Happy Hour At the White House

Last week's Presidential telephone diplomacy has led to some cold brews outside the White House.  Today at 6 PM the President will sit down with Henry Louis Gates and Sgt. James Crowley.  The beer?  As someone noted it will be "Red, Lite and Blue'…Red Stripe for Gates, Bue Moon for Crowley and Bud Light for the President.  The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that domestic beer makers are upset that all of those brews are owned by foreign companies.  Bud is apparently now owned by a Belgian-Brazilian Company.  But we digress.

While the beer summit is unique, using the White House for what Salon today calls "a casual meeting of the minds" isn't new – George Bush having Bono to lunch, Bill Clinton calling in the fueding sides during '94-'95 baseball strike, and Reagan having Michael Jackson over for a visit.

So, will the get together today work to put this whole thing to rest?  Larry Gilmore on the Daily Show had this to say: "Booze isn't how you resolve a racial incident it's how you start one!"

they should choose from product made in the USA from America’s largest brewer: Pabst Brewing Company. They could select from various product, depending on their preferences,: Schlitz, St.Ides, PBR, Country Club, Champale, and many others. Something to suit all their varied tastes can be found made in America and owned by Americans! Come on Obama!
ps: drinking Sam Adams, as suggested by some, might be considered elitist by working-class and inner-city Americans. This problem could be solved by drinking a Pabst product!

Bud Light is the closest thing to de-alcoholized indeterminate liquid that one could possibly find, and is therefore least likely to impair the president’s cognitive abilities for the rest of his 18-hour day. Logic triumphs!
The other guys? Let’s hope that they are not armed.

Everyone needs to give up on this already. Just all three of you hug, kiss, and say I’m sorry Let’s get on to more important issues like “Health Care?”…
Respectfully,
James
