Closing Arguments: Obama’s Job Approval – Your Take?

Today, President Obama talked about the importance of passing health care reform; his strategy for the war in Afghanistan; and his deepening spirituality in the White House. Earlier this week, an ABC News poll found that the president's job approval numbers are slipping — with increasing skepticism about the economy and his health care proposal. So tonight, we ask: Given what you heard today in our time with the president, and based on what you've seen of how he works — do you think he's doing a good job? Tell us what you think. Obama is doing a fabulous job. But it’s amazing how rich republicans like Rush and Steele can persuade people with little or no health care that Obama’s plan is bad. Brainwashing at it’s best.

:
: OBAMA IS EXCELLENT AT MANIPULATING
: WORDS TO HIS ADVANTAGE
:
I do not trust Obama. His words are sweet but his actions and harse and bitter.
* Suddenly we have a “crisis”
* In Obama’s words there are two options – do nothing or his multi-trillion dollar plan (sorry, there’s more options)
* He’s presenting a plan (yet he’s never read the legistlation)
* In his words, only Obama is the “reformer” and everyone else is blocking “true reform” (sorry, there’s many types of reform, including reducing government and cutting taxes)
* He’ll paint a picture to his advantage, even if untrue, such as him bringing the deficit down (when the CBO has reported otherwise) and his proposal being budget neutral (again when the CBO reports otherwise)
* He doesn’t tell you his tactic is to bully the financial firms, auto makers, healthcare institutions
* And he never mentions that social security, medicare, medicaid are all bankrupt entitlement systems and taking on another HUGE entitlement system is reckless, foolish and unsustainable

I think a better question is Do we believe his policies and values are what are best for this country? My answer is No.

Once again when change needs to happen, the lobbyists and those in Congress who depend on their support, launch an all out campaign to deceive and confuse the majority of Americans. They create an atmosphere of fear that any change is bad for the country and will create more problems. Obama faces a tough struggle to overcome those who want him to fail, and those who want change need to stand with him, support him and speak out when the truth is manipulated.

I wish the lawmakers who are trying to kill the health bill, walk a mile in my shoes. I struggle just day to day with no health insurance, disabled, but not disabled enough to receive benefits, working at the bottom rung of the ladder job. These lawmakers don’t need health insurance because they’ve got it. A Senator just has to write a wonky book, to get it on the NYTimes best selling list and the money goes to their co-pay. They literally don’t have to raise a finger. That’s what angers me about the movement to stall health care reform.

I believe he’s a good man and means well. I wouldn’t say he’s manipulative at all. I can’t say I agree with everything he does and says though. Should’ve kept his mouth shut about the Gates thing and what everyone thought he was going to do(get us out of a war that means nothing to us) he’s still doing. So not too impressed. And I’m not sure his new ideas for a health plan are going to change much either. Just like all the other presidents before him, trying to create new health care ideas instead of taking ideas that are working in the world around us. So I would give him around a B-. Being a good man means a lot in my ranking.

Obama is the best and most honest president we’ve had in many a year. He is not always right, but his intentions ARE right, and he is trying for all our sakes. Unfortunately, the monied ones who hold the real power in this country will sway the ignorant and shoot down his every attempt to make things work better for the average citizen. It is too bad, but the handwriting is on the wall. You have only to look at the ratings for the hate mongers on FOX news. The education in our country has gone down, and with it, the intelligence. They will bring Obama down to protect their own wealth.

He’s doing a great job…at what he does, which is political rhetoric and manipulation. In regards to setting sound policy, managing our government well, and leading us into a brighter future…he’s failing big time. A lot of people would vote differently today.

Sure he is. If we are to take a serious look we would find that it it our elected reps. who are not doing so good.
The Republicans have no answers and the Democrats are just Chicken……, well you know what I mean.

I give President Obama positive marks on most everything he has done. Congress on the other hand is a total failure. Corporate America decides what legislation gets passed. Want to know how a representative is going to vote on legislation? Look to see who is making contributions to him – that will tell you.

The only thing a president can do is make proposals on things that need to be changed or started. Only congress can make it happen. They don’t see anything but dollar signs in their eyes. The “buck” will always come out on top.

I was about to give up on ABC’s blogs until I read some of the comments in this one. I thought for sure that all the racists jerks and frustrated losers use this website and their home base (Fox News) for comfort. I especially appreciate the balanced statement made by Topher Nugent | Jul 24, 2009 2:45:43 AM.
I too was somewhat surprised by the surprisingly hasty statement on Gates. It is possible that the President was right here. But I thought as the President he should’ve been more careful as he’s always is. Perhaps it was a slip up, or there’s something more to his loose declaration. We’ll see.
By the way, this demeanor of his is unbearable sometimes. It makes us cry out when he’s not too emotional on such an important subject. Actually, we simply forget this is who he is. He’s not into the emotional thing. He’s just into talking to people like adults. I guess we’ll probably appreciate this after he’s gone.

