In Palin We Trust?

ABC's Stu Schutzman reports from New York: Sarah Palin’s crusade for God and country “kicked up another notch” last week after she uncovered a government plot to marginalize God.  Ms. Palin delivered a speech to a Wisconsin Right-to-Life group Friday night, at which she banned all media coverage including personal cameras, cell phones or other recording devices.  The better to speak her mind?  But lo and behold, a group of enterprising reporters including Jonathan Martin from Politico.com found a way in anyway, by forking over the $30 entrance fee and covering the speech the old-fashioned way — with pad and pen.  There was a lot to write about.  Her speech, says Martin, “often veered into rhetorical culs-de-sac,” wandering “off script to make a point, offering audience members a casual ‘awesome’ or ‘bogus’ in discussing otherwise weighty topics.”  Palin raised the specter of government-backed euthanasia for the elderly and for certain special needs children under health care reform.  What should have been raw meat for this audience, though, elicited only sporadic applause.  “Palin’s extemporaneous and frequently discursive style,” writes Martin, “Was such that she never truly aroused a true-believing crowd.” But most curious was her rant about the government’s attempt to remove God from the national currency.  She was referring specifically to the new one-dollar coin on which, she said, the familiar phrase “In God We Trust” would no longer be prominently displayed on the face of the coin but instead moved to the outer edge. “It’s a disturbing trend,” she said, implying that the next step is off the coin completely.  “Who calls a shot like that?” she asked, “Who makes a decision like that?”  Could it be Barack Obama? “Unsaid but implied,” writes Martin, “Was that the new Democratic White House was behind such a move to secularize the nation’s currency.” As they say, don’t let the facts get in the way. For the record: Barack Obama had nothing to do with it. The legislation which inspired the U.S. Mint to move the phrase was passed by the Republican Congress of 2005 and signed by President Bush.  The law was rescinded by the Senate in 2007 in a bill backed by Republican Brownback of Kansas and Democrat Byrd of West Virginia. With a new book on the way, it’s not surprising that the former Alaska Governor is more visible of late.  It would be more surprising if she truly believes she can “go rogue” – as in, say whatever she pleases to friendly audiences and, like a tree falling in the forest, hope no one else hears.

“In God We Trust”
Maybe YOU do, not me; I’ll pass on an entity that stands by and allows children to be tortured, raped and murdered. Atrocities galore in this world of ours, and people still have the gall to say “He works in mysterious ways.”
Yeah, you can have him. I’ll take charge of protecting my family.

Aaron, don’t be so quick to blame God. It is PEOPLE who stand by while children are tortured, raped and murdered. God’s function is to try to convince people they should not do that. But people keep blaming Him for their own stupid acts… rather in the manner that Republicans blame Obama for the malfeasance of the Bush Administration (…which is NOT to compare Obama to God in any other way.)
BTW, scripture says Sarah will have to answer to God for every word spoken. I wish – for her own sake – that she would shut…

This woman could possibly be the next president. If she is, I can’t wait to hear all of the thuds as liberals jump from the rooftops. Or hopefully many of them will leave this country, as they always vow to do whenever a conservative moves into white house.

Full faith and credit of the dollar. Faith is fading, its value for credit is being diluted, and the freedom to choose one’s lifestyle is becoming dictated. No faith, no credit, no freedom. So Caesar now has what is Caesar’s and Rome has fallen. As long as mankind has something to believe in that is bigger than themselves then Faith (Confidence), Hope (Credit), and Charity (Freedom) will thrive. Take any of it away then each human will not esteem another as an equal worthy of courtesy or life.

You go, Sarah! My so many friends and I have prayed and respected Sarah Palin which can back lost American the Faith, Freedom, and Precious Values to Americans since Obama had taken the White House. A huge money which is paid taxes by American is being spent for “ABORTION” in all of world. The Christian-American of 84% are deserve to be blessed “God bless you” by the president of USA, but Obama has stopped blessing American. GO SARAH PALIN 2012

Hate to break it to you, christians, but I have it on good authority that the Rapture already happened. All the real christians are gone. You’re left.
The hell of it is that no one told you. God has a sense of humor, as Sarah reminds us every time she talks…. every utterance a joke.

Didn’t Jesus kick the money lenders OUT of the temple? Didn’t he also say render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and what is god’s unto god? It would seem to me that references to god on coinage would fall into the realm of blasphemous.
Religion and faith can be a fine and wonderful thing on a personal level. It bothers me that some would force their religious beliefs upon all while ignoring their personal ignorance of their own faith.
Then again, I do not cherry pick scriptures to justify mine or anyone else’s bad behaviour either.

