Laura Bush Talking About Obama
It is not surprising that President Bush is not out and about talking about his successor's first days in office. Former Vice President Cheney has effectively filled that role. But what about a former first lady? What's the tradition there? Laura Bush granted an interview this morning with Good Morning America. Speaking from the Bush's new home in Dallas, Bush chimed in on the public discourse over the national security policies of her husband's administration. There has been lots of debate over the harsh interrogation techniques used on terror suspects, techniques approved by the Bush administration. "It's easy to say when we're so much further along after Sept. 11 that, well nothing else happened. There are different times, and it's easy to look back and say, 'We should have done this' or 'We should have done that.' But, in fact, we are safe, and we didn't have another attack. And I think that's important," Laura Bush said. As for the contentious state of the Republican Party: "It's like creating tension within a party for people to talk about … how they want to be represented as a party member and how they want to see our party represented. And I think that one way to do that is to discuss," she said. "It comes and goes in cycles, so that's what I think this is … just a very typical political cycle." Laura Bush applauded President Obama's selection of a woman for the Supreme Court. And she spoke about Michele Obama too. "I like to watch her. I think she's doing great," she said. "I mean, I remember what it's like, those first few months that you live at the White House where you're still looking for the light switches. … And then to be there with their little girls reminded me a lot of being there with my big girls. … It's a very, very nice place for family life."

I give Bush credit for going after the Taliban after 9/11 but feel he acted too quickly in declaring “Mission Accomplished”.
The fact is that the attacks happened on Bush’s watch. He was warned about suspected activities but chose to pursue “No Child Left Behind”.
The invasion of Iraq seemed to be more of an expedient way to get re-elected then to thwart the extremists.
Now we are gearing up again in Afghanistan.
And yes, there have been no attacks since 9/11 but what was the cost to US prestige?

There is no way to prove that the Busy Administration averted another attack. Perhaps there wasn’t going to be one — who can say? But to claim that they really went after the Taliban is not true. They went after Saddam Hussein, who had nothing to do with September 11th. Had Bush gone after the Taliban, more troops would have been sent to Afghanistan instead of Iraq, which they weren’t.

I think Laura Bush is a breath of fresh air. She, unlike her husband, has the freedom to speak her mind, with an opinion all her own. i applaud her.

Iraq was attacked to get rid of their evil leader, and to prevent or eliminate the danger from weapons of mass destruction. Everyone who said they had such weapons now says there never was any. Yet I recall, and two other folks have called in to C-Span with the same information, that during the time our inspectors were barrred from the country, a large convoy hauled something from Iraq into Syria. Then our inspectors were allowed back in. In addition, it has been reporte by the media, and verified, that tons of nuclear material has been taken from Iraq and moved to Canada. This has not been reported by our biased media. Say what you want about President Bush, but he did do something, even though it might not have been the best thing to do. We are much worse off today that we were lasst year, and things can do nothing but get worse.

Informaion on the web indicates that an individual began a run of the banks in September 2008, that resulted in $550 Billion dollars withdrawn within a few hours. This was by a man who has openly stated that he wants to destroy our form of government, and reportedly spent $20 million of his own money to prevent President Bush’s reelection. Why hasn’t this man been kicked out of the country, sent bach to Israel from whence he came, and had his bank account frozen? No one has ever told the public that the financial crisis was deliberately caused, and two of our Congress members that began crying for immediate action to give billions of dollars to banks and organiztions, were more than likely involved. One of them was responsible for overseeing the financial district, but apparently did nothing.

Saving America from attack and American lives vs. lost of American prestige-you have questionable priorities.

I have great admiration for Laura Bush, but as everyone knows, the first lady is just accent to the president and not the leader and decision maker even though some presidents will discuss their decisions/plans with their wives. Laura Bush was always in the background of George W. Bush, Jr. and entertained the public with her interest in libraries and books just like their cute Scottish terrier, Barney entertained us with his Christmas video. It is nice to see that she is publicly exercising her freedom of speech by openly expressing her opinion concerning public matters. What happened during her husband administration was a series of mistakes that shouldn’t reflect back on her.

The constant attacks and blame game followed by the personal attack media hounds which are in the pocket of Obama, I believe Mrs. Bush has every right to speak her thoughts. I know this is in direct vilolation of the liberal postion which is freedom of speach is only for the liberals and the media. I am waiting for the day you revert to the violence of the liberals gdroups of the 70′s, excet this would be to much effort fodr the majority of you.

Mrs. Bush has every right to comment on the attacks on her husband. Freedom of speach of for everyone, not just the media and liberal blogers. If the liberal bloger would get out into the real world, maybe they would find that writing against others is not as good as getting off your butt and doing something.
