Lance Armstrong to Climb 7,200 Ft. Today

ABC’s Miguel Marquez reports from Tour de France route in Andorra along the border of Spain and France. Riders started out at bright and early this morning.  They'll ride 140 miles today, expected to cross the finish line around 11 AM ET.  Rain is forecast again today which could put riders on the slower side of that ETA.  Today the riders will hit Armstrong's favorite territory: the mountains. They'll climb from sea level to 7,200 feet.  The acutal longest uphill section is about 6 miles long. Fairly short by Tour standards but it means riders are expected to be less worried about pacing and more aggressive in picking up time. It's expected to be an intense day.   There is a massive crowd outside Lance Armstrong's Team Astana bus this morning.  Whenever the chants for Lance would start, chants for Lance's team rival Alberto Contador would follow.  Contador is 19 seconds behind Armstrong, he won the tour in 2007 and is a strong climber as well.  Team Director Johann Bruynel said in an interview that the press has overplayed the rivalry between Armstrong and Contador.  He says the team today will be more focussed on fending off attacks and challenges from other teams.  That said Bruynel made clear "it will be the road" that determines who rises to leader of Team Astana. Lance did a quick interview with some media.  Other than that he was all business.

It seems Bruynel forgot to tell Contador about the “no rivalry”. Contador sucked on the TTT. He put minimal time in the front and for a “strong man” it was obvious that he was concerned about Lance getting the Yellow Jersey. Today, Contador attacks making his teammates play defense….what a hotdog…
He may be the best mountain climber around… but today and other days show that he has no class… He did the same crap when he won the Tour in 07 to Levi. He has no class…

Why does the team seem to not want Lance to win?????? All of America is pulling for him and it would seem like the team should be also. What a shame and disgrace if the team causes him to lose. It will be the end for many fans who enjoy bike racing because of Lance Armstrong and hurt sponsorship for the team. We hope the team gets a wake-up call before it is too late.

Are TDF highlights available _anywhwere_ on broadcast or web other than the 5-minute ABC wrapup? I want the old 1-hour weekly race highlights that used to run. We don’t get cable, Versus’ website is useless, so I’ve been downloading 1-hour a day ITV highlights, but that’s a bit much.