Even if a person doesn’t believe in God, he or she can still follow some rules. These rules or laws will give you a more happier life.
Don’t kill; don’t lie; don’t want or take what’s not yours; don’t be envious over what somebody else has – and the best suggestion of all: love others and take care of each other – and do it with a glad heart.
I think Palin is trying to say this, but she goes about it all wrong. She’s beating people over the head with a mixture of religion and politics.
It just doesn’t work. Why would you want to alienate people?
The “Going Rogue” phrase is laughable.
How much a rogue are you if you don’t want anybody else to hear you?

Back in the day, people protested being paid in paper dollars, they wanted gold – which has no religious viewpoint printed on it. No matter the phrase, if you don’t have any, you’re doomed.

Oh, for heavens sake you all sound like idiots. Sarah Palin is for God and country. You all obviously are not. Especially if you believe Muslim Obama is doing a good job of it. You are voicing opinions that make little sense. Yes Sarah is a woman and I know most of you are against females in office. Our Governor and Senator are female. They are doing a pretty good job of it. I’m not sure that Sarah would be a good Pres. but her opinions are from the heart and she has a clean record, which is more than I can say for most of those dishonest hypocrites in office now.

I think they are a becoming threat to our nations security. How long before these, rush dimbaugh, glen beck, right wing nut jobs believe it is their right to overthrow the government by force because they can’t succeed at the polls endangering the very substance of our democracy?? This is exactly how Adolf Hitler took over Germany with meetings behind closed doors!!!!

Who ever thought to reference God’s name on money? What is the point? Why are political adversaries wasting their energies to debate such a topic? Is it only Christians that strongly believe in this practice? How can we the people have freedom of religion without freedom from religion? I vote we include, to be fair, Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. How many more millions would that cost to produce. Perhaps we should have the picture of Jesus on the cover rather than a mere mortal? Why haven’t you representatives of your God pushed for God’s message to be printed on the coins… Peace on Earth, Goodwill Towards Men… or isn’t God’s message as important to you as your political agenda… slam the Democrats in the name of God? Something tells me the big guy’s not going to be happy with this kind of conduct.

Some things never change. Palin didn’t know what she was talking about when she was campaigning with McCain and she is still in the dark now. q I suggest GrammaNowhere read the 1st amendment of the Bill of Rights. Separarion of church and state the way I think you mean is not there. This amentment protects religious expression and freedon of speach. It only prevents crongress from making a law that tells people what church they must belong to and pay taxes to as people in Europe were required. Quote from James Madison ” Religion is the basis and foundation for government” Thomas jefferson wrote ” No power over the freedom of religion is delegated to the United States by the Constitution’ Another quote by John Adams “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” I could go on and on, but I rest my case.

The idea of separation of church and state is that no particular ideology’s governance would be tied to the “administration” of government affairs. That includes the ideology of atheism. The statement of “In God we trust.” is an acknowledgment that we share in the belief that there is a motivating influence that promotes benevolence. The constitution does not attempt to define God for us. It is a simple acknowledgment that benevolence is an attribute that is desirable. Making such an acknowledgment does not diminish one’s ideology or what motivates one to excel. It does provide a standard that we can adhere to for the respect and preservation of our liberties and right to self determination. When this nation ceases to have a desire to do good to others, have goodwill, or to be charitable we will not have a compass to lead us in ways that would keep this nation united. So if the word God is offensive to some then the word benevolence is also offensive. If this is so then the unifying influence that holds this nation together is eroding and our motivation to coexist will end along with our liberty.

The seething contempt of the ABC “reporter” comes cascading downward with the first four words. And those crafty Politico reporters. Wow. Thanks be to Dog for serious journalists like these guys. A pen. Wow. How “Green.” Their hostility is aimed not just their political adversary, but at the audience as well. And Palin actually went down, “..rhetorical culs-de-sac,” wandering “off script to make a point..” Some reporting there. If only were were as sophisticated as you guys, we could all be vicious, petty, self-righteous, condescending elitists. And this is not revealing of your politics at all. Then the anti-Christian bigots come out to “comment” and get some blood in their Lefty claws. Before going back to defending Major Hasan as a victim of an unjust America. Sad times.

