Closing Arguments: Time for a Democrat to Say ‘Sorry’?
First, Democrats demanded and received an apology from Republican Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina for calling President Obama a liar inside the U.S. Capitol. Now, Republicans — and at least one Democrat – want an apology from a Democratic member of Congress for this: "If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly," Rep. Alan Grayson, a first-term Florida Democrat, said. "That's right. The Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick." Grayson was criticizing Congress for dragging its heels on health insurance reform. So far, he has stood by the comments, apologizing instead for the health care crisis, which he called a "holocaust in America." So tonight, we ask: Should the congressman apologize for his remarks? Tell us what you think. You can follow "Nightline" anytime on Twitter: http://twitter.com/Nightline.

“for calling President Obama a liar inside the U.S. Capitol. ”
It was more for interrupting the office of the President when he had the floor to speak. Rudeness has been around for generations in Congress, but there is not record of such a breach of procedure towards the co-equal Executive Branch.
Grayson had the floor to speak on the topic of healthcare, he was not shouting down or trying to silence someone else’s allotted time, and he did not resort to vulgarity or name calling. The Republicans should quit their strategy of whining and perhaps respond to his actual accusations with something factual. And trot reform (already fully implemented in many states, such as Texas) and allowing cross-border purchase of health insurance (like California isn’t a big enough market to achieve scale already???) are both ideas that the CBO has analyzed and found to address only a fraction of the problem.

He wasn’t disrespectful he was telling the Truth!
Posted by: Eric | October 1, 2009, 12:10 am 12:10 am
No he doesn’t owe an apology. Republicans have been dragging out health care reform for years. Reform doesn’t fill their wallets. Reform doesn’t get their campaigns financed. Meanwhile Americans are dying or getting sicker and the republicans drag it on and on in hopes that the next election will regain them control.
Don’t apologize for making comments that are true.

He was right on. Rebpublicans are fighting health care for Americans
tooth and nail. Every day average
Americans are dying because of the
lack of health care.

Posted by: Rudy Serra | October 1, 2009, 12:12 am 12:12 am
He should not apologize. The Republicans who just say “no” are really saying they don’t care if 50 million people are not covered by health insurance. They should apologize!!
Posted by: jerome mcnerney | October 1, 2009, 12:12 am 12:12 am
I do not think he should apologize.
I think that with all the talk of death panels and such, that the view he expressed is exactly how many Americans think their health care system sees them. We are no longer patients needing help, but bodies running up bills that seem unpayable to most people. If you do not have insurance in this country, the care you get is less that the best. In some cases, even with insurance, care is denied if the insurance company refuses to pay for a certain treatment. I thought doctors should decide care, not insurance adjusters.
Posted by: Kimberly P | October 1, 2009, 12:12 am 12:12 am
Why should he apologize for telling the truth? Republicans care so little about those in need, including other Republications who suffer without insurance. They enjoy being heartless. Their shock is that someone actually said it!

No apology needed for telling the Truth! Maybe we should put Rep Alan Grayson in charge of Healthcare Reform and get it done now. Enough of this Right Wing BS!!!!

no..he should not apologise!!!!
various republican congressmen/women have said the same thing i.e. healthcare reform will lead to senior citizens dying etc, all year long. this has not led to a demand for an apology from ANYONE. so why now? because he’s a democrat censuring republicans????
Posted by: smilz | October 1, 2009, 12:12 am 12:12 am
Absolutely no apology from the Democrat! – a lot of difference in what Joe Wilson did and what the Democrat said. It’s not anywhere similar!!!

Since when does an American with the freedom of speech have to apologize for vocalizing his point of view on a certain subject. Maybe if everyone would quit worring about what has offended them and actually get to work on something important then there would be no time to whine about unimportant comments from other people.
Congress needs to grow up and stop acting like a bunch of kindergarden children.

Finally, a Democrat with balls who is willing to tell the truth. Let’s face it, the Republicans are so out of favor that they’ve got to try all kinds of outlandish tactics just to get noticed. I’m more afraid of the reticence of the Blue Dogs.

