Obama Wrestling With That Afghanistan Question

"The president has and wants to hear from all of those that are involved in decisions about protecting our homeland, keeping our country safe, as well as the deployment of our men and women in uniform," said Robert Gibbstoday.

He's hearing from those sides right now at the White House.  Members of Congress have gathered with President Obama to talk about the overall mission in Afghanistan and whether or not to deploy more troops to the troubled nation.  The debate over Afghanistan has been growing since the general in charge there submitted a request for more troops.  Tomorrow the President will meet with his national security team.

ABC's George Stephanopoulos summed up things on his blog "Bottom Line" (read the post here):

"'Afghanistan:  Not all in or out'.  That's what administration officials emphasize to me.  Even if the President sides with Vice President Biden, the number of US troops in Afghanistan will stay about where it is now for some time. Even if he sides with Gen. McChrystal, the US will pull back from outposts like the one in Nuristan which came under attack this weekend."

What to do? Follow the advice of your trained and dedicated leader in the field; General McChrystal. Give him what he wants and more. Take that defensive holding action we’re in now and put hundreds of thousands of shooters in the field and kill anyone who resists with arms. Then move into Pakistan Tribal Areas without warning in massive and multiple hammer and anvil actions with air power and destroy any vestige of Enemy resistance. Any hesitation on our part will confirm the Enemy’s reckoning the US as weak and it will only re-multiply their efforts. Decisive action is the key! We must destroy this menace to world peace and western civilization once and for all or we will be attacked again and again. Never ever forget that Afghanistan is whence came the enemies that brutally murdered 3000+ American Civilians on 9/11/01. Lastly since we know where the money and arms to fuel the insurgency is coming from, we must turn on them publically and warn of the most severe retribution should they not now cease and desist in their actions of the last decade and publically join modern western civilization.
