Where in the World is the Governor of South Carolina?

We're following an odd story out of the state of South Carolina today.  Governor Mark Sanford has been missing (so to speak) from the state capitol since last Thursday.

His staff say they know where Sanford is and that he is taking some time in seclusion to "recharge".  His wife told the Associated Press that "he was writing something and wanted some space to get away from the kids."  But both his wife and the lieutenant governor say they don't know for sure where the governor is.

Sanford lost a public battle against President Obama's stimulus plan a few weeks ago in which he refused to take several million in federal dollars for South Carolina schools.  He was against future requirements that accepting the federal money would bring.

If nothing more, today's confusion is turning into a bit of a public relations nightmare.

This governor needs to be booted out of public office. A state governor just does not disappear into thin air and not even telling his family/wife where he is? He takes off and doesn’t leave anyone in charge of the state? I hope the voters get rid of him; sounds like he is NOT doing his job and is in it for the $$$. Recall time!!

You are way off base Nina K ,He is in it to strengthen our State and not go into Debt… This is the strongest Governor we have ever had . He is not one that goes with the grain… and Politics..

Sanford is chairman of the Republican Governors Association and considered a leading Republican presidential candidate in 2012.
Here is the “responsible” Republican way to deal with job stress:
~Take your taxpayer-funded car, and head out.
~Don’t tell your consituents where you’re headed.
~Don’t even apparently tell your wife where you are headed (on Father’s Day weekend, no less!).
~And, when people start to wonder where their governor slipped away to, and when they start to wonder, legitimately, who is in charge, tell them that you need to “recharge.”

What an irresponsible ass.
If he wants to wander off on his own for whatever reason, he should transfer power to the Lt Governer. This is not High School, the Governor of a State has responsibilities that he can not just walk away from because he did not get his way in the State Legislature.
You’ve got to wonder about the mental stability of the guy. I’d vote to impeach on the basis of incompetence. He can go hike the trails all he likes as a private citizen.

I think that there will be a just reason for the Governor leaving, its the media, please they make Obama look good for spending 787 billion dollars that hasn’t and isn’t going to do a damn thing for anyone. Mark Sanford is a very intelligent guy and I personal think that this a BS story that has been made up. He’s a republican that has not had an affair on his wife, and does not have freinds that are slum lords and involved in illegal pratices. He is a Republican and the media needed to find some way to take the attention off of Obama just a little bit for not taking up for the Iranians that are being slaughtered overseas. Lets face it people Governor Sanford is the going to run againist Obama in 2012 and the media is trying to write him off before the people of the United States see how much of a idiot Obama really is.

Good point.
I haven’t seen any Blog Headline here about NoBo’s failure to speak up for freedom fighters.
Personally I think that those Conservative Talking Heads are wrong saying NoBo should speak up for the protesters in a Reaganish way.
No president should ever speak out about such a thing unless he/she really means it.
So not this time, not this guy.

According to Fox-the governor an avid hiker, went hiking in the Appalachians. Coincidentally, Father’s Day was also Hike Naked Day–Perhaps, the Governor need to cut loose and go skipping through the woods playing nature boy for a week??

Republicans are getting increasingly nuttier from Steele on down to the Texas crazies who want to secede. We should swap out with Iran, We take their citizens. They take our tories.
