‘What is President Obama doing about it? Perhaps too much…’ Quotes of the Day

“Empathy-based rulings, no matter how well-intentioned, imperil the legal system that has been so essential to our liberties and so fundamental to our way of life.” — Senator Jeff Sessions on Judge Sonia Sotomayor, in a Boston Herald op-ed, published as her confirmation hearings begin.

"This is a slam dunk." — Thomas Goldstein, lawyer who often appears before the high court and runs the blog Scotusblog.

"The swift and aggressive action we took in those first few months has helped pull our financial system and our economy back from the brink…The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was not expected to restore the economy to full health on its own but to provide the boost necessary to stop the free fall. So far, it has done that." — President Barack Obama, op-ed in The Washington Post, defending his stewardship of the economy

"What is President Obama doing about it? Perhaps too much…When I think about the economy I think about a plump man who has just been hit by a truck while crossing a street and is in severely critical condition with internal bleeding. Instead of just stabilizing his hemmorhaging, the doctor decides…he might as well also do a face lift, some coronary bypasses and a stomach-stapling…After all, a crisis is not to be wasted." – Economist Ben Stein, writing in The New York Times

Sen. Sessions (and all senators) who are pre-disposed to vote No on Sotomayor because she professes “empathy” need to cite a specific case where Sotomayor has used empathy over law to decide a case. I will bet they can’t. And if they vote No anyway then they are not doing the job they were voted in for……For Sessions to suggest empathy = prejudice is ludicrous….You can be prejudiced without empathy and empathetic without prejudice….the two are not equal…I will say though, that I would rather be in front of a judge who understands my situation as an individual rather than treating me in the abstract as it seems many Republicans are suggesting…Treating individuals in the abstract allows them to support corporate rights over individual rights..

So according to Indy Voter, corporations are always wrong and individuals are always right. Well that’s objective pretty much like empathy is objective.

Obama thinks he stopped the free fall of the economy, I don’t think so what little recovery we have seen is just natural correction as things near the bottom of a free fall.
The level of we recovery we have seen could have been achieved without running a trillion dollar deficit for the first time in history.
Who is indicating socialism now? Not the extreme right but the liberal press sees it coming!