Why should Grayson apologize for telling the truth about Republicans’ health care plan? He should apologize for using the term “holocaust.” Maybe he should have said “tragedy.”
Posted by: Max | October 1, 2009, 12:13 am 12:13 am
Grayson should not have to appologize. He is stating that the repulicans are not working with obama on a reformed healthcare system.

I totally agree with jhw539. Excuse me, Nightline, what about all the times Republicans have been on the floor, with cameras rolling, questioning his citizenship, his religion, plus so many slips of the tongue that were downright insulting. Please give me a break, Nightline!

He needs to apologize to the republicans. Just because you don’t want the government to run your life doesn’t mean you want people to die or to be uninsured. There are other solutions but they are not heard because the liberal media does not allow it to be heard.
Posted by: Lori | October 1, 2009, 12:14 am 12:14 am
Actually, he isn’t completely accurate. But, he is close enough to the truth that he is making the republicans upset, so that is why they are so angry. But, the fact is that both sides of the aisle are deeply beholden to the insurance and pharmacy, and lawyer industries, which is why the american public has gotten so much misinformation and has been so manipulated into thinking that we will somehow lose something that we don’t really have.
Posted by: anon | October 1, 2009, 12:14 am 12:14 am
How is this any different than the ‘Death Panels’ scare tactics the the Republicans have used. I think he was being a little tongue in cheek about how ridiculous those types of tactics are.

If we are going to reform healthcare should we rush it or try to reform it to the best of our ability.
I am not saying I am for the healthcare revison, but I am saying this isn’t something that is done over night.
Calling this a holocaust in america is over the top and a poor choice of words. The holocuast was a time that was unimaginable and shouldn’t be compared to the healthcare controvery.

Posted by: rich | October 1, 2009, 12:15 am 12:15 am
ABSOLUTELY NOT! there is a significant difference is delivering a crafted argument in the appropriate forum and disrespecting the PRESIDENT OF OUR COUNTRY when he is addressing the senate and our nation. that the repubs would even suggest that this is worthy of an apology is indicative of how low they are willing to sink for ANY kind of press. disgusting.

While the use of the word “holocaust” was not helpful, Grayson did make the correct apology already, to those of us who do not have insurance who are dying every day while health reform is delayed. By Republicans AND Democrats, I might add. Aboslutely no need to apologize to the Republicans for their refusal to participate meaningfully in this debate.
Posted by: lg | October 1, 2009, 12:16 am 12:16 am
Why should Congressman Grayson apologize for using the word “holocaust” when this word means mass slaughter or complete destruction per dictionary.com. When we have over 45,000 lives lost per year because greedy insurance companies would rather make money, this word seems quite appropriate. The word “holocaust” is not owned by the surviving Jews so lets not get so overly sensitive.
Posted by: Jack | October 1, 2009, 12:16 am 12:16 am
There was a time when what was send on the floor of congress could start an argument, a heated debate, or possibly a duel. But to invoke the need for an apology? Sorry. Opinions are opinions for a reason. Now, if he had thrown an insult at a particular person, then that person could possibly request an apology. But for the “party” to request an apology? Please.

Mr. Grayson said nothing to apologize
for, though I think what he said was a bit of a misstatement. I believe that most Republicans don’t really care how quickly or slowly anyone (without health care) dies as long as it doesn’t affect them or their wallets.

No,he should not apologize. Hyperbole abounds in the back and forth between members of Congress, and if every member had to apologize everytime they made an over the top statement, even less of the people’s business would be transacted than is now. Grayson’s statements in no way compare to the willful and unprecedented disrespect shown to the President of the United States, who was, in fact, a guest in the House.

The “Just Say NO” party is helping the health insurance company’s strangle America! At least we can say the Republicans has a grip on one end of the rope and the insurance companies have the other. While the insurers feed the legislature’s millions to get their way, the sick and needy are left to die. HELP! Democrates don’t fall for their tricks, we’re watching you!

