Iconic Images: Today’s China Riots and Tiananmen Square

More than 140 people have been killed in ethnic riots in the capitol of China's Xinjiang province.  The riots began on Sunday when Uighurs, the muslim ethnic minority in the region, gathered to protest clashes that happened in June between Uighur and Han Chinese workers where 2 were killed and 118 injured.  The violence brings up memories and comparisons to the deadly Tiananmen Square protests in 1989.  Below are two images reflecting the comparison — the first is a picture from the current riots of elderly woman standing up to security forces.  The second is an iconic image a lone man standing up defiantly to the line of tanks during the Tiananmen Square protests.

Bravery or Madness? Maybe by the time you get to that point, it becomes a little bit of both. I’d like to think I would be that brave if need be.
I don’t remember what happened to that young man. I wonder what happened next to that lone woman?

This article totally shows your, the “Westerner”‘s, hypocrisy.
An incident where 156 people, most of of Han Chinese, people who were attacked, throat slashed, murdered, mutilated, toally unprepared on their way home from work, on a day that didn’t start any different from another, were killed in a heartless racial massacre, is equalled to am event of a completely different nature.
I now know that Han Chinese in your eyes are not any different from the Russians, from the Serbs (I confess I don’t like them), and no matter what we do, no matter what we suffer, no matter how we were massacred, we will never be, and we will never please you.
From this I also think I know the reason, the way, you Americans are hated. Being big. Simply being big.
In 911, you cried, you weeped. And this is our 911. This is not June 4th, 1989. No.
This is Los Angeles when Blacks rioted, but ten times worse.
I knew sooner or later someone would compare this to the Tiananmen photo, but when I actually see this, I can’t control myself. In my childhood America was my paradise. In 911 my heart weeped for you. Last year during the Tibet episode You puzzled me. And now I declare that should there be another similar attack on your citizens, on your people, on your fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, on there way to work, on their way home, by these same people, I don’t know what my reaction will be.
In Tiananmen I saw tanks; in this I saw blood.
No this is not Tiananmen,

This is a testament to the heartless nature of the totalitarian military dictatorship in Red China.
Until the people choose their leadership through voting for it, this will continue.
This incident is worse than Tiananmen Square because it incorporates discrimination against an ethnic minority which is being supplanted by the majority by resettlement.
Xinjiang, Tibet, Gansu, Qinghai, Yunnan, and Guangxi do not want to be a part of the dictatorship and had to be forced into a false confederation.
Long live East Turkestan! May the dissolution of the heart of communist totalitarianism fall, now!

Even when voting for a leader you do not always get whats best for a country. We have seen that right here in the USA. Once politicians get tainted by PAC money and re-election contributions it is no longer a nation for the people and by the people it is a nation of by the money for the money. Haves against Have Nots.
This is why the USA is on its way to financial ruin. No one is really willing to truly stop the greed and corruption. The hearts of men in the USA are true in some areas but sorely lacking in other areas. The area of the greed part will weaken us. We need to have a change of heart at an individual level in this country.
Return to the true morals and ethics and forget the greed. We will all be far better off.

With the passage of the following bill, America will be in the same position as Red China.
Date: Tue, 7 Jul 2009
This is the scariest thing I’ve ever seen. Pay close attention to the wording especially anything that says “as determined by the Attorney General”. Also the bottom section regarding online activity. Folks if this passes, no one that’s attended a tea party or 9.12 project or even participated online in regards to them would be eligible for the military. Nor would they be retained in the military if already serving. Basically it could include anyone “as determined by the Attorney General”. This is a takeover.
H.R. 2647 has already passed the house and this was amended to it. I don’t know when Congress will be voting on it but if anyone else does please let everyone know.

