Iranian crowds overthrew the US backed Shah and turned the country into an Islamic state. One face in those crowds may very well have been that of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad – the hardliner whose reelection has sparked today’s uprising. Some of the Americans held hostage at the US Embassy back in '79 say Ahmadinejad was there.
Who will emerge from today’s crowds?