Should we start a list of names of all the other elected congresspeople who have made similar statements either pro or con and ask them all to apologize.

NO! He should not apologize and I hope he does’nt. Because what he said is basically the truth. The only reason the Republicans are against Obama’s healthcare plan, is simply because its a Democrat President’s idea. If George Bush or any Republican was in office and had the same exact healthcare plan that Obama does, they would be behind it 100%. Accept for the ones that the Insurance Co’s. have in their hip pockets of course.

He is telling the truth. I live in the state of Florida and am a healthcare worker. I have been for 28 years. This state does not care and I think the Republicans do not care either. I have wanted government healthcare the entire time that I have been an RN because I have seen the abuse by insurance companies, specialty physicians and an monopoly healthcare systems, which is the only system in Central Florida.I cringe at the posibility of retiring in this state. I’m sure I will be thrown to the dogs.

The Congressional Budget Office has wrongly scored the plans that provide preventative care as being the most costly because they keep people healthier and living longer. The Republicans have blasted those plans which means they are tacitly endorsing plans in which people die quickly and at a young age.

Grayson should apologize because he is stating lies. He clearly doesn’t understand the whole picture.
“Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all.” –Frédéric Bastiat

NO, Grayson should be commended for standing up for what is right. He should not apologize for telling the truth. I think he should ask all of our senators and representatives how they like their government healthcare that they belong to, and why all Americans cannot join their health care system. He should also ask that all of them contribute the donations and bribes they have received from health insurance and drug companies to start a public health care system. This way they can make their decisions based on what is ethically right, and not what companies are paying them to do.
Posted by: adam | October 1, 2009, 1:35 am 1:35 am
No, he should not apologize! He has only graphically expressed what the Senate Committee’s vote actually means to millions of American citizens, and what the Republicans have made abundantly clear for years: Money is their bottom line! The Health Insurance Industry is spending our premiums to insure that they will keep their 400% profit margins, rather than the health of this country’s citizens. Republicans do not represent their constituents, but those who fill their campaign war chests.

But then BUSH/CHENEY push (& lie to) us into IRAQ and bingo we have plenty of money/TRILLIONS to go to war and send to Iraq to rebuild their country while American citizens are still dying due to a lack of that “unaffordable” healthcare. Republicans should applaud Grayson for saying it like it is! Without healthcare, dying quick is at best the least painful way to go. The apology should come from the politicians who have taken money from insurance companies and compromised American lives.

It’s Great finally the truth is out…
We need a change and as usual the Republicans are trying to rape & screw our people… And a Public Option is the best way to go.
After 8 years of Bush and his reckless spending -L@@K- where we are.

i know the left wing has a problem understanding that the reason health care is so expensive is because it has to subsidize medicaid and medicare, which are getting ready to go broke.its not the republicans fault that the left has to make everything about the government.

Wow, I know know why I don’t normally watch ABC news after reading most of these comments. Grayson’s remarks are just grandstanding because NOBODY ever heard of him. I guess outlandish is popular with liberals though….

Why should he apologize for speaking the truth. I have never thought americans (Latino born in California realated to people here before americans came) could be so ignorance and vote against there best interest wish i had the funda to immigrate to a country whose people care about each other and not subjugated by so called christians who feel profit should be in medecine

Grayson should apologize. Perhaps if the congress and senate cannot produce a readable proposal in English to be published on the Web for the American public to read before they vote on this important issue as healthcare maybe we should not trust the government to run our healthcare. Maybe Grayson’s version of Healthcare is “Let’s hurry to jam down the American’s throat”.
Posted by: Robert Bella | October 1, 2009, 3:21 am 3:21 am
I don’t think he owes anyone an apology. But he got it wrong. Republicans want you to use up all your money/savings on doctors and drugs and then die quickly once your out of money.
Nightline should ask the “God fearing” Republicans what they think Jesus would instruct them to do regarding healthcare reform.

as far as i can tell the rich left in this country is about stealing from honest people and pulling the ladder up behind themselves so they can maintain their exclusive club of controlling peoples lives.

