The Vicious Soccer Player Who’s Rough Play Has Gone Viral — Feel Sorry (at all) For Her?
It’s the takedown seen round the world. Take a look. A University of New Mexico soccer player named Elizabeth Lambert is caught on tape engaging in some completely over the top, ejection-worthy sort of play. Now the video of her acts are zipping round the world. The video is everywhere. Certainly she should have gotten a great, big red card. She should have been benched for many games. But does she deserve to have her ‘crimes’ spread across the globe?

We live in a society that seems top idolize those who behave in bad behavior..look at reality shows, sports figures and movie stars..the more despicabe they are the more money and fame we give them. This kind of behavior doesn’t surprise me…the reaction to it does.

Yes she deserves it. She is the prime example of what’s so terribly wrong in sports, today.
Not to mention today’s report that team sports participants tend to be more prone to teen drinking, and to teen violence.
It is time for parents to wise up, and recognize that team sports is really not good for their kids. It keeps them from becoming decent people.

Where the devil are the coaches? Since they are tolorating or encouraging this they they should be eliminated

Yep, this stuff is why I walked away from the game after playing for 25 years. The game has gotten increasing violent over the years, and refs have turned the sport into a contact sport without the pads.

I agree 100% with Bkeeley’s comment about the coach. The coach should be severely punished/penalized/suspended/banned however possible.

While these were very violent actions by this young lady, I disagree that sports are bad for young people. It does in fact teach them dicipline (if applied) and confidence. My kids stayed out of a lot of trouble when they were younger because they were too busy with school and sports.
It is unbelievable the refs missed this with so many people yelling (you can hear the crowds reactions each time she does something). It is even worse that her coach didn’t pull her. I am not sure if she is their best defender, but do you want her to give the other team a free penalty kick because of her escalting actions or worse yet do you want your team to have the reputation you are thugs?

Suspended!! Why isn’t this violent individual brought up on assault charges? I’ve known professionals that received worse punishment for less.

She should be pulled out forever. The game that has some phycial contact but this girl needs help two words!! Anger Management. Get out of the game!

For the hair pulling, she should:
1. Be barred from collegiate play indefinetly.
2. face criminal charge of assault and battery.

Why, though, is this kind of behavior tolerated, even sometimes expected, when a man is playing? We shouldn’t be allowing these kinds of things to take place in sports, regardless of whether it’s a girl’s or a guy’s team. And it also shouldn’t matter whether it’s a high school sports team or a professional team, they should all be made to follow the basic rules of the game.

Deserve it? I’m starting to think that people are now engaging in outrageous behavior, knowing they are on camera, IN HOPES of going viral with it! Next week she’ll be on Letterman, then the book deal, then…

This one example is just the peak of the iceberg. This and other things I was aware of as a teacher made me forbid my daughter from getting into contact sports.
What is shown here does not touch the problem in the magnatude that needs to be addressed.
One final comment where was the coach and what were her parents teaching this individual woman at her formative period of life…
I think it is obvious…neither were in the right place at the right time and had the moral and ethical fiber needed…

The publicity is only fueling more of it and increasing the likelihood that the player will be on a professional team as money drawing novelty.

Whose, not Who’s.

Sadly, I agree with Lisa. This ugly incident will likely only fuel Elizabeth Lambert’s selfish ambitions of sports fame and money. Her parents are probably proud of how their little darlin’ turned out. Shameful.

What’s all the holler about? Aren’t jocks (and the female equivalent) given a free pass to do …. well, whatever they want? We’re in a society that makes heroes of such — until they believe it themselves. This girl is acting upon the training she has been given — and she’s been well taught.

leogorky -what kind of imbecile makes decisions about their children’s lives and extra curicular activity based upon news stories?
Posted by: Jackson | November 9, 2009, 2:19 pm 2:19 pm
This is outrageous! She should be banned from sports altogether. The college should also look into disciplinary action against her. This female is a blight on society.
The coach should also be disciplined!
Posted by: Catherine | November 9, 2009, 2:29 pm 2:29 pm
The player should be banned, the coach should be penalized, and the refs investigated as to why they did not see any of this.
Why didn’t the opposing teams’ girls complain, or their coach?
Posted by: Steve | November 9, 2009, 3:46 pm 3:46 pm
It’s just more shocking when it’s a violent female, men are much more violent as in football etc. But they get called on it all the time and ejected. That girl ought to be barred, she not only pulled hair but kicked one in the face as well. This sets a terrible example to younger kids. They figure if she can get away with it than they can too. The coach and her parents ought to be barred from the game as well. Lousy unsportsmanlike like behavior.

there should be a lawsuite on this she cant get away with that crap

A very good reason for instant relay for referees’ usage.
That player should be banned for at least a year.

Her actions are indefensible and she should be barred by the NCAA from competing, if they have such athority. On another note, if you watch the leneancy of the officiating in the NCAA and professionals, many things that forced an ejection or at least a foul seem commonly accepted for the sake of continuing the games tempo or not charging a multi-million dollar asset to be removed from the game. Even one of those actions would deserve a red card, the multitude both a viral exposure and a loss of eligibility.

She should be pulled out of the college team, the scholaship revoked and then if she as much as spits on the sidewalk she should be expelled from the college.
I have no problem with this movie clip being splattered all over the internet: what I do have a problem with is ABC (and other networks insisting on talking about soccer only when ssomething negative happens in the sport, systematically ignoring all the good it does for the million of kids that play the game in the United States and all over the world

Elizabeth gone very terrible behavior forward opposing player so far. She act like as WWE wrestler than soccer player. I said WOW she’s tough player. Coach suppose to bench her when she’s out of control.

Didn’t you people really watch the video?? Didn’t you see Lambert get nailed in the chest by the BYU player? Did you not see the 2nd BYU player hold her? Granted, the ponytail pull was out of line, but jeez people, open your eyes! Shame on Good Morning America for purposely edited the raw video footage to just highlight the actions of Lambert and make it a more sensational story. What if YOU were Lambert and no one was taking into account the dirty tricks and play acting that the other team was employing? Watch the raw footage again and put yourself in Lambert’s shoes.

The New Mexico Aggies are known for their loser attitude, and that’s just the truth. Many coaches don’t like to play them NOT because they are good, but because both the athletes and the students are so incredibly violent and nasty. Look back through articles from the past 7 or 8 years — every year, same thing.

Yes – she should be banned for life from any sport, expelled from the school she represented and charged with criminal assault. Contrary to her comments it is a complete reflection on her true personality.

What about her previous games? Has video from those games been looked at? Is this just the latest in a series of violent play on her part? If, after video has been looked at and it shows that this violence on her part was indeed unique to this one game, then I would ask why. Why BYU? Personally I hope her actions are serial in nature because an alternative might be that she is perhaps an evangelical who has a problem with Mormons. If so, then her actions could fall under the umbrella of hate crimes. This is definitely something I would consider.

My 17 y.o. daughter spent 1 week in ICU before being sent to U of M children’s hospital for further care after an attack on a high school soccer field in Michigan. She was blatantly attacked, had a neck injury and her coach, Athletic Director, the referees, superintendant of schools and the trainer did nothing! We have video of her siezures and are considering posting them in an effort to get all contact sports video taped for accountability.
