Charlie Gibson…On This Thanksgiving

At the end of our broadcast tonight Charlie Gibson shared some thoughts on this Thanksgiving:

So many American soldiers and Marines tomorrow will be thinking of home, so many at home will be thinking of them. It has been a difficult year all around.  Hopefully by next year many more Americans will be working and have even more blessings for which to be thankful.

Is Charlie still with ABC? I thought he was asked to quit because of his poor journalism.

Sue,
Charlie is a GREAT journalist. He is better than Brian Williams and Katie Couric! those two are poor journalists.
I’m sorry that you have this take on him.
Will
P.S. Charlie made a very nice statement.
Thanks Charlie for all you do!

Yes. It was a nice statement. I do wish you luck, Charlie.
I hope that we all see better times soon. We should even pray that our “enemies” soften their hearts.
May The Lord show us the way home, and may we all open up our hearts to hear His Words.

Whenever students in my media or writing classes at University of Phoenix ask for my opinion on the best journalist in the business, I respond, “Charlie Gibson.” Charlie – or Charles as a more formal anchor name – worked his way up the ladder. I remember all those stand-up closes in front of the White House or State Department from Washington after he conducted a tough political interview in his early days of reporting. I remember his soft humor and kind nature from years with “Good Morning America”. Now he will end his career, rightfully so, as anchor of the evening news. It is here that I will remember his touches of humanity when delivering bad news and ending many newscasts with “The Person of the Week” that often recognizes the little-known heroes of everyday life. Whenever I hear comments about bias in the press, I ask my students to watch Charles Gibson. More times than not, they return to class believing there really is such a thing as honest journalism.