Mmmph! I almost missed my daily BabyDoll story! Ok, seriously… yes! there are media out there tryin’ to “get” our lamb. She is without a doubt a revenue generator for many a media outlets. So, there might be some out there that will just make things up or try to twist whatever she says in order to get to use her magical money generating name in some story.
But, here is what is key… they ban press, cameras, etc. because who ever her handlers are (maybe HoneyCakes herself) KNOW that she will eventually say something absolutely STUPID! …and guess what? She never fails in doin’ that!!! Its very, very, clear that she bases her opinions and positions upon nothing more than how she feels about something. Facts, statistics, concrete data be damned!
Okay, that works for the girls sitting around in the kitchen, having coffee and chatting, but that IS NOT leadership, nor is it governing.
I don’t agree with the journalist that she tried to imply President Obama was responsible for the currency change (I know…I’m naive because BabyDoll is extremely cunning if nothing else!), but the fact that she has found something so minute, and focuses her attention upon it, is very telling. How you supporters think of this woman as being smart is just astounding.
Pretty? … yes
Sociable? … yes. I bet she is a hoot at parties and can make a mean potato salad.

Intellectually Smart? …absolutely not.

Ask many Alaskans about Sarah Palin’s “clean record” and you’ll get quite an earful. She was all for the Bridge to No Where until being so made you look like a political cretin. Brains have to be a prerequisite for the highest office in the land, although you wouldn’t know it after a C- student from Yale who likely had others do most of his work was elected twice.
Sarah Palin is a so-called journalism major, whom Katie Couric, a milk-toast interviewer, exposed as never having read a major newspaper, as taking 6 years to graduate from at least 4 different colleges. She’s a former Governor of Alaska who quit her job to sell her book and lead failing causes in upper New York–a former governor of that state who could not even name the Exxon-Valdez law suit when asked to recall a major S.C. case. To vote for her, in my opinion, a person would have to be even more vacuous than she clearly is.

The level of hypocrisy from the left NEVER ceases to amaze me. All of the groups that scream about women’s rights, idly stood by as Palin was trampled upon by the media.
Did they support Palin, a 100% self-made woman who rose to power all on her own, while her husband was a fishermen? Nope.
They supported women like hillary clinton and nancy pelosi who rose to power on the coattails of the men around them.
Hillary shamefully stood by as bill slept with every woman in a 5 foot radius (gennifer flowers, juanita broderick, paula jones, lewinsky) just so she could advance her career. Very honorable indeed.
Nancy’s father was a congressmen, her husband was a very rich businessman and her brother was the mayor of a large city. I wonder who helped launch her political career?

After all ABC loved Obama and he is trying to double a national debt the CBO calls unsustainable!

You Go Girl!
God doesn’t rape or torture children, its sick people who are NOT held responsible for their actions. Our system who leaves those people out of jail without house inspections in fear of invading thier RIGHTS! An conficted felon has no rights…
Amazing how when people are desperate they would call upon God to heal their child or loved one. The same person who will use Gods name in Vain- yet they don’t believe in him! Why don’t they call upon saten.. because if you believe in Saten you must believe in our Lord Jesus Christ!
A woman who believes in God is shandered? Is this like Roman times?
Does she not have the right to believe in God? There are nutcakes who believe its cult religions or not believe at all. As Americans we have the right to worship and believe in God, for those of you who don’t- I truly feel sorry for your loss!

Sarah Palin is not from the heart, she’s from the wallet. She’s for whatever sells. You should’ve known that when they had to put $100,000 of lipstick on that pig to try to sell her to the American public.
She’s on a book tour people! She doesn’t want cameras because she knows (as do her handlers) that whenever she’s quoted, she’s laughed at. The good news about this is she will divide the Republican party between the blind conservatives and the thinking conservatives, and the dems will come out ahead AGAIN
you go girl

I trust in God and as people go, I trust Sarah Palin far more than I trust people such as Hilary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi. Why are people so intimidated by the being of God or the word “God.” It’s obvious that these people are terrified by the very word. Maybe there’s more to the word God than people care to admit.

I only remember two groups that Christ was negative about. One was the merchants using the house of God to sell their wares. I am glad Sarah is not trying to profit through God. The second group that he put down was the religious leaders who were the official keepers of the law, who misinterpreted God’s law and who thought they were better than everyone else. I am glad Sarah isn’t putting words into God’s mouth or claim to be better than others that doesn’t agree with her.

Once, a revolutionary war rallying-cry was “I have no King but Jesus.” To pretend that God had no hand in the creation of this country is to be completely ignorant of reality. Please read the founding documents.
I pray for the souls of those liberals who are so angry at God, for giving them the conscience that continues to make them feel guilty for their evil, hateful actions – I pray they see the light and repent, like I did a few years back, after being a card-carrying liberal.
And, to those who – with twisted logic – claim Sarah is somehow a bad example of Christianity: it is quite the opposite, in fact. Sarah Palin is a true servant of a higher power, constantly and boldly putting her self aside, putting country and values first. She is so inspiring. A great leader. She makes me want to be a better leader, and a better person, and… yes… a better Christian too.
God Bless Sarah, and God Bless all of you who truly and deeply care about this great country of ours.

