Palin — ‘Going Rogue’, and Helping the Democrats
ABC's Stu Schutzman reports from New York: The Republican Party may be at somewhat of a crossroads in, of all places, rural upstate New York. A special election in new York’s 23rd congressional district has become a lot more special since Sarah Palin joined the fray. The seat was vacated in September, after President Obama tapped Republican Congressman John McHugh to serve as Secretary of the Army. Local party bosses chose Republican Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava to replace him. The Democrats put up attorney Bill Owens. And as a potential fly in the ointment — there’s Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman. The GOP establishment, as expected, overwhelmingly supports Scozzafava including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who is personally campaigning for her. Democrats, including the President, support Owens but with little expectation of victory — a Democrat hasn’t won the 23rd since 1871. But the odds may have just improved. Sarah Palin, says The Daily Beast, is “going rogue” again. Voters in the 23rd “are ready to shake things up and Doug Hoffman is coming on strong,” posts Palin on her Facebook page. Palin and some other influential conservatives are bucking the party regulars and throwing their support and money to third party candidate Hoffman. “I can help him win,” writes John Mccain’s former running mate, “including having my political action committee, SarahPac, donate to his campaign the maximum contribution allowed by law.” Palin is a sure shot in the arm to tea party activists and other conservative groups across the country working on Hoffman’s behalf — groups that are using this race, says Politico.com, to test their “political muscle” against the GOP. (A republican party which has “lost it’s way,” says former House minority leader Dick Armey). New York’s special election, says Armey, is a “game changer.” These groups have singled out Dede Scozzafava, who they believe is too liberal, and they have started a national “Dump Dede” campaign. “They’re all making a concerted effort for Doug Hoffman,” says Erick Erickson of Redstate.com, “and they’re making New York a last stand.” Erickson told Politico, “New York should be a hill to die on for conservative activists.” Bill Owens, the Democrat is now leading in the polls. By siphoning votes from Scozzafava, Sarah Palin and company may actually accomplish something Democrats haven’t done in 138 years…elect a Democrat.

Just a small off year election at the end of the day. The question is what happens in 2010, when seats that mean something come up. Will Teapartiers have the same impact as the left equivalent, Moveon.org?

I decided to vote for the conservative prior to her announcement.
No way was I going to vote for a MODERATE republican who for all practical purposes could of ran as a democrat.
An upstate voter…

ABC only wishes that Palin was/is helping the dems. She is helping conservatives. She stands for all that the ‘feminists’ want, but she is a conservative, and, consequently, they heap derision. No different than when a person of color stands for and practices conservatism – derision and other personal attacks are initiated.

Palin drew crowds that almost matched obama’s when she had only campaigned for 2 months and he was on the campaign trail for 3 years, yes I do. This is also despite the fact that the media villified her while worshipping BO.
Palin also out-debated a sitting senator of 35 years that was viewed by 70 million people when she had only been a gov for 2 years. Pretty impressive.
Also, according to Rasmussen polling today, BO’s #’s have dropped faster then any other presidents in 50 years. That’s not so impressive.

@ JonnM what debate were you watching? she made a complete and utter fool of herself, winking like she did, winking like that is cute if youre running for student body class president, she has never even come CLOSE to the number of people who come to see President Obama speak, 70 million watched, it was a national debate, all of the people who tuned in to watch were not watching Sarah, she cant out debate anyone, she couldnt even mention one magazine she read when she spoke to Katie Couric, she didnt even know what the Bush Doctrine was and you have to nerve to think she could ever be POTUS? stop drinking the kool-aid

I understand Sarah’s being upset with the Republican Party. Except for empowering the Dem Party overall if the Dem candidate is a much better person, patriotic, and constitutional then why not send a signal to the knothead Socialists trying to take over the Republican party, you know-knothead
Socialists no different than those in charge of the Democratic Party.
For everyone who likes the ‘free ride’ government gives them – REMEMBER – you may be the taxpayer complaining about the giveouts at your expense when you wake up to reality. Reality? Yeah! Government runs off your money and mine. All the redistribution of wealth is a con job to get votes and favor. Just REMEMBER, “It is fun to spend others money but HELL when you have to pay the bill for that giveaway!!!
Money does not grow on trees and the only thing that the Constitution guarantees you is the ‘right to PURSUE happiness’ not an entitlement.
Man, if you could con people into giving you your money, get a dribbling back, and keep a lot of it to build your business then you might be very successful – of course at other people’s expenses. Con? Convict? Congress? How similar!

Palin 2012 to 2014 1/2…
Even if the Democrats win, the GOP will get the seat back in 2010 and they don’t need anymore votes in the house so this is a non-issue. IOW, who cares…

What percentage of Americans are actually card carrying members of either party? Just because “registered” American voters had voted one of the candidates in does not mean that the majority of Americans are affiliated with the winning party. If a candidate runs for office, has their head on straight, remembers their oath to protect the constitution, and enforces the laws fairly then I’ll vote for them. I’m not one of those euphoric groupies that follows a pied piper.

