The Morning Meeting: Abortion & Health Care Reform, Cheney On Bush, A Possible Lockerbie Reprieve, & “All You Can Fly”

Mixed bag of news this morning: Once again we're covering the town-hall debates across the country, and offering up another in our "Fact Check" series of stories about health-care reform. Tonight, the allegations about abortion and the pending legislation.

The good news, bad news about the economy this morning: Good — Germany and France lift from recession, and the Fed Policy Board's forecast spurs some buying on the markets; not so good — retail sales (WalMart of particular note) fall flat; and home foreclosures spike.

Ghosts of the past administration in the news: Former Vice President Dick Cheney airs grievances with former President Bush; and Lynndie England (the young woman in the more notorious photographs from Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison) says what she did was no big deal.

Following on our report from the front lines of a Marine assault in Afghanistan yesterday — the Taliban launch a counterattack this morning, and the incumbent Hamid Karzai says he'll win reelection as President in next week's vote.

Finally, a Lockerbie bomber may go free for medical reasons, Jet Blue announces a strange "all you can fly offer," golf and rugby are nominated as new Olympic sports, a wake is held for Eunice Kennedy Shriver, and the remains of Navy airman Scott Speicher finally come home. Stay tuned…
