AND BEST A25-54 DELIVERY IN 8 MONTHS

“NIGHTLINE” BESTS “TONIGHT SHOW” IN TOTAL VIEWERS 14WEEKS IN A ROW

“NIGHTLINE” GROWS +23% AMONG A25-54 WEEK TO WEEK WHILE “TONIGHT SHOW” DECLINES -26%

ABC News “Nightline” placed second among Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the week of September 21, 2009, according to Nielsen Media Research. This marks the fourteenth consecutive week “Nightline” outperformed “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.” The last time “Nightline” outperformed “Tonight” fourteen weeks in a row in Total Viewers was in 1995. NBC’s “The Tonight Show” experienced the program’s lowest total viewer average since at least the 1991/ 1992 season. Additionally, “Nightline” experienced its highest total viewer delivery in almost a year and best A25-54 delivery in eight months.

“Nightline” continues to experience growth week to week and year to year. The program grew +4% among Total Viewers versus the same week last year, as “Tonight” in comparison declined -49%. Week to week, “Nightline” increased 23% among Adults 25-54, 28% among Adults 18-49, and 15% among Total Viewers as “Tonight” in comparison declined –26% among A25-54, -27% among A18-49, and -27% among Total Viewers.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Cynthia McFadden, Terry Moran and Martin Bashir. John Donvan and Vicki Mabrey are correspondents. James Goldston is the executive producer. The program airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m., ET on the ABC Television Network.
