After 148 days of imprisonment in North Korea, Euna Lee and Laura Ling stepped off an airplane onto American soil this morning. They immediately hugged their families and greeted everyone gathered on the ground. After a few minutes, Bill Clinton exited the plane, embraced Al Gore and said hello to the families on the ground.
"I am very happy that after this long ordeal, Laura Ling and Euna Lee are now home and reunited with their loved ones," Clinton said in a written statement. "When their families, Vice President Gore and the White House asked that I undertake this humanitarian mission, I agreed. I share a deep sense of relief with Laura and Euna and their families that they are safely home."
Ling spoke of the moment she and Lee realized they were going to be released.
"When we saw (President Clinton), we knew that the nightmare of our lives was coming to an end."