Absolutely not! The Republicans are just being big babies about his comments, realizing the truth hurts. And, using it as yet another way to delay a decision which will benefit the whole instead of just themselves. Not to mention it’s one thing to disrespect the President and quite another to be addressing other Congress members in a forum which calls for truth and negotiation. They picked the wrong battle.

NO! Why should he have to apologize for telling the truth? Everything about what the Republicans are doing is a lie! Everything they’ve done for the past 8 years has been a lie! They don’t even know what the “TRUTH” is because they’ve based their whole agenda on HUGE LIES and refuse to take any responsibility for what they’ve done to this country by paving the way for Wall Street and Big Banks to bleed the American people to feed their insatiable greed and lust for money. Of course they don’t want to “fix” what’s wrong with this country, that would mean having to take some responsibility for it and that’s just NOT in their character. The whole Republican Party should be the ones to apologize to the American People!

It’s miss-guided to say the republicans want you to die quickly. The Republicans were only paid off by the insurance companies, who want you to die quickly. This is really more a case of a seedy financial agreement selling out the American populace by the Republicans to the insurance companies. We’ve been sold out. Unfortunately, some democrats have also taken the payoff. I’m not surprised, it really is business as usual. If Obama gets to close to stripping the multi-billion dollar insurance companies from their livelihood, they will probably attack him politically, if not physically. Can anyone say J.F.K.

No one has asked the Republicans to apologize for their numerous outrageous and/or false statements in those chambers. It’s about time a Democrat used a little hyperbole to express his frustration (and mine!). There is no reason for him to apologize to our bought off “representatives” who have not only wasted time but, in doing so, have shown they have no interest in saving lives.
Posted by: Michelle | October 1, 2009, 3:26 am 3:26 am
Finally, a Democrat who is standing up and standing firm. We need such a leader to keep Democrats from growing complacent. We have to get out the votes in 2010. We must never believe it’s over just because Republicans can SHOUT out lies and distortions. Democrats have to develop a spine. No more Mr. Nice Guy
Posted by: Louise Chandler | October 1, 2009, 3:26 am 3:26 am
You don’t apologize for the telling the truth! ..Republicans always refer to their own comments as “standing for what you believe in!” Their primary motivation is to present an obstacle to whatever the agenda is. …all you’ll ever hear are complaints after fear tactics after lies with absolutely no intention on making any true strides.

The very same people in power are the ones that made the laws and failed to watch out for the taxpayers in the first place. I say we should wipe the slate clean in the next election and start with all fresh faces. Have the politicians figured out how the bail out dollars are going to get paid back—oh, that’s right- the taxpayers. Health care reform without price controls are a sure fire way to insure the insurance companies get richer. How many average americans are better off since all the money has been spent bailing out the big companies? We not only need health reform but government reform! I’m an unemployed taxpayer with a $1545 a month health insurance payment….

Yes he should apologize. How arrogant for him to say such things when the bill is written that more people will be losing coverage. of the 40 million so-called uninsured, some personally pay their bills and do not need insurance. Why pay for insurance when you can afford to pay it yourself. About 15 million of them are illegal aliens and do not qualify for American tax funded health care. If they want health caare they should return to their country of origin. Then you have the 18-30 year olds who think they are invincible and would rather buy another case of beer than health insurance. of course, the government will make it illegal to not have health insurance so I guess they will be forced to pay for health care or go to jail. Hmmmmmmm. Then there are those that truly need assistance. Well, they can be covered by the Republican plan ALREADY IN PLACE for those who can’t get health insurance because of previous connditions. It costs a bit more than the lower risk insurance but they would have insurance.
The obamacare plan will deny coverage for about 15 million seniors who pay for their own extra supplemental insurance. Instead of paying to an insurance company (which if shut down would put millions out of work), they will have to hope that there are doctors and workers who will take them.
Just the facts. No distortions. No lies. and ….illegal aliens will get free care, Obama did lie. Just watch the health care committee in action. Every plan proposed by the Republicans are shot down with party lines. Beware people, this is not about health care it is about POWER.