David, I must say that your Borg-like mentality is fascinating at times. Remember their mantra:
We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile.
Your ranting is eerily reminiscent of that. I ask you to also remember that…
THEY WERE DESTROYED!

Palin’s strategy to move the Republician party farther to the right won’t work. Just as Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson can’t move the vast majority of Democrates to the far left. She is limited intellectually but, we all watch and listen because she is beautiful and the media loves pretty people and train wrecks…Which in this case is one in the same! For all you Bubba’s out there, she won’t win any election outside of relocating herself and her family down to South Carolina…AND if the GOP party starts to head the way of her and Rush, the whole mess will appeal more and more to a very targeted deep South core… Whenever anyone talks about us verses them…instead of how all can work together…You know, bringing the vast middle core of common sense Americans together…You lose…
Posted by: Hockey Dad | October 23, 2009, 7:38 pm 7:38 pm
Palin writes:”Doug Hoffman stands for the principles that all Republicans should share: smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense, and a commitment to individual liberty”. Leave it to our media to think smaller Govt, lower taxes, and a stronger defense, is somehow out of the main stream. Once again our media is out of touch with Americans.

Palin, the journalism major who never read a major newspaper and who took six years to graduate from 5 different schools. Palin, the governor from Alaska who didn’t know about the Supreme Court Case of Exxon vs. Valdez. Wink, wink, by gosh, darn it. Palin, whose radical husband belonged to a secessionist group who wanted to secede from the Union, the same Union that purchased Alaska in the first place from Russia and the same Union under a great Republican President named Abraham Lincoln that fought our bloodiest war to prevent southern states from seceding from the United States. What has happen to the common sense moderates in the Republican Party? We actually need honest to goodness fiscal conservatives in our government, but the neocons in charge of the R Party now are hopeless reactionaries and not fiscal conservatives when it comes to handing out billions to their richest friends. Bring back Teddy Roosevelt, the first president to ask for real health reform and Dwight Eisenhower, who would tax the greedy b_______ from Goldmann Sachs at 91%.

“She enjoyed 83% approval in Alaska”
Sarah Palin’s 83% approval rating is ancient history. Her Gallup favorable rating is now at 40% and even lower in other polls.
“In few months she became very wealthy”
Haven’t heard that one before. Please enlighten as to how she became wealthy in a few months after quitting.
“After Chicago thugs filed numerous phony, frivolous ethic charges,
she was cleared of every one them”
Not quite. The legislative Troopergate investigation found Sarah Palin guilty of an ethics violation. Hours after the report was released, Palin responded with a blatant lie. “Well, I’m very, very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing, any hint of any kind of unethical activity there,” she told reporters.
Palin was cleared in a separate Alaska State Personnel Board investigation of the Troopergate fiasco. Keep in mind however that the governor’s office appointed the Personnel Board members, and Palin herself had the power to fire them.
In another ethics complaint, the case was resolved by virtue of a “settlement agreement” rather than being cleared. Palin agreed to repay nearly $10,000 in taxpayer money that had been used to cover trips for her children. Her spokesman said she was also committed to repaying any back taxes involved. Then too is the issue of back taxes due on more than $17,000 of improper per diem payments that she hadn’t reported as income.
And your claim about Chicago thugs is garbage. Of eighteen complaints, all but two were filed by Alaskan residents or Alaskan groups. Of the two non-Alaskan complainants, one was a Washington D.C. group and the other remains unknown because the complaint was filed under a fictitious name.

Palin does get on the dems’ nerves as evidenced by all of the attention she gets. She wrote a book. So what?
Rush is a radio ham. That’s it.
Look at MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.
She’s the flip side of Rush.
None of it makes a difference.
I do hope Pres. Obama can deliver what he promises. It’s a win-win situation.
I do not want America to be “run into the ground”. Nobody does – or at least most people don’t.
It’s Saturday night. I’m going out soon. I suggest you do the same.