It is strange that people who claim to be Christian think it is okay to distort the truth. The truth is God’s work, but lies and distortions come from the devil. That is why I have doubts about anyone who is in politics because they think it is okay to distort. This includes Sarah who says she is a Christian but uses the tricks of the devil. She is always casting stones hoping to hit something. That does not mean she is not right part of the time, but she her claims are too great to be human.

That’s the type of SMRT leader our country needs!

Posted by: Doc | November 10, 2009, 7:47 pm 7:47 pm

Mr. “bobw,”
The person who is most dividing this country right now is President Obama, not Sarah Palin. If people could set aside their egos, they would see that Sarah speaks with the intention of championing the truth, and helping people live happier lives.
Obama is not interested in that same goal.

Sarah Palin is a true model of the American frontier ideal. She cares about freedom. Loves God. Cares about life. I am shocked that not more people can see this – it’s plain as day.
I for one can’t wait until the day that greedy liberals have to go create their own country somehwere else (Canada, eh?) and Americans can enjoy the principles that make this country so great. God Bless You, Sarah.

I can’t help but wonder why we need all this division – I’m better than you because I’m a Christian and scripture says you’ll burn in hell. Is that what is taught in your church?
Wouldn’t Jesus be considered a liberal by today’s standards – after all he accepted all people without judgement. I am a Christian and embarressed by Palin and those of you who use scripture to justify your twisted thinking.

Steve posted “If people like Palin, Falwell, Robertson, Graham, Hagee, Swaggart go to heaven I prefer to not go there.”
St. Peter is showing a new group around Heaven. They walk around, taking in the glorious sights. When the group starts to approach a large hotel in Heaven, St. Peter hushes them up, telling them to tip-toe while they walk by the hotel. They finally get out of sight of the hotel and St. Peter tells them that they can resume talking again. One curious soul asks Peter “Who lives there? Why did we have to be so quiet?”. St. Peter explains “I didn’t want to frighten them. That hotel houses all the neocon Christians like Palin, Falwell, Robertson, Graham, Hagee, Swaggart. They think they’re the only ones here! “

“I am shocked that not more people can see this – it’s plain as day.”
It’s not that, the resistance is because what is also as plain as day is that she is as dumb as a post when it comes to the problems that face this country and she is only in the offering to get as much as she can for herself.
What kind of politician bans all coverage of her speech? One who’s more concerned about collecting fees for speaking than having her ideas heard. She’s not going to run for office any time soon because that costs a ton of money. She plans to soak the cons for every penny that she can. Book deals, speaking fees and PACs are her retirement plan and she’s going to string the cons along for as long as she can with the IDEA that she’s preparing to run – collecting fees and political deals along the way.
“I for one can’t wait until the day that greedy liberals have to go create their own country somehwere else…”
Well, that’s not going to happen, because rather you like it or not this is our country too. I’ve already spent more than six years of my life in military service to this country (and you?) and I have no intention of moving, instead I plan to move this country to a better place.

I was there. Nobody got the impression (excpet maybe the intrepid Martin) that she was blaming Obama for any of this. She just said it was indicative of the trends nowadays, and even said that it probably wasn’t a big deal. You couldn’t find anything else to spin?
And she didn’t ban the media, the organizers did. Think about it; they bring her in to get money because people will pay to hear her speak. If it’s not going to be broadcast or show up online, more people will pay to go see her because they know they can’t get it anywhere else. That’s why I went in person. If it was going to be on tv or the internet I would have stayed home and watched it. ABC, use your brain.

Nobody even knew who Sarah Palin was when she was minding her own business in Alaska. Only the people who live there did. Then one day she got that phone call from McCain (which by the way was a not a good choice for him) to be his vice presidential canidate. I know that sometimes she wakes up and says to herself, “Dang it! Why didn’t I JUST SAY NO!” Now that the election is over, she has no job and hardly anyone can take her seriously…It’s kinda sad.

Sarah you may be right! I work for the Government and I make every effort to “marginalize (your) God” every day of my life. The reason I do this is because I am sworn to uphold the US Constitution which if you have read it, which I doubt, you will know that there is NO mention of god, jesus, allah, or any other dangerous delusion. The separation of C&S is what made us the most powerful country in the world and keeps us from living in the 14th century.

I find it interesting that those who claim to have the most “faith” are often the same ones who stand on the same intellecual plateau as the likes of Sarah Palin. Don’t worry folks, you won’t need to pack a rope or step ladder to assist you onto that plateau. It’ll require nary a step up.