Why didn’t Nightline show videos of Republicans using similar language in Congress regarding the Democratic Healthcare Plan? Rep Brown, R-FLA, said that the Democratic plan “will kill people.” Rep Foxx, R-NC said that seniors will be put in a position to be “put to death by their govt.” Rep Ginny Brown-Waite R-FlA said that the Democratic healthcare plan says to seniors to “drop dead.”
–So why would Grayson have to apologize while Republican representatives are trying to scare vulnerable seniors with lies.
Grayson is right!! The only Republican that is trying to make a positive contribution is Senator Olympia Snowe.

The only thing SICKER than the Health care issue is the lack of “care” by the Republicans in Congress. Rep Grayson deserves a medal for having the only voice courageous enough to speak out the truth! After listening to the trash about Death Panels, taking away medicare, socialism, etc.. all the blatant, despicable lies, so that Insurance companies can keep lining the pockets of these frauds. A refreshing moment of shining light finally ascended in Congress. The only time besides the election, I was cheering out loud. I’m feeling healthier just hearing what he said. The nerve of comparing someone telling the truth to the outright, outrageous LIAR Wilson is, in calling the President one–How about lying to Americans to get us into an unnecessary WAR? Where’s that apology?? Bravo Alan Grayson!

No apology or censorship for speaking in proper order and manner. The emperor has no clothes. We’ve been waiting for someone to say what we’ve been thinking. When Republicans were in power 8 years they offered NOTHING in spite of decades of documented medical-care, denied-access, and coverage atrocities. Hundreds of thousands of medical bill bankruptcies occur each year while 30,000+ otherwise hard-working people including children in Medicare capped-out states are allowed to slowly die because they can’t pay for treatment or medication (or come up with their deductable and co-pay if they have insurance), not to mention the suffering and disability of those who are sick but not terminal. Test this by asking for any treatment without insurance. Emergency rooms only provide acute care to stabilize a patient. No chronic care, therapies, chemo, bypass, cataract, joint, or valve replacement surgeries, burn grafts, transplants, and on and on, or even insulin! If you and your family aren’t covered under a low-deductable, non-cancellable (GROUP)medical plan you do not get care unless you pay up-front. Republicans claim to be against rationing, euthanasia, and “death panels” but assure that these de facto atrocities continue for those who can’t pay in spite of liquidating all they own and taking on enormous debt while the lobbyists and screamers drown out the cries from the vast majority of Americans who need or will need medical care.

That’s totally ridiculous to think there is any reason Rep Grayson should apologize. He had the floor to speak, he was trying to make a point by being dramatic and exaggerating, but he didn’t make any personal attacks, interrupt anyone, or break any ‘house rules’. And, he’s right!
I’m so sick of republican politicians being over-the-top ridiculous (a la Franks, etc.), it’s depressing. Exactly who was demanding an apology? Sometimes the House of Reps seems like a freak show.

I’ve always thought of the republican party as the “law of the jungle” or “survival of the fittest” party. That’s okay if you have the education (usually with the help from your parents) and as long as you can avoid serious illness or injury. However, should you fail to stay healthy their mantra appears to become “suffer and die, sucker” until you end up on life support and the it becomes “life at all costs”. Serious inconsistency with some insanity thrown in.

Well,Americans who have even a mild pre-existing condition are DENIED healthcare by the so called SCAMS known as insurance companies.
Thousands DIE without prompt affordable healthcare today. He should have used stronger language to tell the what is the real truth. And what he did say, was mild in comparison to the despicable swift boating Republicans.

