Exclusive Video: Inside a Taliban Attack in Afghanistan

It was one of the deadliest attacks of the war in Afghanistan — in July 2008, Taliban fighters attacked a remote U.S. outpost near the capital of Kabul, killing 9 U.S. soldiers.  ABC News and the NEFA Foundation have obtained never-before-seen video of the ferocious battle as seen by the Taliban.  It shows an enemy well-trained, organized and prepared.

ABC’s Senior Foreign Correspondent Jim Sciutto has the full story on tonight's broadcast.  Take a look.

Dear ABC News,
I am a loyal fan because I find your news balanced and presented with good moral judgment. Tonight was different. What were you thinking when you decided that watching militants kill our marines was news worthy? I think it is news worthy to understand how dedicated and committed these militants are but showing them in an attack murdering our boys and girls is disrespectful and over the line. I am so offended I’m not sure I will remain a loyal fan.

It wasn’t marines…it was Army. They were 9 BRAVE soldiers.

This happened during President Bush’s watch. We were too busy fighting an unnecessary and illegal war in Iraq and searching for non-existent weapons of mass destruction.

I have a bit of a military analysis background, and think this is a sham. I cannot imagine a squad of Marines or soldiers allowing a four quadrant penetration, and find themselves penned from overwhelming overhead fire. Five thousand years of military history screams that it can’t be so.

My one observation after watching the video last evening on ABC News was “where was the close air support”? As a former forward air controller, the most critical situation is “troops in contact”. These troops should have been helped.

They are “thinking” about moving away from such unpopulated areas? What were we guarding? The hills?
Those kids were ducks sitting in a pond. The hunters were in their duck stands picking them off.
p.s. The only reason the enemy was calm was the fact they were well above their prey. The villagers tipped them off.
I say leave the whole herd of them to stew in their own juices.
p.s.s. Karzai and his brother are going to change and Afghanistan is going to be “free”.
Tell me another one.

The broadcasting of this video is a show of poor judgment.
The sad outcome of nine US military deaths should have been cause to keep this one on the shelf.
Shame on ABC for spotlighting the enemy.

This video shows how awful this war really is.
Why were they in that soup bowl?
Any ten year old boy would tell you that when you are playing “war” you don’t put yourself where the “enemy” could surround you.
This group was isolated where nobody could help them.
What commander put these kids in this situation?
This should be investigated. It needed to be spotlighted because this should not happen again. It should not have happened the first time. Shame on whoever put these kids in harms’ way and such a stupid place to be. What were they doing there in the first place? The big shots are now “rethinking” this. Can you believe it?
Look for the draft if this war goes on much longer. They are giving big bucks to people who sign up again. They are also accepting people with physical and other problems (people who were rejected early on). I know of such cases.
These people are never going to change.
We have to accept that. They want to pretend they are “holy holy”, but yet they will cut your head off if you displease them. They pray so many times a day, but they grow the poppy to destroy people’s lives.
These people will never change, and we are the fools who are trying to change them. What’s wrong with this picture, folks?