SEC. 524. PROHIBITION ON RECRUITMENT, ENLISTMENT, OR RETENTION OF PERSONS ASSOCIATED OR AFFILIATED WITH GROUPS ASSOCIATED WITH HATE-RELATED VIOLENCE AGAINST GROUPS OR PERSONS OR THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT.
Section 504 of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:
(c) Persons Associated or Affiliated With Hate Groups-
(1) PROHIBITION- A person associated or affiliated with a group associated with hate-related violence against groups or persons or the United States Government, as determined by the Attorney General, may not be recruited, enlisted, or retained in the armed forces.
(2) DEFINITION OF HATE GROUP- In this subsection, the terms “group associated with hate-related violence” or “hate group” mean the following:
(A) Groups or organizations that espouse or engage in acts of violence against other groups or minorities based on ideals of hate, ethnic supremacies, white supremacies, racism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia, or other bigotry ideologies.
(B) Groups or organizations engaged in criminal gang activity including drug and weapons trafficking and smuggling.
(C) Groups or organizations that espouse an intention or expectation of armed revolutionary activity against the United States Government, or the violent overthrow of the United States Government.
(D) Groups or organizations that espouse an intention or expectation of armed activity in a ‘race war’.
(E) Groups or organizations that encourage members to join the armed forces in order to obtain military training to be used for acts of violence against minorities, other groups, or the United States Government.
(F) Groups or organizations that espouse violence based on race, creed, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.
(G) Other groups or organizations that are determined by the Attorney General to be of a violent, extremist nature.
(3) EVIDENCE OF ASSOCIATION OR AFFILIATION WITH HATE GROUP- The following shall constitute evidence that a person is associated or affiliated with a group associated with hate-related violence:
(A) Individuals possessing tattoos or other body markings indicating association or affiliation with a hate group.
(B) Individuals known to have attended meetings, rallies, conferences, or other activities sponsored by a hate group.
(C) Individuals known to be involved in online activities with a hate group, including being engaged in online discussion groups or blog or other postings that support, encourage, or affirm the group’s extremist or violent views and goals.
(D) Individuals who are known to have in their possession photographs, written testimonials (including diaries or journals), propaganda, or other materials indicating involvement or affiliation with a hate group. Such materials can include photographs, written materials relating to or referring to extreme hatred that are clearly not of an academic nature, possession of objects that venerate or glorify hate-inspired violence, and related materials, as determined by the Attorney General.
(E) Individuals espousing the intent to acquire military training for the purpose of using such training towards committing acts of violence of a purpose not affiliated with the armed forces.

Here’s a link to this particular section on the bill.
The bill is very large and will take some time to load.
Think of anything you or someone you know may have said in an email or online that may be construed to”support, encourage, or affirm the group’s extremist or violent views and goals” “as determined by the Attorney General”. And what of the children of people on the “hate list”. Are they to be excluded from serving? I suppose that’s up to you know who. Affiliation by relation?

“The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist.” – Winston Churchill, Nov. 21, 1943
“…the man who really counts in the world is the doer, not the mere critic-the man who actually does the work, even if roughly and imperfectly, not the man who only talks or writes about how it ought to be done.” (1891) Theodore Roosevelt

Here is the difference, among others, between the two photos: that Muslim woman wearing a cloak was probably a suicide-bomber with explosives tied all over her body under that black cloak; whereas the young man in the second photo trying to block the advance of army tank convoy is a young man without explosives, meaning: Muslims are more violent and deadlier than they appear to be whereas others are what they actually appear to be.

I am an Indian living in America. The incidents in Xinjiang have deeply saddened me. As a world, we might be divided because of language and political systems but the people who die on the streets are always innocent and ordinary people.
While the Han might feel victimized and the Ughirs feel they are on the receiving end of a raw deal, sooner or later there will be peace. Then, the Han and the Ughirs will have to see each other everyday at work or in factories.
No political system is perfect. American or Indian democracy is not, neither is the Chinese system. Please give peace a chance. Our political leaders use cynical ploys to divide us. 95% of humanity slaves to keep 5% of us propserous.
But it is always we the ordinary people who die in violence. My friends, Han and Ughirs, give peace a chance. No man is a villian just because of their race or language. Consider this as an appeal by another ordinary person.

It’s shame that some people are impersonating Chinese and usin bad grammar, syntax, mispellings, etc to post their racist, ill mannered, and ridiculous diatribes. I cannot imagine real Chinese people would behave in such a foolish and insulting manner. The Red Chinese government is a totalitarian disaster and someday it will fall.

@Riz, do you know what the funny thing is?
Most of these China apologists use western-sounding names, instead of their Han Chinese names. And why is that? To add credibility? Lack of self confidence?
Of course nobody will mistaken them for westerners, since they’re very obvious in their defence of CCP policies, their “rah-rah China is good”, “rah-rah China is misunderstood”, “Western media is so biased”, etc etc… And of course, their grammar sucks atrociously…

This is not madness. It may not be bravery for the sake of bravery. It’s that there is no choice to such and extraordinary defiance.
There is a limit to which people can tolerate suppression.
Long Live East Turkestan!