Rep. Grayson is absolutely honest and correct and should not have to apologize whatsoever for anything he said here!!! Republicans are unfortunately petty nitpickers who can’t take truth about their own faults, failures, or shortcomings. Disappointedly I hate to point out that while Independents and Democrats are NOT PERFECT by any means, the Republicans unfortunately are too often chronic intractable exaggerators, fear-mongerers, copycat parrots of each others’ rhetoric, gossipers, bashers, maligners, propagandizers, distorters and too frequently contriving in blowing up, misrepresenting and nitpicking about their opponents to suit themselves regardless of the truth of facts. Republicans always really ill-wish, HATE and DESPISE their opponents and wish them always very bad, “ill” or failure because it’s an ego trip WAR for them to be the winning Republicans in power. They claim to be SO socalled “conservative, pro-life and for limited government” but where in HELL were they all to save and spare all our precious irreplaceable soldiers’ lives from continuing abhorrent death tolls in war from President Bush’s mal-executed, devastating wasteful extremely dangerous Pandora’s Box Quagmire Bottomless-Pit Can-of-worms Mismanaged Reckless War upon Iraq without a grasp of the true deep cancerous dangers of Bush’s initiation of war!!! While Democrats may be too “liberal” and tolerant on out-of-control unfair illegal immigration which is absolutely UNFAIR to ALL American citizens and too lax on properly securing our borders as should have been accomplished immediately following 9-11 on President Bush’s watch, the socalled “conservative” Republicans primarily constantly harp and rant about saving their own necks, wealth, taxes and health with little concern for their less fortunate poor struggling homeless American citizens or how to pay for and survive devastating, reckless mal-executed wars they have NO skills or strategies for effectively achieving favorable results.

Why should Grayson apologize? Isn’t the theory behind the Republican party that people should take responsibility for themselves? The logical consequence of this theory is that those who cannot (in this case, purchase insurance) suffer from the result of being unable to assume that responsibility. Granted, it did not sound good to make this statement and have others hear it; however, you have to be willing to deal with the good, bad and ugly of what you champion.

Ridiculous….Republicans don’t know the difference between rudeness in the chamber (calling out liar during a presidential address) and normal outlandish remarks made between members in debate from both sides. Besides, I think the Congreessman has a point….Republican hearts’ are simply not in improving healthcare…Never has been. Whether they want people to die simply is an extreme exaggeration of that fact….
Posted by: indy_voter | October 1, 2009, 9:07 am 9:07 am
Slightly over stated but close to the truth. Republicans job is to insure the rich get richer and to hell with the rest. In other words if you are poor or middleclass and can’t afford health you don’t deserve it period.
Posted by: Ellen | October 1, 2009, 11:49 am 11:49 am
I don’t think the question is should he apologize, the question should be…”does he really believe what he said?” The sad fact of American politics today is that the majority of politicians are trying to get the best soundbite for the daily news. To think that any politician wants people to die is really absurd. Furthermore, that some American people agree with this guy is astounding. The real problem in the USA today is that most people have lost the ability to think.
Posted by: Ken | October 1, 2009, 11:51 am 11:51 am
Greyson is results oriented and has little tolerance for whiners in our government, just as the American people have little tolerance for this display of ‘out of touch with reality’ group. Let him ‘call a spade..a spade’ and tell them to finally earn their salaries. If this were a group of all women, you know what these men would have them ‘tagged’ as! Grow up guys, get to work. Either give the American people the same healthcare benefits YOU have, or agree to have the same benefits you are ‘cooking up’ for the general public.

