Swine Flu Vaccine is Finally Here. Are You Getting it?
It begins this morning. A hospital in Memphis and one in Indianapolis are among the first spots in the country to vaccinate for the H1N1 Swine Flu. The first batch of vaccine – at these two locations – will be Flu Mist and it will be given to hospital staff. In the days to come the first wave of the vaccine – again mostly nasal spray – will begin arriving to doctor’s offices, pharmacies and health centers across the country. It will be a trickle at first but in the weeks ahead millions upon millions of doses will become available.
That’s the logistics of getting the vaccine out. But whether people take the vaccines is another question. The CDC is concerned about hesitation (and outright refusal) on the part of many Americans towards getting the shot. The nation’s health officials say the vaccine is safe, that it is a variation of the normal seasonal flu vaccine, which is well tested and understood, and that Americans should get it. Still, a recent survey found 6 in 10 adults say they are not getting it, as well as 4 in 10 parents who are saying no. The vaccine is 100% voluntary. Thoughts?

Nope. I am going to let someone else have mine. Maybe someone with a compromised immune system due to eating corporate processed foods.

In their wisdom, the government has determined, that over 64 yrs. of age, need not take it. That simply means that the government under Obama, deems the elderly, not worth worrying about.

I’m not getting the flu vaccine. I’ve never had a flu shot, and have had the flu once in the last twenty years. I wash my hands frequently, use hand sanitizer, and use a neti pot daily to wash away allergens, bacteria and viruses.

I’ll get shot later this month. I get the standard flu shot for the same reason I’ll get this flu shot – as an hourly paid worker (billable hours are a bit different than when I punched the timeclock at McD’s so many years ago in school, but the no sick pay, no vacation pay is the same), the cost is trivial compared to losing a week of work. I would probably get it anyhow since I do have asthma, a 2 year old, and a pregnant wife, enough risk factors to justify it, but at the end of the day the memory of that week I was laid up with the flu last time is why I have got shot ever since (and made two decades with no more flu, knock on wood).

In REALITY, those over 64 years of age have been clearly shown by the data to be at significantly lower risk of infection from this variant of flu. The reason why is not proven at this point, but it is hypothesized that they picked up some resistance from an old strain that was immunologically similar.
Once again, the hard right shows no embarrassment about looking stupid or being caught telling an utter lie if it gives them a chance to sow fear and hatred.

(For anyone with poor google-fu, just one percent of the US flu victims have been 65 or older – since the elderly are traditionally the high risk group for flu, that is astonishing. Of course, for the STANDARD seasonal flu shot the CDC recommends anyone over 50 be vaccinated and places them in the top priority group if there is any vaccine shortage. So you should still get mom and dad down for the standard flu shot!)

Swine Flu vaccine. Is it available in Nassau County, Long Island New York?

When the H1N1 flu vaccine becomes available in my area of Nebraska, I plan to get it. I am also getting the regular seasonal flu shot as well. I can’t afford to get sick and have to miss work, and after reading of the symptoms of this virus, I don’t want this!

I had my swine flu vaccine yesterday. I have chronic health problems (immune problems, underwent chemo this year) and there is no way I want to risk getting this flu. The vaccine carries far less risk than the flu.

no one in my family will be taking that obsurd vaccine, ive seen the back of the lable, it uses thimerisol as a preservative, this mercury based substance is banned in russia, japan, and several scandinavian countries, because it has been proven that the component causes several types mental disorders. also the H1N1 virus is contained in the vaccine… no way hosay