Can we please have a little bit of accurate reporting for a change…once again, it was neither Palin’s decision nor prerogative to ban the press- it was the decision of the banquet. And unfortunately, critics like to interpret her argument as looming “euthanasia” which is wholly inaccurate. Again, it’s about scarce resources that will have to be rationed– in these bills, panels are in fact designated with the authority to allocate these resources, to make life and death decisions for people. How hard is it guys?

religious freedom is exactly the reason your god should be removed from public life. Not everyone believes in, or worships, your god. There are plenty of religions practiced and deities worshipped. The problem is that Christians think they have some inalienable right to be in control on the religious front and that is exactly what will stifle “religious freedom”.

Good for Sarah Palin. Too many teens today are getting abortions and they need to wake up that every child has the right to live. Palin is right and many people resent her because they can’t accomplish the same goals in life. In God We Trust should stay on the currency not taken off. Many teens today are heavy on sex. booze and drugs along with smoking and don’t care about life or anyone else but themselves. And 60% are college students who think they know it all.

grammanowhere: Get a grip. God is everywhere. What has the state got to do with it. That’s the problem today and why crime is so heavy in this country. The belief in God is gone and it is getting worse. The trouble with the politicians today they think they don’t need God in their life and so do thousands of young people. Why do you think we have so much crime?

Sharon: You are so right about Palin. I hope she stays in politics for a long time because she is truthful about what is going on in America. And I believe if she was campaigning for the presidency she would do what she states. Troops from Iraq was supposed to be coming home and I haven’t read that yet. What happened to the promises Obama made in his campaign? We are going to end up with another Vietnam war if Obama doesn’t end both wars, bringing all the troops home from Iraq and Afghan and call it a day. Nixon did it so why can’t he do it?

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | November 11, 2009, 7:50 am 7:50 am

Nancy: Good for you. I agree. This country needs a good wake up call. Obama could use some good help from Palin because apparently he isn’t capable of making decisions himself on what to do about the war. We had enough with the Vietnam war what more do we need. He needs to bring the troops home from both wars and let these countries fight their own battles.

I agree with Palin! For one this country was founded on God. I believe that is why we have risen to be the great country we are today. He had put a “shield” over us. But, taking “In God We Trust” off the currency IS in fact disturbing to me! What has this country come to?

Posted by: Kristin | November 11, 2009, 9:03 am 9:03 am

The author of these comments is way off. The mainstream media is always off these days. Like the terrorist in Texas (Obama doesn’t want us to rush to conclusions!!)you all want to believe he was just a misguided American. He was no American. He was a terrorist. Stop picking on a good American who wants to right the wrongs in this great country that you are ruining. Sarah is a patriot, but not so sure about BO who you defend and bow down to.

This is yet another attempt by the right wing to stir up some sort of anger against Obama. To feed the paranoia machine that begins at the fringe and runs through talk radio, the Post, and Fox. This one; however, never got off the ground because the loose canon (Palin) didn’t bother to check the facts before shooting off her mouth. The way it works, Sarah, is you’re supposed to base your story on some sort of credible information, then strip it of its context and original meaning or intent so that you can twist it to fit your agenda. Make sure that you regularly discredit the mainstream media so that your devoted followers will listed to anything you say.

Our Money has God written on it, our Declaration of Independence has “God” written in it. Our Constitution has “God” written on it. I see no separation of God and state. Yes churches, not God. Frank it’s obvious that you know nothing about us believers and you know nothing about speaking in tongues. You really should stick to subjects that you know about. For one thing we believers worship God not Sarah Palin. She is not “church and state” to us but we do agree with most of what she teaches. When she says something that is against the teachings of the Bible I will disagree with her and so will the rest of us. We do have minds of our own. And about the talking in tongues, that is one of the nine spiritual gifts that was given to the church in 1 Corinthians 12: 10 I have attended evangelical churches since I was a teenager and have witnessed the speaking in tongues through the Holy Spirit many times. I can tell you that there is nothing more beautiful! You really shouldn’t criticize or ridicule something that you don’t understand and know nothing about!

Yepai I pray that Christianity ALWAYS “plays politics” in this country and has a part in our politics!

We’re sending this one out to the Lord
(That’s word,we pray)
And we thank you and we know we need to pray
(That’s word,we pray)
Cause all the blessings that are good they come from above
(That’s word,we pray)
And once again we want
To say “thank you” to the Lord with all our love
That’s word,we pray(pray) ah,yeah,pray
We need to pray
Just to make it today
I need to pray(pray),ah,yeah,pray
We need to pray
Just to make it today
That’s word,we pray
