McCain’s a ‘No’ on Sotomayor

Sen. John McCain announced on the Senate floor today that he will vote against Sonia Sotomayor's nomination for the Supreme Court.  McCain's stance mirrors many republicans who plan to oppose her nomination, but breaks with his long-timy ally, Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-SC.  Graham and McCain usually vote along the same lines, but Graham has already said publicly that he plans to support Sotomayor's nomination.

McCain said that he can't support an "activist judge" who imparts her own opinion into her legal decisions:

"Again and again Judge Sotomayor seeks to amend the law to fit the circumstances of the case thereby substituting herself in the role of the legislator."

"I cannot support activist judges that seek to legislate from the bench."

"Regardless of one's sucess in academics and level of service, An individual who does not appreciate the common sense limitations on judicial power in our democratic system of government ultimately lacks a key qualification for a lifetime appointment to the bench.  For this reason, and no other, I am unable to support judge Sotomayor's nomination."

McCain is a typical ethically and intellectually bankrupt Republican. Clearly, he was prepared to sell this country out by running an incompetent like Sarah Palin. So much for “County First.”

McCain’s once-admirable legacy will never recover from its last stage, starting from the night he put his country at risk for political gain by chosing Sarah Palin. What a shame, he had a noble career up until then. Now, I can’t even recognize the man to whose campaign I contributed money in 2000.

Was there ever any doubt? He has proved how stupid he is when he ran for president.
The Anti-American Party of No; collective ignorance.

It’s his right to cast a partisan vote, just like Obama did while he was in the Senate.
But I wish they’d all get off of this whining about Judges exercising their Constitutional power as ‘legislating from the bench.’

That giant sucking sound reported earlier today in Arizona was thousands of Hispanic voters leaving the McCain camp. Former Sen. McGrumpy will be appearing as a guest on S.Palin’s talkshow in January, 2011.

Alas he is the vet who did not vet… He listened to spin-masters about putting Palin on the ticket-thus showing America that he truly wasn’t ready to be the POTUS. The GOP is flailing; if they don’t make some serious changes….

Gee there is a surprise. McCain or any Republican and the word NO.
What is this old man still doing in office anyway? Hell, he probably has a hard time making it through a meeting without falling asleep.

Uncle Fester is at it again! Trying to act like he matters. It’s OK, Cindy will buy you a something pretty and shiny!

It is Senator McCain’s right to express his opinion just like that old Teddy Kennedy.
We all know what Teddy did, but now he’s the wise old senator from Boston, Mass.
I suggest that the democrats look in their own yard for dirt, and please don’t spit up – it’ll come back to you.

McCain is “ancient” history. He and all the other Republicans are just kissing their political futures good-bye. Hispanics are becoming a voting force to be reckoned with and they won’t forget the treatement Sotomayor has received at the hands of the Republicans.
Oh well, it couldn’t happen to a bunch of nicer people.
McCain should retire to one of his 7 or so houses.

I support Sen John McCain’s views and presentation on why he can’t support an “activist judge” who imparts her own opinion into her legal decisions. I concur, just vote No for Judge Sotomayor’s confirmation. We have hundreds of elected representatives to make our laws. We do not need a nine person panel to use their personal belief systems to overrule our elected representatives.

I typed ‘just like that old red-nosed Teddy Kennedy’. The nose comment was erased. Why? He does have a red nose.
I didn’t say how he got it.
Is it okay for the democrats to degrade McCain and other Republicans? Is that it? If ABC is going to edit my comment, then please edit the democrats’ derogatory remarks as well.
Fair is fair. Or is it?

Thank you, ABC, for leaving my opinion intact.
You are fair.
