Closing Arguments: Afghan Runoff and Obama’s War Strategy
The investigation into fraudulent ballots in the Afghan presidential election is nearing conclusion — and ABC News has learned that President Karzai's original vote total is decreasing. If that number dips below 50 percent, there'll be a runoff votewith his chief challenger, Abdullah Abdullah. The runoff, which appears likely, could happen within two weeks or could be pushed beyond winter. While a runoff may provide more legitimacy to the Afghan government, it may also complicate President Obama's decision about sending troops into war. So tonight, we ask you: Should President Obama delay his decision on whether or not to send additional troops into Afghanistan until we know who the country's legitimate leader will be? Tell us what you think. You can follow "Nightline" anytime on Twitter: http://twitter.com/Nightline.

This will help explain US foreign policy:
McArthur said “do not get involved in a land war in SE Asia” Ike said “beware of the military industrial complex” We wouldn’t follow their advice & look at the results!
Now listen as Gen. Clark (former Head of NATO) can hardly believe what he hears

Regardless of the Afghan leader, The forces have to stay in place until the Afghan government can defend itself and its people, so expect a long occupation. Until then it is a breeding place for the terrorist organizations and warlords of that region. Sorry but it is the reality of the situation, there is no short term answers to the conflict and bringing the troops home will only cause more damage. We need fight them on their own turf or have them end up here, possible in your city. Been there, family is there now and going back. It is the last place a loved one wants to be or have one deployed there. So President Obama absolutely needs to send more troops now! Stop the complaining and back the government and troops defending your freedom and way of life. There is far more at stake than the average citizen realizes or is aware of. It is an absolute most do!

Absolutely not. Send the troops now. Our fellow Americans are dying in Afghanistan now, because the war is being fought to prolong the war rather than to win it. Let’s get those troops over there now and win this war and save some American lives in the process.
It has nothing to do with the election runoff. The fact that their election system is a sham just adds fuel to the fire to win this war. Come on, Obama. Send another 250,000 troops to Afghanistan and reinstate the military draft permanently. We have other military crises for you to address, not the least of which is securing our southern border with Mexico. Get to work.

I fear that the current mood of “foot dragging and dithering” on the part of Congress and the Obama administration is putting our troops more in harms way. Their election results should hold no sway on whether to send more troops to Afghanistan. As McCrystal’s assesment pointed out, these troops are needed to wage an effective counter-insurgency strategy. Whatever the outcome of their election, our leaders will have to deal with it. The O-teams vacillation on the battlefield and his political damage here at home is proving costly to the men and women who are fighting and dying on a daily basis in Afghanistan. This war is getting a bit “long in the tooth” and solutions are needed to bring it to a halt. Obama…Give them what they need…DO IT NOW!!!