Prime examples of 1st amendment gone wrong.
Posted by: Chet | October 1, 2009, 12:41 pm 12:41 pm
This comparison is akin to apples and oranges, actually no, its akin to apples and shoes…they have NOTHING in common with each other.
First of all, Martin Bashir was incorrect last night with stating that Rep. Joe Wilson apologized to Congress, in fact he refused to and was slapped with a formal reprimand from the House. He only apologized to the President, and that AFTER being forced to do so by his party’s leadership.
Back to the comparison, Rep. Joe Wilson was breaking House rules in his behavior, it was disrespectful to the entire group assembled, AND has been proven that it was he who was wrong NOT the president. His remarks were nothing more than name calling and were an attack directed towards a specific individual.
The only mistake that Rep. Grayson made was using the word Holocaust, as that word really is only for a specific event and time. But everything else he said was in fact, the truth. The GOP has yet to offer up and sort of real solution or plan, they have done NOTHING constructive towards addressing the health care crisis, only choosing to obstruct at every turn. Rep. Grayson made the only logical conclusion one can make from such behavior, that the GOP sees nothing wrong with the current system, for those of us with out coverage or adequate coverage, too bad, don’t get sick! I refer you to the conversation between Rep. Cantor (R-VA) with a person about what to do if one has cancer and no job…his solutions were charity and well, the government, but he will vote against THAT when back in DC.
Finally, we would do well when we see the GOP demand apologies to look over their behavior as of late and see if they have the standing to make such demands…how many times has the GOP accused the Dems and the President as being anti-American, wanting to kill seniors, wanting to indoctrinate our youth in some anti-American idealogy, or WORSE…Rep. Virginia Foxx called Matthew Shepard hate crime “a hoax”, did she ever apologize, or did she just offer up the old non-apology verbage sorry that you took the wrong meaning from my words standard!?!
I applaud Rep. Grayson for his courage to speak the truth and to be straightforward in expressing that truth. We would do well to have more leaders like him in Congress!
Posted by: Lori | October 1, 2009, 1:47 pm 1:47 pm
Lori, I’m not sure that Martin said that Wilson apologized to Congress. I know he said that Wilson apologized, which he did to Obama.
The bigger problem is the lack of respect from either side–and I have beeb a registered Democrat all my voting life.
Now I’m getting ashamed to be an American.

There is disturbing evidence of something very ugly in the senate and it’s becoming more and more obvious. I cannot believe you senators would come out so naked in your true intent!
We the people, now more than never, have discovered who “our” representatives truly are. There must be a profusion of money going around to force out such a show of loyalty toward soulless corporations. And yet, we know who you are now, we know your names and where you stand for!
It is evident that representatives do not represent the constituents anymore; you do not represent us but the corporations from which you take orders and money!
In millions we voted for President Obama, so we obviously voted for health reforms too. Where are these reforms?
Maybe the power of the people vote is no more, maybe you will get away with this, but mark my word: this is a two way deal, if the representatives do not represent us any more it is like they would not exist anymore, their power and our power goes down together!
Grayson is showing he is not one of them, there is a distinction and a separation between greed and truth, and nobody should ever apologize for the true!
SOLUTION – Mr. President, keep only one thing: alternative health care provided by the government. The PUBLIC option. Leave everything else as it is, if so they like.
“Insurance” was never made to provide basic care. Insurance might have been useful and friendly in the beginning, like a watchdog in the house, but it has been allowed to eat without control, to the point of becoming a monster threatening to eat away our own flesh. I say let us starve the beast, let it test a bit of its own medicine.
Whoever believes we should be freed from the beast, should stop paying the overpriced premiums that keep all the insurances alive, now.
Just name the month, Mr. President, and we’ll take it from there. Let us show them who the real boss is. They are nothing without our money! Let us starve the monster, let us make it weak, and when it is humbled, then we will talk.
Just name the month! Let scare them as they scare us! Let us leave them as they leave us, without a choice or a shred of hope! Let us show the Insurance Companies and the senate, which now are one and the same, that they cannot take away the power of our vote.
A multitude voted for You, Mr. President, because of the promised health care reform, and when summoned, we surely would have said yes to your proposal, and we are a big number! It seems you are our only representative now, not the republic, not the democrats, but only you, you are our eyes, our ears, our only power.
Just name the month, Mr. President and we will destroy greed with the only thing they understand: MONEY! Should they retaliate and cut our own fictitious insurance coverage, then you will have the excuse and the power to give us the Public option, which we clearly expressed our desire for!
