Sam Champion Learns How to Paddle Surf

Today on "GMA" Sam Champion told us all about how he spent his summer vacation: Learning to paddle surf with pro Laird Hamilton.

Known for going to the extreme in everything he does—like riding 100 foot waves—Hamilton’s latest challenge is spreading the word about paddle-surfing.

The sport got its start in in Waikiki in the 1960s, but Hamilton and his fellow extreme surfers are taking it to a whole new level.

"I’ll never say we invented anything. I’ll only say that it’s a new application of an old idea," he said.
