Education Secretary Arnie Duncan and Attorney General Eric Holder were in Chicago today to talk about a “plague” of violence that is taking children’s lives

The Justice Department took the opportunity to release a study with a pretty staggering finding:  More than 60% of American children surveyed are exposed to violence.  The author’s definition of “violence” is extremely broad – do you experience it, a family member, your school?  But the point is that many of our nation’s children are living amongst violence.

Our reporter in Chicago spoke with Dr. Dennis Vickers, the chairman of pediatrics at Sinai Children’s Hospital.  Dr. Vickers, who sadly deals with children with gunshot wounds, had this to say:  “The kids in our community, it’s not even a question of what they’re seeing on T.V. cause they’re seeing it in their front yard.  They’re seeing is on their way to school, they’re seeing it in their living room.”