Obama has once again aligned himself with a racist black man and showed the country where he really stands. It’s uncomfortable for the country to accept but that is who Barack Obama is. He has many radical associates and his press concealed history shows it if people look at his actions past and present. Double talk won’t fix the problem and the tone has been set for a racial devide in this country because the race card has more than worn out it’s welcome in the eyes of most whites that have been pursecuted by it in the name of delivering special rights and priviledges to those with a darker skin tone. The NAACP and militant minorities have now pushed to the point that white Americans have said that is quite enough. It’s a dirty fight when the race card is waved for advantage in any situation and white America will say that’s not going to play any more. This is situation that will present itself whenever Obama speaks without his telepromter putting the words in his mouth. Wright or Obama speaking speaking this man will divide this country and put it security at risk within and abroad.

He’s doing a great job…of doing exactly what he told us he would do while he was campaigning…and the results are doing nothing but hurt the country.

he has so far done the worst job then any president i have seen.–he is promotin racisum himself.(the officer with the black racise professor.) by his conmit.—his health plan is a cover up of him havin control over every american. wake up people, his plan is NOT goin to be better then what is there now.—look at the auto companies,(i am buyin a ford now, its the only american auto company left, and NOT GOV owned)—HE NEEDS TO WORK ON THE ENCOMONY–this country is becommin more racial devided then it has ever been.—look at the firefighters promotion case.—the race card is being played to the limit since this mixed race man has become president. Take a long look people, this country is fast becommin a socialist, and maybe headin to a commenist country. WE NEED TO START PRAYIN TO GOD.

I think there are some people out there who can’t possibly know what they are talking about! Obama has been the hardest working and most dedicated president we have ever had and yet there isn’t a republican that can admit that! Makes me sick how they all lie through their teeth and the the others just repeat what they have heard! He is doing the he can to help people who have lost their really good jobs like both my husband and I obtain health Insurance again. We need it and hopefully we will be able to find jobs again soon as well. All you idiots who don’t need anything from his help please just back off and let those of us who do need this help right now be able to get it!

It’s sad that the people who have a lot of bad stuff to say about Mr.Obama have no plans of their own to back up their rhetoric. I guess the president was right when he said that his opponents will always try to turn the positive to negative. The only people affected are his detractors and the ignorant, but not me! So plz do not bring that around here. This man is obviously trying to make sure that this country bounces back and what a better way than spending our hard earned tax dollars on stuff that really matters like health care instead of wasteful wars.

I think President Obama is doing a wonderful job under very negative and badgering neocon circumstances. Repubs go after him on virtually everything and to an extent, some of it is working on the ones who scare easiest. I’m hoping health care reform will be signed with public option included and not some watered down neocon version that will not benefit any of us. We have the power do get health care accomplished. Now is the time!

I think President Obama is doing a great job.
He is working hard, making good decisions, showing exceptional leadership.I am very supportive of him and thankful he is the President in this difficult aftermath of failed policies.

President Obama is doing an excellent job. I wish the media would spend more time talking about the economy than seeking out detractors. If my memory serve me correctly…Pres. Bush was not scrutinized as keenly as our current Pres. Yes I get it: he is our 1st African American President and everyone is waiting for him to fall on his face. Well keep waiting it is not going to happen. Please try and give Pres. Obama half of the support that was given our previous Pres. The economy is turning around but please be mindful it took 8 years for our economy to tank and it will take more than 6 mos for it to turnaround.

I’m surely no Bush fan But P_leez, “Picking on Obama”? Guess ya’ all missed the noose hung, burning Bush effigies covered in swastikas, the monkey face Bush art & all the other “cute left wing attacks”. There was no outrage then, BUT you can bet you’ll hear screams of racism if that happens to Obama. Who’ll be shouting the loudest? The same folks who were committing the protest acts above of course! Isn’t America a grand land of freedom of speech….. for a chosen few?
For those old enough to remember Jimmy Carter’s & the Democratic spend lust, gas lines & 5 gal. gas limits… Happy Days Are Here Again! I see a much more angry uprising this time in the American people & no doubt the same result will come to past. This guy made so many promises to voters to get elected, then just slammed the door & ignored them. Perhaps that works in Chicago but…. Word has it the Dem. lefties may be upset with Obama’s non-actions on campaign promises. That should be very interesting. Will Democrats call other Democrats racists for attacking Obama, or is that term only reserved for folks outside of the Dem party who attack Obama?
[it's amazing how rich republicans like Rush and Steele can persuade people] Have you heard of moveon-dot-org & all it’s rich Democratic supporters? That is where the real stockpiles of cash are & they influence people too, do you have a problem with them too? The government fails at most everything they do because they’re always exempted. The president is & should be exempt, but when his family & every single supporting lawmaker of Obama Care joins up, taxpayers “may” seriously check it out.
