Gitmo Detainee Joins Bernie Madoff in NYC Prison

ABC's Tom Johnson from New York:

"Not in my backyard" has been the rallying cry from Republican members of Congress.  It is a reaction to the idea of moving Guantanamo Bay detainees to maximum security prisons in the US.  President Obama wants to close the infamous detention center.

In the early morning hours today the first of these detainees was moved to New York City to stand trial in federal court.  His name is Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, A Tanzanian who faces charges in the bombing of the two US embassies in Africa back in 1998.

As has been reported by ABC's Jake Tapper the detainee is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan.  It is a maximum security prison in Manhattan.

The world learned about the MCC facility recently because it is home to another notorious figure.  It's the prison where fraudster Bernie Madoff is being held

If you're curious lights on at 6:00 AM, lights out at 11 PM.  Activities include ping pong and the uniforms are khaki.

It’s been reported that there are a fair amount of prisoners who are converting to the Islamic faith. This is no problem in itself. The problem is that these same people are turning to radicals who hate Americans.
We don’t need martyrs in prisons.
Keep the detainees away from the regular prisons.
Some people will turn radical no matter what you do or don’t do.
Some people are just looking for guidance. The prisons must make certain that the guidance is coming from a good source.
