A President’s Plea To The World: Save My Country

Maldives' president, Mohamed Nasheed, addressed the UN climate change conference today about his nation's plight.  He spoke of the danger facing the small island nations saying that if sea levels continue to rise, "we will die, our country will not exist."

ABC's Karen Russo interviewed Nasheed last March about the critical impact of climate change for the tiny nation.  Take a look…

“Ok, I am game…..just what does he propose that we do about that????” – Rick McDaniel
Rick, I think he wants the developed world to spend a Kazillion Dollars and put a giant sun shield in earth orbit or maybe launch enough dust into an orbit between the Earth and Venus to cut back on the amount of sunshine that hits our rock.
If we do that does everyone on the planet get a free vacation in the Maldives?

Here in New Orleans we’ve been begging our government to fight coastal erosion between New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico. We’ve been pleading our case way before Katrina hit. Look how many lives it would have saved and the amount of money and heartache it would also have saved IF our government had listened to Louisiana’s needs.
The United States only re-acts to consequences instead of taking care of the problem in the first place.
Will our government pay attention to Louisiana citizens now?
Coastal erosion can be fixed; it does take money, but in the longrun it will save a lot more lives and money.

Facts are stubborn things, and the fact is sea level rise has been steady for the past 8000 years, except for the last 5 or 10 where SLR has nearly stopped due to cooling oceans. It has been well documented that the Maldives have been sinking. Sea level rise is yet another false bogeyman in the whole AGW warming propaganda arsenal.

Obama and his people did promise change…WOW…that’s one thing they didn’t lye about but I’m really scared about the future of our country. What the Hell is going on here…Please slow down…Please. Go print a million dollars for yourselves and take a 3 1/2 year paid vacation…It would be cheaper and safer for the future of our country…no joke.

No other comments about Louisiana?
We didn’t take care of the problem – coastal erosion – take care of that and there’ll be no ‘Katrina’-like destruction.
Don’t you make the connection? Louisiana has had no other hurricane like Katrina before August, 2005.
Our coast was buffered by land and slowed down any hurricane that made it to the New Orleans area.
Since the subject is ‘saving our country’, I thought I would plug Louisiana’s giant problem in there.
Is anybody listening?
ABC, this would be a very good cause to take up if you really wanted to.
