Closing Arguments: Iran’s Nuclear Intentions
President Obama — along with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown — accused Iran today of building a secret uranium enrichment facility. This comes a day after the U.N. Security Council had passed its latest nuclear non-proliferation resolution. Now, it's up to Iran to open that facility to investigators or face the consequences. President Obama said he would not rule out a military response. So tonight, we ask you: Do you believe Iran is building a nuclear weapon and if so what should the US do about it? Tell us what you think. You can follow "Nightline" anytime on Twitter: http://twitter.com/Nightline.

Yes, I do think Iran is building nuclear weapons and the US needs to stand against them. If not, I’m afraid many people will loose their lives in this country.

Yes, they are probably building a nuclear weapon. The U.S. and other countries should apply meaningful sanctions.

It seems obvious that Iran is building a nuclear weapon. If the sanctions don’t convince the Islamic Republic to stop, the government of Israel will likely exercise its right of self defense in a preemptive fashion and this may include an Israeli nuclear weapon with limited yield to destroy the facility where the uranium is being enriched. Hopefully both Israelis and the UN take steps to forewarn the citizens of Iran of the situation and the possible outcomes. This may generate enough internal political instability to rectify the situation or at least attenuate it to some degree.

Unfortunately, Iran can never be trusted. Even if they dismantle their underground nuclear facility (that we know about), they are probably already building another facility (that we don’t know about). And, the fact that the facility we’re concerned about was made public suggests mis-direction and subterfuge: in other words, this facility is probably nothing in comparison to the facility that we don’t know about, that may even be further developed than the facility we do know about. Rogue nations like Iran make non-proliferation treaties useless. Face the facts: Iran is probably hoping to wipe North America off the map. We can either rely on wishful thinking, or we can prepare a military response. Iran doesn’t fear the U.S. nor Israel. Their primary concern is how quickly they can develop and deploy long-range missiles with nukes. Evil will undoubtedly prevail for many generations. A swift, forceful response is necessary. The only question I have is who will exercise said response first: Iran against the U.S. or the U.S. against Iran. Time will tell.

Iran may or may not be developing nuclear weapons; but I think it is time for OUR Country’s Leaders to come on back down to reality, and sensible decision making.
Our previous President and his team took us into a war with Iraq based on lies and misinformation about weapons of mass destruction that did not exist. The war in Iraq cost thousands of American men and women major injuries, death; and strain and destruction to their families in addition to bringing this country to almost totally financial ruins. And instead of improving our position and image to the reminder of the world, it created major damage to our relations, position, and image in the world.
And after we put outselves in a position that we couldn’t back out of, it turns out – Sadam couldn’t admit to not having those weapons of mass destruction because of his fear of weakening Iraq’s position within the middle east.
We, The United States of America is the greatest and best country in the entire world; but folks, we still have major portions of our military resources committed to two other wars. If our government leaders and news media would be honest with us, they would report the actual very high numbers of our US military who have been and continue to be critically wounded; and report the information about how understaffed and equipped out troops in Afghanistan are. But President Bush refused to send sufficient troops and resources into this war; and while President Obama has sent some token support, he too refuses to send our troops the resources they need to do the job we’ve asked them to do. So much for Change President Obama!!!!!
How many wars do our absent minded so called leaders in Washington, and irresponsible news media think our military can properly fight at one time? How much further can we stretch our resources, and still expect them to do the excellent job they have done for us? Just how far do we believe our leaders can force their ways, methods, and demands on other parts of the world before countries like China, Korea, Russia, Iran, others, and the various terrorist groups decide to unite and take us on from several directions to try to force us to our knees?
And as great and powerful as we the United States of American is; do we really believe we can be engaged in all of our current commitments, start another war for weapons that may or may not be there, and defend ourselves against all of the countries flexing their muscles to replace us as the world leader?
Sorry, but time has come for President Obama to deliver on his campaign promises of CHANGE – YES WE CAN -Stop copying President Bush – No More Wars!!!!

