Safeway’s Plan To Get Employees Fit and Healthy

Obama needs to realize that lack of insurance is not the only reason people do not get preventative care. Insurance companies and medicare should require an annual physical to keep health insurance and that would force people (men especially) to get preventative care. They wouldn’t have to set any requirements about treatment etc, just a requirement to get that physical!

Why not give discounts to people who live healthy lives? Vegans, for example – who eat no heart and artery-clogging, cancer-causing animal products? or-as life insurance companies do- charge those with unhealthy lifestyles a premium? People live and diet by the dollar – that’s all that gets people in an uproar. Threaten their money, and they may actually improve!

How about carrying more organic foods instead of the typical junk that is in your stores.

If Obama is looking for a idea that will save real money this is IT! Working in Intensive Care I see how people are killing themselves with their unhealthful habits. Most costly, chronic conditions are caused by not exercising and poor eating habits. Diabetes, hypertension, COPD, and coronary artery disease are all very preventable diseases that are crippling our healthcare system.
I think that Safeway has an idea that should be adopted by more companies. Saving money motivates everybody.

The Japanese are considering limit the health coverage of men whose waists are larger than 32″!
Of course, that doesn’t take height into account (my waist was 32″ when I was a distance runner in high school), but there should be an incentive program say, doubling your copays if your significantly overweight and tripling it if your obese, based on height/weight charts.

Steve Burd doesn’t understand the difference between ficition and non-ficition. His company stock is trading below $20 and all he talks about is health care. Maybe he should focus on selling groceries, increasing sales, and profits.
The health care plan he talks about only covers 1/2 of the companies employees, the rest are covered by union benefits. There are no lunch rooms or exercise facilities at the division levels were 95% of Safeway’s employees work. Employees did not volunteer to give the company their personal information there benefits were surcharged until they took the exam.
At this direction his company cut employee wages and benefits, froze managers wages, increased bonus targets, reduced employee hours, and increased his own personal wealth. Steve Burd is a good example of what is wrong with today’s companies.
It’s a good idea for him to contunie to talk about health care because then he won’t have to explain his comapnies poor performance. Hey, Steve when your done with health care maybe you look at solving global warming, hunger in Africa and create world peace…You Jackass!