You Palin haters have forgotten that Obama doesn’t even know how many states there are in the union! He thinks there are 57! He also said that AARP had endorsed his health care plan when in fact they had not. He also can’t give a speech without a teleprompter! If he has to give a speech without a teleprompter he just stands there and stares with his mouth open! He obviously doesn’t pre-read his speeches and has no idea what is in them until he takes the platform to give them and then just reads them from the teleprompter. Sarah at least knows what is in her speeches before she gives them and doesn’t just stand there like a deer caught in headlights!
Posted by: JimVgirl | October 25, 2009, 2:08 am 2:08 am
SAYWHAt You are WRONG! McCain wouldn’t have received nearly as many votes as he received if it hadn’t been for Palin! I voted for McCain, though, because I saw him as the best choice of the two candidates even if he is old and sick. Most people just saw him as a senile, sick old man especially when compared to the much younger and healthier Obama. I don’t think Palin hurt McCain’s candidacy one bit! In fact she helped it!
Posted by: JimVgirl | October 25, 2009, 2:27 am 2:27 am
JimVgirl, You are mistaken. I voted for Obama, but I still respected McCain. He served his country with valor and strength. His own people couldn’t stand Palin because they saw what a Moron she was. Believe me McCain’s age had nothing to do with his loss, it was just a distraction. Just as Obama had his distractions, like Avers etc. McCain had a fighting chance against Obama, he is a great Senator who really cares for this country. However, when his move to pick Sarah backfired on him, he lost. People will tell you they didn’t’ vote for McCain because of the possibility of Palin as president. She can’t take the heat when the going gets tough. You don’t see Obama quiting because it’s too hard to be President. Look at all the crap he has to take, yet he stays focused. Sarah Palin will never get elected to any office again. Mark my words.
Posted by: SAYWHAt | October 25, 2009, 10:06 am 10:06 am
Palin won’t get elected. That’s a given. There will be people who will put her up for nomination, but she won’t win the nomination.
Palin is in it strictly for the attention and money. We all know that, but some won’t admit to it.
It’s kind of funny that people STILL get worked up when Palin’s name is mentioned. She is no longer an official. She wrote a book.
The dems are helping her sell her book.
I’m certain that Ms. Palin thanks you.
Posted by: ddg | October 25, 2009, 12:14 pm 12:14 pm
Let her make her money, this is American after all. Obama wrote his book and won a Grammy, my guess she won’t win squat. If Sarah needs money she has a right to earn it, even if her book is utter nonsense. But she will never win an election and that is the most important thing to a Politician. She is still a politician right? Maybe? Not for long. She will have her audience, but she will never govern anything but her checkbook. If we had no Sarah Palin, who will Tina make fun of, we need a pit bull with lipstick to pick on. You Betcha!! God she kills me!
Posted by: SAYWHAt | October 25, 2009, 4:00 pm 4:00 pm
Palin does have a right to write books and throw her hat in the ring if she wants to. Anybody can try to do the same here in America.
I bet she thanks her detractors, because they are selling her book for her. She doesn’t need a trophy, but I’m sure the money is good, you betcha’!
(and a fistbump to her audience)
Posted by: xtz | October 25, 2009, 5:20 pm 5:20 pm
Ooh that was good! Your retort was as Sharp as Sarah’s would be, lame. Any fool can make money, look at Limbaugh. But again we won’t see Sarah winning any elections any time soon, or any Trophy for that matter, she couldn’t even win her beauty contest. She is just a mouth piece for people who are intellectually challenged. It’s obvious you can’t read because I stated that she has a right to earn her money any way she can as long as it’s legal. But don’t kid yourself, she won’t be around for long. Her inability to express herself intelligently will be the end of her political career. She will just be another rich pundit, and those are a dime a dozen. The funny thing is rich people are never satisfied with just money, they always want more and more always means power. What could be more powerful than the presidency?? That is something she will never achieve.

I love how Democrats try using reverse psychology on the topic of Sarah Palin. “She’s a gift to the Democrats…I hope she sticks around…I hope she keeps talking.” The fact is that you liberal realize that her ideals resonate with great numbers of the American people. What scares you about her is the fact that she is anti-Socialism, anti-Big Government, anti-Tax & spend, and anti-Surrender to terrorists.

PLEASE COME BACK SARAH! Do for the GOP what you did in the last election. I’m praying that she appears at every GOP Rally in 2010. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SARAH Make your presence loud and clear. She’s the best weapon the Democrats have against the GOP. That “Us” against “Them” rhetoric and divisive talk will again turn the stomach of every true American that strives for us to truly be the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. That message sounding out against the message that says “There isn’t a RED America, or a Blue America, but the UNITED STATES of AMERICA…” will again be defeated by those who want to chart a destiny greater than what our weakest links can provide. So I’m grateful to Sarah Palin for her contributions. I used to ignorantly think that those divisive people who still judged based upon the color of your skin were pretty insignificant, but now I see that they are thriving and represent a strong segment of the country, though not the overwhelming majority. Like roaoches they have started to crawl out of their nests hidden in the crevices of this country. If she and those that follow her don’t think we aren’t smart enough to understand those “code” words of “Us” and “Them” “THEY” should think again. I challenge any of “US” to go to a gun show wearing your boots, wranglers, confederate belt buckle and a Sarah Palin 2012 button and see who will come to you with their supremacy literature and posters with bulleyes on them with some of our country’s current highest elected official’s pictures on them. Then you will see who the true supporters of Sarah Palin are. She’s pushing for the “Birth of A New Nation.” That may actually be her underground campaign slogan in 2012