THE UNITED NATIONS SHOULD BE REGULATING IRAN, FOR ANY VIOLATIONS. NOT THE UNITED STATES VIA PRESIDENT OBAMA. OBAMA IS THE LEAD PERSON/SPOKESPERSON AND NOT SPEAKING, AS FOR THE UNITED STATES ONLY, I HOPE NOT. THE OTHER COUNTRIES OR NATIONS, SHOULD BE LEADING ANY CAMPAIGNS AGAINST IRAN,IF IRAN IS, IN ANY VIOLATIONS AND NOT THE UNITED STATES. UNITED STATES IS OUT OF MONEY AND ALREADY HAS 2 ACTIVE WARS, TO FINISH AND COMPLETE, WITHOUT STARTING A 3RD WAR,OR ANOTHER CONFRONTATION. THE UNITED STATES SHOULD NOT BE THE LEAD COUNTRY OR NATION, WITH IRAN OR ANY OTHER IMMEDIATE WORLD ISSUE !!! PLEASE PRAY FOR WORLD PEACE AND WORLD HARMONY AND WORLD PROBLEM SOLVING METHODS. ANYONE CAN START A FIGHT, BUT TO FIX THE PROBLEM, IS THE REAL ANSWER. WHERE IS THE UNITED NATIONS? A SLEEP AGAIN?THANK YOU FOR READING THIS COMMENT.

ALL NATIONS AND COUNTRIES NEED TO PARTICIPATE AND ASSIST WITH A PEACEFUL PROCESS AND ABATE,THESE VIOLATIONS AND ISSUES AFFECTING OUR WORLD AND UNIVERSE.WHAT IS THE UNITED NATIONS’S ACTION? WHAT IS THEIR SOLUTIONS? AND WITH REGARDS, TO THESE VIOLATIONS AND ISSUES? UNITED NATIONS’S PAST PRACTICES, HAVE REFLECTED, A NO ACTION RESPONSE AND NEVER IN A “TIME IS THE ESSENSE” AGAINST ANY KNOWN VIOLATORS, AS IN IRAN’S SO-CALLED VIOLATIONS!ALL THE WORLD WARS WILL NEVER STOP THE NEXT WAR. THANK YOU FOR READING THIS COMMENTS AND BE PEACEFUL,PEACE BE WITH YOU.

I agree with Israel’s current minister of defence: Iran, with or without nuclear weapon, is not particulary a threat to anyone. The best way to deal with Iran’s dictatorial regieme is to stop threatening her and thus allow the growing resistence to the current government within Iran to grow. We would also do well to take seriously Iran’s proposal to make the Middle East a nuclear free zone. Iran, by the way, has not initiated a war with anyone during the past two centuries.

Yes, I believe Iran is building a nuclear weapon and will have it very soon. We need to be prepared to remove its components prior to its being completed. Other measures may be tried in the meantime and will probably be ineffective, but we absolutely must be prepared to help Isreal take it out prior to its completion.

The apparent inability of most of those commenting on this to question the pap we Americans are being fed by our governmentally subservient media is appaling. Pakistan’s nuclear weapons present a far greater danger to their neighbors than the unsubstantiated nuclear weapons of Iran. Given that fact, I wonder if any of the above commentators would object to a pre-emptive strike against Pakistan?

We need to come to agreement quickly with a group of nations who are willing to back Israel and make clear (in private to allow Iran to save face) that a series of airstrikes will occur if prompt and transparent efforts are not made to cease and desist with nuclear work. If we don’t do so, Israel will strike regardless, possibly with nuclear weapons.

Of course, Iran is trying to get nuclear weapons, by whatever means they can. The US should team with other nations who the Iranis would use the nuclear weapons on and perform inspections. If the Iranis block the inspections, then there should be a total international economic and social boycott of Iran. Starve them out! Any country found violating the boycott should also be boycotted.
If the Iranis do succeed in attacking someone with a nuclear weapon, Tehran should be destroyed in a full-scale nuclear response.

Since Iran is a sovereign nation, as we are, no one has a right to enter their nation without permission and look around for nuclear or any other issue. Would the U.S. like the idea of foreigners snooping around our country?
Until Iran is a direct threat by actions to American lives or property, we should take no military action. If we do, then we become aggressors like communists and other immoral rulers.
The best guarantee of peace is to be prepared for war so that no nation would risk attacking us. Who appointed us to be the Globo-Cops of the world?
