Closing Arguments: Dick Fuld a Year Later

Nearly one year after the historic bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, a Reuters reporter tracked down former bank CEO Richard Fuld in Ketchum, Idaho. Fuld, who became the face of Wall Street greed amid the economic collapse, said he wants to tell his side of the story, but no one will listen. He expects a new wave of criticism on this anniversary. "They're looking for someone to dump on right now, and that's me," Fuld said. So tonight, we ask: Was Dick Fuld simply a scapegoat for the recession? Or was the blame justified? Tell us what you think. You can follow "Nightline" anytime on Twitter: http://twitter.com/Nightline.

Possibly one of the worst CEO’s in the history of corporate America.
Agree that he was a scapegoat? There is no amount of blame commensurate for a man who cost thousands their jobs, destroyed a huge financial institution, and was such a difficult person he represented the one of the only institutions the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department would not go near, and allow to fail.
Lehman was as connected to other financial institutions, and had just as systematic an effect in collapse, as other firms that were saved. Fuld’s reputation prevented it from being saved.
The man belongs in prison “a year later”.

Who else should be the scapegoaat and dumped on, the night janitor? This man brought down an over 100 year old company and deserves to be in jail for all the anguish and financial damage he caused to others.

I don’t believe Mr. Fuld’s is a scapegoat. He’s just one of many crooks involved in the banking and investments business who see himself of doing “no wrong!” It was just “business!” Right! Of course if he hadn’t done what he did any number of unscrupulous people like him would have or did “screw” the American People!

Yes, I do believe he is a scapegoat, he’s taking the heat for all of the other “Big Boys” who’s ass’s were saved because he got caught first! Why was it that Goldman/Sacks and the other Financial Companies get saved, maybe because George Bushes Financial Secretary who was managing the bail outs was a former employee of Goldman/Sacks who help orchestrated many of the programs that led to the financial downfall of our Financial System. He’s the one that should be put in prison for the rest of his life, he was the one that drew up the bail out agreements that saw to it that all of those CEO’s and Executives still got their bonuses then and they will again be able get those bonuses because thousands of other employees lost their jobs, their life savings, their retirements, their health care and their dignity because those nimrods at the top deserve to be rewarded for their greed, stupidity and the failure of our Financial System. The Bush Administration should also be put in prison for helping to work the system to their advantage and taking advantage of the American Tax Payers, by lifting any and all restrictions that allowed them to do whatever it took for them to lie and manipulate fraudulent investments that weren’t worth the paper they were printed on. Yes, Mr. Fuld’s ass should be canned for the rest of his life but he should be kept company by all of the rest of those A-holes who sat in their multi-million dollar penthouse offices and did the SAME DAMN THING HE DID!

What is Fuld doing outside of prison walls? This greedy, rank incompetent jerk nearly caused the collapse of the world economy and financial system, which would have led to the whole world going into anarchy. Even now, most of us have lost most of our life savings and jobs due to the misguided criminal conduct of Fuld and his kind. Put this man in prison now, before he does any more harm.

While we cast blame at Fuld, Lehman Bros.,Goldman /Sachs, and others let us not forget to save some of that “ire” for the members of the Fed and the regulatory arm of the Federal Reserve and Congress who sat on their collective asses and allowed scumbags such as Fuld,Madoff, Geitner and Bernanke [I could name many more, but the list goes on and on] and the rest of the wall street bums to perpetrate their treasonous acts on a trusting public!!!! Prison is too good for these people….they should be stood against a wall and shot… In any other country , they would be…

This guy wants to tell his story while he sits in his multi-million dollar mansion. He should be sitting in jail right now along with his other crooked cronies.

Richard Fuld, I wonder how Lehman Bros. tolerated this ignorant, arrogant human being as their leader for so many years. It does not say much for the company. Does Mr. Fuld know the meaning of moral responsibility? Judging from what we have seen of him, I doubt that he ever has or ever will.

Richard Fuld, like many other bankers, KNEW that mortgage-based securities were worthless, yet continued to sell them to unsuspecting investors. He was caught in a trap of his own making and went down in flames. But he was worse than incompetent. I have no doubt he should be doing hard time in prison for his various frauds, together with executives at the rating agencies, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and numerous others.
