Rewriting the History Books for Texas School Children
The Texas Board of Education is taking a look at the history that's being taught to it's children. Some of those tasked with reviewing the public school curriculum are recommending that changes be made to what the children are taught.
Among the suggested changes: Adding more on how much faith and religion has played a role in the life of Americans. Also, they're talking about reducing how much attention is paid to the likes of Cesar Chavez (big force for labor unions).
The Wall Street Journal covered the story this morning and quoted one of the curriculum reviewers named Rev. Peter Marshall, who said, "We're in an all-out moral and spiritual civil war for the soul of America, and the record of American history is right at the heart of it." According to the WSJ, history teachers from around the state are discussing any changes and they can reject anything the team of "reviewers" come up with.

Who cares? When I was in school all I did was LEARN … TEST … FORGET (repeat as necessary). It’s not like they are going to retain everything they were taught for the rest of their lives. They want to get a good grade on a test. It just goes in one ear and out the other after the final exams are over.
